Timely Alarm clock not working - Huawei P9 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi guys, does anyone else use timely alarm clock app? It worked perfectly on all my other devices. But for some reason won't work on my Huawei p9 plus. I've given it all the permissions but still won't come on unless I have already opened the app.

App has gone to sleep.
Setting, Apps, Timely, Battery, Toggle Keep running after screen off.

I'm posting here because this is one of the top google results when you google timely not working anymore.
Someone over at reddit has fixed timely and provided an APK that works on Android 10:

Android Wear for Pebble

Join the Pebble beta group for the new 2.9 firmware testing. Actionable notifications are enabled for any app that uses the Android Wear API. No need to run the Wear App. You just need the new Pebble app.
Just bought my Pebble and I felt a little left out from all the Wear Hoopla. Pebble just keeps getting better.
Not bad at all for $79!
Do you have the 2.9 firmware.. Can you send it to me...
You can get the new beta by joining the g+ group and opt in on beta testing. The beta can then be downloaded from the play store.

You can find all infos you need on AP : http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...-android-wear-notifications-beta-version-2-3/
I found it very hard to find the information where I can sign up. I joined the group on my tablet, been looking in the play store, etc. Finally at work, I logged into google and looked from there in the play store. There I acutally found the following link a day later: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.getpebble.android?authuser=0
The new notifications are a big improvement.

Thank you!!!
New beta update for the Pebble apk and phone firmware yesterday. No real chance to test it yet, but I will tomorrow.
Hi, I'm totally noob and I just bought my Pebble few days ago.
Wich difference are among Android Wear native support and the Notification Center App? I mean, the Notification Center app already allow to replay with Wear integration or this is what I understood.
That is correct but the notification center app is a third party app, pebble has this integrated in its own app now, but still in beta. It's what you prefer, both have their pros and cons.

Ok thank you. I think I'll wait the stable version
I've installed the beta, and so far i am very happy with it.
The Wear support works great and saves an application slot on the pebble.
Thumbs up for the Pebble devs
So to what extent can the Pebble hook into Android Wear ?
Can I use it with apps featuring Android Wear support such as Fly Delta's app with smartwatch Boarding passes ?
I'm just curious what the pebble can access with this new feature

I've got no clue about that one, but apps that support android wear deliver same/similar functions now as they do on android wear watches. If I get an e-mail via google inbox, I can snooze the message, dismiss and such. In google keep I often set reminders that can now be delayed should they pop up at the wrong time or dismissed, too. It's great. If I get an ad from amazon books, I see at a glance on my watch what it is. If it sounds interesting, I either get my phone to check or let it pop up again later. If I don't want to see it again, I dismiss the message.
You can also send canned responses as Pebble doesn't have a microphone (which I'm glad about because I find it rather strange to talk to my watch in public).
I could see myself using voice in the car or at home, but not in public.
I've been checking out sony's smartwatch yesterday, but I couldn't find an answer via google whether or not it's possible to use android wear watches without talking to them. So Pebble is still the best option for me. And today was the first time I had used my watch for full 6 days on one charge.

Ring.com doorbell - not receiving notifications

Hi,
I've recently got a Huawei P20 Pro and it's not receiving any ring notifications when someone rings my ring.com doorbell..
I've had a few instances where the notification has come through as it should, but literally 99% of the time i don't receive any notifications at all.
I've ran through all the steps outlined in their guide (How-to-Troubleshoot-Ring-Notification-Issues-for-Android-Devices - i can't link the URL as i'm a new member here) but none of it has made any difference.
I have checked all permissions, notification settings, disabled them, re-enabled them, cleared cache, cleared data, deleted the app, re-installed, set the "App Launch" options to allow to run in the background - all to no avail.
Got another phone (Samsung S7 Edge) set-up to receive the same notifications from the same doorbell - and that's receiving all of them absolutely fine.
My P20 Pro is running EMUI 8.1.0 and Android version 8.1.0.
I've raised a support ticket with Ring.com, but thought i'd also post here - as it seems likely this may be a P20-specific issue..
I have the same problem with Logitech Circle 2 security camera. I'm not getting every notification, but on my HTC U11 it works fine. I think it's some aggressive RAM management or Doze. I've just setteled with the reason beeing early firmware and that Huawei will fix it. A bit of a hassle, but I have never bought a phone at launch and not experienced any bygd yet. No matter if it was HTC, Samsung, Huawei, Sony and so forth.
The ram management is ridiculously aggressive. I have several apps that don't function correctly, despite removing them them from the app launch settings.
Some of them are really annoying, but I have an issue with Outlook on an office365 account not notifying me about really important work stuff.
Go to battery settings, app launch, and set it to manage manually with all the options enabled. You will probably need to do that for a few apps.

