I'm currently on 360 as this was the lowest recommended in the guide posted by underlines. If anyone remembers the Sony Xperia Z Ultra which had a 6.4inch screen (Huge phone at the time), it had a stock DPI of 320 and apps looked really good on that big screen.
I'd like to try 320 on the Mix. Any ideas on what apps in MIUi wouldnt work at 320DPI? Also considering this has a 17:9 aspect ratio, what would be the best value which would match the Z Ultra's [email protected] 16:9?
If per app DPI works with xposed, we may even be able to get the miui apps to work.
Has anyone already tried this? If so, please share your experience.
EDIT:Switched to 320 and I can confirm that everything looks good! No broken icons, no scaling issues and no app incompatibilities noticed so far!
I am on EU ROM with Nova Launcher and Pixel Icons. Haven't noticed anything wrong so far! 320 is what this display was made for!

This is likely because of the custom resolution of the screen and also the 17:9 aspect ratio. Hope someone has found a workaround.

I think its about finding the correct value which is appropriate for the aspect ratio. 320 would work fine on a 1920x1080 resolution which has a 16:9 aspect ratio. We need to find a suitable value which works well with 2048x1080.
If we get that right, the icons wouldn't look bad. Incompatibility with a few apps can be resolved using per app DPI in Xposed.

I'd wish to try 320 too. Is there any other method for controlling per-app-dpi? I don't have exposed. More apps not compatible with DPI 360 are: Snapchat (some elements too big), Whatsapp (cropping picture and probably cropping in other apps too).

You can install Xposed from the links provided in the Guide posted by underlines. Its relatively easy and there are no risks involved as you only need to flash the Xposed zip file and install the apk.
Per App DPI can be found under an Xposed module called App-settings.
I haven't tried 320 either because 320 doesn't seem to be the correct value for the custom resolution of the Mix.
On the guide by Underlines, he had mentioned that the best DPI was 360.66. I didn't quite understand how he came up with this value. If I knew how it was calculated, I could have tried going below 360 and set incompatible apps to 360 using per-app DPI.
320 looks great on a 6.4inch display, especially for browsing and reading as this was the stock DPI on the Xperia Z Ultra.
Dont know why, but App-settings to force dpi on app didnt work on my phone, but other modules work great.
Just changed my icon in theme manager so now they looks a little less broken.

I always have ROM Toolbox installed. It has a built in build prop editor. You can scroll down a list to the value you wish to change and edit it. In my opinion, its much safer than using a text editor to change values.

Thanks! Using 320 and it looks great actually, using a custom icon pack(darkmatter) and only some stock MIUI icons/slidebuttons look odd, all apps are working great too with the new DPI, had to turn off some xMiui xposed tweaks like the clock in the notification bar while swiped down because that looked odd as well.
No idea why this isn't the standard DPI to be honest, you utilise the big screen size so much more. Any idea's how to resize the navbar? It looks kinda out of proportion with the rest now

Are there any issues that you've noticed with the UI like the ones mentioned above? Broken icons? Status bar issues? App incompatibility?
EDIT: I've switched to 330. Everything looks good to me. No broken icons, haven't noticed any issues with app scaling either. Anything in particular that you have noticed?
no broken icons? how?
Tried 330 myself. And on 320, 330 and 340. Im getting the same icon broken

Using a3 launcher together with dark matter in 320 DPI, works great

I am on EU ROM with Nova Launcher installed. I haven't noticed any broken icons at 330. I haven't noticed any abnormalities with the UI elements either. All good for me!
What ROM are you on?
EDIT: Rocking 320 now without any issues with UI elements. Guess the EU ROM has support for multi-dpi built in. If you're on a Vendor customized ROM and would like to switch to EU, you can find my guide here.
If you're on China Stable or Dev rom you can follow the guide by underlines.

