Well i was fiddling with a case, and accidentally spilt super glue on my speaker inside, it pulled of the metal thing. Sound still works but i wonder if its still waterproof? or is it the back cover that's waterproof I wont bother fixing it if it's still waterproof how would i fix the speaker part would it be easy to do thanks. :crying:
This part here metal bit came off....

I think without the metal part it's not waterproof
Nope, I don't think so, because the speaker is the only hole in the case and if you break the cover...
I wouldn't test its water proofness

The only area that is fully waterproof is the area inside the gasket. The speaker is outside the gasket and will still be waterproof, since even the metal piece has holes.

A couple days ago, i've find some little pieces of dust in the front camera. The annoying part is that they affect the photos . Is there a way to remove it? I know the front camera is inside the "gorilla" glass, but could it be taken off?
Thanks!!
Anyone?

Could you tell me more about this? I have dust specs in my FFC too now.
I also found some dust in the FFC of my I9000. I wanted to replace it but it only got sent to service and cleaned. Unfortunately dust is beginning to show again :/. It may be some defect in the construction of the phone.
It's due to the horrible placement of the headphone jack and bad quality components. Dust is getting in through the 3.5mm jack into the front camera. Solution: take a can of compressed air and spray it into the headphone jack until the dust is no longer on the lens. It could make things worse but it was beneficial in my case. I've been hoping someone would make some sort of plastic plug to cover the hole.
If you want a rubber plug check this stuff out...

I dropped my phone the first week I owned it and scratched up the battery cover. I was really annoyed by the scratches so I decided to try a replacement battery cover from eBay. I also bought replacement speaker grills just in case I messed up the old ones.
This is the cover I bought http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=201096888026&alt=web
And these are the speaker grills http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=151359726117&alt=web
UPDATE: Thanks to @xHighAlert for pointing out that new cover was missing the NFC antenna. The old antenna may be able to be removed with a heat gun and a lot of patience I went ahead and ordered a new one.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-AT-T-HT...NFC-ANTENNA-FLEX-CABLE-ORIGINAL-/161394718926
The new Gunmetal Gray cover was just a hint lighter than the OEM one but not enough to notice unless they were sitting right next to each other. It comes with new camera lenses. Taking the M8 apart wasn't all that hard and ifixit has a good tutorial here http://youtu.be/YP0glVbQfWQ .
The top speaker grill left some adhesive behind when unpeeled it up so that needed removed before applying the new one. Also after the phone was apart the old camera lens was still attached to the camera so you could probably pop the new one out of the new cover and not worry about that, but I went ahead and removed the old lens and cleaned off the adhesive left behind. On reassembly everything went together perfectly and the whole operation only took about 20 mins including putting away the tools and cleaning up.
Update: Even though I ordered an NFC antenna from eBay I got bored and figured I'd see how hard it is to remove the one from my old battery cover. With a little love from a heat gun(hair dryer would work) the antenna peeled up very easily with absolutely no damage. I then opened my phone back up, installed the antenna, and buttoned it back up with no issues at all. NFC works once again.

Good job! I did this on the m7, and it was an absolute ***** to repair! No adhesive on the back? What new adhesive did you apply? Are your speaker grilles a tad bent?

The only adhesive I had to deal with was on the speaker grills and the new grills came with the adhesive already on them. Grills are perfectly smooth and straight.
After messing with the phone for a little bit I realized that the power and volume buttons feel better than they did when the phone was brand new!

Nice, nice! But do you see any bending when you reflect light off them, because my m8,and most of the others I've seen do.. It's like it's slightly more depressed in some places than others.. Also, are they completely flush with your screen?

Amazing! I noticed that on my m7 too! Does the ir blaster still work well? And are the volume and power buttons loose and wobbly or nice and tight? Is the front camera glass a part of the grille or stuck on?

