Can't connect to both Cell data and Local Adhoc Wifi website - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Have a Nexus 6 Rooted; Android 7.0 Stock and attempting to:
1) Stay Connected to cellular data
2) Connect via WiFi to Local Ad-Hock Network ( DHCP); "SharedData"
3)Access both WWWeb sites via browser, and the local webserver on the local WiFi ad-hock network ( @ DHCP 192.168.4.1 on SSID "SharedData")
*Constraint: Can not change webserver from current IP scheme which is
SSID: "SharedData"
BSSID: f4:55:95:11:3a:3f
Lease duration: 86400
Server address: 192.168.4.1
Broadcast address: 192.168.4.255
DNS(1) address: 192.168.4.1
DNS(2) address: 0.0.0.0
Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 192.168.4.1
IF the Cell side data connection is disabled, can connect to local WiFi network, and access the local webserver, but once the Cell side data is re-enabled, the WiFi stays connected but browser request for HTTP: //192.168.4.1 fail and can no longer reach the local webserver.
Seems to be a routing / DNS tied issue, but not sure how Android handles request when cell data and wifi are both active and handling request.
Any ideas of a configuration that preferable will not require root would be appreciated, any and all idea are appreciated.
Thanks!

Your issue is that it cant be used at the same time as they use the same hardware. As an example. When mms comes in and you are connected to wifi the radio disables the wifi connection for a sec to download it on the cell network. They both use the same antenna so only one connection is active at a time.

Specifying hosts per connection
I run my own email server at home. When my HTC Touch Diamond is connected to my home network say via WiFi I need to contact my server (defaria.com) with it's private IP (192.168.x.x). However when I'm connect to the internet via say WiFi I need to contact my server via its public IP address (65.101.22.21). What I want to do is override defaria.com's IP address but only on my internal WiFi connection. IOW I wish to set the /etc/hosts for this specific WiFi connection. Can this be done?
[Q] Can't connect to internet via WiFi
I have tried many times to connect to the internet through a WiFi connection. The phone finds WiFi connections OK but when I click on Internet Explorer, the phone tries to connect via GPRS. I have tried reading the other threads and reading through 'how to connect' on the phone but have not found a solution. I have had my XDA2i for many years and just changed the digitiser pad and LCD. I've never connected to a WiFi network, despite many tries.
Initial questions: What IP address has it given you... is it 192.... or 169.... ? And what is the IP address of your router?
When I select 'Wireless LAN Manager' it displays Status: Connected to network SSID: O2wireless**** Tx Rate:Auto Mode: Infrastructure Channel: 1 BSSID: **-**-**-**-**-** MAC: **-**-**-**-**-** IP: 169.254.***.***. Renew IP Signal quality = 80% Good I don't know what any of these numbers mean. I have left out some info, as I don't know what is private. Is the IP address mine or the network I'm trying to connect to? I don't have a wireless network. I just want to connect to hot spots when I'm out, like my friends do.

Click to collapse The IP address of 169.... means that the Router you are connected to isn't giving out dynamic addresses (DHCP)... Dynamic means that you are given your IP address by the router. You couldd eclare a Static IP address, but for using hotspots you need to use Dynamic. Where are you testing this? If it's a friend's router, get them to check that DHCP is enabled and that its giving out addresses (could test with a wireless laptop).
The info I posted is a router I am picking up near my house. When I'm out, we often go to a Hotel which has free wireless networking. My friend picks it up on her Blackberry with no problems. I can pick it up up but Internet Explorer always tries to connect using GPRS. I'm supposed to be the computer geek, so it's very embarrassing.
Well if you're only getting a 169... IP address then you're not going to get anywhere... When you turn on wifi it should first of all start 'Scanning Network', then you get the SSID, etc and then get (say) a 192.... address. If you don;t get the 192 address then for some reason you're not picking up a dynamic ip address...
[Q] Wifi Hotspot not working (DNS Problem)
Hello All, Internet is not working on my laptop when I use my Incredible S's WIFI Hotspot. Connection is ok with following IPs: Laptop IP: 192.168.1.80 DHCP Server IP: 192.168.1.1 DNS Server IP: 192.168.1.1 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 When I use USB tethering everything goes fine but when I use WIFI Hotspot, internet doesnot work. I configured that my Laptop is unable to get the DNS resolution from my mobile as I can still connect Skype on my laptop. I cannot ping www.google.com but if I can put the direct IP of google server (like 173.194.34.164) I get the ping response. This means my DNS server is having problems in resolving web addresses for my laptop. I am using stock ICS 4.0.4. Please help
hi did u tried disabling firewall
[Q] Connecting to WiFi with static IP
Work WiFi... Our company uses a static IP. Well I can not get my phone to connect to the internet. The phone will connect to the router. It will obtain an IP but it will not connect to the internet. I've gone in changed settings in the phone to static IP.. used the DNS in the router as well as Google DNS and still no luck.. ios devices hook up to this router just fine after changing their static IP settings.. Any thoughts??
Whether you get an internet connection or not - assuming you're using the right password, encryption, mask, etc., is up to the settings in he router. Ask the network admin to set your phone's IP address and MAC address to get a full connection.
Can someone help woth routing.

Im connect to my vpn on my phone and route the vpn through my hotspot so every computer gets the public address and all that is working. My hotspot config is gateway 192.168.2.1 and the ddwrt router that my clients connect to is 192.168.2.5. Problem is. When i connect to the vpn it changes the gw and i cannot ping or connect to any services on 192.168.2.5 from the phone. However i can ping 192.168.2.1.