Have you disabled the 'Manage automatically' battery option?
Thanks guys.
It looks like it was the App Launch settings. I resolved the issue by performing the following steps;
1) Deleted ring.com app cache
2) Deleted ring.com data
3) Uninstalled ring.com app
4) Re-installed ring.com app
5) Amended the following App Launch battery settings; Settings > Apps & notifications > Apps > Ring > Battery > App Launch > Switched off Manage Automatically and enabled all 3 manual options; Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background
i had the same problem and this worked
I talk to ring support and the are telling me that the app its not fully compatible with android 9.0
I recibe notifications if the app its open. But if the app its fully closed I don't recibe any notifications.
I already try the above solution but no luck.
I have the mate 2o X.
Any one have a work around?
Yes, I tried to the above fix too but it's still doing the same for me. If I open the app up it works for about 2 hours and then just stops working. I've even tried LOCKING the app window so it can't be closed and that won't work either. I had a OnePlus 5T previously and it worked perfectly on that, then i got this phone and it stopped working. My wife's app on her OnePlus 3T works fine. I'm getting really annoyed with it now as it's bloody pointless me having it.
I have a Mate 8, ring app notification would stop coming through not long after setting up the app but nest doorbell app works perfectly, same battery management setting on both apps.
Once battery management has been set, go to apps, apps, click 3 dots top right, special access, battery optimisation, where you see "not allowed" top left, set to "all apps" , now set the apps needed to "not allowed".

Sharing my experience with a Chinese version Mate 20 Pro

So I finally received my Chinese version Mate 20 Pro Emerald variant and I spent the last 24 hours setting it up, now it's finally getting into a more or less stock android feeling. I decided to write a post because man, I've never spent so much effort just trying to setup a new phone.
Ordering
I ordered the phone from Huawei T Mall store on Nov. 11th. I paid about 1250 CAD through Alipay for the phone and ~ 600 RMB having my friend sending it to me via DHL. I also had to pay some import tax getting it into Canada but it's just bad luck, plus the tax really depends on how much you declare the value to be.
First Impression
I had a Oneplus 5, I like the cleanness of its ROM, it's close to stock android and I was using the Rootless Pixel 2 Launcher which makes it essentially a stock Android device. The Mate 20 Pro is a bit heavier than the Oneplus 5 and it's just slightly bigger.
I started with applying the tempered glass screen protectors I bought also from Taobao when I ordered the phone. Sadly I can't seem to get it in the right place, and it's greatly affecting the screen responsiveness and accuracy. I ended up throwing them away.
Turning it on, and I'm already having issue with the initial setup process. First of all, I was asked to create a Huawei ID. But guess what -- I live in Canada but Canada isn't an available option in the region list, somehow US is. I mean, this phone is not even available in US, why would you provide that as an option but not Canada?
I went ahead choosing US as the region. It asked for phone verification, that worked for me because US and Canada share the same country code.
After that, I uninstall a bunch of pre-installed apps -- they are mostly popular apps in China, plus a few useless utilities made by Huawei. I uninstall about 25 apps during this process.
Then I tried to restore all my apps from the old phone, first step would be getting Google Play Service working. Surprisingly Google Play Service is pre-installed. but I wasn't able to update it through the Huawei App Store, because US Huawei ID apparently is not supported. In fact I can't use any of the pre-installed Huawei apps, they are all blocked. So I deleted my account and created a Chinese one instead.
I was able to access the app store and update Google Play Service, along with Play Store. Google backup apparently didn't work. I ended up using the Huawei "Phone Clone" app to transfer all my stuff to this phone. It does the job pretty well.
Getting third party launcher working on Chinese ROM (If you have a global version then this may not apply to you)
Spent sometime getting all the apps logged in and tweaking settings, I started to look into replacing the stock launcher. But then you can't change launcher on the Chinese rom, so I did some research and here is what I did:
1. Install a third party launcher. I chose Nova Launcher here. Never used it before but Rootless Launcher kept crashing and for Rootless Pixel 2 Launcher, there is an annoying security alert saying "Google is using microphone" that kept popping up.
1. Enable developer mode
2. Enable USB Debug
3. Connect the phone to PC
4. Access ADB shell
5. uninstall stock launch: pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.huawei.android.launcher
6. Reboot
A few notes on using this 3rd party launcher hack:
* I also installed the Nova companion app to have Google Feed panel access.
* You need to allow Nova companion to auto-launch in Settings -> Apps -> App Launch, otherwise rebooting the phone will make Google Feed panel disappear.
* If you select gesture navigation in system setting, swiping up from bottom may not work.
Getting Google Assistant to work
The phone has the Huawei voice assistant by default, and changing the default Assistant app to Google doesn't work. The shortcut still only bring up the Huawei voice assistant. The fix is to uninstall the app using the same process above. The package name is com.huawei.vassistant. After reboot, I was able to access Google Assistant using the home button (I still prefer three key navigation). "OK Google" doesn't work on Home screen though.
Make sure push notifications are working
I also noticed I don't receive push notifications most of the time. For example, I have Duo Mobile which is used as an authenticator at work. Having the screen on, I didn't receive the push notification. I had to launch the app manually to see the authentication request. Here is a workaround:
1. Settings -> Apps -> App Launch
2. Find the app you wish to receive push notification
3. Disable auto manage, it will ask you how you want to manage manually, choose Auto-launch and Run in Background at least
Known Issues/Todo list
Here are some of the things that I'm having issue with but haven't figured out a solution yet. Please let me know if you know a solution to any of them:
1. Google Pay Contactless does not work. This is almost a deal breaker. From what I've read, it seems to be just Chinese version doesn't work.
1. LastPass accessibility setting gets reverted to off randomly. This seems to related to when I close all apps using the trashcan button on recent apps screen.
2. Default Assistant app setting mysteriously gets reset to None. Still don't understand why.
3. Text in the notification just look so bad. Also not sure how to tweak that.
4. The security alert for app using microphone keeps popping up in Google Assist and Google Feed. I'm not sure how I should feel about that...
Things I like about this device
1. Chinese version supported dual SIM. I believe the global version does not.
2. photos in low lights are awesome.
3. charging is super fast! I also got the wireless charging thing.
4. I'm happy with its battery performance so far.
5. It's a faster device overall. The games I play run smoother on this phone comparing to Oneplus 5. I understand OP5 is an older phone but that's the only reference point I got.
That's what I had so far. I'm also keeping an eye on the progress of FunkyHuawei Mate 20 Pro support -- I'm looking forward to flash the global version ROM hoping it has better google integration and less chinese-oriented useless "features".
Hope it helps!

