Hi.
So finally i don't know how I updated my device to newest Developer Rom. But I would like to have Stable Rom and Get OTA updates.
Can somebody guide me how to do this?
I tried many things and nothing work. Tried via updater, flash tool, Mi PC Suite but can't be even connected. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but trying several days update to Stable.

I don't know why it is so hard to follow instructions. Most people got it working, sure it's not so straightforward if you have never flashed any ROM before, but only a few really had any problem after a few tries. Easiest way to switch is by flashing ROM, and maybe you can describe a bit more what problem you are facing so the rest of us can help more.

I don't think you are familiar enough with how to flash rom or root to do this. You don't have to be rooted to flash stable CN rom, and your BL already unlock if you purchased from third party seller that put EU rom.
If you want stable CN for OTA, just flash it through twrp. Now if you don't know how to do that, then refer to the guide. But I still don't really know which step you are stuck in..
I rooted many phones and many Roms thru around 5 years. But taht was on android and Samsung, LG etc. Only xiaomi is ridiculous. Nothing is clear, so many problems, etc.
BL is not unlocked like I said many times.
And again... Is possible to switch from dev to stable with locked bl, no twrp, no root, etc. just like i received phone. If yes please give me guide. If not please tell me ten il think if I should stay with this BS, open bl or instal twrp.
Xiaomi is one of the easiest phone to root and flash rom for me, compare to Samsung and HTC, if you want guide, I can link the same link again, but I am sure you have seen already. The guide was super easy to follow so if you think it's BS how xiaomi works, move on to next phone I guess.
The community here won't be very big, not many people would have the chance to have this phone, maybe you need those video guide to tell you what to do step by step, which I doubt people here would do.
And to he honest, the written guide had absolutely everything you need. If you want the phone to be locked, not rooted and no custom recovery, you can remove all these after you flash china stable rom.
Still no answer. .. love it
Marry Christmas and happy bday bitpie
What's the question exactly? You looking for a guide to flash stable rom?
I understand the question, is there away to flash without TWRP like other XIAOMI phones? go into EDL mode and flash via miflash no root or unlocked BL needed. Sadly I don't know the answer still waiting for my phone which was shipped 12/12/16.

I think you all are arrogant.
Yes there many ways many threads about it. But what i see is root, twrp, open bl.
What i think is someone can answer simply question
And again... Is possible to switch from dev to stable with locked bl, no twrp, no root, etc. just like i received phone.
And #3 and #5
Who's is arrogant here? From the beginning i was nice and grateful. Then i don't know if you all play with me or you are stupid to answer "yes it is possible here's how .. " , "yes this guide give you what you need. Don't worry your phone not gonna be rooted and you'll have updates or you'll be able to install update via updater or mi flash", " if you have twrp your phone still is safe and can update to 8.0.11
for example.
So hard to make me sure I'll have what I want. Is better to say bs like through all thread
:good:
I am sorry if you feel this way, but you could have just do a quick Google Search, to answer your question short, which I have done before already, you can flash whatever you want, no need root, and you can lock BL afterwards. And you can also remove recovery if you wish too so it will look like stock phone purchased directly from xiaomi. So this way you can use bank app and be on CN rom (with tones of bloatware) and get OTA which is btw nothing as the moment OTA is available, it will be ported for the rest of us to flash.
I can provide the answer to you, but please just search the steps, not gonna be bother writing a guide as it is pretty well research and written here on XDA already. Sorry for being lazy, but it's your phone so I think the least you can do is search and put in a bit of work.
P. S. I understand if you want to use bank apps so you need BL to be locked and not rooted, but I don't understand what's so important to be able to update from OTA, it's not like the rest of us can't get update, it's easy to flash update...
Thank You for normal answer.
Like I said before I was fighting with it few days many many hours and everything was mixed up in my head. I tried many apps, roms, ways google, read etc. Was enough. Then I decide to create a thread what turned out even for worst. That's why I want to ask 2 or even 3 times before I do anything. Want to make sure because last days I had no idea what I was doing
About the OTA .. I understand if ill have ota updates ill have most stable rom. Correct me if I'm wrong. That what I actually want. Stable rom. Want to have a phone like you described. Normal stable for every day use. no blootware, lag, bugs etc. At least at the moment. Then ill think about root, roms, etc. For now normal phone like from xiaomi in English