Looking a little closer the bottom grill seems like it may be depressed in one spot more than the rest of it. It looks like they are flush with the screen but I have a .33mm tempered glass screen protector on it so it would be hard to be 100% positive.
IR Blaster works perfectly. Power and volume buttons are nice and tight and they stick out just a bit more than OEM which makes it a little easier to feel them when not looking directly at the phone. When I bought my M8 the buttons were almost too flush with the body. The front camera glass is adhered to the camera with some adhesive tape but the new grill came with a new lens already loaded with the adhesive tape so I replaced it. I'm assuming you could leave the old one on if you wanted to.
I didn't really have any dents in my old cover, it was just scratched up. But I'll post some pics anyway.

Awesome replacement! Doesn't look too hard to do if I ever need to do it and the quality looks great
The black band you see in the old cover, with gold contact pads, is the NFC antenna (Surrounding the camera ring). The older HTC Sensation had a similar setup with the shell for practically all of it's antennas.
Shouldn't you transplant that? Is that even a possibility?
Try using NFC with this replacement cover. Unfortunately, I'd bet you any money you no longer have NFC capabilities.

Are there any companies out there that do this for you? I have a Harmon/Kardon edition and I'd like to have the gunmetal gray back/speaker grills instead of the gold/black combo. I'd do it myself but I feel that I'd do something wrong with it.

@neilrl79 How hard was it to detach the rear housing? Is it held in with clips. I also managed to scratch mine up and am planning on doing the same thing.

ifixit has a nice guide. You have to remove the two grills which are glued on. Then there's a number of screws you need to remove. Once you do that I think all you have to do is use a guitar pick or something similar and stick it between the black plastic border around the screen and metal housing and basically pry it open.

I wonder if it is strong enough to be chromed? Think I might ask around a bit...
So I got my new Z3C and was thinking: what if we can make flaps and audio port more waterproof?
Doing pressure sensor test I get reading around 1000 and it's increasing by about 30-40 when I press against screen with closed flaps. But it normalizes after 1-2 seconds and goes back to initial reading meaning tiny amount of air escapes. Does it mean my phone is not totally waterproof? Don't know.
Since this phone is just fresh-water proof (meaning no using in pool or sea) and I really want to use it worry-free in all kind of water that I dare to go in myself I really want to improve waterproofness.
I'm not worried about front and back since glass should be all.kind-of-things-proof. This leaves sd card and sim card covers, audio jack, mic holes and speakers.
So what I thought of was to "grease" flaps' rubber o-rings with rubber compatible oil/grease to make better contact with phone body or use some kind of silicone spread around rubber contact area before closing flaps to have semi-permanent seal and be still able to open and scrub extra stuff off without doing much damage.
For audio jack I thought to make some kind of plug - like pressy button but with a bit bigger "head" that has soft sticky rubber underneath so when pressed in it makes a seal with the edge of audio jack or even plug that is covered with silicone all the way.
Speakers and mic holes could be protected with bits of strong adhesive tape - it's easy to get sticky stuff off the glass and it'll be possible to hear some sound even with speakers covered. Not sure about mic holes because side plastic has matte finish but some strong adhesive should still stick?
So the question - has anyone tried something remotely related? Is it thinkable? Have I missed anything important? What materials (grease, silicone) should I use?
If anyone has done something similar? Probably... But no one ever posted about it on this forum. You can use the phone in the sea and swimming pool, as long as you rinse the phone afterwards. As for modifying the phone, I wouldn't do it. It might cause you to lose your warranty.
In terms of waterproofing the phone even more, I'd look at waterproof cases made for other phones with almost similar dimensions and see if you can do something about the case instead.

Plenty of stories of people going in the water, damaging their phone and fighting with sony about warranty.
It's hardly modifying, adhesive sticker on glass is easily removed and thin film of silicone should be also easily removable.

That's the option. But I haven't seen any slim waterproof case that could be comfortably used all the time.
Anyway, curiosity is strong and I'll most likely try different options.
PS. can someone test pressure sensor - is reading staying high when screen is pressed or it fades back to normal with all covers closed?
I've just used mine in pool all weekends since I bought it without any issue and even without afraid of doing that! The same with my wife's Z1!
And I'm contantly opening/closing its usb port due my xposed modules development (debugging purposes)! Maybe some unlucky day I will screw it... who knows!
Ofc we always need to be sure all ports are properly closed before going to have fun!

