The backlight on them only lights up when I press them.. surely they should light up whenever I am using the phone so I can see where they are?
you can activate it with gravitybox (xposed).

There needs to be an option to have them illuminated when the screen is on. I've had to try to hit the button a couple times for it to activate on multiple occasions at night or in a dark room.

Is the keyboard supposed to have a sensor so the backlight automatically comes on in the dark? Mine only lights up if i press a key and then turns off after a few seconds. It gets really annoying having to press a random key in the dark just to light up the keyboard.
yes there is a setting for that in settings>buttons>Backlight

I have that setting enabled, but it only lights up when you first slide the keyboard out and then after a few seconds it turns off (until you press key).
click it off and then hit ok and close out to the today screen. go back in and click it on and then hit ok. the light is also not suppose to stay on the whole time you have it open to save battery.
all,I am using CM 4.1.11.1 with Community Hero Theme.
I know the reason for draining my battery but I don't know how to solve it, can any one help?
issue:
When you press phone END button to keep th ephone in SLEEP mode,
- Phone goes to SLEEP mode and the Screen light is OFF.
- But, the Light on Physical keyboard is not switched off some times.
To see this, Get into a dark room and press END button to keep the phone in SLEEP mode.
Once the Phone is in SLEEP Mode,Do not Slide your Keyboard, Keep as it is and observe the Light from space between Slider and keyboard.
(I observed while I was sleeping..my phone was off but there was some light coming out)
I think this is not happening all the times but I have seen it many times and it is draining my battery.
To solve this, I use to open the Slider Press END button and make sure the lights or OFF and close the Slider.
Has any one observed this? can any one tell me how to solve this?
Is there a way to disable and enable the back light of Keyboard?

maybe you could try using PowerOptions That has the function to easily soft reset, shut down, turn off backlight and put the device into standby mode
IMHO, there's noway to do that...
My home, menu, search, etc keys are not lighting up anymore. I tried restarting the phone to see if it would get em lit up agian, but no luck. I can go into Settings > Display > Adjust Brightness, but whenever the phone screen locks they go off again until I do the above again.
They were lit up fine until I tried to enter CWM recovery by holding power and vol down.
Phone is rooted, 2.3.4 update, stock rom.
EDIT: I have no idea what I did to fix it but it's fixed now =/.

its a known bug, usually after charging it will go back to normal. nothing serious.
Hold the phone up to a light while the screen is on. It can be anything from a flashlight to a computer monitor.

Go to Display. take the check-mark out and reboot. Then put the check-mark back in and reboot again. Hope it works. Its a GB thing!

This is the best solution I've found for this problem. Flash a light onto the phone censor. Or just hold your phone up to a bright monitor like he mentioned. Fixes it every time. You'll probably have to do this every time you reboot because that's usually when the problem reoccures.
if you add the brightness widget to one of you screen and then use it to adjust brightness, it will light up the buttons
This seems a little strange to me - whenever I use my phone as a speakerphone or through my Bluetooth and the screen powers off, there is no easy way to turn on the display again without either ending the call (Power button) or going through the camera by holding the shutter button and then hitting the home key.
Does this happen to anybody else?
I'm on 14.1.G.1.518.

Try again without "Adapt to lighting conditions" in Display > Brightness. And when the screen go off in the middle of the call scroll the phone. If the screen show up keep it in that way. If not try disabilitate also Optimized Backlight. Restart the Phone. Sometime happen with Android.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no luck.
I found what the issue was - under Accessibility options, there is an option Power button ends call. That was enabled.
I don't remember enabling that option and I've never had the need to enter that menu.

Ok, but I don't understand why the screen do not show up anyway after call or even in the middle of the call. That option don't do that.
