At the moment I have a G5, but am selling it. Right when it's gone I'm getting a OnePlus 3T. How would I transfer my data from my G5 to my OP3T when they're not side by side? Is there any other way other than relying on Google backup (because it didn't show my phone backups from my phone before the G5)
try helium if you are not rooted
or titanium backup if you are

The 3T is obviously the winner in speed. For me the things I'd miss most when K switch will be QHD (if I notice a difference), dual cameras, and removable battery. But I want 6GB of ram and the fastest Android phone xD. I just hope I don't make the wrong decision.

Dual cameras?
Just switched from my good old Galaxy S5 to Op3T and I gotta say, while there is still some pros for the S5, the OP3T wins hands down. Coming from resurrection rom, I was able to transfer most of my settings via the setup process when it asks you if you want to get the settings from another phone. For whatever reason I was not able to make it work via NFC, so I had to use the nearby-devices method. This will pull in your google accounts backups as well as all apps installed via playstore. There is a couple of settings (eg. Nova Prime Launcher, k9 etc.) which I had to transfer by manually exporting on the old phone and importing on the new one and there is another couple of settings that didn't offer any form of automated migration. Mostly all the apps installed manually or via fdroid and the root tweaks. In my experience transfering data is never a 100% thing with whatever method you are using and this becomes more true the more you used to customize and tweak the old phone.

When you restore you apps I believe google through the first set up doesn't restore app data you have to manually go into each app and redo it. I usually do that. Google backs up contacts and you could use SMS backup restore to backup SMS and calls.

Google restore is app specific..means if the app has implemented backup and restore of its data, it works..but most of the apps did not implement that, so it will just restore the app and permissions...
Titanium backup is my go-to, but it requires root. Used Helium without root but it fails on some apps.

How do you guys think about the rumored cloud backup of Google? I think it would be great to have such a function and! I just don't want to use apps like titanium etc. I just want my phone to recover settings, apps, mail accounts and more when doing a restore after flashing.

In all honesty I am not a big fan of titanium backup at all.
I would actually love this, it would be good if it wasn't Nexus 5 specific but android specific so I could move to any other phone when its out and not reconfigure it.
Yeah there was some info at first, but now its all silentmode

I for one used to HATE titanium, and I found the GUI very confusing and hard to understand. But. Once I got used to it I found it to be one of the most useful apps i've purchased. Just my thoughts
On the google backup thing, I think it would be cool. But i'd have to see how it was implemented.
titanium bu is for noobs. I would NEVER use it. I'd rather lose all my data,
Backing up / restoring user data is never a good idea in IMO. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but, show me the thread with the guy/gal that has issues from not restoring from a other brand/model phone....... its just not a good idea. Even with the same model phone, its just poor practice.

Why? I've been doing it for years across a dozen different phones and I've never had an issue. As long as you're not restoring system data, any problems are usually due to user error.
I get that you personally don't like TB, but you can't just make a broad generalization based on your own opinion. There's already too much of that going on in the N5 forums.

Actually. I did just make a broad generalization based on my own opinion. Something i am granted to do. You won't see the threads with people complaining that their device is working fine after doing the b/u manually. These apps that fleece users for doing the dumbest **** piss me off.
1 Figure out WHY.HOW it can do the backup.

I've gotten more utility out of TB than any other app I've ever paid for. My experience with TB has been the exact opposite of whatever your definition of "fleecing" is. But whatever, bro. If you need to be unpleasant, knock yourself out.
I'd really like the ability for a back up app to remember my Google music "pins". Since I tend to pin a ton, I don't have the space to backup the music app itself.

Maybe just cluttered. I think your trying to say restoring app DATA along with the app is a bad idea. I agree with you if you are referring to system apps. Migration from ROM to ROM will cause issues. Phone A to phone B would be an epic failure. However I see very few problems when restoring user apps and data. I personally stopped using TB and now use Android Tuner. It has about everything you could ask for in a root package app.

Hi guys, i wanna perform a downgrade back to jellybean because kit kat really gets on my nerves for multiple reasons..
The reason i have not done this yet is purely because i dont want to lose anything i have on my phone, basically I'm looking for a backup programme which backs up absolutely everything i have on my internal storage, including 3rd party apps I've installed and set up, downloaded videos which are stored within apps and everything else pretty much THEN once I have performed the downgrade, to be able to just restore the backup and have my phone identical to how it is now only with jellybean instead of kitkat. Is this possible? Cheers in advance.

I was greatful for being able to restore the device ID so apps would just work like before.

Very true, using the non pro version will work but it's a mundane task to have to allow and then install each and every app one after another, very useful if you plan on testing different roms with your apps, the automated process is so much quicker and it'll save you time.
Half way through installing 300+ apps you'll be thinking of that pro key.
Plus the do deserve your cash, amazing app titanium.
When looking into these backup apps including titanium it says I need to be rooted to use the features i want. I'm not rooted and dont really plan to be. It's a shame really because i moved over to android so i had more freedom and control over my device and at first I had as much control as i needed with jellybean (more is better obviously) but the kitkat update pretty much made every sd enabled phone into a poor device. Plus I find the wifi range is really bad on kitkat but jellybean had so much better range. My point is that it's annoying that i should have to root my phone to make it as i want it and be able to toy with the settings when really it should already either have these features or be better optimised. Now I'm wondering if i should just root my phone rather than downgrading it? If i root it can i tweak the wifi range? And can I allow my apps to have better access to my sd card? Also if i upgrade to 4.4.4 can i still root the phone after? Cheers
If you root, it is easier to do on 4.4.4, and you can fix the sd card issue.

