Disable completely proximity sensor - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
My phone Moto G2 have a little problem that is draining battery like crazy. Basically my phone went into the water, everything works besides proximity sensor that is faulty now. It does work completely OK with some ROMs (CM 14.1 for example) but on some it will be on all the time (I can see proximity sensor red light under the top speaker). I was able to disable it using Xposed module, but Xposed is not available for Android N yet.
Is there any other way to disable it?

How to Disable proximity sensor.?

Hi Guyz,
My friend dropped his nexus one on the floor and from then on he is facing a weird problem. When he receives a call, when the sensor is turned on, the screen never comes back and it remains black. The only option is to pull out the battery and i suppose the drop has made proximity sensor faulty. He is not a rooted user. Is there any menthod to disable proximity sensor without rooting ? If not how can i fix it after rooting ? Any build.prop changes ?
Thanks,
karthik

hey Karthikus , I know this is not a new post, I would like to know if you solved your friends's problem, I have exactly the same, I used a couple of apps to disable the proximity sensor but still no luck, by the way I have the cyanogen mod 7 in my nexus now. the phone is a beauty, but its kinda annoying to have to remove the battery after a few calls, also I'm using a bluetooth headset, wich kinda minimizes the problem, but still not happy. please let me know , or not, I'm planning to build a disable sensors app myself in case I can't fixit. oh, and I tried all the other solutions I could find in google, like cleaning the sensors, (I dismantled the phone already) and enabling other ways to bring the screen up using other methods like trackball press or menu press. no way, still there. so please let me know. if still relevant.
thank you.

Black screen during calls even with proximity sensor disabled

I use the phone as navigation in the car, so I never hold it to my ear. I did not have a SIM in it for a year, now I put one back in order to also use it for hands-free talking. Issue is the famous black screen when starting or accepting a call.
I have rooted it, installed Xposed and enabled modules CallScreenFix and Sensor Disabler. In Sensor Disabler, I have tried to things with the same result: hard lock the Proximity sensors shown to maximum distance or also disabling them.
AIDA64 shows as expected either proximity 5.0 or no sensor at all (info: before installing Xposed it was 0.0 constantly).
However, the screen still turns off when a call is in progress. I would not even care that much, but I cannot enabled speakerphone to use it for hands-free talking.
Any further ideas? At the very minimum any phone /dialer apps where I can pick up and call directly in speakerphone mode?
As mentioned above, I have the phone rooted. So anything goes
Cheers,
Daniel.
I would try without Xposed first. Xposed is very much a hack, and you never know what it actually does.
Do you have a screen protector that covers the sensor?

No, I never used any of that. Without Xposed, the sensor always shows 0.0 on AIDA64. With Xposed, I can choose between 5.0 and not having a sensor at all. None of that has an effect. I'd very much like to find a non-hacked solution of course. However, since it's my secondary device, I'd also be ok with half a hack...
nexus 6 proximity sensor fix
In my case it was the protective glass, when it was removed it worked again. I saw in a video that the sensor may be "released" or something. I can not publish external links, but on YouTube you find videos showing possible solutions when writing nexus 6 proximity sensor fix... Sorry for my English, use a translator.

Xperia z3c proximity sensor issue

I got a Sony Xperia z3c d5833. Yesterday I installed an app named pocket lock. The main feature of this app is to lock the screen when you cover the proximity and light sensor. Now the problem is just when I Uninstalled this app, the proximity sensor permanently switched ON automatically. And I can't view my screen during calls. I replaced the proximity sensor kit and also re-installed the firmware and went into stock mm6.0.1 from kit kat 4.4.4. Also installed the lollipop 5.1.1
But invain and the problem is still there. My proximity sensor kit which I replaced with another Xperia z3c is working fine in that phone.
I need help....
There is a problem with the display glass on the Z3C separating from the sensor, with an always ON sensor the result. Google and you'll find it.
You can test it in the service menu. It will show as ON, and go OFF if you lightly press on the top left corner of the display.
So you might have a hardware problem. Sometimes just glue the display corner down works.
There are also a few fixes that disable the sensor. You really do not need it. It is a battery saving feature.

All was going fine and fantastic until I installed this fckn app pocket lock ? there's no need to change the proximity sensor kit now because I already have changed it and the most interesting thing is that the faulty proximity sensor kit doing fine in another Xperia z3c. To assure myself that new kit should work fine in my phone I flashed it thrice with three different ROMS but nothing worked. Now I'm wondering how a software can damaged a phones motherboard. It means there's only two things left for me to change, Bootloader and motherboard. D5833's bootloader isn't allowed to be unlocked so therfore I can't upgrade the bootloader, now the only thing left is motherboard of my phone. .

Question Proximity Sensor broken

Hello guys, is there a way to disable the proximity sensor or mock it somehow? Some devices also have an option to disable/enable pocket mode.
Using the phone with a bricked proximity sensor is a bummer, because I can't use AOD, tap to wake, or display new notifications. I would be really thankful if someone could help me.
PS: I always use root, so there shouldn't be any restrictions that way. I also tried xposed and the sensor disabler module, but it didn't work on A11 nor A13.
Update: the sensor is probably not fully broken, it works under bright sunlight, but only under bright sunlight.

how to disable proximity sensor (with root)?

this have been issue for Pixel devices, proximity sensor not working properly.
Mine's on same boat, proximity sensor always read something blocks (distance 0cm).
actually it does not hurt for most of time, but only 2 things.
AOD turned off, i prefer AOD is always on..
display off when calling.
There is workaround.. just press the screen, the proximity area, then it works normally for a while.
I kept doing that, and it fixed for couple of months in last winter.
It started happening again when I stayed in Desert area, 90F over night.
looks like proximity sensor should be stuck on some "right" place, but glue does not hold it tight?
I donno... anyways, it happened again when weather comes warmer.
so, I was looking for a solution, just disable the proximity sensor, or make it always 5cm reading.
nothing works so far!
first trial. use "disable sensors" in developer option.
I created a tasker command for toggle that function --> this works. but...
it disables mic as well, cannot use during phone call.
for AOD, that command does not work when screen is off. command does not go through for AOD.
second trial. use disable sensor addon for xposed (now LSPOSED with magisk)
not working on Android 13 and 12.
Looks like it worked on Android 8 or 9? not an option for pixel 5.
I gave up at this point.
Pixel 5 is great phone, light and small enough, easy to carry. performance is not great but ok for me. battery life is also ok.
easy to unlock bootloader, flip to other custom roms..
because of only for this small proximity sensor, this is hard to use for me..
Is there any way to disable it?
see this thread for a general idea of what to do.
[Q] Disable proximity sensor via terminal emulator
Hi @ all, I have that following problem: My phones display turns off automatically while im receiving or doing a call. My proximity sensor is broken and i would like disable it and i found a good solution here in this formus...
forum.xda-developers.com
that is for a HTC phone and is a 10 year old thread but I think if you can identify the correct device you can use root to effectively prevent it from changing state.
Maybe not. its been a while since I messed with Android Internals.
Worth a try.
I recently got a refurbished Pixel 5 and had this same issue, a few searches on the internet and I learned about the screen gap fiasco. If I'm not wrong isn't the reason behind the proximity issue this same screen gap on top left. As far as mine is concerned, I heated it up a little to loosen the adhesive, covered it in a soft cloth and then applied a plastic clip I had lying around on top left for compression. I left it overnight and voila the sensor works perfectly now. Also I have a relatively tight case on.
