Weak vibration - Asus ZenWatch 3

I can barely feel the vibrations from notifications and often miss them completely. They are much weaker than on the Gear S2 which I had before. Is there a setting I am missing?

Same here pretty sure it's just a very weak motor. One star off for weak vibrator motor

Yup very weak, I even opened it up to see if I can add some padding to amplify the vibrations. Also it is very easy to repair see my teardown on ifixit

Great will check it out

I don't think it's very weak.
I had 2 month both gear s3 classic and Frontier and didn't find the vibration more strong than Zenwatch 3.
It's just normal level.
Unless you are living/working in loudness environment

Use "Feel The wear" and you can change notification vibe pattern

I am wondering if this is what is happening to me. I just got my watch yesterday and all today I've been thinking my watch hasn't been vibrating on notifications.. but maybe it has, and I am not feeling it...?

Weird Vibration Motor

Hey Guys,
I noticed that the Xperia uses a strange vibration motor.
With all the other devices i have owned i have not had this before.
usually when you type on your keyboard and it uses vibration, it will vibrate the same way every time.
With this one i notice the vibration builds up.
so the faster you type or make it vibrate after another, it will increase in vibration strength.
do you also have this or is it just mine?
Yes it's normal.
Next time use the Q&A forum to ask your questions.

so i read the comment about vibration motor on verge review, their review likes this vibration motor.
i am very curious to what it actually is like to use it.
my phone is coming in a week so cant wait.

I turned all vibration except ringing off. I do not like it at all. I prefer the standard vibration other phones have. It does to that building up thing the faster you type. It's either because of poor PWM control if it even uses PWM or an underpowered motor.

Just because YOU don't like it, don't rag on it. It's standard that way, that's how it was designed to vibrate. Don't like it?

Well my Z1 is going back to Expansys over the vibration motor. Hit the back key a few times so speed builds up then if I hit any other button I get a weird scratching sound, literally like a DJ scratching some vinyl, as I can't be without a phone I've had to order a new one from Expansys!!!

I've had the exact same situation with my Z. Didn't try it on the Z1 but seems like they have a similar issue.

Mine dose the same thing. It's normal~
Seems same than in new samsung galaxy phones. It'll even vibrate same tune than random mp3 ringtone
My first Z1 did the wind up and also was stronger when alerts came through I could feel them in my pocket. I had to exchange my handset Thursday and this feels underpowered, so I checked another unit today and it's the same as my one now. I wonder if the first so many handsets had overpowered vibration motors in them?

Hi, ended up here while searching for vibration problems with my xepria z1.
I believe the vibration is not strong enough when receiving a notification: I can barely feel it...
What is all this fuzz about vibration motor?
Really, in the office, where my phone is in vibration mode only, laying on the desk, I can't feel and I can't hear the vibration...

This isn't normal. Mine did the same thing and gave a weird noise that builds up the faster you type. I actually had another issue where the left audio channel didn't work when using headphones. So I sent it back for repair only to get a replacement unit because they couldn't fix the audio issue.
After receiving my brand new Z1 I noticed I now have a perfectly working vibration motor as well, no building up when typing fast and no weird noise. So this isn't exactly normal and I do think it is a defective or overpowered vibration motor.
I would get a replacement unit.

Mine have exactly the same problem
will try to contact Sony Center for the replacement, if they allow to replace it in my country
Sorry to being this old thread up. I was merely doing my search.
I tell ya.. this is clearly a design flaw. Either the motor or the driver - unable to give specific pulses.
You tap ten characters successively and you get 1 straight buzz all the way,.. and ya guys actually like it?
Ten taps should result in 10 distinctive vibration pulses.
One reason why I sold the XZ was this. And earlier I tested the Z1c in a shop and it had the same issue.
I've used a lot of phones before and none of them behave this way. The Sony is clearly the odd one out.

Gear speakerphone quality

Hello. Yesterday I have purchased a new black galaxy gear and after pairing with my note 3 and making all the necessary settings, I realized that when I raise the volume level up to the maximum (+6), I hear distortion from my calling mate.
I am referring to the sound during a phone conversation (coming from the gear's bracelet speakerphone) that seems to be quite low (only in a quite environment I can easily hear the other party) and If I raise the sound level -in my gear- during a call to the maximum , the voice of the other party is a little bit muffled.
Should I expect top notch quality from the speaker (like let's say note 3) or I shall compensate with what I get (small earpiece, poor volume level).
I appreciate any reports on that matter, to see if my device should be replaced...
Thank you in advance.

It was never built to have a GREAT speakerphone quality, It was meant mostly for the times you have your hands full, or the phone is somewhere else. It's a supplement to the phone's phone capability, not a replacement!