Fantastic help from you guys, much appreciated. It's good to actually be on a forum without morons! Lol
Ok so im now possibly leaning toward the rooting route.. Would you advise getting it done by someone in a shop or doing it myself? I'm pretty competent but if it's a risky process then I'd rather it be done properly! Are there any good tutorials for rooting from 4.4.4? Also does rooting wipe the phone memory? Cheers
And any app recommendations for rooted phones that allow me to sort out the sd access problems, also apps that allow me to tinker with my wifi range etc.. Just any good full customisation apps really so i can really get this phone as it should be!

Sorry for being a pain!

I really like the Google camera app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera&hl=en
Unfortunately on the turbo it still does have some lag. Hopefully that will be fixed with future OTA updates.
The main thing I like about Google's app is the option to take photosphere images and panoramas. I know the stock camera app does panoramas but Google's app allows for much higher quality images.
I have taken some really awesome images using this app.

Do you see this as well on your install?
Yes, those resolutions are correct for the Turbo camera (even though they say a lower MP).
The 5248x3936 is the same as the full 21mp (Standard) mode, and the 5248 x 2952 is the same as the 15.5mp (Widescreen) mode. Assuming that this is what your asking?
Exactly what i was asking. I figured it was cosmetic. Just wanted to be sure.
I will the first update might have sped up my camera. When I left the store it was slow, as I read about. Next day I searched for updates and got one. My camera is normal now. The only issue I notice is swiping to pictures from the camera, it swipes right away, then the screen "blinks" real fast. Might try a different camera to compare though.

This means that there are hooks between the camera and the OS that haven't been discovered yet. Earlier CM builds had this issue for other phones too. I'm not a developer but I know a little about code. I'll grab a Logcat to see if something jumps out at me.

I am far from expert, I don't notice a connection to camera with these logcat entries.
I assume you did not make copy / backup before removing stock camera.
I think this recovery package should restore your camera.

I was looking for them before I opened this topic. I am buying this phone for my sons so I was getting then anyway. I eventually want to learn to build roms and the plan is to start with this one.

Sadly you picked the wrong phone for learning development on, you need to choose another phone.
Blu has decided to lock this phone down, so future users won't even be able to root let alone flash custom firmware.
Even if Blu didn't the development is dead on this device anyway. This phone using Sony camera which no one has been able to get to work on custom ROMs.
One can port to another ROM provided that donor phone also uses Sony camera.
This is 100% the wrong phone to try and learn to develop on.
Best phones for beginners are Nexus and Samsung, simply cause more developer's have these phones, so they have the time to teach.
Phone with few developers are not meant for beginners to learn from, the less developers a device has the less time anyone has to teach.
As far as I know I am the only developer on my current device, it's a good phone, but I don't have to time to teach beginners, that's why I recommended Samsung or Nexus.

Actually, I have plenty of time to learn. The fact that this device has been difficult to work with is the challenge I want. I absolutely don't like Samsung and everybody works with Nexus. If I fail then so be it. At least I'll learn what not to do.

Good luck then, if you have one of the locked preloaders you will learn very soon what not to do.

This in no way shape or fashion is my work. I found this and it's working great on my S8+and is also working on my Note 8.

Note 8
Crashes on startup on my unrooted Note 8. Any idea why?

This is embarrasing, but no. It is not. Thank you for your time!

I did the same thing. Don't feel bad.
It didn't work on my phone at first. I had to reboot the phone then it worked fine.

This works so much better than the stock HDR feature - it's actually one of the main reasons why I insisted on a Snapdragon model.
Does anyone know the video recording limit on this camera app ?

I have the samsung unlocked version running on sprint, but I what do I have?
Also does it work side by side with the existing cam? I will be able to chose whichever cam I want to use?

There should be a download link on the post, it's right above the interview with the developer. Yes, I have them both installed on my home screen and they both work fine. Just install it like a regular apk.
Seems Note 8‘s camera works as well as google camera?
Is there somewhere that explains the differences in the various algorithms? I searched around but found only bits and pieces.
Also, it would be nice if someone could post which settings actually work for the Note 8. I tried a few and some wouldn't save and others
(I'm not a big camera buff and really don't use my phone's camera that much, otherwise I would.)
I'm seeing people state that the Google Camera is a bit better than the Stock Samsung one, but my experience is the opposite. Google Camera is giving me bad low light performance. I even used setting from the forums and was still subpar. What settings are you guys using?
I couldn't get this to work on my AT&T Note8 un-rooted.

Which settings from the forums? You have a link we can try? Thanks.
Unlocked non-rooted on Verizon and installs fine. Samsung Camera is far superior including with HDR so I'll un-install now...
Any news on making this work on Note 8 Exynos variant?
It works only on snapdrago phones

Not correct. Works on Exynos too but if you try to make any changes to settings it'll crash. Only way to revive is by clearing storage from settings!
However I didn't find it significantly better than stock camera and night time/poor lit/dark conditions photos are definitely better with stock camera.
