In past rounds, after clearing the Dalvik cache in TWRP Recovery, there would usually be a marathon session where the apps are rebuilt. Has this somehow been bypassed with the new marshmallow ROM?
Mine just spent several minutes "Optimizing" apps after a cache wipe, as usual.
Verizon stock MM, unlocked, SuperSU, Xposed, etc.
(P.S. Thanks for reminding me; it had been a few weeks since I "flushed" my phone properly.)
Curious. I'm on ComputerFreek's stock-based ROM. No such rebuild for me.
Are you wiping both "Cache" and the obsoletely labeled "Dalvik Cache"? Generally both are wiped, although I'm not completely aware of the difference nor any reason to wipe only one.

In TWRP now it says Davik/Art Cache, not just Dalvik. It wipes both, no matter which one you are using. (Some people could be on older OS that does use Dalvik.)
And yes, still takes very long time to "optimize" all apps.

CF says his ROM is odexed while most custom ROMs are de-odexed. Maybe that's why.
computerfreek274 said:
Deodexing the rom to add system commits not i big deal. Keeping the rom odex is more stable and faster. Maybe in my final builds of the rom i can add non Verizon, deodex builds. I will look into it next month.

For those who don't know the difference:
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...e-difference-between-odexed-and-deodexed-roms
What is the difference between odexed and deodexed ROMs?
A standard ROM is supposed to be odexed for release which provides smoother and faster loading of apps into memory. Each .apk has a corresponding .odex. When the application is used by either the system or the user, the .odex is used to start loading the app. A ROM that is deodexed has only the .apk file.
A standard ROM is supposed to be odexed for release which provides smoother and faster loading of apps into memory. Each .apk has a corresponding .odex. When the application is used by either the system or the user, the .odex is used to start loading the app. A ROM that is deodexed has only the .apk file. When the application is called into memory from only pulling the data from it’s .apk, this takes longer due to not being optimized for easier retrieval from the system.

But when we use custom ROMs, it does get optimized, after a cache clearing reboot.
Common questions that I get asked way too often are:
Why do custom ROM’s deodexed? Should I use a odexed or a deodexed ROM?
To answer these questions it comes down to one word, themability. If you talk to anyone that themes ROM’s they will tell you that it’s extremely easier to theme a deodexed ROM. Since we started using deodexed ROM’s, themers could now create themes to apply to a ROM rather than the tedious option to theme the ROM itself (release a custom ROM for a theme). If you use a odexed ROM and try to apply themes, it will not work or only theme some visual aspects, which will give you a terrible user interface to experience.
Deodex Cons
I bet you are now wondering why… why is there even an option to download a custom ROM that is odexed? The answer to that is speed. Remember how I said that odexed files are optimized for easier retrieval? Simply put… it’s optimized (like indexing a data table) so the system can open the .apk faster.
Deodex and zipalign
Everyone wanted the best of both worlds so quickly after the deodexed trend started to peak, these savvy ROM developers came up with a solution to zipalign at boot. This optimizes each .apk on every reboot which then allows the system to access applications more efficiently and most importantly, faster. Of course, the disadvantage is slightly slower boot times.
Summary
If you have a choice to download the custom ROM odexed or deodexed, I would just go with the deodex ROM. You never know when you would want to try out a theme or do some modifications yourself and it’s nice to have easy options rather than flashing a whole new ROM. With newer devices you may not even see a noticeable difference to zipalign on boot. If your device is pretty slow and outdated, well then I would suggest to think about this a little harder. I would bet some of you would prefer to get a nice minimal optimized (odexed) ROM for better performance and speed over customizing the user interface.

