Updates are designed to fix past issues, at least in theory. Sometimes however, things do go wrong. Such was the case with the Android KitKat 4.4.3 update on the Nexus line, and history seems to be repeating itself now with the Android KitKat 4.4.4 update too. This time however, the affected phone seems to be the Motorola Moto X. Apparently, multiple Moto X users have posted complains on the Moto X boards about poor battery life following the KitKat 4.4.4 update. The firmware seems to have done more wrong than right this time around, seriously affecting the phone’s battery life.
The problems come from various sources, such as data cache problems with applications that cause additional drain, poor network signal which also affects battery life due to constant signal searching and even problems with overheating. In addition, the WiFi signal receiving seems to be affected, as well as the carrier frequencies, which all add up to considerably hit the phone’s power reserves. There are of course temporary workarounds to keep a lid on things for now, but if you’ve already upgraded to KitKat 4.4.4, you’ll likely be facing some issues that can’t really be solved until Motorola launches a new firmware version. Using Airplane Mode can help with network signal search drains, while setting your WiFi to stop connecting to weak signal networks may also be of some use.
If you haven’t updated your Moto X to the latest version of Android KitKat 4.4.4, we recommend you hold off for now. Android L is just around the corner, and it should bring some great battery management features to the Moto X, as it has a built-in battery management tool, as well as Project Volta. So far, problems have yet to appear with the Motorola Droid Maxx and Droid Ultra, which have received the same update. The Motorola Moto G and Moto E have also received Android KitKat 4.4.4, but it’s unclear if battery issues affect those models too at this time.

hmmmm.....
I don't have problems since the update. The battery seems better than 4.4.2.

IMO, battery life has never been as good on the Moto X as it was in 4.4
more of a baseband problem rather than the firmware problem?
Can you post the screen shots of the android 4.4.4 update. Also please upload the ota update zip file. Thanks in advance
Already in another thread.

No trouble for me too.
I'm using the update 4.4.4 for a week (I receive it before everyone, don't know why - my OTA file has been shared), and my battery life is BETTER than before !
Everything works fine. As every other french people reveived the update
With any new update comes growing pains. It takes a day or two and sometimes even a week before an OTA settles fully. Don't jump the gun just because your experience is bad and it's only been a few hours.

I haven't received it yet. I'm also wondering what the percentage of people complaining about the update are rooted vs stock...

Nope! I don't remember it taking this long for the soak last time.
Last time the invites went out 1-2 days before the rollout.
I have had 3 random reboots on 4.4.4 since yesterday.
My X reboot just in the first hour after the 4.4.4 update

Are you using ART? I've been good on dalvik. But had minor issues on ART.

Sensationalism. Android L isn't right around the corner. It's months away, and it's such a large update that Motorola needs to do extensive testing with their apps and integrated system functions to maintain proper functionality.
No issues with battery life for me either. Remove apps from your phone if you start having idle drain issues, especially those with push notifications, as those are handled by Android OS.
i've had zero reboots but i have had worse battery wife while the device is in use, but much improved battery life while the device is "sleeping". however i have had consistent wifi issues. not sure if its my router or the device specifically, but if i turn off/on wifi, it seems to resolve itself.
I'm having them
I'm having the battery life issue, and its annoying :crying:
before, it used to stay literally a full day, and now it will start beeping by sunset.
I'm seriously thinking about downgrading it back to 4.4.2.
what do you think guys?!! should I?!!!!
Hi y'all, I've just bought an used Galaxy S5 from AT&T (unlocked by IMEI) and while the phone is on pristine condition (like, OMG it looks brand new) I'm having problems with it. You see, this is my second S5, the first one was from Verizon and it had 4.4.4. but this new one has 4.4.2. and I've noticed a bit of worse performance and some small differences here and there but so far the worse thing on it has been the inability to found updates (and f***** phone let me only look for updates every 24h) and I want a little bit of help with that since I don't know if the fact of being in Mexico makes the updating impossible or if at&t's s5 update in on hold or if I need PC software to update the phone. I don't know how to root the phone but I could/would do it if the benefits are worth it.
The other problem is kinda weird but it happens often: the phone restarts itself while on my pocket. I think it might be a problem with the place where the battery is, being kinda loose or something and my question is, is it safe to use black tape to hold the battery on its position?
Thanks in advance, hope someone is able to help me out a little.
Also, I've heard that the current official android 5.0 for the Galaxy s5 is a bit of a mess, is that true?
I'm no noob to this, but wouldn't consider myself a Dev at all.
Of course I'm not suggesting actually flashing Verizon's stock lollipop on my unlocked T-Mobile S5 G900T
But, i was absolutely shocked, stunned when i was able to play with both my coworkers' Verizon G900V's on 5.0. Checked out the battery life especially
I've had T mobile's S5 for 8 or so months. As soon as i got it,as i do with every new Galaxy phone i get, i get the extended battery, this phone got the Gorilla 5800mAh.. 2x a stock battery
Long story short, Tmobile's lollipop came out,i flashed the Stock Tmobile 5.0 and the battery went from lasting 2-3 days to lasting from 7am to 4pm (9 hours with the same type of use) so 9 hours(5.0) vs 2-3 days(4.4) on my g900t
Flashed multiple times just in case, always awful battery. 3/4 of a day lasted with a battery thats twice as big? So im back on 4.4 and happy.
But seeing my friends Verizon's lollipop, them being happy with the battery life, and the build, it makes me wonder if there is something i can flash to my G900T that uses some part or most parts of Verizons build of 5.0 on my Tmobile G900T?
Some sort of cross firmware or something. Like i said, i'm no dev, but that would be nice.
I want 5.0 but the battery life for the G900T is unacceptable with lollipop, at the same time, i like to stay as close to stock as possible these days , i use it for work now.
I wonder if the two months difference in release could have made that much difference? Any rom suggestions?
02/08/15 5.0 for T mobile Released
04/08/15 5.0 for Verizon Released
Have you tried a different kernal?
Hey guys. I'm using a week old Moto X XT1092 running Android 5.0, and so far, not too pleased with its battery. I've noticed that Android OS seems to be the cause of all the battery drain, concerningly so. Is it because of WiFi and LTE on?
On an unrelated note, so far been happy with the phone. The camera's "good enough", especially for posting to social media, and I'm convinced that whatever drawbacks it has it'll probably be fixed with software updates as it uses the same IMX135 sensor as the GS4 I used before (which took great photos).
So I see lots of people regretting the upgrade to 6.0.1 MM and saying they're not able to go back to 5.1.1.... So what's the consensus? Stick with 511 or upgrade to 601mm
Always has people complaint sths when upgrading OS , even with iOS. You know, we can't have a 100% bug free OS, i'm using 6.0 and have no issue
I just bought this phone (N910T) refurb, haven't used a Samsung since the S4 and was out of the loop with rooting and flashing it. I just went ahead and flashed it from 5.1.1 to TWRP & Cyanogen, then 6.0.1 (EPG2), then back to DOK2, then back EPG2. So far no problem.
The only issue I ran into was the GPS was crap and the data signal wasn't working half of the time. Opened up the phone and found the data antenna not connected fully, and bending up the GPS gold contact a bit, now both are working good.
I'm actually using this over my previous Nexus 6P. I was very biased against Samsung, especially for the build quality and Touchwiz. But using this with Knox removed, and all the features built in, I just realize no other phones offer the same features right now. I haven't used a phone that stay connected to T-Mo WiFi so well, maybe because it's a T-Mo branded device. Both my Moto X Pure and Nexus 6P gets cut out from it constantly. I can imagine getting the Note 7 next since it probably will drop in price due to the debacle.