Does the device show as being certified in the Google Play Store? If not, this would probably explain why contactless via GP doesn't work

Hmmm interesting... is there an error message or such that might indicate why GPay doesn't work?

when attempting to enable contactless, the following messages appear in order:
contacting your bank...
your bank is verifying your card...
added feature cannot be setup. contact your bank to resolve this issue.
I called the bank and they said they didn't get the request so they don't know what error it is.
I contacted Google and haven't got a response.
Did you already have the card in your GPay wallet, and were re-verifying, or did you add it from scratch? Guessing it may not make a difference though.

I had the card in the wallet for a long time. Used it with my old phone without issue.
Does it support Band 66? Thanks

I was in China last week and almost bought the Mate 20 Pro. After reading many reviews I decided to not buy the Chinese Version and pay a little more to get the Google version from Hong Kong
Any updates?
Were you able to find any way to get LastPass working properly?
Accessibility features keep resetting for me right away.

Question Google Clock timers not working

Hi all, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra wiht oneui4.0. I found this information https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/google-clock-not-sounding-timer.4235717 however the instructions / settings do NOT appear on my OneUi4.0 (android 12) phone. There are no options for Battery Optimization that I can easily find. I have the Google Clock installed and prefer it over Samsungs, but I just can't get Timers to work.. I have to use alarms.. otherwise, any time the system is off Google Clock, it goes into the background. Help is much appreciated!! Thanks!!
The Timer in Google Clock works fine on mine.. have you tried to uninstall and reinstall it?
yep, same difference
I recommend you ask for help on the thread you have linked since they are already discussing the issue.

Android Auto updated to 7.8.622514-release --> "Google" app now available on Android Auto

Hello,
Today I was unfortunately forced to update Android Auto to 7.8.622514-release. My Android Auto was running really stable with 7.5 (and I had really bad experience with 7.1 and 7.3 --> therefore I'm absolutely no fan of this forced updates).
I checked the functionality with a second phone with the app "Headunit Reloaded".
I noticed that I have a now the "Google" app available in Android Auto.
But it seems to me that the app has no function at all. I just have the message "no new messages during your drive".
Moreover it also does not appear in the launcher settings on my phone. Therefore I can't even deactivate the Google app.
Does anyone else have this? Does anyone know what kind of function the app should have?
I really do not think that I need this app. I prefer to have a clean Android Auto. Is there any other way to deactivate this app from Android Auto?
Thanks a lot.
Update: I also noticed that the Google Assistant shortcuts vanished and can't get brought back...Where are my Google Assistant shortcuts now?
Update 2: now after using Android Auto today for some drives in my car, everything is normal again. The Google app was gone after the 2nd drive and I could add my Assistant shortcuts again after the 3rd drive. I'm really curious why this happened...
I just hate these forced updates.
