LE S3, unrooted, using nova launcher. Two sim cards: one is ATT, the other is China Unicon(roaming on ATT). Just had the phone about three weeks.
My S3 often reboot itself, during text message, or browsing, or playing youtube, or in some apps, or even it is screen off resting on my desk. I couldn't find a pattern.
I performed factory reset and install about 10 frequently used apps. It has just 1 reboot over last 24 hours. I was cast youtube to chromecast and the phone was screen off and resting.
Another annoying issue is the fingerprint randomly lost function, it refuses my fingerprint. If I tried to add a new fingerprint, it prompted let me clean my finger and fingerprint identifier. Usually a reboot will solve the issue. But sometime it lost fingerprint function after a reboot.
Does anyone have similar experience? what could be the cause of those two issues? Is there any debugging log that can be checked? Should I contact support to get a fix/replacement?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks.

Ever since the update to Oreo I've been constantly having this issue and it's extremely irritating and can't figure out how to stop it from happening. Basically at least once a day now, sometimes more than once it refuses to use the fingerprint scanner and wants me to enter my password or now my PIN since I switched to the less secure pin just to make it less of a pain everytime this happens and I just want it to go back to working properly so I can have the password again, does anyone know how to fix this issue? It's an unlocked note 8 and it's not rooted or anything, just a stock phone.
It's probably because you're phone has restarted and requires a pin after a restart before it'll use biometrics - It's a problem on Oreo, it's basically just a completely cr*p update that's broken so many things.
Samsung as usual, don't seem to give a stuff!
Nope, it's not a restart that's causing it, that's an entirely different message, especially since the phone's encrypted so the phone won't even start up on a reboot till the encryption password is entered. This is just a it randomly won't accept the fingerprint to unlock, I've turned the phone off then turned it right back on to unlock it and this has happened, 100% certain it had nothing to do with rebooting.
I've read some people saying they had an app that force locked the phone and that causes this and removing it fixed the problem, but I don't have any app that does that.
I have an unlocked note 8 too, I only use iris validation (finger print does not reliably work for me because of my eczema), the only time i have ever encountered this was when the phone went to lock screen while trying to access bio-metric validation (banking app, only ever happened once, i disabled fingerprint after due to unreliability relating to eczema as previously mentioned)
Maybe not the same issue but fingerprint unlock never works for me reliably. I get that message when my fingerprint can't be recognized. I have working hands so often my fingers get knicked, scratched, etc or even just wet causing my fingerprint not register. If I reregister fingerprint with out a perfect fingerprint, after my fingers heal, can't be recognized again. Happened on my Note 5 as well so I stopped using fingerprint to unlock.
Don't think that's the issue for me, I never have any issues with the fingerprint reader normally, it always works great when it actually lets me use it.
So I've had my ROG Phone 2 for over a month now, and I've noticed something odd about the fingerprint login... About once every two or three days, the fingerprint login stops working (doesn't show up on the lock screen) and I have to login with my pin. As soon as I login with my pin the fingerprint login immediately starts working again. At first I thought my phone must be randomly restarting itself (cause at first login you have to use the pin) but it's not doing that because all my apps are still open when I log in and I never hear the Asus ROG bootup sound. Has anyone else had this happen?

Same here....I am using 8/128 GB Tencent Variant.
This is a new security feature in the current versions of Android, to insure the correct person is still logging in. I've yet to see a way to bypass it on any phone.

Oh ok! Good to know, at least it's not a malfunction or anything then. It is only mildly annoying so I can live with it.

Also using the 8gb/128gb Tencent version. As Mr_Mooncatt posted though, I guess this is a new security feature of Android.
I can confirm this is not any fault with your phone.
Even Samsung have this similar thing that when you login few times with fingerprint, then it will all of sudden ask for you to type in your password or pin or w.e you got as second login method.
This is to make sure no one has been able to copy your fingerprint and then using it to keep accessing your device. So once this comes, they will be locked out from your device until they type in your password or pin or so.
I use a fingerprint lock and after the last update I get this message quite a bit, perhaps hourly. It used to occur about every two days, which probably wasn't enough, but now having to type my rather complex password a dozen times per day is annoying. It's not like I even sat the phone down -- it stays in my pocket and sometimes does this despite never leaving my hand. I even use "SmartLock" with my bluetooth watch, which hasn't helped. Any idea short of a firmware downgrade to improve this?