I was helping a new O2x user, and wrote a big story about Android, and all about that.
I thought it would be good to share it with everyone, so also the new users will have a simple guide what everything means.
If you miss something, just reply or PM me :good:
There is Android. Android has a variety of different skins on it (TouchWiz for Samsung, Sense for HTC etc.)
The Android without skin is on the Nexus devices, made by Google itself (in combination with LG, Samsung, HTC..)
This android without skin is build for a lot of devices, under the name of Cyanogenmod (CM)
It's not simply ported to those devices, but also a bunch of customize options have been added.
Well, Android comes in different versions too. It has the name of a dessert, ascending from A to Z.
Android became the most popular when version 2.3 came out, under the name Gingerbread (GB)
After that, there came Ice cream sandwich (4.0) (ICS) and Jelly bean (4.1 and 4.2) (JB)
The CM names of the roms is just ascending numbers:
2.3 - CM7
4.0 - CM9
4.1 - CM10
4.2 - CM10.1 (this because both 4.1 and 4.2 are named jelly bean)
4.3 - CM10.2
About Roms. A rom is some sort of pack containing Android software, with a built-in skin with it (MIUI, CM, PA..)
These roms are in .zip format and can be flashed with CWM (clockworkmod recovery)
To install CWM, you need to have your device rooted, for almost every device there is a manual how to root and install CWM.
There are off course some risks regarding rooting and flashing roms.
First, your warranty is void (as long as it is rooted) so if you revert back to stock rom, you'll have your warranty back.
Second, Custom roms may not be always stable. some are only in alpa, pre-alpha or hackfest status, which means they're not always good as daily driver.
The reason you should start flashing roms:
First, it can blow a new life into your device. if you are bored by the standard LG, Samsung, HTC etc. skin, just flash a rom!
Second, it may really speed up your device. skins like touchwiz slow down devices pretty much.
Third, It is very fun, i enjoy flashing a new rom on my phone every once in a while.
Well, I'll just give a little manual to flash roms, with explenations where necessary:
You're about to flash a rom. Make sure your device is rooted, and has CWM (or other recovery) installed.
Make a backup of your apps/data with Titanium backup (I can really recommend Go backup, same functions, much easier)
reboot into recovery, and just to be sure, make a cwm backup. this will make a snapshot of entire rom, with data, settings etc. included!
now, Full wipe/factory reset your device using the option in cwm. this will avoid bootloops or other problems.
sometimes it may also be usefull to format /system partition.
now you'll just install zip from sdcard. select the right rom, and flash it!
Not only will roms be flashed, often there is a kernel with it.
Here some explanations of some terms:
A baseband - The baseband is the firmware for your hardware
A RIL - The RIL is the driver for the ROM to communicate with the baseband.
A Kernel - The kernel is basically the piece of software that communicates between all hardware and all software/applications on device.
Bootloader - The bootloader is the LG logo you get to see, just after booting device. On old bootloader/partition layout it will be a white LG logo,
on new bootloader/partition layout it will be a pink LG logo.
Make sure to have the right bootloader for the rom you want to install. You can switch bootloader with the awesome AIO-toolkit.
The best rom(?)
There is no such thing as the best rom. for every user it is different. some want just the most stable rom, while other just want the newest of the newest functions.
If you want me something to add, or something is wrong explained, please let me know.
I found a very very nice infographic, explaining all kinds of stuff about the android OS/Device, have a look!

READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING
This is an enormously STRIPPED DOWN ROM. Many features YOU need may NOT be available in the base package. If there is any loss of functionality, you'll need to flash an ADDON
Before you download, ensure your contacts are saved onto your SD card or memory card. Contact/Calender sync is not included natively, you must flash the 'Sync addon.'
This is a CM7 BASED ROM. So anything that doesn't work on CM7 like Webtop will NOT work on this ROM also. Please do not request non-CM7 features.

INSTALLATION
Install zip through CWM or TWRP
For clean wipe :
Wipe data, system, cache, dalvik cache then install zip
For easy wipe (upgrade from 2.9 or 3.00b1) :
Go into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache then install zip
After booting to Neutrino, reboot your device to fix the soft key issue
Wiping data may not be necessary with every update, but it's best to flash clean. However, if you regularly flash the updates, you'll most likely need to wipe data at some stage anyway.

