Hello all!
Coming from Kaiten Mail, I tried the Samsung stock e-mail app which pleases me for its appearance.
When searching the internet for PGP solutions for this e-mail app, I found that it should be already implemented under account options -> security options. However, in my version of the stock e-mail app, everything looks like in the screenshots I found, apart from the very option I was looking for (security options).
Does anybody have any information that Samsung may have removed this option? Is there possibly another version of the app which still have encryption?
SM-G920F
Android version: 6.0.1
Build number: MMB29K.G920FXXS4DPJ5
I would be very glad for any suggestion!
Cheers!
Norbert
This is not GPG/PGP, it's SMIME and unfortunately only available on Exchange Accounts.

Hi, I have the chance to buy an unlocked/unbranded Galaxy S, but I need your advice about the following:
a. Exchange Mail/Calendar/Contact sync, this is a deal braker for me, the only experience that I have with android was the Milestone, with the Milestone using the mail program or TouchDown was imposible to make my exchange account work, mail worked sometimes, calendar and contact never.
My company use Exchange 2010 with enforced security, I have no problems using it on my symbian devices (E71 and now N97 mini), of course WinMo phones also work without problem the same as iPhone (my wife work with me and her iPhone works), I have no partners with android phones to check with them. Asking anything to my IT is not an option, my company is large (+250K employees) and they won´t make exceptions.
b. Can I use hotmail via IMAP or only POP? (please, don´t suggest to use Gmail, I also use Gmail but need access to Hotmail)
c. My country is not android market "friendly", any experience using Market Enabler to access the market and buying on it?
Many many thanks for your answers. Regards.
I can only answer to C:
Use MarketAccess:
http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
And Eris Market Fix (found in Android Market, to see the protected apps).
I have been using these on 2.1 and now 2.2 and they are working perfectly.
So glad that I have been able to buy apps!
I can only reply to b:
imap works with the stock client but you're better off with K9 from the market (it's free) as it supports imap push and works well.
For b. you can use gmail (a. I'm not sure but you can try it)
Let me explain:
On gmail Settings > Accounts and Import
In Send mail as:
Click on Send mail from another adress (follow the steps)
Then under:
Check mail using POP3:
Click on Add POP3 email account (follow the steps)
Now you will be able to recieve and send message from and to your hotmail account.
If you don't want to do it this way look on community.seven.com for their mail app
NB! Your company Exchange administrators could (and should) in any time to exclude any phone OS to synchronize according to the company policy for security or another reason.
Question a:
- this should not be possible in the Eclair native eMail application (version 2.1 of Android). This might be possible in paid applications, if they have full MAPI compatibility.
- this should be better possible in the Froyo (version 2.2 of Android). Don't know if it works out of box, but...:
Exchange support
Improved security with the addition of numeric pin or alpha-numeric password options to unlock device. Exchange administrators can enforce password policy across devices.
Remote wipe: Exchange administrators can remotely reset the device to factory defaults to secure data in case device is lost or stolen.
Exchange Calendars are now supported in the Calendar application.
Auto-discovery: you just need to know your user-name and password to easily set up and sync an Exchange account (available for Exchange 2007 and higher).
Global Address Lists look-up is now available in the Email application, enabling users to auto-complete recipient names from the directory.
Exchange information from http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html.
there is also TouchDown 2.0 (paid) for Android that is vastly improved over TouchDown 1.0
back to hotmail account, it works great with the Samsung push Email & IM program, i have all my hotmail accounts real & fake ones all running simultaneously.
but as metioined above if you'd like more funtionality then you might be better off with K9 (free) mail app.