Yes I understand that, but I would like from other gear's owners to clarify if maximizing the sound level during a call produce a little cracking noise (especially if the other party has strong voice) at times or my gear has bad speaker and needs to be replaced.
Thank you!
Mine does the same thing when I raise it to 6. But I really don't use the watch in public because the sound quality doesn't work that well in well populated areas.
But I'll give you my opinion on what Samsung was trying to do with calling ability of the watch.
1. Chores around the house, you don't have to lug your phone around the house, leave it in a neutral room, and when you cooking, cleaning etc
2. In the office, let's say you in a meeting put your watch and phone on vibrate and you can just look at your wrist to see who is calling or if the text message is important.
3. Jobs that don't allow cell phones to be out. We'll now your phone is on your wrist, so unless your job bans wrist watches then you are good.
If you are trying to look cool in public then I'm gonna burst your bubble, you don't look cool using it with your wrist turned the other way all the way up to your ear, and then removing it and talking into it. You just look like a moron doing it.
So in conclusion the watch is good to have when you are busy or have both hands tied up when you are frying chicken.

On mine no BUT this does not mean your situation is not real. One must take into account several matters when debating this subject. The first being ones carrier. Vodafone here is useless for the quality of their call reception. Other carriers differ also.
Expectations of the owner. I find the speaker in the bracelet acceptable considering what it is. This will be personal though. Hi-Fi it is not nor is it expected to be. Have you the chance of trying another gear to see if you have a problem device, that can also happen in all devices of this nature. I hope you manage to resolve this situation.
Rgeards.
Guys, thank you both for your answers.
So, any other owners that upon raising their gear's sound level to (+5, +6) distorts the other party's sound?
Sadly, I don't have access to an other gear (friend, demo unit in a mall etc) to test out his watch, so I heavily rely on your feedback to decide upon dealing with the fuss regarding exchanging or not.
5 is where I leave mine. 6 (and notice the controls turn RED for some reason haha) can introduce a little distortion.
I use the speakerphone in the following places - car, office, home (on the couch or walking around) and it is perfect. Any type of loud environment makes it very hard to hear and I'll just use my phone.

Very good point. Not too long ago, I am bike riding with my Note 3 in my back pack.. A call comes in from my son. I answer it on the Gear, and I have hearing problems and I minus my hearing aids. However, I was able to answer the call, have a short 2 to 3 min conversation. Make call pretty well. Sure, I didn't expect the quality of sound from my Note 3, but even with my hard of hearing, I was able to hear, they heard me, calls were recieved and made, without me stopping, digging down and bring my phone out of the back pack..
The Gear is a suppliment. However, if the OP is a little skeptical, I think he should return it for another one. That doesn't cost anything but a little time and gas money, and will give the OP peice of mind that his Gear is normal..
I returned one, and I later found out that the problem was USER ERROR, but I have piece of mind.

2. does not work so well. when someone calls me, it takes even up to 8 seconds before the calling number is changed to a currently assigned name in my contacts. this is unacceptable! i want to glance at the watch and decide what next, i don't want to wait for such a long time before i can see the name.. this is clearly because contacts are not stored on device at all, everytime you request contact list, it's being streamed to you. terrible solution samsung.
3. this will not work in all places. if using phone is forbidden it does not mean you can use/make calls from tablet or smartwatch..
So guys, what your opinion?
Could this gadget be used in speaker mode in the car and in quite places without having to put it in your ear?
Thank you.

Today I am planning to return and ask for a replacement. +5, +6 is practically unacceptable (too much distortion). Comparing gear's and note 3's speakerphone mode is like comparing apple and orange, a totally different experience.
Should it be like this...?
Considering the gear has a smaller speaker not optimized for music, therfore it isn't that loud. Sometimes I can't almost hear the people I talk on the phone too at work. I will put my hand over my ear. Like if I was using an invisible phone love the gear!

Anyone else have Nexus 6 with loose noisy vibrator?

Mine sounds and feels lile the early nexus 5, loose and rattly.
Anyone else have this? Thinking of returning to CPW as I just got it yesterday
It's a moto thing. They always use crap motors soldered into the board.
I noticed the same thing. hopefully the kernel devs eventually tweak the intensity. seems like the phone will rattle apart sometimes lol

Same here, turned off vibration on Swiftkey. That sound is irritating.
I noticed that having certain touch sounds caused the speakers to make a sound that is similar to the vibration sound after the touch sound is played. Turned them off and I don't hear it anymore.
feels like a shaver next to me
Took mine back today due to a faulty USB port, this one is miles smoother on the vibration

Speaker differences top vs.bottom

A while ago I noticed, that the speakers are not giving out the same output when listening to music. The top speaker's output is more thin and has more treble, while the bottom speaker has more bass. This would not be an issue, if the top speaker would not cause issues (resonate, crackle) on certain ringtones/music when played loud.
After reading some users' experiences I found out, that for some the top speaker has more bass, for others the bottom one, but never the same output.
My questions are:
How are your speakers?
Is it possible to somehow balance the difference between the two?
So i presume, I'm the only one
They are fine on mine.