Let's take the bloatware part away first, if you are using Google Play and google apps, the most stable rom isn't official rom and no OTA will give you more stability because quite simply, there are no google support in China. So I strongly suggest you flash EU rom for 0 issue google service usage if stability is what you want.
On the other hand, official Chinese rom will always be slightly more up to date, with camera improvement patch... Etc. But it soon get ported to EU one anyway. And nothing is game changing on Chinese rom for us to really stick to it.
Now back to bloatware, there are tones of them in Chinese rom, which you can remove most but if you don't know how, it make the phone less reliable, and even if you successfully remove all, I would still think the EU one being more stable.
The fact is, most of us are not running Chinese rom should explain why it's really a good idea to make some effort and port to EU one.
I hope that helps to convince you not to go back to Chinese rom. It is however your choice after all

When you buy the phone it should come with cupcake, if not it will tell you that there's an update available and prompt you to download and install it.
Yes, you can return the phone to it's stock "unrooted" firmware whenever you want.
Btw, it's called "rooting" not "jailbreaking"...
ok so is your g1 rooted.. do u like it.. do u think i should... i am a guy in his 20's and i am not mr tech but def. am into tech stuff. so i know somewhat. but i just feel like i should for the third party apps. etc etc.. and if i root it.. will tmobile or google still tell me when there is a update avaiable

Yes, My G1 is rooted. To be honest I was kicking myself for not rooting it sooner, I love it. I can't really tell you if you should do it or not. The great thing about it is you can experiment with different ROMs/firmwares as much as you want or you can just flash one you like and keep it for as long as you want.
If you have root you can
1) Flash ROMs like Cyanogen mod which are optimized for performance.
2) Flash themes to change the look of your phone...
3) Move apps to your memory card so you have more space for them
If any of those appeal to you then you might want to root. Be prepared to read up a bit first, it helps if you know a little bit about linux too. I'm 15 btw, this rooting stuff isn't very hard ;-)
if i root the fone to the youtube video i showed you.. is there anything else i should install or anythign
and if i root the fone.. and like 5 months from now somehtign silly and little happens when i am on the fone with tmobile support when the guy is walking me throuhg somehitng and i didnt tell him its rooted is everythign gonna be different .. and where do i find unrooting directions etc

*Don't* use that video, it's very outdated. There is a much simpler "one-click" method that will do that same thing.
You will always be able to recovery your phone if you are just flashing ROMs. If you're flashing SPLs (your phones bootloader) then there is a possibility you could brick your phone. In that case Tmo should replace your phone as long as you say that it wasn't bricked because of you rooting it. Btw, you really shouldn't worry, G1's are hard to brick.
Download a stable cyanogen rom, flash reboot , check to see all is working, power down, restart into recovery and make a nandroid backup for just in cases, reboot, download cmiupdater to stay up to date but just stick with stable builds unless you what to be a guina pig. Sit back and enjoy a great os, laugh at your friends with crappy iphones
Hi!
Is it possible? I just bought a white Note Open Line but didn't noticed that it was released from India, My Blue one came from Singapore and already getting official update while the white one did not. Now my question is If I flash a stock ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997&page=3, would I be able to get an official update OTA? I wanna change the firmware the same as the blue one.
Many Thanks!
If you flash new firmware like LA4 you can't update using Kies .

Thanks for replying! I update mine over the air. Currently I'm on KL2, if I change the white note with KL2 same as mine will I be able to download updates over the air if there is new update? Or if I flash any of the stock rom even if there's an update I won't be able download official update over the air?
Thanks!

Yes you will get updates. find the latest update available for your region then flash it.
What if your phone is rooted?
I would like to know if OTA updates are possible if you have rooted it. I gather from my experience in the past that you cannot. My phone now fails to connect to the server.
TBH, it is not a drama form me, I have no lag, and the phone seems to work brilliantly, apart from battery life. I had to root in order to get even reasonable battery life, as the bloatware was killing it.
The other issue is, as far as I can tell, we cannot get root access for stock LA4 OTA updates. Is this true, and can anyone say why? Of course, I may have that completely wrong.
Generally, after my attempt at using the Note without root for a month, I prefer root to a new ROM, at least until ICS. Even then, I think I'll wait until the bugs are ironed out, and then get an update that is rootable.

OK, I have just read another of dr.ketan's most excellent and informative posts, and I think I can see the answer.
Real soon now, I'll have enough information and courage (and enough time) to start flashing custom roms at will!
After rooting phone you wont get OTA updates. and no warranty.

You may get OTA after root,Only if you have selected right ROM for your region.
But remember if you update with OTA, you will lose Root. And now a days newer update is non rootable. so you cant root it again after update.

