Hey all!
Just got the phone and I'm loving it so far.
Recently I tried to transfer files over to the MI mix using a otg cable and a USB 3.0 thumbdrive. The miui did not respond to the otg plug in. However the file management app `esfile` detects the otg (pop up to ask for permission to be the default app to handle the drive), but upon opening the app, the otg drive was not shown...
Tried the otg setup on a nexus 6p and it works without problem.
Any pointers? Thanks!
Edit: I'm on the EU ROM
Thank God someone else has noticed this, i have been unable to get this feature working, however the MiMix does recognise peripherals such as USB mice but haven't been able to get it to work with any USB external storage options, would appreciate some steer from senior members.

Thanks for confirming the issue. May I know what ROM you are using? I think I jump straight to EU rom without ever testing the Chinese Stable ROM. I may flash it back just to see if it works.

Hi, I have the same problem, and I really need to copy files from my MIX to a USB drive for my clients. Any solution or workaround?
I am in the latest CH stable ROM, no unlocks or flashes. I've tried several USB drives ranging from 256MB to 32GB, all formatted with every available file system, but no result.
I would like to be able to utilize OTG as well, I'm on EPIC ROM 7.1.19 hope some one can figure it out.
I have used OTG Dtech with Mi Mix that is working fine, no problem.
I hadn't known there was an issue I was able to move data between the usb flash drive and the phone on mine.
okay, this is Xiaomi messing about and its so frustrating
I am one of the people using a non rooted phone with over the air updates
HOWEVER, I am part of the pre release group that gets roms early
Now, when I got my phone initially with Miui 6, USB otg didn't work
The pre release beta solved this, without issues, happy days
NOW THE WARNING
just upgraded to
Android 6.0.1 MXB48T
MIUI 8.7.3.9 Beta
Kernel 3.18.20-perf-g459b3d5-336479-gc53fe55
And they've killed it again
I am PRESUMING this is ( as I am fully aware, I am using Beta software ) that this is a bug
However, if this is on purpose, I am very frustrated with the reasoning ( or lack of it ) behind it
My previous pendrive was ExFat which is unsupported format for Es file explorer(as is pop up showing), once formatted it on Mix, now works on latest Epic rom 7.3.9.

Still trying to get xiaomi to agree boot unlock before I get the epic rom
Hopeful though, it sounds far better
I found if the drive isn't fat32 you will need a 3rd party app to interact with the files [I use exFat/NTFS for total commander - as it works on non-rooted devices].
Has anyone used a USB ethernet adapter with the mi mix?

Trying to do IT work on an internal network or something? Other than that or try to break into a hard wired network I wouldn't see a reason to even try to use a usb network dongle. There are MUCH better devices to do the other two things with than ANY android device.