If that's the case, its most likely your icon pack. I tested both MIUI default launcher and Nova launcher with Pixel icons and I can confirm that everything looks good at 320DPI. I haven't experienced any broken icons or scaling issues so far. Will update if I notice anything. I tested most MIUI apps at 320 and everything works as it should. Haven't noticed anything abnormal.

Any ideas? Looking around dont see much on it.
What do you mean, an issue with it ? Your question is pretty vague and we can't do too much to help you without more details.
Stock CM9 install sets your DPI at 160. You can change this at any time by modifying your build.prop and changing the setting for lcd.density to something else - 120 is another common one to use. It's all a matter of personal taste. I have come to like the 160 - it isn't TOO big, but it's big enough, and things work quite well.

Changing the LCD Density requires a reboot. Please share the app that does this, as I have yet to find one.
One solution is to keep the LCD at 160, but using GO Launcher HD. You can set the icons to be smaller, and it overall looks much nicer then 120, which I find is wayyy to small.
There's a patch that you can flash available in the Alpha2 thread on Rootzwiki. As for an app, I haven't found one that just changes your lcd.density of your build.prop, but it is doable relatively easily.
I use an App from Google Play called 'DPI Changer'.
I know there are some ICS (Phone) Roms that have PAD (Per App Density) feature and you can configure how you want it, but it's something built in to the Rom. Changing the dpi now does require a reboot.

LCD Density Modder is the best app for changing the DPI of your Touchpad.
My current DPI is set to 155 its the best density I've used yet
I liked native 132 quite a lot but anything else than 160 or 120 breaks Market unfortunately.
And I'm too lazy to patch it so I'm on 160.
Things are quite big but it's okay...

Another option for those who stay at 160 dpi is the change the font size to small in the display settings. It makes the display much better. I prefer to run at 120 with the font set to huge which is another option that works pretty well.

PS: I'm new to HTC, long time member of the Galaxy series.

except one thing that the default dpi of One is 480, you can change to about 250 (quite small) to 360 (i'm using it, amazing). remember to change the dpi of the launcher to 480 before change the dpi number in build.prop or you could use another launcher like Nova, it works fine with small dpi
Thanks mate will do.
I'm using next launcher 3D currently.
i think it'll work fine, if not, try nova

Welcome, I know this rom from Nexus 4 forum and it seems ace. i read from the changelog that hybrid settings is not in order and that you use xposed instead. I have never used xposed as im always on PA rom. Is it working in the same way as hybrid settings does in PA? Can the same things be done with it?

Great ROM, but fonts look bad
Just installed this morning, and the ROM is running great. I love the customizations and style. Runs smoothly, and battery life seems pretty good so far. Unfortunately, there's one aesthetic problem that is potentially a deal-breaker: the fonts look terrible. I think they were designed for higher-DPI devices. I changed the system font to Liberation Sans with iFont, which helped a lot, but there seems to be a secondary system font defined by the ROM that I can't figure out how to change. It's too big on this screen, and text frequently gets cut off or overlaps (see the app titles in the attached screenshot, especially for NBA summer league). If anyone has suggestions for how to change that font, I'd appreciate it.

Fantastic ROM
Just installed this morning.
Trying to move away from Samsung's bloated, hesitant offerings. This ROM looks like it will do perfectly as a daily driver even though it's only in beta.
JellyBeer is similarly fast and smooth but does have some problems with it's interface and themeing just doesn't work at all.
Cheers
Browser video playback
Just discovered that Chrome won't play flash videos in this ROM.
Java is enabled and I have the latest "flash player for jelly bean" the installed.
Anyone who know what's wrong? I have it working in other CM10 based rooms such as Jellybeer without needing any special mods, and settings or addition files. Is it perhaps related to the Slim gapps package?
Cheers

Chrome never has played flash videos. It doesnt support it. You need to download another browser like boat browser, maxthon browser, or dolphin browser in order to play flash videos. Chrome supports html5 videos.

