No backup after ROM istallation - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

Hey!
For long time i was usin RR-rom. Worked very good but i wanted test Cm. (for me, i do wipe everything exept internal storage)After flashing rom and Gapps and restarting phone, it does not ask would i like to instal backups (apps, settings and so on).
Everytime i instal new nightly, my phone do not ask nothing. Did not have this problem usin RR-rom.
Its not a big issue but it takes time to install everyting again from playstore and put those all settings back were they where.
What could be a problem?

Have you tried fully wiping and installing the rom?
Also, that's a nightly CyanogenMod rom. What did you do when you tried to install it?

[Q] tips for x8?

Hello dear XDA forum!
I'll start with an apology, I believe there are answers to my questions, but I'm just to confused to understand everything since there are answers all over the place. And I couldn't find anyone having the exact same problem as me.
So, I'm fresh to the Android OS(was on symbian before) and is awesome for now. I rooted the phone once, but then I couldn't get Wi-Fi to work and tried to hard reset it, couldn't turn it on anymore. Did a software reinstall and tried to root it again.
I understand what Superuser does roughly, but I have a feeling I don't use the benefits of the rooted phone fully. For instance, ROM Manager is not working at all, downloaded a ROM, starts, resets the phone, when the phone turns on it's like nothing ever happened, so a little help with that would be appreciated.
The second thing that is driving me crazy is the low space on the phones internal memory, and I just can't figure out how to install stuff on the SD card, I have "Root All to SD", but the thing just won't work.
Any useful tips for a new rooted x8 user are very very appreciated!
Thank you, HeLLaTec.
Well, im new to into this things, and i have this X8 since friday. And im exactly in the same place as you, i just rooted my phone, and installed on it the xRecovery, and made a backup of everything just in case. You should do that too.
There's a guide on this same forum for you to follow and install xRecovery.
Goodbye!
if you want to change your rom , use xrecovery , search the thread for install xrecovery on your phone.
then change your rom with xrecovery, dont forget to backup your old rom with xrecovery too,
if you want to put your app to sd card, use link2sd on market, and its free. but you must partition your sd card and follow the instruction in link2sd.
clear?
Thanks for the info, but looks like I'm having some issues with installing xRecovery, I followed a guide on how to install it. Downloaded 3 files, moved them to my sd card then used "Root Explorer" to move it to system/bin. The guide said that I can access xRecovery by holding the back button while the phone is turning on(the boot screen), but absolutely nothing happens, the phone just turns on.
Any suggestions on how to get that going?
Thanks, HeLLaTec!
Don't hold back button, you must press it repeatedly when white SonyEricsson text appears
Thanks a lot, turned out I didn't actually install xRecovery, but now I had it installed, went into it. Wiped everything, and now the phone won't go past the first Sony Ericsson logo.
Any suggestions?
open xrecovery
goto partition tools
select mount/system
then browse your sd card put a rom in it
you can download it from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079463
then go back
then select install custom.zip
select custom zip from sdcard
browse the rom select yes to install
here u go u got ur rom installed
Ok that helped a lot, fixed my phone now, managed to root it, put on xrecovery and root explorer, and now followed the link. Installed the ROM, but it just played an froyobread animation for a few minutes and now it just froze and nothing is happening... ideas?
Thanks, HeLLaTec.
Pull battery, enter xrecovery and do a full wipe and wipe dalvik cache and cache partition, Froyobread will take a few mins to start 1st time. Did you make sure your baseband is 15? this can cause some problems.
Ok, I'll try to do that. Can you please tell me if the wipeing will remove the root and xRecovery and everything?
And how do I figure out what "baseband" do I have?
Thanks for the reply!
No, the wipe will just remove any user data left behind from old rom. If Froyobread boots then just go to settings, about phone and check that baseband number ends with 015, if its 06(i think) then you need to flash new baseband(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976538) kernel should be 2.6.29
If Froyobread wont boot then restore backup from xrecovery of stock rom and follow the steps above to check baseband.
Its good practice to wipe after installing new rom. DONT full wipe if you upgrade Froyobread to a newer version if you want to keep your apps and data, cache partition, battery stats(charge to 100%) and dalvik can always safely be wiped.

Unfortunately the setup wizard has stopped

i installed the NAA kernal and CM9, and all going great, i did however realise that i needed to install gaaps, so i placed on card, rebooted into recovery and installed, all going good, and then after bootup where you tap the android man to continue. this is what i get 'UNFORTUNATELY THE SETUP WIZARD HAS STOPPED'..
I cannot bypass this. ive tried installing two different gapps on it, and both times this..