Ha, yes I do IT work. I normally have so many cat5 cables around me it's better than wifi calling (most places don't have great wifi in their server closets) or att service for that matter
I used to use hangouts dialer to make calls over the network, never had reception issues with that method
What much better devices were you talking about? I'm curious now
For mobile IT I got a Viliv N5 a long time ago, loaded Debian on it [got everything working properly after awhile of fiddling] and now use it as my mobile trouble shooter [Kit of extra's in a bag with it].
http://www.umpcportal.com/2010/07/viliv-n5-umpc-full-review/
I have the verbatim USB SD card adapter, and a 128gb Samsung Microsd card.
I can open and read files in the Microsd card using the mix. However, when I try to transfer files using Explorer copy and paste in USB, transfer progress gets to 80-100%, then the UsB status goes to ejecting and checking for errors.
I have enabled developer options and install via USB. I have also enabled documents under installed apps.
I'm using official global stable rom and locked bootloader.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
I am assuming my USB external DAC issue falls along with this bug.
My Google Pixel works fine with any USB OTG device (DAC/USB Stick/ etc...)
But the Mix will not detect it even if I go into the developer settings and change the options like Xiaomi themselves recommend doing! This is so frustrating.
I got USB OTG to work with another adapter (Meenova). In my case my issue was adapter hardware related.........hope this information may help!
Hi there!
Well i cannot make otg wotk on my mix any way. I've just the one adapter and I do not know which type is it but I use it on my Nexus 5 no problem with a Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 32gb stick... I've tried with all apps you mentioned in this thread and some more... It is not detected on twrp either.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I did some tests here and need help with finding some USB drivers for WM6.1 to have the flash show up in the OS as well under the bootloader.
This works. Please try Yourself befor flaming.
The Diamond has USB on the Go features.
I have not yet been able to power the USB device from the Diamond as I do not have 11 pin mini usb connector with all pins attached inside.
I just took a USB flash stick from the shelf and formatted it to FAT32.
put a firmware image (shine08.nbh) on it.
renamed it to DIAMIMG.NBH.
powered up the phone with vol down and right button held in.
pressed power button when the phone had found the image on the memstick to start flashing.
nbh file is the only file needed on the memstick.
no computer needed to do the flashing.
It is all described in te confidential service manual except of the cable used(it is just mentioned as the USB Y cable).
The cable works as this:
The gnd and usb signals goes from the phone to the USB memstick connector.
The USB memstick connector gets power from an external 5 volt supply (or a PC usb port,flyppy,hdd.....)

Phone: HTC Touch Diamond
Hi there,
I'm new here and not yet owner of an xda, but it's already dispatched at the sellers'.
Thanks go to zeb crs for working this possibility out. As soon as I can, I'll begin working on the problem, and be it writing a new driver. An usb host is really the most important feature to add to my xda, because I always have a copy of my Music and Files with me on a wd passport drive. For power problems, I plan to build a 5V AA-Powersupply for charging the xda and powering the hdd.
If anyone knows of new things I should consider, please tell me!
Just a thought
Not sure if I'm really telling people stuff they already know, but it's just a bit of food for thought...
There's so many posts about this that it's impossible to answer answer the right questions in the right posts, and give everyone a nice wholesome answer, so I'm just going to use this one...
Somewhere in some post, someone mentioned that trying to power a USB while connected to the Diamond could possibly short the phone and destroy it... Well, taking to things into consideration, I don't think it's exactly an issue:
1) the Diamond is charged via the mini-USB port, so whouldn't the power just be going to the same place anyway...?
2) the Y-cable used in the 'top secret' service manual is basically doing just that - you simply use a Y-cable to get the power source to the USB drive - this would be because the diamond will not power out frmo the mini-USB
Ok, so those are my thoughts there...
My other thoughts were that many years ago, I came across an old iPAQ, which came with a special sleeve you could 'plug' it into, which included a spot for external memory - the iPAQ itself did not come with an external memory slot...
So why can't a similar thing be done for the Diamond...?
Take one of those 'extender' battery kits http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15622 and do a bit of crafting on it to include power direct from the batter to an external memory slot all included in the enlarged battery cover... that should take care of the 'carring extra cables and other rubbish' issue that people brought up...
Sure, the Diamond will be a bit thicker (but not too thick) plus you'll get some extra battery life...
Sure this doesn't help with any of the driver issues, or the fact the Dimond has to be reset with the buttons pushed at the right time to trigger 'USB host' mode, but I feel that there are enough clever people out there (much cleverer than me) who could possibly write a simple add-on program that you could initiate which would reste the diamond in the right way to trigger the hosting mode, and while it might not be possible to use the Diamond as a phone in the trigger mode, perhaps instead, it could swap a designated portion of the internal memory with the memory on the external storage device - live swap the video and music folders - that way you're just now accessing stuff you couldn't access before, and since you can't listen to 2 songs at once, it doesn't really matter that you can't access the folders that you just swapped out...
I hope that makes sense...
anyway, just some thoughts - hope it's useful to someone....
Oh, and I guess some drivers could be sourced off the Pro... (maybe)

