I am a HTC M9 user and due to some sepolicy issue(perhaps) in latest stable SuperSU (2.78), I can only use 2.65 to prevent a bootloop problem currently.
According to the information in Magisk v6 known issue, issue in sepolicy-injection tool is known and will be fixed in v7. In v7 sticky, it does use own sepolicy-injection tool, I assume it does fix something now.
But, according to the information in v7 sticky:
Code:
Installation Instructions
(NOTE: I don't feel comfortable to redistribute SuperSU unless I have explicit permission, so for now, if you want to use SuperSU with Magisk, you are required to have systemless SuperSU installed before flashing Magisk. Magisk will detect SuperSU installation and automatically convert systemless SuperSU into a Magisk Module, using the files that are already installed to your boot image. System installed SuperSU is obviously not supported, since it is not systemless. Actually, it is a trivial task to add official Magisk support to a SuperSU zip package, however the decision is not in my hands.)
If you're rooted with Official Systemless SuperSU, or using Magisk v3+ with Magisk version of phh's superuser
Install the latest Magisk Manager
Install/upgrade Magisk as prompted in the application
Reboot and you're done!!
If you're not rooted, rooted with the depreciated Magisk Version of SuperSU, using Magisk version older than v3, or you got issues when flashing in Magisk Manager (some devices requires Magisk to be flashed in recovery to find boot image location)
(If you have Magisk installed) Flash Magisk Uninstaller to get a clean start
Download the latest Magisk zip file
Download the latest Magisk Version phh superuser from this thread:
[Magisk] [2016.10.4] phh's SuperUser
Flash both zips in custom recovery
Install the latest Magisk Manager for a complete Magisk experience
Since I've donated on SuperSU Pro, I'd prefer to make it work in higher priority, therefore 2nd method is not in my consideration now. If I start from a brand new phone (RUUed device with fresh TWRP recovery only), there's 3 ways I tried to apply Magisk v7, here's the process and result:
1. Flash SuperSU 2.65, and the system should count as "If you're rooted with Official Systemless SuperSU" state.
=> Update SuperSU 2.65 to 2.78 with SuperSU own update process in apk, reboot required, SUCCESS.
=> Install latest MagiskManager, SUCCESS
=> MagiskManager got SuperSU authorized, SUCCESS (root still working at moment)
=> MagiskManager found latest version (v7) and suggest to install it, accept and reboot, SUCCESS(boot successfully)
=> Open SuperSU apk, FAILED (root lost, not able to find su binary)
2. Flash SuperSU 2.65 and then follow by Magisk v7 zip
=> Root does't work, cannot find su binary, FAILED
3. Flash SuperSU 2.78 and then follow by Magisk v7 zip (assuming Magisk V7 will repatch the kernel with fixed tools and the boot loop can be fixed)
=> Bootloop, FAILED
Is there anyone success in any configuration on HTC M9?

Am using an honor 7 PLK-L01 with MM build B370.
Also tried the first method you described with SuperSU 2.62, difference being that magisk manager could not install v7 zip so flashed it manually. It said something about
Insufficient storage for boot image
and kind of aborted.
Since then flashing SuperSU says seplocy failed and aborts.
Tried flashing a new boot and rooting, still the same.
Flashed boot and Cust, the same error both with magisk and SuperSU.
Cleared dalvik and cache, still the same.
Tried the magisk uninstaller, no success...
Would appreciate a solution.

bump, says installing su helper, then there is no root upon boot. supersu cant find binary and magisk manager crashes due to no root

Had to flash system, boot and Cust to root again using SuperSU.
Otherwise it was failing and flashing only boot did not cut the deal.

I have the same issue. Could not get SuperSU 2.65 running with Magisk.