What kind of features does it have that your 6P didn't, aside from the T-Mobile WiFi calling connection being better? The only feature that stands out to me is the S-pen, but that caters to a stylus user.
I've been contemplating going to the 6P since my Note 4 was crippled by the MM update. I have a friend that went to the 6P and doesn't miss his Note 4.

Probably a good idea to wait till the new Google Pixel is released for the 6P price to go down further.
It's really depended features you're looking for.
On the Nexus 6P side, it's is going to feel a lot snappier. The build quality is somewhat better. The dual speakers are going to sound better. The screen is slightly better too, unfortunately it's too blue. I like the Note ability to adjust the screen temp a bit without custom rom/kernel. The camera is clearly better and more detailed, however the Note 4 does better marco shot. Of course, the finger print scanner is much better. And overall signal quality, especially GPS is superior. It is less wide and will be more comfortable to use. The biggest plus of a Nexus is (reliable) monthly security updates. And of course, much much harder to brick and easier to fiddle with.
On the other side, I think Samsung multitasking is much better than stock Android, which does have dual screen on Android 7. I like the pop up window feature a lot. IR Blaster and MicroSD are a big pro. "Game mode" is important for me because some games lose a lot of frame rates with these 1440p screens. On the Nexus, I could change resolution to the entire system only, which mean texts will be less sharp, and it causes the App drawer button in some launchers to be off center. Use the wrong resolution and the phone can't boot -> factory reset. Also I like the pedometer and heart rate monitor. Mainly I like the fact that these features are well integrated into the OS and don't have to install third party apps to get them, which usually doesn't work as well.
My biggest dislike out of a phone is poor GPS and data performance, because I drive a lot. Unfortunately, the Note 4 have a bit off that, but not bad enough to be a deal breaker. Again T-mo WiFi Calling is one of main decider for me. Nexus 6P does have Project Fi and ability to work with all US carriers in one device, which is a big plus.

I honestly felt 6.0.1 ruined my gaming experience and overall was not as "quick" as 5.1.1.
With Samsung's Game Tuner and its related apps, and those apps and settings not being fully supported on the Note 4, that just hurt performance way to much. Source on that info is in the Game Tuner app. Now I should note, the apps do still function but, 5.1.1 without all of that game tuner stuff was much better for me in any game.
It isn't so much about that we can't have a 100% bug free OS, what it came down to was 6.0.1 is not as smooth as 5.1.1 on the Note 4, flat out. Overall tasks were laggy and 6.0.1 did not feel as polished as 5.1.1, noticeably IMO.
I have a 910T and can upgrade/downgrade from 6.0.1 and 5.1.1 as I please, so it is possible depending on your model.
I chose to stick with 5.1.1 for the above reasons.
My device is a original released (2 year old) T910 model.
So you've been able to downgrade 6.0.1 back to 5.1.1? That's great. That gives me an opportunity to test it out without fear of getting stuck.
After using the phone for a few weeks now, I decided the best thing is to downgrade to DOK2 (5.1.1), and use Debloater to turn off Knox and OTA update (com.wssynccmldm), also CleanMaster. Normally, on a stock Android device I would prefer the newest version, but for this device, there are too many bugs and some performance issues with 6.0.1.