This cable seems to be designed for the Willcom W-Zero3 [es], which features USB host capabilities. So the cable should be connectable to the Diamond, but the lack of drivers will remain as a problem.
A cable alone will not work (trust me, I've tried it just to check)...
Firstly, you need to activate the USB-Host function on the diamond (Soft reset with some other buttons pushed - can't remember what it was though)
Secondly, you need power to the USB device - the Diamond itself will not deliver power to the USB port...
This is why you need the Y cable with so both power and the usb are connedcted to the Diamond...
hey everyone i found this http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=58813 cant this help us with the usb host for the diamond
Hi all.
I made an Y cable powered with +5V and it really works in Trigger Mode.
Zeno drivers will not work for us, we need OTG drivers for our phones.
I hope someday a developer will give a try with this.
Here's some links:
Here's some code samples
http://www.jungo.com/st/win_ceusb.html
And here's a teardown that maybe useful (or not).
http://www2.electronicproducts.com/HTC_Diamond_P3700-whatsinside-73.aspx
At Platform Builder there's some guides to develop our wished drivers too....
Hi everybody,
This post just to confirm Zeb and Lilitz facts.
After reading all the posts about "Does the Diamond support USB host ?", i decided to try myself:
- connect a self powered hard drive to the Diamond with an USB cable, the one used for another hard drive which is OTG (don't know the particularities of the cable)
- soft reset + vol down + back
- bypass flash from internal storage (have a DIAMIMG.nbh on internal storage)
- the Diamond trigger USB host and wake up the hard drive
So does it ensure that the diamond has host (at least OTG) USB hardware capabilities ? For me, the answer is yes...
But, with the same hard drive, the Zeno drivers don't work.
bump
up..............
I wrote to HTC to have more informations about OTG Diamond's capabilities. Here is the answer:
Dear Sir, Unfortunately, your queries extend beyond the capabilities of our technical support centre. Officially, none of the functions you have mentioned are supported, although it may indeed be possible. USB Host mode driver for Nexus S
Also available on the Samsung Captivate and Samsung Galaxy S
(main post and more info at the SGS dev site)
Disclaimer: This kernel will enable some very early, and rough usb OTG support for your phone. Currently the phone DOES NOT give out power, so you NEED an external power source to be able to use this kernel. This is true for ALL USB devices, even with those that have their own power source, and doesn't requre external bus powering. Solving this limitation is a TODO, but we cannot guarantee anything. There are some other phones that have usb host support the same way this kernel has (eg. they need external power), like the Nexus One, and there is also a community using this, so if you're saying that usb host support has no sense if you need an external power source then you are definitely mistaken.
This kernel is built upon the official ICS kernel from google's git repository. It is possible to port this to older ROMs (like CM7, or stock Gingerbread). Ask your favourite kernel developer to do this for you.
Credits goes to:
The misterious guy at Samsung(?) called chul2 for the original s3c host drivers
Kevin Hester (kevinh, probably also nicknamed geeksville, punkgeek and humcycles) for fixing the s3c host driver for the Samsung Galaxy Tab
Ever kernel developer at teamhacksung for bringing ICS goodness to Galaxy S
This is a very early, and very rough usb host support. Expect crashes, freezes and things that are not working! You will also need external power (probably through a Y-cable or a powered usb hub, see the device connection guide below). Also make sure you are only using USB 2.0 (high-speed) devices. The driver does has some quirks with USB 1.x low-speed and full-speed devices, like mice, keyboards and similar things. Read the FAQ for more information about them. And of course it doesn't work with USB 3.0 (super-speed) devices.