Sorry, I forgot about the pressure sensor part, it's normal that the numbers go back to normal after you lifted your finger, it works like that for everyone.
If my mind serves me right, I've seen Sony ads with the Z3C being thrown in a pool or something similar, so a pool really shouldn't be a problem. And yes of course people will have to fight for their cause at Sony, they won't just put any phone under warranty, else people would exploit that.

I probably expressed myself bit vaguely. Thing is that pressure reading on my phone returns back to normal WHILE HOLDING screen under pressure. Initially pressing screen creates greater pressure inside the phone, reading rises but air escapes quite quickly (1-2seconds) and pressure reading normalises. After releasing finger screen pressure sensor shows lower readings for a second until extra air seeps inside to equalise pressure again.
Hope it's clear enough.
Also, does it mean that I got less waterproof phone that it should be?
I dunno about you but i've been using my camera in the pool for a while now and even for hours at times

I've used mine under water as well. OP if you're really worried about it you can send it off to liquipel and have them make the phone even more waterproof
Hey. I've just bought g5s plus. I heard its splash resistant. I also read that it doesn't mean that is has water resistance though. I'm just wondering if I use my phone when it's raining lightly I can damage my phone. I have solid OXYGEN case and I worry about phone speaker mostly. I can buy some jack slot protector, i don't even use it. Usb is on the bottom so it won't be affected. I also heard that our metal body can corrode and that it isn't included in warranty policy.
When I had my nexus 5 i used to cover my phone from the rain by my hand to protect jack slot and phone speaker. Was quite annoying ;d. But that technique never let me down.
What do you think about that?
All part of the exterior is splash resistance, including the port and speaker. It can withstand all kind of rain and water flush without problem. You just can't submerged it or use it underwater since this condition will involve water pressure and this kind of protection needs IP certification.

Oh damn. Why the heck you swam with it. I, m sorry. It corroded that much you it wasn't usable anymore? If you tried to disassembly it and replace corroded parts it could be rescued. Unless electronics corroded too
I have accidentally dropped the phone in the toilet... I went in with its top part towards (i.e. headphones jack) and submerged about halfway. I'm wondering what I should do. The phone seems to be working fine but I'm not sure that the headphones jack is hermetic and no water went in through it. Anyone has had similar situation? What should I do?
I recently bought phone. Since there is no screen protector for note 9 in my around, i temporary plug a protector for note 8 with nano luqiud with glue and uv light. Problem is does note 9 speakers give both same amount of db and my phone's upper speaker went a little less powerful since liquid leaked into speaker. Or It is normal to upper speaker have a little bit less sound? Sorry for my grammer.
If you spilled the glue into the speaker it will probably sound lower than normal. I don't notice a difference in loudness between the top and bottom speaker.
The upper speaker pushes less db than the main firing speaker. The waterproofing fabric for the speaker is deeper inside than the Note 8. If you look in with a light, you can see a gap between the actual grill and the waterproofing fabric for the speaker. If glue got in there I'm afraid the only way you can get it out is by taking the device apart.
Also, with these type of speakers and the waterproofing material being used, once liquid touches the fabric, the sound is dampened out because there is no longer free vibration of the fabric to let the sound travel, aka sound "loud."

Use some alcohol and a tooth brush to scrub out the glue. Then, blow it out with a can of compressed air. accidentally got some glue in my S9+ doing a rush job and the speaker wasn't as loud. This rectified the problem. You may have to scrub and spray repeatedly a few times, but I managed to get mine cleaned out.

Using compressed air, make sure you don't damage the top speaker's delicate diaphragm (the extremely thin material that moves and creates the sound). If you tear or warp it, the top speaker quality will be worse, and sound distorted. It happened to my friends S9 when he had water in it from going for a swim and forcefully blew in it with his mouth to get the water out. It never recovered.

why would you want to use compressed air to push the water even more in the device/part again?