the samsung modified email app push works for you? I only checked with the stock firmware i had (JF3) and didn't have push for imap
btw: i'm personally not a lot in favor of importing stuff to gmail. that's embrace and extend at it's best: they read all data for their statistics. So ok it's a google os with a lot of such stuff but i'd rather separate some things when possible. (note:k9 is giving full satisfaction, just wondering about stock)
yes i'm using the Samsung Push Email as my main email app for all my email accounts, including google
4 accounts from hotmail
3 accounts from yahoo
12+ accounts from gmail
i hardly use my PC for email now since i got the phone, it's amazing!
Many thanks to all, one thing that Android doesn´t lack is user´s support. Since the N8 is delayed again I ordered the Galaxy S to give it a try.
I can respond in general that if you going to use Galaxy frequently with GPS, WIFI, Email then carry your charger or USB plug.
I found that even with light usage the battery needs to be charged everyday which I find it that I cant use it as my main phone as I travel a lot and I need more than 2 day with light usage of phone.
Is anyone else here on 2.3.6 with their Note (Rooted and CWM Kernel also) having problems with Exchange email?
I use a hosted exchange provider for my email, and have seen this issue before with Samsung (and some HTC) devices where Exchange Activesync just doesn't seem to work. I had this issue before with an AT&T Galaxy Tab I had tried a different ROM on to enable the phone radio in the Tab. It would never sync email, but the stock ROM would.
I know the account was added to the Note correctly, because I didn't get any error messages during setup, and I also got the prompt to confirm the security configuration change (to allow remote wipe, etc). The device also shows up correctly in the mobile device listing in Outlook Web Access in my account.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this, and what you did to fix it? Not really interested in a 3rd-party mail client like Touchdown, etc. Would prefer to use native apps.
Thanks, please advise.

If you want it for gmail, try this.
Go to Email - entre gmail credential - select manual setup - select exchange active sync - keep user ID n PW as it is n add m.google.com in server field, finish setup with rest of as per your desire
Thanks, but I am not interested in Gmail. I have already added a secondary gmail account and it works just fine.
I am trying to get a true Exchange (Corporate, of sorts) email account working. It kinda acts like it wants to work (I am seeing some Exchange calendar entries) but no emails or contacts yet... <sigh>

Mine is working fine. It sync my email with the exchange server. Im using Rocket ROM.
Using exchange exclusively also (hosted server) never had a problem. I tried with stock, then 2 different cooked roms. All worked perfectly. Am on latest rocky now.
Sent from a biga$$ Galaxy Note using XDA premium
Exchange email pushed OK, but calendar push never
Outlook email is pushed correct, but calendar never. Which application do you use for view/sync exchange calendar ?
Hi
I have tried all of the 4.2.2 AOSP based mods (CM 10.1, SXE, Liquid etc) and they all work beautifully on my i9305 except for ONE problem (which no one else seems to have reported!):
My Corporate Exchange email will not Push! I have checked every setting, and they are all correct. AutoSync is on, sync is set for Push. There is no possible setting that I haven't looked at.
I have tried changing out the email apps for the Samsung ones but they won't run at all once they're in system\apps.
Has anyone got any clue how I can get my i9305 to work with Exchange email push?
Thank you
hi nickjhart,
i use currently two exchange (2010) push mail accounts and it works like a charm.
to be honest - i didn't had any issue with that in any aosp rom.
here some of my ideas what you can doublecheck:
what's the release of you exchange server? does it have a valid certificate? if not ignore unvalid certificate during the creation of the account
did you get the message regarding the security policy upgrade after creating the account? did you accepted the device admin?
are you the exchange admin? maybe your device wasn't approved in exchange ecp after going to aosp. the unique device-id changes if you go from stock to aosp and the device has to be approved again.
hope this helps a bit.
best wishes,
axel

Exchange 2010. No valid certi. ignored cert. got email regarding security policy upgrade, accepted the device admin. my exchange admin has checked and device is accepted. everything is working exactly as the stock i9305 is EXCEPT for:
Push email - not working at all
Auutomatic Sync
Everything is configured exactly the same as when it works perfectly under the Samsung stock SecEmail.apk etc ...
I think it's an incompatibility between the i9305 modem and the exchange.apk in AOSP.
hmmm.