Thank you for this info! I just found out that my white note came from Samsung India and from what I heard they update pretty long. I won't mind if I will lose the root after as long as I got the white one the same firmware with my blue one so they will update at the same time. Thanks again!

Many thanks for that, but what is the overall strategy for someone like me who is not intending (yet) to flash ROMs? Should I wait until an OTA ROM is rootable, then unroot, get an OTA update, and the root again? Or should I go the whole hog and start flashing stock ROMs instead.
I am not (yet) talking about flashing custom ROMs. All I want is root access and the stock ROM.
BTW, I sincerely appreciate the time you personally have spent helping all of us with an enormous range of issues on this and related matters. I run my own support forums for a particular software product (which I was involved with writing) and I understand very well how much time and effort is involved with keeping up this level of support.
One thing i like to say what is wrong to update it manually rather then OTA?
OTA is the choice, who dont care Root. If you like to Root your device, just forget OTA, there is no guarranty wat thing when gets available, just try to use your device in best way with watever available right Now.
I dont see near future someone find out a method to root latest Or each n every ROM. this is hide n seek game, if someone find it, samsung will patch that thing in next update. so it become non usable.
What i believe is get Root n CWM/Mobile Odin Pro. Install any ROM, you like to try with Rooting function active. If you dont like just change it. Itz just simple.
Root also get you facility to keep Backup of your data n all.

C'mon, mate, you're an Aussie: since when do the Aussies let others decide what they should or shouldn't do? You're going to wait for Samsung to let you have what you need when they see fit? Or are you going to take it yourself when and how you want?
Rooting is the way to go for the most people around here. That way you:
1. get the newest updates only a couple of days after they are released (good people in Dev section need just a day or two to let you download new stock Roms, already rooted)
2. get to play with lots of custom Roms out there - it's such fun, you wouldn't believe
3. get to backup your phone - system and data both - so you are safe to play on without fear that something bad is going to happen: you always have your backups to fall back on if it does
4. get to test various kernels, themes, rooted apps and whatnot to your heart's content
5. get enormous fun doing all of the above
Just follow the first link in DrKetan's signiture, read carefully, follow the instructions to the letter, and you'll never look back.
OK, I am getting the message

Amen - this is all you need to know. Don't worry about getting updates from Samsung... your in better hands here.
I was never into following what is going on with smartphones. So i have a few questions so that i dont feel lost.
So i want to root my phone. I have done it before, its pretty simple, i will just follow the guide. Are there any reported bricks coming out because of rooting moto g2 or is it relatively safe?
Then since i was going to do a hard reset for the root i thought about using another ROM. I dont generally know anything about mods. I only know the famous cyanogen mod. Is it working good with moto g2? Are there any problems? Is development ongoing? I think i saw a guide but i missed the link btw.
Now i generally dont care about my phone looking great with 3D stuff and gimmicks for showing. I want it to be as fast as it can be and ready to do as many things as it can. Thats why i am rooting it btw. So that i can do things that unrooted wont permit me and so that i can block adds for example in order to make it a bit faster and less power/data draining.
So is the CM mod okay with what i need?
And finally, since lollipop is coming out, should i wait for it to be available before i do anything in case that there would be a lollipop CM for moto g 2 or this would probably take too much time so i better do the hard reset now? Btw i am not sure if CM mod can be upgraded without hard reset in which case i am good to go.
P.S. I am not even sure if CM is really better than official. Any hints why it is better?
Thanks for your time.
U can easily root without brick.

No bricks reported from rooting only so far. It's a relatively safe procedure. CM12 is still in it's early days. Across all devices there are still various bugs. If you like to try lollipop there are two possibilities. Wait for ota (be sure to unroot and restore stock recovery. OTA won't install if you are rooted or have a custom recovery). Or you can try TitanPrimeROM (not the cm version). Its based on stock and runs quite nicely.
Thank you for the replies.
So i think i am going to just root the phone. But i wanna ask why is this thread locked? Is there any problems with this guide?