Magisk ver 6 works well but have to have that zip and it's corresponding apk I guess 1.2 that is.
Used it a couple of days ways back just to make sure it works.
An update that it works after Magisk v8, although there's no information about it.
(Flash SuperSu v2.65 -> Update to SuperSU v2.78 with Google Play -> update su binary to v2.78 with SuperSU -> install Magisk Manager v2.1 -> Install Magisk v8 with Manager -> done!)
I have the root with Magisk in Android 8.0. At first, the warning always came out asking if you wanted to grant root rights to the application that you just opened. However, this warning is no longer displayed, even though the configuration of Magisk Manager is configured in this way.
In the Magus Superuser section, I do not see any trace of the applications that I can not 'root'.
I have updated Magisk Manager, but the error continues. I also removed BusyBox, but the error continues.
I can not give root permission to any other application. But the mobile is rooted, since the first applications that I installed that require root continue to function normally. I can even deactivate the root and then activate it again.
Reinstalling the applications is not solved. With Dalvik and Caché wipe either.
That could be happening? How is it solved?
____
Magisk Manager has all the permissions of everything (memory, background, manual battery mode). I have tried to reinstall Magisk Manager and nothing.
Deactivating BusyBox (Magisk module) and Xposed and restarting still does not work.
Returning to install the Magisk image by TWRP or Fastboot is not fixed either.
I have removed all the fret that I had done to the phone (BusyBox, Xposed, root Magisk and boot modified for the root) and the problem has not been solved. I do not know what may be happening. I do not have other rare applications.
I have installed Device Control and the TWRP application. I have not gotten the root request to skip (although it has activated that option in Magisk Manager).
Definitely, it is not the fault of the new applications, which was the first question I wanted to solve.
Magisk version:
19.3 (19300)
And from Manager 7.2.0 (213), although I have also tried 7.3.2 (224).
The root is done with patching (via Magisk) of RAMDISK.IMG.
I understand that some applications are not compatible with systemless. But I'm not going any of the new ones that I'm trying. Interestingly, other applications compatible with Magisk (except those that installed the first days of the mobile) do not work either.
I have installed Magisk Manager 7.0.0 (and also 6.1.0), but the bug is still there. It seems that it does not depend on the APK.
As my Magisk file to root consists of a patch of RAMDISK.IMG created directly from Magisk Manager I do not know how to create one based on a lower version (for example, version 18.1). It only gives me the option to patch with the latest Magisk Manager version (if I have a lower one, it asks me to update the APK).
Whenever I generate the IMG of my patched RAMDISK.img it is based on 19.3.
How could I generate a patched IMG based on a lower version?
I have microG, not the GApps. Could that influence? Does Magisk need them?

I'm going to do it today. Will I lose data if I install SYSTEM.img via Fastboot?

Hallo to all experts. Root and Magisk Manager 6.x worked well. I tried to Update Magisk Manager to 7. Then Magisk was not recognized. Updating Magisk didn't Worked automatically within the App I had to Mark a File to be patched. I was afraid of doing that. So I installed via twrp. The onscreen Message said this Worked well. I wiped cash and davlik. After the Reboot the same; magisk Manager detekts magisk 19.3 not. Older versions of magisk Manager do neither.
Flashing First magisk 19.3 and then magisk Manager ja also without success.
Titanium backup don't work because it hast no permission (SU Not instslled)
Root Checker Tells it is not rooted
Other Apps don't Work because they detect root
My Device is a Samsung Galaxy S8
Any Ideas?
Update to Magisk Manager 7.2.3. didn't solve the Problem

Update to Magisk Manager 7.2.3. didn't solve the problem
In 25.1, I'd enabled zygisk and used magiskhide then frozen the renamed magisk app using SDmaid in order to use banking app.
I upgraded to 25.2 via twrp but couldn't see the magisk app as it was frozen. At this point SD maid had lost root so I couldn't unfreeze the old app.
I installed the latest APK but it doesn't think magisk is installed and the only option given is to patch boot IMG which seems pointless as magisk 25.2 already flashed using recovery successfully (result 1.000).
Any ideas most welcome. Would prefer not to wipe data as a few of my apps need special manual verification by their support team each time they're installed which is cumbersome.
Hi All,
Foolishly I decided to let Magisk Manager update itself. I was cautious about actually updating Magisk, because it bricked a similar phone a while back. Unfortunately, Magisk hung, so I tried several things:
Deleting the app cache (No effect)
Deleting Magisk Manager data (No effect)
Using the Settings app, I uninstalled Magisk (probably a mistake, but Magisk would not run) (It was gone.)
Installed Magisk 20.0 from zip (Nothing showed up)
Installed Magisk 16 from zip (It appeared and the manager ran, but no root)
Installed Magisk 25.2 (Magisk hangs, but I have root again)
This is where I am stuck. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob
Hi, i had the same issue and reinstalled manager 23....
