I can only get 4G on OOS? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

So I have the A3000 US model of the 3T, which doesn't support LTE band 3. However, while using OOS I was able to get 4G, and a network discovery app said that the phone was using Band 7. On every other rom I've used I haven't been able to get 4g (which would make sense because it doesn't support the band) but how come with OOS I had LTE on band 7? I know that my carrier doesn't support that band either.
Is there a way to force the phone to try connecting to LTE/4G using band 7 or a way to unlock LTE bands on the 3T?

As far as i know the band locking has yet to be implemented, and your carrier might have band 7 transmission, you can check that from frequency check web sites

frequencycheck.com says my carrier uses band 3 and 40, both of which the US model doesn't support. However I'm 100% sure the app I used said it was doing 4G with band 7, and just the fact that I had 4G on OOS proves that I should be able to get 4G on other roms right?

Yes, if you get 4g on one rom, you should get that on all, I think radio is independent of the rom, and what carrier you have

Well then that really is strange. A thought that popped into my head was that I also had 4g on a marshmallow build of resurrection remix but ever since I updated to OOS nougat i dont get 4g on custom roms. Maybe i could flash the radio of an older oos build and get some results there?
Damn i said 4g a lot haha

By 4636 code do you mean *#*#4636#*#*? If so when I run that it brings up a page with options specific to my carrier (like purchasing data plans), it's also in my language so I think the carrier just took over that page...
EDIT: I opened the 4636 code window using an app, what specifically am i looking for here?

I would try Network Signal Guru and use band locking in there. *Requires root.

I tried band locking, I only get max H+ at my house but the app pretty much only shows WCDMA. I think for the band locking to work i'd actually need to get 4G in the first place

Flashed oos back, i have 4g and its using band 7. Amazing xD

Verizon G2 on T-Mobile LTE

Looks like T-Mobile LTE works on Verizon G2's now, just today I tried out a T-Mobile SIM to compare coverage and was surprised to see it.

Also in preferred Network, in a ROM not stock, What setting are you using? LTE or 3G?
I'm on the 12b radio, running CM10.2, and the radio mode is global. I chose the fast.tmobile APN that was automatically added when I installed the SIM.
This speedtest was taken on Rt. 3 in southern NH:

I had caught a glimpse of LTE on Mahdi ROM when I first boot it. Didn't get a chance to test speeds in Miami. Soon as I setup my phone and reboot it , I lost it so I'm guessing it's spotty.
Using Radio 12B also and it's was on Global in Mobile Network.

Just curious - what bands does the verizon G2 NOT have compared to the tmobile version? I'm on tmobile, if I get the verizon version (which are all unlocked), is the hardware identical? Does the vzw version not have AWS hspa? I think my area has been refarmed for 1900 hspa anyways.

Outside of the bands, the hardware is the same except for the Verizon G2 has Qi Wireless Charging and smaller back buttons. Supposedly with the addition of Qi, the Verizon G2 is 1mm thicker, so beware if you use any time of feather/slim cases. Most will probably work except the slutty, barely-there cases.

Is there a way to get tmobile LTE working with stock rom and some modifications?
I just got the G2 and wanted to keep the stock rom for a while until I got bored of it, but i'm not sure how to get the LTE working with tmobile. When I installed beanstalk it worked right away. I added the correct APN, but only showed H+ on stock rom.
thanks :good:

I may be wrong, but I believe tmobile lte working is based on your location. Some areas are using a certain band that our phones can use.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did get LTE working if I use another rom such as CM or beanstalk. But once I put stock rom back on, or even modified stock rom, I can't get LTE. I can try again, but pretty sure it gave only H+.
Is it stock?

I am running a stock G2 Verizon. Best I can get out of mine is 2G. When I put it on fast.t-mobile, I get nothing. How can I change the frequencies?
Also, have you found a way to install drivers to your PC? Mine will not recognize the phone except as a MTP drive. In debugging mode, but can't get driver to recognize the phone. Help!!! This has to be a Verizon issue. Any specific instructions would be appreciated.