Hi, I did a lot of things with my One Mini 2 and I actually really don't know what to do anymore... So much options and yet there always seems to be a problem. Let me explain everything.
What I did:
-flashed a custom rom, then went back to a stock rom of this forum
-flashed the dt2w kernel, it messed up my phone so I then flashed the liberty one, which worked
But with the liberty one I had some memory problems, for exemple I couldn't take screenshots... That's why I decided that I wanted to put my phone just as it was when I bought it, I really hope that's possible, by that I mean having official firmwares etc, therefore being able to do official upgrades from my phone (is that what OTA is?).
I looked on internet and it looks like what I need is RUU, as it includes everything (from what I understood)... I know a lot of threads were made about this, but quite a few months ago, so that's why I'm making a new one, and to make things clear.
Also, I downloaded an official kernel from htcdev.com, but each time I tried flashing it with TWRP, it "failed".
So, if you guys have an answer, solution or, in best case, the actual RUU, that would be great.
Thanx

Still no RUU's avaiable as HTC wont release them. your best option is to use TWRP backup and restore.
Original stock backup
Thank you, but my backup kind of disappeared... I saw your post where there was the "HTC Original Backup.zip", I tried to flash but again it failed... Am I supposed to flash it as a backup?

Thanx so much for answering... I uses the backup you told me to. Although I had to use the "install" option instead of the backup one, it now works perfectly! But how do I know if my phone is "official"? Are the upgrades going to be made straight from the phone?

Yes OTA updates should work just fine. just look for updates in settings>about >software update.
you may have one for polaris office.
Hi, I just want to check this too before I screw up wife's phone..
She has CM12 on her phone now as I replaced recovery as well as unlocking bootloader. Now she wants it back to stock as too many things crash on her. I get that I can install your backup but what worries me is that other posts have said you need the stock recovery to allow for OTA updates to work and the link to this no longer works.
She MUST have OTA updates or my balls will be removed, so can you please confirm this, but also explain why.
Thanks (on behalf of my testicles and unborn children!)
(Oh, and she wants it unrooted ant the bootloader relocked)

I get that I can install your backup but what worries me is that other posts have said you need the stock recovery to allow for OTA updates to work and the link to this no longer works.
She MUST have OTA updates or my balls will be removed, so can you please confirm this, but also explain why.
Thanks (on behalf of my testicles and unborn children!)
(Oh, and she wants it unrooted ant the bootloader relocked)

Stock Recovery
To unroot just lock bootloader:
fastboot oem lock
i am deeply sorry if this is the wrong place or already been answered but i have spent almost 6 hours looking for the right solution.
so the story is i have a Z3 compact which is branded to Vodafone UK (not sure if it is relevant)
attached are images of my about page and the configuration page (where you dial *#*#7378423#*#*)
i also (on my search) have my code from the sony site where i selected my phone, sent an email, entered IMEI number and gave me a code to run using fastboot (this did not work for me)
based on theses settings what program/files/tools do i need to install custom rom, which i guess also will root it (im looking at either paranoid android or lineageOS)

You can't unlock you bootloader mate, the screenshot you put up says so. Meaning no custom kernels, which also means no ROMs that aren't based on stock. You're stuck with MIUI and various other zip-ports. No Lineage or AOSPA etc.
You can root it no problem though. Just use google or whatever, there's a couple of ways to do it.

thank you for your response thought this would be a dead thread.
a few follow up questions if i may:
1. i asume i can find any post with MIUI in the title while should be compatible
2. i read something about down grade of firmware (is that a possible option for me)
3. in my google searching, would i need to state that my BL is locked

Just find a MIUI ROM in the dev section if you want MIUI.
You can install any firmware from Sony using Flashtool. Learn to use it, it's gonna be your friend.
That means you download any FTF file for your phone (there's a thread somewhere with a collection of FTFs), and you can flash it. KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, or Concept.
I don't know how to root really, I just do it the old fashioned way since my bootloader is unlocked (and I pray that never changes). I think you'll have to downgrade to KitKat, which, again, is very easy if you know how to use Flashtool.
Np mate, I know the feeling of dead threads. Just happened by luck that I saw yours and got intrigued by the title lol.

I don't have the phone with me will check tomorrow

Haven't used MIUI since 2013 so you'll have to find one by yourself lol. I'm more of an AOSP guy -- if I was forced to use a locked bootloader I'd just install the concept FTF. That's about as light as you can get on this phone.
You can't unlock your bootloader, period. No software hack will help you. At least not from home. You'd need something like a riffbox and extensive knowledge of the phone's bootloader software to unlock it.

Concept it is
Ok thank you for making it super clear (for me and anyone else reading this. )
It's annoying that the sony website gave me a code to unlock it. I'm sure they could have known from the IMEI number whqt it was and stuff.

I think the carriers lock the bootloaders, not Sony. As far to my knowledge, Sony ships out the devices unlocked, and the carriers decide whether to lock them, but don't report back to Sony. Their site just assumes you don't have a s'hitty carrier.
Best of luck man, and welcome to the Z3C forums!
