Very slow wifi - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hello
I'm having wifi issues on my OP3T as I'm only getting about 5~10mbps down on my 2.4ghz network while my OPO, Nexus 7 and laptop get about 50mbps... It's even worse on 5ghz (1~2mbps)
It makes even basic tasks such as browsing a strugle as I'm waiting for the webpages to load let alone download apps like asphalt 8
I've heard there were some wifi issues with the OP3 but it can't be this bad....
It doesn't really matter what ROM I run, it's all the same!
Any solution for this?
Thanks

I just got the oneplus 3t, and on my home network it seems the wifi speed is limited to 50 Mbits in download and upload, while with my previous Nexus 5x I cant get 80/70 Mbits
My router do not support 5Ghz if this matter
Anyone else?

Use a file explorer...
Navigate to system>etc>wi-fi>WCNSSqom cfg.ini>
Scroll down to " gchannelBondingMode24ghz "and change this value from 0 to 1..And reboot
It will improve your wi-fi speed 30 to 50%...

In order to edit any files in system, you need root access.

Okay, I am now unlocked and rooted. I downloaded es file explorer and enabled root access, but I am not finding a folder named system.

Solid Explorer will be better app for that.
You can also install Magisk and install a module, which will replace the Wi-Fi config file for you.

U should be able to view the root section.

I ended up using solid explorer and was able to make the change but I have not seen any improvement in speed. Actually my issue is more with the 5ghz bandwidth. I max out at 433mbs on my 3t where other phones, some older, max out at 866mbs. Any ideas? I’ve reset the router and tried changing roms from stock to Lineage OS and there is no improvement.

Ad-Hoc with HC S7 4 G?

Can someone who has upgraded their 4G to HC please tell me if it will support Ad-hoc WiFi connections?

I had to root it and with Root Explorer change out the wpa-supplicant file... if you are asking about Ad-Hoc I am taking for granted you have heard about this fix for the Streaks... If not just do a little searching for the file...
Once you have it, you go to /system/bin and find the original and rename it to *.bak or *.old, doesn't matter, just something so you don't lose it in case.
You should have your new wpa_supplicant file on your sd card... move it to that same folder, toggle your wifi off and on a couple of times and reboot... and when you come back you should be able to see ad hoc networks

You are unable to connect to your Ad Hoc network?
Little more info please... does your Streak see the network? If it sees the network and is not connecting, then it's more than likely a problem with your computer and not the phone...
I always set mine up with a simple name like Toshiba which is my laptop brand and I just leave it as an open network because I only use it for a moment so I don't have to put in a password... but still, gimme some more info on what your phone is doing while it tries to connect

Ah ok... so lemme be sure you did this right... you went into /system/bin and found your wpa-supplicant file and renamed it say wpa-supplicant.bak just in case (at least I hope you did) Ok, now you should already have the new file you downloaded on your sd card correct. SO you browse to that file and copy it to the same folder /system/bin and paste it in there...
Then go to your wifi and toggle on and off a couple of times, reboot the phone for good measure and when you come back it should work, if NOT, then rename the new file to wpa-suplicant.new I guess, and the original file, remove the .bak or whatever extension you used and restart your Streak to see if you get connectivity back, if so, then there's something wrong with the file you downloaded

You never guess how dumb I am, I forgot to unzip the file. OMG
aw man really, so you were putting the whole zip file in the /system/bin?
Well I hope you get it goin!! See it's usually the little things like that that wreak havoc.
YES, it works! I think you helped me realize to unzip the file. Thanks so much!
Ok, I just upgraded to HC on my Streak 7 Wifi. I went and changed the supplicant file like I did on 2.2.2. My Streak connects, but when I connect to the internet I loose connection. Are there any other workarounds for connecting to adhoc wifi?

Not that I know of, but I haven't heard of your problem either, with the file changed out my wifi works just fine
Dell Streak 7 WiFi Rooted - Honeycomb - I also changed my WPA Supplicant and WiFi did not work right either. I had to go back to the original file.

[Q] Ad Blocking errors in internet browser while tethering through Mobile AP?

So I often watch TV show episodes on the websites for CBS, ABC, and NBC and just today for the first time I tried doing so while tethering to my phone using the Mobile AP. When I clicked on an episode, however, I received an error telling me, "This video is either unavailable or is being blocked by an ad blocker installed in your browser." The thing is, I definitely don't have an ad blocker installed in my browser; and, when I disconnected from my phone and instead connected directly to my ethernet, the video worked fine right away. I tried it for shows on NBC.com as well as ABC.com and received similar errors all pointing towards Ad Blocking software. Has anyone else ever experienced this or does anyone know the relation between tethering to Mobile AP and an Ad Blocker detection? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have two laptops and only one ethernet hookup, so I would like to be able to have good internet connected to both at once.
No one huh???

Ohhh wow I didn't even realize that ad-blocking came built into ROMs. I just quickly checked in /system/etc and did see the hosts file, opened it up and checked out the text. I tried renaming it but it was read-only, and root explorer wouldn't let me remount as r/w. I guess I'll look into it more tomorrow. But I would imagine I wouldn't want to just straight delete it right, as whatever ads it was blocking would no longer be blocked? I could just rename it any time I encountered errors while tethering to my laptop?
Does reverting through Adfree simply delete that hosts file?

if root explorer wouldnt let you mount you might have lost root somehow. re root.