I too use a Verizon G2 on T-mobile and I'm using this Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661866
This is based on the international stock rom so T-mobile 4G works on it (just choose VS980 in the Aroma installer). It seems like Verizon stock Roms block bands that Verizon doesn't use, forcing you to rely on 2G or 3G.
tmobile uses verizon 700mhz banz for lte now too. verizon model will work on all gsm and lte the have tobswitch to gsm / lte with phone info app if your having issues

T-Mobile LTE signal

I just got the phone on Monday. With the original ROM and after taking several OTA updates, my LTE signal strength at home and at work was horrible. I'd get around -120 dBm and it would frequently change to HSPA and even EVDO.
One thing that I noticed is that on LTE, it was using band 4, which is 2100 MHz. On my Note 2, it always used band 14, which is 700 MHz. The lower frequency penetrates buildings better and gave me a better signal at work and home (not great, but useable).
I just updated to the latest T-Mobile ROM from the developer site. The LTE signal strength is a bit better at -116 dBm and so far, it isn't changing to HSPA or worse. However, it is still using band 4.
Does anyone know why my old phone used band 14 and this new phone uses band 4? I would think that the phone would use whichever band gave it the best signal, which would certainly be band 14. Is there any way to force this?
Thanks.
I didn't look up the Note 2's specs but I'd guess it didn't have band 4. What are you using to see your band? OpenSignal?

I just looked up the specs on Wikipedia. It says that the T-Mobile version uses band 17, but I know that the phone said band 14 before I swapped SIMs.
Wikipedia says the Nexus 6 uses bands 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 13 / 17 / 25 / 26 / 29 / 41.
This is from the T-Mobile Support site: "TMO uses bands 2 and 4 on LTE/4G & 3G". Also from Support: "LTE band 4(1700/2100), 17(700)". I'm not sure what to believe, or what is in use around here. Like I said above, I know that the Note 2 said it was using band 14.
On the Nexus 6, I'm using an app called LTE Discovery.
T mobile only uses band 2,4,12 for LTE. The note 2 doesn't support band 12. I never heard of band 14.

I'm by no means an expert when it comes to bands/frequencies, however, if the app told you the Note 2 was on band 14, I think it was lying to you. I'm pretty sure there isn't even a band 14 in the U.S., and almost positive T-Mobile does not run LTE on that band.
When (if) band 12 reaches your neighborhood receiption indoors should improve drastically. On band 4 I usually get -109 to -101 dBm. On band 12 I get around -89 to -94 dBm.
I have tried different ROMs and different radio modems. Nothing I do gets me a decent signal. Very occasionally I have had a moderately strong LTE signal, but even then, the download speed is only usable and the upload speed sucks.
The phone doesn't stay on LTE for long. It switched to HSPA and even EVDO most of the time. On HSPA, my old Note 2 got at least 2 Mb downloads. This N6 can't even get a kilobyte down on HSPA.
I don't know if it really affects things, but I read some comments that a bad SIM could possibly cause this. Is this true? If so, I'll drop by the T-Mobile store again and ask them to try another SIM.
I love the phone for the big screen and other features, but I really can't live with this lousy data connection. If I can't get this resolved, I'll have to return the N6 and buy another phone.
I might consider a Note 5 if I have to. It only has a 5.7 inch screen, but my Note 2 had a 5.5 incher. I don't really use the pen and the price premium is high, but I don't know what other phones have a 5.7-6 inch display, except for some Chinese phones. I don't know if they are any good, or if I could use them on T-Mobile.
Call me frustrated.

Yes, I am on T-Mobile. I meant Edge, not EVDO. Too many acronyms.
I just got home and even though the phone is currently showing three bars on LTE, the signal level is only -118 dBm, which isn't good. Speed test won't even do 1/2 Mb/s on download. This is pathetic.
As much as I otherwise like this phone, I can't live with this lousy signal issue. Unless someone knows of a fix, I will have to return the phone to Amazon. As I said, I have tried different ROMS and modems. I have also tried changing various settings that others have suggested (clearing cache, APN settings, etc.). I don't know what else to do.

Because of the choppy voice calls, as well as the lousy data connection, I am returning this phone and getting a Note 5. Although it is my personal phone, I also need a reliable phone for when I am on call at work.
I have spent all week on this and can't waste any more time. I need something that works. My Note 2 was reliable. I hope the Note 5 will be also.
Thanks to all for suggestions.
I too am having LTE data connection issues on LYZ28K. Anyone on LMY48M having data issues? I tried setting phone info to "LTE only", but that didn't help. I don't need wifi calling, so I'm wondering if I should switch to LMY48M?

Android M LTE bands check?