Holy crap, got to check this out in the morning :-D
Thanks sztupy for porting this to the Nexus S!
I flashed your Kernel to my Nexus S (i9023). First of all it does boot, everything seems to work, did not brick my phone
The Nexus also found my hub in way, but i couldn't see any devices. But i won't say it is a problem with your kernel, i think it is more a problem with my insufficient wiring because i have not enough cables/adapters yet, but i will get some this week, so i can do more testing then!
So here is what UHC showed so far:

they weren't in the right position. I think they have to be in /system/modules/driver.ko instead of /system/lib/modules/driver.ko
I moved it, but it still wasn't working.
I briefly tested out the flashable version compiled by Epic_VS. My setup was with a micro USB OTG connector and an externally powered hub. I also tried my own hacked together USB cable, in place of the OTG connector.
In short, I was only able to get the message "Root hub found". I tried connecting a mouse (which I know is usb 1.1, but I thought I'd try anyways), a 360 controller, and a few different USB thumb drives. None of the thumb drives showed up as listed devices, and they did not show up in the mount point under /mnt.

It uses Media Transfer Protocol, something that could have better support on linux and mac.

Being a layman, I have no idea about what protocol precisely HTC One uses internally, and tbh I don't care since it works exactly like a normal USB device with both of my PCs.

Good for you. However, it's not as easy if you're not running Windows 7 or Windows 8 because it doesn't support UMS, it supports MTP, so in this case it neither walks or barks like a dog.

Next time, if somebody posts "Since this phone doesn't function in USB MAss Storage mode", you'll know it "doesn't function in USB Mass Storage mode" and you'll have no need to incorrectly correct them.

I'm sorry if I sounded ignorantly offensive - but the initial question was 'how to put a video from a PC to the phone', right? You don't need HTC sync manager installed on your PC to do that, you just locate your phone among the devices, open it and just drag and drop your videos. (I believe I can assume the topic starter has a PC with Win8 or Win7 on it)
Sometimes too much explaining ends up in people deciding against buying something, if they encounter some strange acronyms...
BenPope said:
No. It's MTP. You need a recent Windows Media Player if you're using Windows. You should be able to use HTC sync manager.

I probably should have mentioned that I am running the latest Mac OS X 10.8.3
I transferred music and pictures through the HTC Sync Manager, but I don't see how I can transfer movies trough it.

If you're rooted, you can mount your phone through USB as a mass storage device in recovery. Assuming you are not, you can try something like AirDroid.
Please please please!!!
Holy Freaking Crap!!!

PLEASE BE CORRECT!!! I just booted into TWRP and my Win7Ult box shows the drive as USB but is not accessible. I'd like to copy over about 10 to 20 Gb of media at a time. In the good ol' days, I'd have a bunch of microSD cards, and just pop one in and the other out (1 minute flat, DONE!). But even just syncing, I always had the option to set it and forget it, moving over tons of audio, video, etc. via USB sync programs, such as SyncBack, which will not work with MTP.
So, here I am, wondering if you have some method I don't know about. MTP always stalls and hangs on that much data, and I don't want to use Windows Media Player, etc. just to copy media over (I don't use "libraries").
Will this work with TWRP? Must it be CWM recovery?

From my experience with TWRP on my HoX, it has a "Mount" feature where you can mount the SD through USB and it will be a Mass Storage device. Full speed transfers Try going into recovery and see if there is a Mount option. Should be under Advanced I think. I have not rooted my HO yet as I'm sending it for warranty for a faulty NFC chip
I had the same problem, but i just installed Android File Transfer, from android.com/filetransfer And it works perfectly

The One X started life as a UMS (USB Mass Storage) device on ICS, meaning it has a separate partition, MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) was added with JB.
The One started life as MTP with JB. There is no separate partition, supporting UMS is much harder as you'd have to emulate significant parts of the FAT filesystem and UMS protocol on top of EXT4.

Use your PC's internet connection on your phone. No more pain of wasting your precious mobile data!
you need to have a PC with working internet connection and a rooted android device.
Making it happen:
1)Connect your Android to your desktop/laptop via USB cable (dont forget to turn on USB debugging )
2)Download, extract the attachment and Open android tool application file present in the extracted folder
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3)click “Connect”. this will install the latest android package and the dependencies (busybox and redsocks) and SuperUser will ask you to allow “Usb tunnel”
make sure you allow it.
now you phone has an internet connection and you can use it just by minimising the USB Tunnel app...
to stop the service, just click on disconnect on your pc (android tool app) or stop service on USB Tunnel in your phone..
play store doesn't work
actually all google apps do not work

Isn't it easier to just create a WiFi hotspot on your PC and connect wirelessly with your phone?

