N920I modem and Bootloader flashable thruogh TWRP - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
Since Samsung is restricting flashing old firmware for N920I and other variants and showing " Error SW REV. Check Fail Device 4. Binary 3" error.
Can anyone provide his TWRP backup of pd3 or old modem and bootloaders files so that we can bypass ODIN and install PD3 directly through TWRP and have working Data networks

It would be just like the S4 I'd assume when you try to flash a non AT&T FW. It won't boot and it will give that error.

Has Anyone Tried Rooting the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S8 with CF Auto-Root?

I haven't seen this posted yet, but it looks like that Chainfire has an auto-root available for the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S8 now. My model from T-Mobile shows SM-G950U.
Link => https://autoroot.chainfire.eu
More info => http://wccftech.com/root-galaxy-s8-cf-auto-root/
I tried earlier today. It fails authentication.
I'm confused: are you sure this is for Snapdragon? Triangle away clears Knox warranty void flag?

Right
Cf-autoroot will not work. It got automatically built with the other versions. You need an unlocked bootloader to use it. Right now there is no way to root, none.

Flash G900A firmware on G900V phone...

Has anyone been successful in flashing the G900A firmware over the G900V phone? I read of someone going the opposite direction...
I'm very experienced with ODIN and flashing... any insight is welcome. I searched but didn't see many posts related to this...

What do you mean by "firmware"?
If it's the system partition then it's not a big problem.
If it's the kernel then the phone won't boot if you only don't have an unlocked bootloader.
But if it's bootloader and modem then you most likely won't be able to flash it or kill the phone.
Thanks,
I want to ODIN the official ATT S5 ROM over the Verison version... So... does that mean it's not possible?

I think, "A" ROM (system partition) on "V" hardware, bootloader, modem and kernel is possible.
I have a "V" sample here and can even try it if you're interested . But a little later.
But complete "A" Odin tar firmware on "V" hardware is definitely not possible.

Great clarification, thanks. If one were to flash the system partition, could future OTA updates could potentially brick the phone? Or would those updates simply fail?
A test would be great. Trying to get my kid's two V phones straight onto the ATT network... There are some dialing difficulties as they currently stand...

The updater usually does not find anything to update (I use here several "V"s and "T"s with "F" firmware). You can disable it to be sure, of course.

Don't you want to try this nice "F" unbranded firmware for your "V" phones? It should work excellent in GSM ntework.
BTW, LTE will be problematic with any firmware because "V" supports only 1 of 4 AT&T LTE bands.

Check out the samfail thread. They can help if the answers aren't already posted there.
No help there I think I'm screwed unless they find away to unlock snapdragon bootloader or some way to downgrade from rev3 to 1 or a remove/bypass solution.

Oh I see...hasn't rev3 been out for a while though? If so, I'm surprised it's still not available through SamFirm or Sammobile as it usually only takes a few days to appear there (iirc). I have Exynos so maybe I'm missing something...
Only firmware for SM-N950XU is rev1 and that was a hassle to obtain in the first place sammobile dose not even host it on there site...

It can't be very legit if you bought something that shouldn't actually have been sold in the first place! Either way, these are not retail models so I honestly have no idea where to get the firmware for them.
I have stock firmware for it but it's rev1 I'm rev 3 from my own carelessness sadly

[Root][sm-n9600]Root no TWRP method[Sept 21]

This method really is only a workaround for root while TWRP is getting it's finishing touches
You need oem unlock to complete this root method.
Magisk modules aren't installing, but may be an easy environmental fix. But root is there.
This boot.img has been taken from TGY Hong Kong firmware. There is a big chance this won't work on any other firmware. If you want to risk it, then have a full Odin firmware ready to flash.
If you upload your stock boot.img to me, I will pre patch them also but the method is really quite simple to do yourself.
Magisk has the ability to patch a boot.img that is on your sdcard. So by installing the magisk manager apk, you can then patch the boot.img. Then all you have to do is package it into a .tar and flash it with Odin.

Incredible! Thank so you much.
I have the same model and Hong Kong firmware. So am I to just download and odin flash the tar file?
Latest odin will do? Or is the modified version preferred?

Look for TGY under software information/software provider SW ver
FYI I have just found modules don't install, but root is present at least.

So far I haven't noticed any issues except for Magisk root itself. Modules can't be installed, but I may figure a workaround for that if TWRP doesn't rectify a few things soon. It's probable TWRP will be fully functional soon though. It's all related to the kernel.

Thank you for everything you have done for me,
This is a great help, I will do a flash test later and pay back.
If you are free, can you explain the error there?
Very grateful!!!
Questions from a samsung-noob:
1. Will this method also trip knox?
2. Do I still need to factory reset after enabling oem unlock?

I don't know where you got that kernel from to patch, but seeing that it says Sony in the error. I would imagine it is the seeing boot.img

Yes and yes.
Rooting will always trip Knox. Basically anything that mods away from stock will trip Knox. And there is no going back after. You will never be able to use Samsung pay or secure folder again after.