Unfortunately I did not find any solution, as it was pointed out by many people - it may be due to the hardware differences between units.
I already sold the device to my friend and moved on to the OPO.
I'm having issues too. When I do a factory reset the bottom speaker works fine but after a few days it will stop working. I specifically did a restore and didn't change any settings to see if it would stick but it stopped working again. Since it's the bottom speaker I can't user speaker phone during calls.
Mine is Bass at the bottom, treble at the top. Although the volume sounds equal. I think it's a feature not a Bug. A balance.

It's not a feature. Only a idiot would create a feature like that. Come to think of it, Sony mobile dept is just a lame bunch of retards. I got mine from the first batch and the touch panel on mine is a pos (touch grids are visible) and deltaE of the display deviates so far off. It's the worst IPS display I've seen in my whole life. Somehow the display on my friend's Z3C is much better (no visible touch grids pattern) but hers has battery drain and flap problems. I got mine on Sept last year and she got hers last month. I guess mine and hers are from different batches.
I can't believe a reputable company like Sony would pull a dirty scheme like this just to save a few bucks. F Sony. They don't give a crap about their customers. I'm ditching these idiots.

Battery drain could be caused by apps and software bugs, don't jump to conclusions on "battery drain", mine last 6 hours on 3G continuous usage, normal usage, 15 hours +. Flaps? My phone passes the pressure test, but water keeps on getting in from the USB/SD flap, every time I put it in the water. I scrutinised each and every centimetre of the phone. Only possible point of entry for the water is through the flap, I'm guessing it's defective. Too busy to get a replacement part, but I'll soon, install a new flap, SHOULD fix the issue. There are tons of other software/hardware bugs on all Sony Z devices reported by thousands of users. This is the last Sony phone I buy. The next time, it'll be HTC or LG.
By the way the next best brand would be Meizu, they are partners with Sony and they make phones better than Sony.

Call Audio Quality? Something not right

My wife and I both pre-ordered n7's. The 2 phones are great. I noticed i couldn't hear my wife sometimes when i called her note 7 from my note 7. She then had other people tell her she sounded muffled, or like she was far away in a tunnel. It seemed that if her mouth drifted slightly away from the phone all sound would drop. I tested this problem by staying in my car on phone with her. Visibly i could validate that the sound dropped off when she didn't have her mouth close to the mic. Never had this issue on prior note 2, 3, or 4. I exchanged hers for a new note but problem persisted and she then said she couldn't hear me sometimes. I found myself obsessing on this wondering if we're crazy or are there any other people who have and love the phone but think phone call quality sucks slightly.

I have had the exact same issue with my phone as well.
My very first call with the phone, the person on the other side couldn't hear me until my mouth was practically touching the mic. Anytime I moved more than like a quarter of an inch from it, I dropped off. Since then, I've also tested this out with my friends and they say that as soon as I moved away from the phone, it sounds like I've "dropped off the edge of the Earth". And whenever I try to use my headphones that were clear on my V10, they say I sound muffled. I've resorted to only using the phone at home now cuz I have to pretty much use speakerphone for anyone to hear me normally.
I've tried finding setting for like Voice Clarity or Call Clarity in the Phone app, but nothing. I would love to find a solution, but I'm hoping this is a fluke that the once I get a replacement phone, it'll go away.
And for the record, I've been using my phone naked since I got it, running Stock OS.

Wow, same exact situation. My wife had no case and I did. It's something that I've never experienced before but is so god damn annoying. ALSO..... occasionally mixed into this equation is my wife and I separately can hear each other sketch in and out of call by a evil robotic sound. Kind of like a predator alien. Lasts like 1-3 secs. I absolutely love the phone and will stick with it but again, never had these problems on my other notes which i loved as well. Waterproofing is a extremely likely culprit that i didnt think off. Tmobile voice quality has ALWAYS been terrible for me. Doesn't matter what phone it is.

Where was that option? I don't remember seeing it. I always found call volume to be too low and was looking for that extra volume that existed in my Note5.
Interestingly I'm using my loaner s7 edge where volume and clarity is far better, like my note5.