I never have to use a password except just after a reboot, so having to do it once every two days is already abnormal to me
And I use smartlock with a bluetooth watch as well, that smart lock will ask me to use fingerprint after some idle time though
I searched for this issue for close to a month will no resolve.
Today I finally read what I've been experiencing!
My phone would jump to lock screen asking for pin while it was in in use with google apps and 3rd party apps.
I also had smartlock active @ home, my vehicle and BT devices.
In my vehicle while navigating with maps and on my bike using a trail map app it would go black screen/pin. It would also happen with spotify the screen would go black but ask for pin when screen was touched.
At home it would be in the news feed, messenger, FB, etc.....black screen/lock screen.
Numerous factory wipes and 3rd party apps deletions didn't resolve.
I started the warranty process with google. I wasted time with their CSR trying to T/S online. , I went to ubreakifix 3 times at google's insistence to get it rechecked, ubreakifix duplicated the issue and couldn't do anything for me.
They recommended replacement.
Google was hesitant because ubreakifix couldn't confirm a hardware issue. Ubreakifix wouldn't and couldn't diagnose hardware because they have no replacement parts for the Pixel 5.
Google agreed but would not send a device until my was sent back. They suggested going through my wireless provider for a loaner. My provider did but then they sent it off to their repair center instead of Google and found nothing abnormal and sent it back to me.
I just got it back yesterday after 2 weeks, I had one lock up yesterday.
I read that last night's security update resolved a "sensor" issue and I'm hoping that was the original issue.
This device is not on my recommended list.
I miss my 3XL, the size, the haptics, the squeeze are things I miss from that phone.
My kid reminded me everyday for the 10 days I was without mine.

This happened to me just once last night. Not sure why/what triggered it but fortunately it only has happened the one time.
Hi Everyone,
It has been going on for roughly a year now, while I'm using my phone it suddenly just freezes entirely. Touchscreen just becomes unresponsive, can't tap on anything, gestures don't work and notification bar can't be pulled down.
Physical buttons does not seem to be affected, even if my screen is totally frozen I can still adjust volume levels and I can lock the phone via the power button. After locking and unlocking my phone, everything goes back to normal, touch responsiveness comes back and starts working as it should till the next hiccup.
It happens frequently, there are times when the screen locks up 2 or 3 times in a 10 minute period window. Every time this happens, I need to lock and unlock my phone and it starts working again.
Also it doesn't seem like a specific application is doing it, it happens when I'm browsing websites via Google Chrome, it happens with Amazon App, Messenger, Google Play Store, even on the Google News feed.
It gets more and more annoying as time goes by and it still hasn't been fixed.
I have been in contact with Google Support in the beginning when it started, but all they suggested is that I should do a Factory Reset (which I did).
Has anyone else experienced this issue or is it just my device doing this?
PS.: My phone is fully stock, hasn't been messed around.
Any physical damage to the device? & Have you tried checking if the issue occurs in safe mode too? If it is caused by a 3rd party or background app it wont replicate in safe mode.
Scan with Malwarebytes.
Try clearing system cache.
Try safe mode and a hard reboot.
That qualifies for erratic behavior and may be the only sign of a virus or trojan you'll see... at first.
Either way you could be headed for a boot loop.
Regardless even if Malwarebytes finds nothing it's factory reset time. Nuke it; a trojan can do a lot of damage to you in a short amount of time.
After the reload change your Google password.
Before you load -anything- make sure the issue is gone!
If it persists it's either a firmware or more likely a hardware failure.
I put it in one thread as it may be connected. My Mi 5 behaves strangely for some time. It occasionally freezes, but not totally. I can, for instance, enable/disable WiFi, but an application gets stuck. After a while phone restarts by itself, but then very often freezes on LineageOS initial animation. I need to restart it manually by pressing the power button.
To make it more interesting, almost each time that results in a reset of some style settings (like icon style) and an inability to use existing fingerprints. They are still visible in the fingerprint settings, but apps that used them can't see them anymore (just inform that "you probably changed or deleted your fingerprints, activate it again"). I also cannot unlock my screen with fingerprints (after entering password once). The only way is to delete old fingerprints and add new ones.
I generated logcat files after such reboots, but they usually don't cover the time before a restart, as if the logs were cleared.
I have LineageOS 18.1-20220508-NIGHTLY-gemini.
I attach logcat examples:
Logcat_1 - sudden, partial freeze and auto-restart, which got stuck (12.05.2022 about 19:48). Fingerprints not lost. Surprisingly there are some logs from February which jump straight to the time after restart.
Logcat_2 - sudden auto-restart (15.04.2022, about 11:07) with fingerprints lost. (LOS 17.1). Again logs from a month before the restart just disappeared.
Do you think that may be a hardware issue? Similar strange things happend on LineageOS 17.1 just before an upgrade (about a month ago). Sometimes nothing happens for a week and sometimes I have a problem day after day.
Given that Lineage OS was flashed to your device, and if this issue did not happen before Lineage OS was flashed, I would suggest it a software issue.
To solve this issue, if you can still enter recovery
- format data - "yes";
- clean-flash a new rom.
I would suggest you flash a rom from lineage official website: https://lineageos.org/ if it was no so or a stock rom or a rom from XDA forum.