It still doesn't work. still. the rom is useless if exchange push (or autosync) doesn't work. I know it's the ROM (and the AOSP version of email) because everythign works fine with ANY samsung based rom with samsnug email app.
Just switched to a Moto X Pure from Nexus 5 and noticed some odd behavior. Not sure if there is something wrong with my phone or what.
- Phone arrived with 4.4.4 and I noticed the old Messaging App and Email client still installed.
- Quickly updated to Lollipop with latest App updates and old Messaging/Email Client is still there (seem to recall these disappear upon proper update)
- Unable to add Exchange based email accounts to the Gmail client (option doesn't exist)
- Get random errors/complaints about Google Services while in Gmail client account setup
At this point I became uncomfortable with things and figured it was some order of events. After wipe/reset, flashing back to 4.4.4 and upgrading to 5.0 in various ways I was still left with the same problem. Finally, I sideloaded the latest Exchange Services to got things working. I shouldn't have to do that. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you still have the old Email client and Messaging apps on your phone?
Really want to like this phone as I'm looking for a pure android experience on a reasonably sized phone. (grr Nexus 6). Don't really want to go back to my N5
No, there is nothing wrong with your phone. The "old" apps are still there - though the standard mail app should have a new look. Orange with Google´s Material Design.
And: As you did you need to sideload the exchange services for the Gmail app - if you wish to use THIS app with an exchange account. The "old" overhauled mail app got exchange support built in, works out of the box. Use that one in case you don't want to sideload anything.
Sent from my XT1095 using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you sir. I was able to confirm the same with another MX14 user. I think it kinda sucks, but oh well. Appreciate the reply
I installed the exchange services app and then added my work email account but i am having problems with syncing. I keep getting syncing errors and new emails are not loading correctly.
Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.
Rick
Well, Exchange seems to be working for me now. What I had to do was install an older version of the GMail app (one of the 5.00 releases) and then it automatically updated later to the latest Gmail release but is still working.
So, steps I took were:
1) Install Exchange Services 6.5 update first
2) Installed Gmail 5.0 (1569867)
3) Later updated to latest Gmail version 5.0.1 (1642443)
I'm user of Office 365 Business in DE. Until Android update all worked fine. Since update to Android P I cannot log into business account (only into private Office 365 which I don't want to use). In other devices (e.g. Galaxy Tab Active 2) all works fine.
Factory reset of Note 9 didn't help. Does anyone have an idea?

Do you have the right license activated for the office 365 business plan? If you have E1. You can't login. You must have ProPlus, E3 or E5

MSFT employee here supporting Office 365 in the field. When you say "cannot log in", where exactly are you doing that and what is the exact error/response you receive? If you'd like, please also feel free to PM me your login id (not the password, please!) and I can check your account's entitlements on our end.

I'm not sure... it's Office Premium Plus which is offered by 1&1 IONOS in DE. It's working in all devices in my company as it should except my Note 9 after update to Android 9. Using my Note 9 especially with OneNote but stuck now in a loop

Now in March 2019 this problem appeared in several devices with Android Pie (e.g. Huawei) and is replicated in Google's Android emulator. MS in DE answered it's a common problem in DE, not Samsung related. No date for fix so far ...
It's a problem on exchange as well as it's been reported by lots if people. I had to go back to 8.1 for for work as I need to respond to emails right away and it wasn't syncing unless you opened the email app. I sent an email to the developers and got a response saying they are working on it and a beta build is coming soon this month. They asked if I was interested but I can't go back to 9.0 and risk not receiving emails on time so until then I'm stuck on 8.1, which isn't bad. Here is the response.

There's no problem with Exchange on my Note 9 (e.g. calendarsync is working). I cannot login to my Office 365 Pro Plus account using Word, Excel, Onenote which was working perfectly under Android 8. Cannot open a file directly from OneDrive in any mobile App. Cannot join OneDrive to Word etc. anymore, all this is working fine on other Oreo devices. Same problem with Huawei Mate 9 after update to Pie...
Today Microsoft DE gave answer: they found the problem and will try to fix it in April. Means there is no problem in Pie... Why the hell digital life is more complicated in Germany than elsewhere???