Hello guys!
I'm new to the forum, and a total noob when it comes to android. I have a VERY similar problemToday I installed the latest version of CM. Worked fine. I installed gapps. Now when I turn on the device, it just shoes the message and I can't do anything. I wanted to try reflashing a newer version of gapps, but I can't put it on my sd card, because my computer won't detect it anymore...I can't use my phone at all, I am starting to panic :/

unzip the rom with winrar you leave two folders that enters the system says and go to the folder that says-app-here clears-app-setup wizard again after that compress the two files that were decompressed - metainf--system-with-winrar-do not forget to put format .zip and you have the zip file to your sd put it, install it normally..
Unfortunately the message has stopped the setup wizard should no longer appear

infinite boot loop after trying to recover stock rom

Hello ppl im a "proud" owner of p990
After long suffering on stock rom 2.3.4 (biggest problem was ofc gps which would lock onto satelites almost never) i decided to try custom rom see if that would help.So i rooted the phone, instaled rom manager, made a backup of stock rom on to internal sdcard, downloaded cm7.2 stable and instaled with google aps 2.3 (deleted data and dalvik cache).First boot went well IGO menaged to lock pretty fast onto satelites (indoors) and that was about it...after shuting down phone and starting it again igo couldnt lock onto satelites(yes i did leave gps on when i rebooted phone),gps toolbox would help sometimes...but overall gps was still pretty much useless(even when gps menaged to get a lock it would lose it after a while).Dont get me wrong i like cm7 its pretty fast didnt find any bugs except randomly loosing mobile operator signal strenght.I decided to go back to stock rom because i gained nothing by switching to custom rom(lost tegra, gsm network signal strenght stability, gps still bad). Now the fun part starts I booted the phone into cm recovery deleted cache, data, dalvik and clicked restore which ofc was empty because cm recovery was showing my external sd card(and rom manager backed up my rom onto internal) thankfully i created a second backup by copying entire backup folder to pc so now i menaged to mount usb driver and copy backup from pc to external card so cm recovery could see it.It worked.I got message all is done and rebooted the phone.Got lg logo then black screen then lg logo black screen to infinity...i panicked for few sec then realised i still have cm recovery instaled so i downloaded cm 7.2 on pc transfered to ext sdcard and flashed again.Phone was alive again:victory:
Started folowing instructions on xda how to flash back to stock rom and got stuck on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
because ofc Serbia(that where im from) is not on the list.So basicaly after this long post i have two short questions
1. Is it safe to flash with euro open BIN_LGP990AT-00-V20q-EUR-XX-JAN-24-2012-0 rom?
2.Is there anyway i can use the original stock rom backup i made?
Best regards,

check in the developers section for "back to EXT3", flash it and then flash a custom stock based ROM. DONT FORGET TO BACKUP ALL USER DATA....flashing backtoEXT3 will wipe the data. CM 7 and Stock dont use the same file format.never recover system information from CM7 to Stock or vice versa.
Hope it helps.
THANKS TO THE ORIGINAL DEVs

Weird CWM behaviour

Hello!
Before I want to go on to CWM I want to tell you what happened before.
Yesterday I flashed TWRP recovery which resulted in a really bad situation. I was stuck in recovery. If I pressed reboot it went straigt to recovery again, even if I pulled out the battery. So flashed the stock firmware via the KDZ flashing method and everything worked again.
Then I rooted again, installed CWM, installed CM, installed all my apps (TB backup on PC was quite old),....
So all in all it was a big amount of work and it took me a few hours.
Then everything was working again as it should and I updated all my TB backups and then I wanted to make a Nandroid backup so that I wouldnt have to do all that flashing and installing again.
So I went to recovery--> backup and restore --> backup
But it didnt finish. It always stopped with this error: Error while meaking a backup image of /system!
So i thought maybe I should install everything again, which i did. (I had already made a TB backup of all my apps, so i thought this woulb be done fast)
Well, went to recovery again, did a factory reset, wiped dalvik cache and even formated /system. Then I installed the latest CM + GAPPS and rebooted.
And the first thing i recognized was that the screen popped where it says "android is upgrading". And I wondered even more when I realized that all my apps where stille there. So obviously the factory reset and also format /system didnt work properly.
If I format /system and dont install any ROM then the device doesnt boot (which i guess is the normal behaviour). But what I want to say is that the format works there but if I flash CM afterwards all my apps are still there (despite the fact that i also did a factory reset).
All in all the phone does work normal now, but I'm not able to make a Nandroid backup and I'm really wondering why.
(I also reflashed CWM recovery but that didnt change anything)
I would be glad if s1 could help me.
PS: Could the solution be to flash stock again via KDZ and then do everything from the beginning?
Never heard of anything like this before.
Did you flash the recovery as a .IMG or through Rom manager (I would suggest to flash it with Rom manager).
Try this and report back (maybe your recovery image is damaged or smth.)
Sent from my LG-P880
I have no idea what caused this crazy behavoiur of CWM, but I started over again with flashing kdz and now everything is fine
Maybe your SD card is full. Try deleting a few files from your SD and then do the backup.

I dont have any external sd card and on phone memory there were more than 10GB free space