Not all PC's have that ability. Doubly so if your PC uses Wifi to connect to the internet since most Wifi cards can only either connect or be connected to and not both at once . Or like in my case where my PC's wifi card severely sucks and is barely usable to connect to the internet to begin with...I use my old Defy as my PC's Wifi now because my internal card is that bad (plus I can use a really long usb cord and get the phone closer to the router )
Defy runs CM10.1 -- its faster and more stable than ours with much better battery life (double cool). F Popeye's Chicken, Quarx is the shiznit....and Blechd0se and Maniac103 and Epsylon3...I'm sure there's more, but those are the main Defy devs I was exposed to.
/Defy has 3+ years of development behind it on a platform our devs would rather be working on (TI OMAP), that's why its better . I just had to clarify that so no one thinks I'm downing our devs. A few months on a new platform doesn't compete with a few years on a known platform.
//If anyone needs a cheap replacement phone, buy a Motorola Defy or Bravo. They're both built well and have a great dev supporting them, Quarx.

Cool, thanks for the info
Following the link from within the app I saw this comes from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345
The download in this thread corresponds to version 3.3; it is up to version 3.7 now. I tried v. 3.7 and it also works. To make sure i disabled WiFi and wireless data. There is a hack for Google apps, I haven't tried it.
Hey Thanks for the app mate but I couldn't make it work it only connects when I choose USB Tethering I'm on Custom 4.4 Rom Rooted / Allowed Superuser permission it only shows upload spped but not download speed and there's no browsing ...... I'm on windows 8 and have a dial able broadband connection .. Also tried sharing the connection but no luck. please help.
Hi all,
Dropped my phone and the phone stopped responding. I tried replacing the screen but this made no difference.
Since the phone was just not turning on at all (no sort of response), I tried to replace the charging port after (after the drop, the sim card tray was damaged so thought the issue might be around here).
After I replaced the charging port, I managed to get the notfication light flashing (with a power source) and now it is solid.
When I connect it to my PC, I hear the notification sound when a device has been connected but unable to view any files or see it show in my PC.
I feel like I'm close to getting the phone working but not quite there yet. I am mainly interested in just recovering the data.
Any help would be much appreciated.
In this case, you need a screen, either on the phone itself, or an external one, and a mouse to navigate the options, if you manage to get the screen to work, enable USB debugging, run adb devices, if your phone shows up as a device (reference screenshot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

), you can run adb pull /sdcard/ to copy all the files from it to your PC, but if it shows up as unauthorized (reference screenshot:
), you need to allow usb debugging on the phone, then run adb pull /sdcard/ to copy the data.
And remember for the sake of god NEVER use MTP if you're copying more than one small file at a time, as it is known to corrupt large files, or large quantities of files, if you do not want corruption use adb pull

Thank you for your reply - do you have any recommendations here? Specifically for xiaomi 9t pro? I read somewhere an MHL cable would not work
Dropped my phone and it stopped working. Replaced screen, still doesn't work. Replace charging port and notification light started blinking and turned solid though I don't see it anymore.
But the phone connects to the PC - I just can't access the phone. Using ADB I get a serial number followed by unrecgonised.
What can I use for this phone to get some sort of display, and something to control? Based in UK so any UK links would be appreciated.

Well, unrecognized means ADB does not even know what type of device is that, that's not good.
Any dock for a macbook using USB-C should work, as for proper stuff:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Multiport-Adapter-Ethernet-Compatible-Grey
https://www.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-Aluminium-Delivery-Charging-Compatible-Space-Grey
These two should also work with it.

Ok, so, you somehow need to authorize the PC for USB Debugging
