I am realy happy with my N1 so far, but lately I have some issues.
My N1 is not rooted or anything else, I havent flashed anything yet.
Do I need root or something else to flash a radio?
I read something about Custom Recovery but I am not sure.
You either need a rooted phone or a non rooted with the bootloader unlocked
what is the better solution in your opinion?
can i change it back?
for example can i root my phone, flash a radio, and then unroot the phone?
You can change back from root.
You cannot change back from unlocked bootloader.

I unlocked bootloader flashed TWRP 2.6. both no problem. This was done with the help of qbking77 youtube. Made an unrooted backup then flashed super su. Went to root checker and says I'm not rooted. I got a message when I opened supersu saying something like I need to reroot due to the fact that I was already updated to 4.3. Any suggestions? I'm at a loss right now. If I install my unrooted back up, where will that leave me? Can I relock the bootloader at that point and remain stock unrooted? Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

I did it by flashing stock recovery. The bootloader can be unlocked.
I also removed the root binary(you have the option in super su - full unroot). Then I reflashed twrp.
Good luck.
alright so i have a tmobile z that is still on the stock 4.2.2 firmware. not rooted or messed with at all. im wondering, should i take the latest update? will it make getting root or unlocking the bootloader harder...just looking for some thought and insight. tyically im all for rooted and rom'd phones. something nice about being stock...
tell me what you think!
thanks
Can't unlock boot loader so no custom Roms. Unless something has changed that I don't know about

You can root your device with an app called Towelroot. Then install SuperSU from Play Store. Then install NUT dual recovery. Then flash prerooted 4.4.4 ROM. Now you will get rooted 4.4.4 ROM with dual recovery. But you cannot unlock your bootloader because it's locked from your carrier and cannot be unlocked.
any roms you recommend?
I'm going to install CM12 on my wife's phone. But it's a long time since I did something like this with my own phone, so I have to ask.
Do I need to unlock the bootloader or do I only need to root? And if so, how do I root it?
When I rooted my s3 mini I used a used a pre-rooted firmware which isn't for her model.
Thanks for the help!
