Since this is my first tablet i want to get a good game controller, any recommendations? I dont know if the sixxaxis app will work on this with my ps3 controller but it should since it has bluetooth. Tegra zone says u can use a wired 360 controller on there games but i dont know if it will work on the nexus 7? So any ideas would be great. Ty very much
You could buy an Onlive controller and play PC games on it . I don't know if that works with the Tegra Zone games though..
SixAxis controllers pair natively with my Transformer Prime (just have to turn the controller on, and search for bluetooth devices from the tablet).
Works with pretty much any app or emulator, especially if the app allows you to remap the keys to your liking. Can't see why the Nexus 7 would be any different...
Im using a sixaxis its ok but i gotta use the cable with my iconia a500, Nyko playpad is out soon thats the offical tegra game pad.
Wait. Is it possible for me to play COD on the N7 using a PS3 controller?

Can't you play CoD with OnLive, streaming via the app and controller?

Ah... You guys got me excited there.
I would hold off on buying a Sixaxis controller until the dev of the sixaxis app gives the 'go' for jellybean
Any game that works with the 360 controller can work with the OnLive controller. All you have to do is fool the OS into thinking the OnLive controller is actually a 360 controller, details outlined in this thread.

Lucid Logix are gearing up for their own version of onlive that you can run on your home PC and stream your own games to your laptops/devices (android included). There were demos at the last CES showing 1 PC with 1 Graphics card streaming 3 different games to 3 different devices simultaneously
http://www.lucidlogix.com/technology-cloud.html
makes sense to me, why pay for online to play games you already own for your pc.
As a stand in at the moment you could try "splash top"
Ditto
I agree that the OnLive Controller is the best option, right now. If you are willing to wait, Nyko has a great controller http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/5/3066853/nykos-playpad-android-controllers-free-fighter-ps3-hands-on,
SIxaxis updated yesterday to bring Jelly Bean support. PS3 controller is the best controller because of touch emulation and Sixaxis controller, but requires Root.
Nyko PlayPad and PlayPad Pro hands down. They're not out yet, coming out this fall/winter. and no price, but it fully supports the tegra 3 and works without root.
In addition, you can even REBIND TOUCH CONTROLS to the controller. That sold me right there.
The PlayPad (not pro) also includes a case and stand for your tablet/phone.

Ah, I missed that. Tegra-exclusivity likely makes these a waste of time for many (definitely me).

It is designed and compatable with all Tegra3 games but it does NOT require the tegra.
It's requirements are only any android device running 3.0+ and bluetooth. It does NOT require the Tegra3 but it is built and designed to instantly work with Tegra3 games, other games and other hardware may require manual setup (you can also download setups through their app)

Thinking about getting a Gamepad for my Nexus 10. Which is the best solution? Sixasis seems to be well known but do I need to setup every single game to work with this or are most games with Gamepad support working out of the box?
Another question is the root requirement. Since at the time only main user get root I assume the gamepad then are useless for all user except main user?
Maybe another gamepad solution is the better choice?

I love my nyko playpad. Works perfectly with the vast majority of games I've tried it with ( Dead Trigger, GTA 3, N64/SNES emulators, Need For Speed, Shadowgun, etc...). No root required either!
Just DON'T install or use their Playpad software. It made it so my playpad would no longer pair and I couldn't fix the problem until I did a factory reset. A quick Google search revealed that many Nexus 10 owners had the same problem.
SteelSeries is the nicest looking controller I've seen, Googling 'SteelSeries nexus 10' brought up an article about it and the reviews seem great. Kind of expensive though.
If you don't wanna spend any money you can download Bluetooth controller from the market and use a another android device as a controller assuming u own 1 of course

Got a PS3 controller laying around? Use the Sixaxis app in the market to pair it with your tablet. I've used a few different gamepads (bluetooth and OTG) and this is my favorite by far.
I would also like to know some more input on this. I have the sixaxis app and a ps3 controller that I used on my N7 when I had it. I will admit getting it to work with games like GTA3 or any other app that uses a touch input seems to be kind of a pain in the ass. I am looking for an easier solution one that doesn't require me to root or mess around with any on screen mappings or configurations. It seems like the gamepads from gamestop have software that sort of does that for you.
Does anybody know how well these work? I am american and I'm lazy as hell. If I can buy a solution for only 30 bucks and have it work for games like Shadowgun, GTA3, SNES etc without having to put too much effort beyond saying button 1 = jump etc then I would prefer that.
I would like to hear peoples opinions on this though. The reviews on gamestops website don't really offer to much and I just want a good solid, reliable easy to use controller that doesnt require me to root but if someone can point me out to a good easy to understand site to manipulate the ps3 controller and mappings I may take that into consideration. Otherwise any other reviews on controllers would be helpful as well.
edit* I also would like to not use a usb OTG cable. I'm looking strictly for bluetooth.