I don't think I did. I just updated the su binary and when I reopened root explorer, superuser asked me if I wanted to allow root access to root explorer. I've read that before somewhere of people having trouble remounting within the /system folder. It let's me remount on folders outside /system, just not inside it. I still haven't figured it out. I suppose I could use terminal emulator right?

you were exactly right TR. i renamed the hosts file and re-tethered and i no longer received any errors about ad-blocking software. not to say the video is actually working too well tho - just keeps freezing. i guess streaming tv episodes while tethered to your phone isn't the best idea. anyway, thanks man!

Are you using stock file manager? If so go into settings and check the show hidden files option. Are you referring to accessing through a file manager or viewing a apk?
Im using rood explorer and the built in file explorer too. Cant find waze sound files among others.

[GUIDE] How to fix "Domestic Roaming" on Sprint (and other) Nougat (and other) ROMs

[GUIDE] How to fix "Domestic Roaming" on Sprint (and other) Nougat (and other) ROMs
One of the issues with running the latest Nougat ROMs on this device is that they all say "Domestic Roaming" instead of "Sprint" and also display an R instead of 3G, 1x, etc on the signal display. After much research, I've found out it's that the phone doesn't recognize the tower as a Sprint tower and thus assumes you're roaming. The fix for that is in a little file called eri.xml. What I did was take the file from this OP (all credit goes to him) and modify it a little to get it working properly (it only had three of the four needed Roaming Indicators). I've attached my modified version to the OP of this thread, but here are the steps if you want to create your own. Note that this can be done on a PC or on your phone directly. You will need root! (but since you are most likely needing this for a custom ROM, you probably have it).
If you are just using my file directly:
Download the file and copy to phone if not downloading from there.
Copy and paste the eri.xml file to /data using the file manager of your choice (must be able to browse using root).
Change the permissions on the file to 777 (ie to Read Write eXecute for Owner, Group, and Others).
Reboot phone.
If you are going to make adjustments:
Download the file.
Unzip the file and then open eri.xml in a text editor.
Open up this list of Roaming Indicators from this Github eri.xml source
On that site, use your browser's find feature to search for your carrier. For Sprint, there are four of them (0, 1, 99, 123).
In your text editor, edit RoamingIndicator="#" to match your carrier's roaming indicator number and edit EriText="Sprint" to match your carrier's name. Note that you can change the name to whatever you want and it will scroll if it's too long (or so I've read).
Repeat step 5 for all the roaming indicator numbers for your carrier.
If you need to add extra ones, use copy and paste to do so.
Make sure that NumberOfEriEntries="#" matches the number of entries you have when you finish.
Save eri.xml and copy it to your phone if it's not already there.
Copy and paste file to /data using the file manager of your choice (must be able to browse using root).
Change the permissions on the file to 777 (ie to Read Write eXecute for Owner, Group, and Others).
Reboot phone.
At this point, you should see Sprint as your carrier and no more R on the network meter in the status bar.
I almost didn't create a new thread as I didn't do much, but I wanted to keep all the Q&A and troubleshooting in one place and not clutter the other threads. Plus, I wanted to expand upon some of the steps on what you have to do. If you have any questions or need help, please let me know.

The only time I see something like that is if the file manager isn't root capable, it doesn't get root permissions somehow, or the phone isn't rooted. What file managing app are you using? I did this successfully using Solid Explorer File Manager, although I'm sure any other one that gets root would do.

I used root browser on Resurrection Remix. It has Privacy Guard which asked if I wanted to grant root browser access, and I granted it. Root browser asked me to install busybox, which I did. I moved the file to /data successfully. However, it still didn't gain permission successfully.

Hmm... I looked and that's the exact ROM I tested it on. You'll find my post on the first page and yours is on the second. I don't think I installed a different su program like SuperSU. Two ideas:
1. Make sure you give Root Browser permanent root access.
2. Try a different file manager. I used Solid Explorer with no issue. If you don't want to buy it, try other free ones first. I think MiExplorer (I think that's its name) is free on XDA and is nice.
Thanks for the suggestions. I used solid explorer and it seemed like it worked. Permissions were still 777 after reboot, but I still don't get mobile data. My network says "Sprint" instead of "Domestic Roaming", at least.
Changing roms doesn't help, correct?

Not getting mobile data is different than what this file does. This just fixes the displaying Domestic Roaming issue - it's just cosmetic.
I had no data issues on that ROM. The One m7 lacks some of Sprint's LTE bands and well it's Sprint, but that's not a ROM issue. Maybe try flashing back to a Sense ROM and updating Profile and PRL and then flash back to RR.

Thanks! I've fixed the link to a similar one. The original link was the same file as this one and both only seemed to include Sprint. But, you can find Verizon there as well. As for others, you may need to search to get the right numbers.

I think I tested on that one and it worked. If you followed the steps completely (restarted?), then I'm not sure why it's still telling you "Domestic Roaming" unless you truly are roaming.
Problem is, my m7 isn't activated anymore, so I can't really verify that nothing's changed with the ROMs since I tested things. Although they shouldn't have since I don't think they've been updated (I'm pretty sure I tested on 5.8.2 or RR).

Host file not working Pie with Nokia 8

Hello!
I have now even rooted my Nokia 8 with pie and put the hosts file in /etc/ but it does not work. Neither via wifi nor mobile. Only when I turn on my vpn ads are blocked.
Any ideas how this can be fixed? I use firefox 65.
Thanks
why not just use the host file module found in Magisk? or rather use Adaway. Both work perfectly fine on my Nokia 8
As I already stated, with my vpn it works! I want to know why it does not without and HOW to make it work as it is supposed to work. Thank you for help here... surely some more people must use a hosts file successfully with firefox and pie.
Wow, just installed MS Edge and with it the hosts file works. So it is clearly a firefox issue then. Anybody knows what setting it is in firefox to fix this???