Hi Guys,

unlike what less informed posters may say there IS an app for that... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blueline.signalchecklite I'm able to check what band I'm on with this app by looking next to the "sprint" carrier name it will say what band it's on (B41/B25) except while on band 26 since it's the default band they had before doing the multiple band thing, tmo should work the same, alternatively in the same app the frequency of the LTE will appear next to the "LTE" network descriptor no matter what band it's on (mine says LTE 2500 since it's on band 41 which uses 2500MHZ)

I always use the SignalCheck app. There is a free version and a paid version.
Thank you guys for your responses.
I actually live in the Bay Area at Stanford so I guess I should have B12 according to the coverage map.
I don't see it though, on both apps I just see the B4. Could it be that the Band4 signal is stronger and that's why I don't see the band 12 as well?
I remember that when I received the phone it had like a T-Mobile app and I had it until I upgraded to Android M on my own, now when I downgraded and upgraded to MRA58X I couldn't see that app again. Could there be anything connection between the two or should it be enough if I just have that firmware installed?
you'll get the bands if they're in the area, apps don't mess with connection on that level... b4 is faster and has more room for tons of subscribers (1700 mhz), so if your phone can see it it still prefer it to b12 which is slower and narrower (700mhz) however it does penetrate buildings better and go further in the country so it's more reliable. they also have b2 (1900mhz) is faster than b4 and b12 but goes less far from the tower and can barely go through a wall... if your phone can see b2 it will prefer it to bands 4 and 12

I wouldn't count on it. The entire reason the Nexus 6P received VoLTE is that it supports channel 40, which your carrier uses. Neither Nexus 6 model includes channel 40, the 6P is listed on the list of compatible devices and the 6 is not. If VoLTE is on band 40, you may be able to add that band if you're willing to risk bricking your phone. Otherwise, it's unlikely VoLTE will ever work on the Nexus 6 with the carrier you are using.

Because VoLTE requires a fatter pipe than what band 3 is using. Band 40 is that pipe. The bandwidth on bands 3 and 5 is only 5MHz. Band 40 is 20MHz.[1] The lack of band 40 is why the Nexus 6 is not on Jio's list of supported phones, and why the Nexus 6 is highly unlikely to get VoLTE.

I don't think so. Volte is used in all bands.. if my building has only band 5 signal available, does that mean Volte/calls won't work just because my phone can't receive band 3 or 40?

From my understanding of things (admittedly limited), VoLTE uses a lot of bandwidth, thus you need a fat pipe to use it. Here in the US it generally isn't a problem as the major carriers for the most part don't have narrow pipes. In India, with Jio, the narrow bandwidth of bands 3 and 5 is a problem, and thus you would need band 40.
If you have band 5 available but nothing else, you'll get LTE data but your calls will be on the 3G network. Given the 6P is supported on Jio and the 6 is not, what Jio is using to determine network compatibility is the presence or absence of band 40. The 6P has band 40 while the 6 does not. The 6P has VoLTE - according to previous posts - while the 6 does not. The conclusion based upon the facts is that band 40 is required for VoLTE.

Jo is a total 4g network. So no fall back options (3g/2g). I never faced an issue where i had only LTE but not VoLTE. That makes me think Volte should be offered on all bands. And Volte doesn't consume much data like VOIP options. 6P is not having Volte yet by the way. waiting for some patch.
the sadder part is i can't even make calls using the jio4voice app itself. It always shows THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE IN YOUR REGION. Anything i can do about it ??
Idk but mine was fixed buy some settings in the internet

LTE isn't showing (4g+) only

Hi all,
I have the north american variant, however, I only see 4g+ and no LTE. Has anyone experienced this issue?
I'm on the latest rooted oxygen OS beta.
Thanks

4G+ is LTE on OOS as its made that way.
It does not show LTE by default on OOS as its built what way.
It would only shows 4G or 4G+

Thanks! Did you need to modify anything? I believe 4G+ is not LTE, on my old phone I got over 65mbit speed test...now I barely get 16...
4G is the same as LTE. Actually LTE is even worse than 4G standards. LTE is a pre-4G technology (in middle between 3g and 4g), while 4G and 4G+ have the "LTE advanced" standard included. You want to see 4G, if you see LTE then you are slower.

Well if it's the same thing then something must be going on. Since I got this phone I do not get over 16-17 Mbit in speed test...I used to get 65 in the same location. I tried disabling my voice sim but no difference, the speed test is too slow.

IDK. Did you check if all the APN info are correct? Are you still using the same endpoint there?