Read my post about the Nyko Playpad above. Any game with gamepad support (including the ones I listed) will work swimmingly with little to no effort.
Thanks for all the tips. Tried BT controller from play store. Did work good with emus but did not get any function in dead trigger.
Is gamepad just supposed to work in dead trigger because I didn't found any settings for configuring the gamepad.

I picked up the samurai controller from GameStop and it worked flawlessly with all the games. Synced right up to the n10 like a boss. Good build quality and has the option to act like a gamepad or a keyboard. Some games require one or the other.

Probably not your ideal solution, but I use a wired Xbox 360 controller along with USB/BT Joystick Center 6 and, if playing a touch-only game, I use Joy2Touch Server from the same developer and set up a profile. Yes, you do need to set it up with every different touch-only game. With emus, you only need to set up your desired button layout once.

I'm interested in this setup for playing Heroes of Order and Chaos. It uses a virtual d-pad on the screen. Could I make the gamepad work with it?
+1 for the PS3 controller + Sixaxis.
It will work without any setup (other than starting the Sixaxis app) for games that have native gamepad support. Games like these include GTA III/Vice City, Shadowgun, Virtua Tennis, Sonic CD, Riptide GP, etc.
For games that don't support the gamepad you have the option of creating a touch profile. It truly is very easy.
And for those that are super lazy, the website http://www.sixaxisofpower.com/ is a community with user submitted touch profiles for various games.

Sounds like the solution I am looking for. I need to buy the controller then
But one question which is quite crucial. Is it only main user with root who can use it or if it's installed in system maybe the needed files will be accessible by all users?
Oh one more.... The newer Dualshock are they Sixasis compatible or is it just the old ps3 controllers that are usable?

Yep, it's pretty easy to set it up for a game that uses a virtual D-Pad/buttons.
Hey guys, do you need a special cable to first connect the PS3 controller to the phone\tablet or will it work just by pairing them up over Bluetooth?
Cheers,
M
You will need a mini usb cable the first time to pair it. After that it will pair automatically.

PS3 controller has a mini USB port, but the Nexus 10 uses micro USB (there's a difference; micro is a bit smaller) :/ But if anything, a USB OTG cable is like $1 or so, just might take a while to get to you depending on where you order it from online, and retail stores would probably price it at $10 or something lol
Yes,
The mini USB connects to the controller, the other end of the cable will be a standard usb connector. You can connect it to the nexus 10 with an OTG adapter.
If you don't have the OTG connector, you can pair it through your pc using the sixaxis pair tool:
http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/tool.html
You forgot to say u need root to use sixaxis

I really couldn't figure out if this belongs here but here I go.
So, wanting a better gaming experience and not having a ps3 controller, I decided to get an otg adapter for my Logitech dual action pc controller. I did this because I noticed after playing around with a root explorer, that our phone had a file to support a Logitech controller.
Well, sure enough it worked......with shadow gun. I tried to get it to work with the dark knight rises but no luck. Tried the Joy2touch app to see if I could get my Logitech controller to work with any game, but couldn't get it set up. Might have been user error on my part, but can anyone attest that Joy2touch or some other app can get a random game controller like the Logitech dual action to work? Or maybe you guys have a better solution?

I got a PowerA MOGA for Christmas. Works pretty nice, I love it. Can be a pain to pair sometimes. Works with many big name games. Fun to use and it holds the phone. Kinda expensive but worth it, I would have bought it had I not received it http://www.powera.com/moga

Download Six Axis App app from the play store. Then go HERE. You'll get your ps3 to work with every game including emulators. It's pretty awesome actually.
Also visit XDA S3 Six Axis Profiles Happy Gaming!
ps - we share same resolution as the gs3 so the profiles for those work just fine with the note 2.