Personality I use neither. Keeping them would make no difference in speed, so maybe he should include them, but then again, you flash it once and don't worry about it.
So far so good. I have been using this updated ROM for a few days now. Battery life is good. Woifi needs to be switched off and back on again to get it to reconnect to my home WiFi after a long sleep. CMSettings still crashes occasionally.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS
Most importantly your phone
init.d support
Android 4.1+
what's in init.d scripts?
4.1 cpufreq_governor
21cpufreq_governor script sets the governor that contorls the CPU's thresholds and sampling_rates
4.2 cpufreq_screenstate_scaling
31cpufreq_screenstate_scaling script defines the governor values and decides the actions based on the phone's state - conservative, ondeman, lazy, awake, sleep modes. I've changed lots of values from Calk's original script to save more battery power thru this script. As indicated in Calk's original thread for FD02, this script would not run if you have already installed some CPU control apps something like OC Widget, Quick Clock, SETCPU, and Android OC.
4.3 tweaks_kobridge
41tweaks_kobridge script has almost everything in it to improve the network speed, sdcard tweaks, other battery saving tweaks, VM management, Kernel, wifi tweaks, etc. For some of the values in here, there are some overlaps with build.prop tweaks. So, if you do not apply the tweaks to the build.prop file, many tweaks would still work.
4.4 zipalign
zipalign is an archive alignment tool introduced first time with 1.6 Android SDK (software development kit). It optimizes the way an Android application package (APK) is packaged. Doing so enables the Android operating system to interact with the application more efficiently, and hence has the potential to make the application and overall the whole system much faster. Execution time is minimized for zipaligned applications, resulting is lesser amount of RAM consumption when running the APK.
If less number of applications with an unaligned home application, you’d see slower application launch times. This is the best case scenario. For a worst case scenario, having a number of unaligned applications will result in the system repeatedly starting and killing processes, struggling with lags and huge battery drain.
4.5 Wifi Sleep Wait timer
What this tweak does is, it controls the time until wifi sleeps after the screen turned off. By default, it's 15 minutes. So, even you turned off the screen, by default, phone will wait for 15 minutes and then turn off the wifi. By using this tweak, you will have the control over wifi idle time until wifi sleeps.

The sdcard isn't wiped with a factory reset through TWRP. So it is no different than other phones. Make a nandroid, titanium backup, or whatever you want to use. Factory reset through TWRP. Flash ROM + other stuff if necessary (Gapps, kernel, root, xposed....etc). Everything on your sdcard will still be there. Note that you can wipe out everything on your phone through TWRP, but a factory reset knows to save it (I believe TWRP even has something along the lines of not including internal storage).
The beauty of custom ROMs is that there is no best ROM. Everyone has different preferences, and as such there are different ROMs that are built with different ideas in mind. Some may lean toward ROMs that have every feature they can cram into the ROM. While others may want ROMs that are much closer to stock with just a couple extra features. It really all depends. My advice is to figure out what features interest you, figure out a few ROMs that cover most of those. Perhaps glance through the last few pages of those ROMs to see if there are any confirmed problems that may be dealbreakers for you. Then flash it. Play with it a day or two, then flash different ROM if it interests you.

Hello there friends! This is my first ever proper rom. I hope u guys will enjoy it!
What is OxygenDust?
OxygenDust is a Operating System that simulates the feel of oxygenOS. But cleaner, and debloated. It uses LineageOS as a base for the system for fast and smooth performance.
The project originally was called PikaOS, And for the Samsung galaxy a3 2017. But this got cancelled as it was made in the schoolvacation and it was hard to make a rom full with feutures. Its easier to just port them over.
Features
Oneplus style launcer
oneplus apps
Rounded UI
OxygenOS sounds (partially broken right now)
serveral pixel stuff built in
Pre-rooted
Oneplus wallpapers (more is coming)
No google apps (only files, alternative to the stock files app [still in the rom])
How do i install OxygenDust?
PLEASE. BACK UP UR IMEI!! THERE IS A CHANCE THE IMEI WILL DISSAPEAR. SERVERAL PEOPLE LOST THEIR IMEI BY BEING STUPID. DONT POINT UR FINGER AT ME FOR UR STUPIDITY.
The file is in a TWRP backup format. Im still figuring out how to make a zip installer.
Make sure you have these things ready or installed:
TWRP 3.7.0 or higher.
Atleast 4gb of internal storage memory free. Highly recommended to format internal storage.
Formatted these partitions: System, data, cache, dalvik
The backup ofc
INSTALLING THE ROM:
Extract the zip file
make sure u have the TWRP folder ready.
format internal storage
Remove the current TWRP folder (secure any other backups)
Place the TWRP folder in internal storage.
Reboot recovery
Go to restore
Select the oxygenOS backup.
restore.
reboot
enjoy!

Troubleshooting
I get the stock android bootup logo, what do i do?
This is normal. since it comes with magisk preloaded and some bugs on lineage some things break.
The animations are laggy.
theyre not laggy, theyre on 1.5x. go to developer options too turn them up or down.
My imei is gone.
U shoudve read the thread properly.
No partitions are selected for restore error.
Make sure u have copied the WHOLE TWRP FOLDER. not just the backup, THE WHOLE FOLDER.
My sdcard wont work properly.
This is a bug in lineageOS.
this looks like it has potential to be a decent rom

Well let's hope it has a proper install method from a zip file. Also, you need to take some responsibility by explaining in clear, precise instructions how to backup the IMEI if there is a danger your ROM may lose it.
Does anyone have the rom so we can for now test the rom