Back with in S8+ days there were 3 apks floating around that allowed you to change the height of the navigation bar in order to increase screen real estate. I quite liked it as did a lot of other people I assume because you can find links to plenty of websites talking about it. However I can't find any talk about it for this phone.
Does anyone know of anything like this for the Note 8?
Still on the s8+ but considering getting a note 8 soon. Just out of curiosity, have you tried installing the same apk?
You can change the Minimum DPI setting in DEV settings to make it look higher res. I have mine set to 475 and it has a lot more space. You can then change the font size to be one mark below normal and it really helps.

Yep I had changed that. on both the S8+ and Note 8. That's good, but the nav bar still bugs me on this phone. Everytime I look at it, I notice it's too big lol
Hmm. I wonder if the guy who created the old apk uses an S8 and hasn't bothered to make one for the note 8. I'd imagine it is quite simple. Wonder if you could make the request?
Edit: I made a request to tigerhoods, who I believe authored the apk for the s8.
Here is the response I got:
it works when packed in a sammy theme if that makes sense..
u have to decompile a Samsung theme then add the nav values to the common.apk then recompile theme for it to take effect now

Looking further into how to do this, but I haven't yet been able to get my hands on the apk for the theme I've been using. But, from what I gather, you can't just install an apk to change the Navbar height with the note 8. You have to specifically edit the apk for whatever theme you're using.

If you mean something like that..... here are some overlay mods they are working without root. The 1 i have linked is to minimize the height a bit more then half.

Just installed the T-MOgenta theme and applied it, but I'm not seeing the results as shown above. I wasn't using a theme before, but applied the default one again to be sure. The wallpaper changes, as does some other areas, but to an orange hue instead of magenta.
I did change my DPI to 500 using the ADB shell command. Could that affect it?
-Edit-
The DPI is what caused it. I reverted to a standard size, and the theme applied as shown in the previews above.
@fryingpan0613 Any chance of getting the theme to support varying DPIs? If possible with the restrictions LG puts in place, that is.
Ooh my gosh! I'm totally going looking for that Barcode one!

Awesome I'm glad you liked it! That's one that most don't like because it's "boring", but sometimes simple is nice. As far as the icons, I don't touch any icons because I personally hate when not all apps carry the same theme, and I can only touch LG icons so I just leave them stock on all themes.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. I'd rather the icons just be left alone if they can't all be themed. I don't mind stock colored apps, it's when only a few change that it drives me batty.

Just got the aquifier theme and I absolutely love it. It makes much better use of the oled display than the white default theme does and I love the color blue. (I've always been a sucker for the way that android ics and jellybean looked).
I have the Verizon v30 vs996 and the theme works fine. I had to get the theme from the play store and go into homescreen settings and theme to apply it.
Thank you!

Awesome, glad you enjoy it!
I'm getting close to finishing this theme for the normal resolution, then I'll probably go and do the other resolutions for those that change dpi before I release it. This one has taken awhile because I have to change basically everything for this theme to work.
I actually started this on the v20 but I didn't get it to my satisfaction before turning it in for the v30 so it never got released.

I dont know what it is about it, but I love it! And I dont even like purple lol, mabye I need to do this theme with black instead too.
I made a few really different themes on the v20, but they weren't popular. Like I made one that was desert digital camo themed, I loved it but it was a massive flop. I made a really awesome red white and blue theme too.
You can see what I did for the V20 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/themes/fryingpan0613-theme-discussion-t3568603

I like that it's darker than white, but not blacked out. I know there's a "white UI must die" obsession with AMOLED devices, but then all devices just look the same.
If I have any fellow Marines in here, happy birthday!
Finally the Purple Nights theme is complete and published, including support for other DPI and screen resolutions in settings (settings > display > screen resolution). This theme has taken awhile to complete, I have been working on it since I got my V30, and I spent a few weeks on it for the v20 (it was never released) before that. The lower resolutions have to be manually resized and repatched, so it will take a while before I can get all my previous themes up to date with the resolution fixes since I basically have to recreate the theme 2 more times at lower sizes.