I think you missed the fact that he doesn't have a PS3 controller.
With your setup, you're going to need games that have native gamepad support, which shadowgun does. Madfingers is pretty good about adding it: their Samuri games don't. Rockstar has it on GTA3: I think GTAVC has it too.
I would see if you can pick up used, and hopefully not abused, PS3 sixaxis controller. You can probably get the non-dual shock version pretty cheap; it has not vibrate function. The Sixaxis Controller app makes it more robust because of being able to map touch controls, which is what profiles are. Not all games are can done profiled such as Dead Space.
Other controllers I've read about it, such as Moga, still need game developers to add support. I know there are other blue tooth controllers, but you'll still looking at the same limitations mentioned above.
Overall, it's just a limit of the game themselves. I would say most mobile game users are not keeping a controller with them. Thus, game developers are designing their games for no gamepad use. Maybe is Ouya and other similar devices prove to be successful beyond being niche, maybe developers will add native game pad support
Has anyone looked into exporting whatever software samsung is using and modifying it to work on other devices?
The N6 has a pentile 1440P display that would make for a good candidate.
What would be reason for that? It wont fit into gear vr. Without gear vr no access to gyro built into headset. Without gyro no fluid experience.

I have actually, so we could do development on emulator, I got service and oculus installing on device, had to unpack and add twlauncher sechardware framework smali into 2 of the apks, vrshell and vrsvc as well as null out some device checks in vrsetupwizard
However the main hurdle you run into is OpenGL ES 3 requirement, I tried on S4 but it is missing the front buffer extension resulting in crash - gave up at this point as I'm unsure how to add extensions to OpenGL?
Our solution in the end was not to bother installing anything, and run our app on not standard phone, it complains about no VRManager, renders fine but no head tracking (we then use cardboard api on dev phones)
If you're a developer why not just buy a Note 4 and Gear VR and charge money once the App store takes payments. I would be willing to pay for an emulator (I assume old school games/Mame). Plus wouldn't the thermal characteristics of the Nexus 6 differ from the Note 4 chassis and battery which is critical to prevent overheating/maximize performance. And based on John Carmack keynote speech we might see custom modifications made to the screen technology for future Samsung devices. Changes that would not make sense for other phones. Going down this road does not seem logical for the long term.
we do, but its expensive to buy multiple note 4s and gear vrs for everyone on such a small market, especially when we have other android devices. Sorry I was referring to the android emulator, not a game emulator.
I see that people have successfully altered the gear vr consumer edition to work with the Note 4. This is wonderful.
But, I'm wondering, has anyone altered the usb plug so that you plug your usb cable in from your pc to the gear vr?
Yes, it would require some Dremel work, but the benefit would be having a decent vr experience while using trinus vr and tridef 3d with all your favourite pc games.
Considering the gear vr price right now (cheap), its similar to the freefly (google cardboard vr's) that let you plug into your pc while you use it.
Has anyone tried this? I'll let you know if I give it a go. Optimally, you could either plug your phone into the gear, or your pc cable (both options).
I am interested too!
Thought about just replacing the old original plug with a new one. But I guess the oculus store app doesn't start anymore then. Is there a way to start this app manually?
I agree this thread is awesome and it is something that will make some xda dev famous. I molded a consumer gear vr to fit the note 4 and it has been great. I want to play oculus dk games and apps as well as other pc games. Which att note? SGH-i717 (quincyatt)?
use package disabler pro to disable the samsung gear vr service. this will prevent the occulus app from launching. if you enabled dev mode on the vr before you disable the gear vr service you will be able to use it with low persistence. all of this can be done without root. tested it on my s7 with trinusvr trial
If you have a consumer vr can it be done the same way.

Sorry note 4 sm-n910a 5.1.1
I do have dev mode and the disabler app, didn't think to go dev mode first or use the low latency. My question is, is that enough? Enough to warrent not mod ding the usb from a charger to a full blown vr input? Is it that good or even good enough? I honestly think this mod would be a god send and whoever mods it considered a god. I heard they brought up doing it to oculus and it was denied. They didn't want mobile at a value to compete with a pc platform that would go for your wallet. On the other spectrum I also wouldn't mind being able to even simply use it as intended to charge my note 4 while playing vr. That would be nice too:good:
Oh yea one more thing is Intugame woth trying or should I just stick with trinus?

Yes, but way too buggy at the moment. Try Stream Theater for Steam (and non steam) games, works via Moonlight.
