Just got myself a Mi5 from banggood.
Came with fake rom full of rubbish of course.
So I flashed it with the official global rom.
Upon setting up, I couldn't find Australia in the region section....? And not even the USofA ...
My question is, how do you set your region to one that's not on the list?
Or for all of yas Aussies, which region did u set ur phone to?
Thanks

I use morelocale2 for that, if you have root just select language and locale in the app, without root you need to grant permission with PM-command (via adb) first, it's all described in the app. That way I can have english language but still use sweden as locale.

That is something you don't have to care about. It's only for the regional configuration like AM/PM-24h parameters and so. It doesn't affect GPS or any other thing (correct me if I'm wrong). You may want to select India because of english.
When I bought it, I used to select some South American countries because Spain was not on the list.
Yes i know it doesn't affect anything, except the kind of apps u get pre installed and the bookmarks on the browser.
But it'd be nice to set your locale to where you actually are.
I guess i just have to deal with it, because i don't want to go to the rooted path.
Got my Mi 5 from Banggood 2 days ago to Aus and has no issues with bloatware? I personally set the locale to South Africa and have been sweet. Intend to flash Lineage however. Cheers

I've noticed that we have a few Chinese users here and I was wondering what stock rom the phone has since we don't have a stock Chinese firmware, nor a stock firmware with even the Chinese language. Do ya'll get them with CM from the carrier over there? or do ya'll have a different stock than whats available here?
Thanks
I'm curious and this has always bugged me.

I dont think we have stock Chinese firmware since this phone is mainly focused on only some markets. even in my country (Vietnam), we're neighborhood of China but I still must buy an ATT one which is bought by shipping from US
Correct me if I'm wrong but if we have, more choices are better

That sucks. I was, and still am, hoping that perhaps there's another stock firmware floating around somewhere. Later in its life the Defy started getting more and more Chinese users and firmwares, some of which were done in a way that it enabled us to flash custom roms if we screwed up and took an OTA that blocked the hacks. The first Atrix even had a leaked Chinese ICS even though it was never officially supposed to be past Gingerbread. With the Chinese and Asian users here, I was hoping an Asian carrier might have released or is using a different stock firmware than what we already have....maybe that's not the case and they're all just importing like you.

If that is the case. When you buy a Chinese Atrix HD do you get it with a Chinese firmware or did you had to flash an US firmware?

if the phone is popular in China , the storekeeper will hire someone to develop the Chinese package so that we can get the Chinese interface .
MB886 is popular ,so it has the Chinese package at first ,after unclock the bootloader , they also translate other rom into Chinese, like slim, beanstalk and so on .
if the phone has Chinese interface ,it can sells in higher price .
I used to bought a moto XT881, it is very cheap because no Chinese interface .
Ohhh i see. Thanks for sharing. So in other words the phone do get stock version same as ours.
Hello,
I bought N9208 today with the knowledge that it is compatible to my current carrier TMobile. I have several questions for those who have this phone.
#1. Am I able to install the operating system from TMobile? I am basically a noob when it comes to rooting etc etc. The phone comes unlocked.
#2. What is the primary difference between the N9208 and TMobile' N920T. I purchased this phone because it has 2 Sim slot and I like the Titanium color.
#3. What should I be doing first upon receiving the phone? How can I add flash software to this phone?
#4. Does unlock also mean the phone is rooted?
Any help or advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the patience.

I think you shouldn't do anything to your phone during a few days, to make sure that everything works fine. With an unlocked phone you'll be able to use any SIM card, and with a rooted phone you'll be able to see, modify and delete system files that otherwise can't be seen, so if a phone is unlocked it doesn't mean that it's also rooted.
To flash a new ROM you can use Odin.

Thank you, the tracking says my phone will arrive tomorrow. I will make sure it works fine with TMobile before doing anything else.
Oh... what do you mean by "To flash a new ROM you can use Odin?" Does this mean I can use TMobile's operating system and not from Taiwan's since this is from Taiwan? Sorry i am really a noob when it comes to this.

You can't use a firmware of the N920T on your N9208, as they are different models. You can only install a firmware that is specific for your device model.

So what should I do? lol I don't want Taiwan's apps. I would like to cater my phone as closely as TMobile's.
I have the N9208 and use it on TMOUS. It does not come with any Taiwan apps, just all Samsung official apps. The traditional Chinese keyboard and handwriting recognition are on by default. I have not tried turning them off since I do write in Chinese sometimes. You cannot install TMO FW as they are two different models. The main difference is that the TMO supports Samsung Pay while the N9208 does not yet since it is not supported in TW yet. It is not rooted by default.

So what should I do? Just leave it alone for now, and not root it? Can the keyboard be changed to simplified chinese?

It's up to you, just know that if you do root, it will trip Knox. That means you won't be able to use Samsung Pay if it gets released in the future and Android Pay unless there is some workaround. Yes, there is Simplified Chinese. You can also always download third party keyboards if you prefer.

Oh, what do you mean by "traditional chinese on by default?" I mostly type in English, so I hope English Language can be on default. I currently have Note 3, and if I swipe the space key, it switches to simplified chinese. Is Note 5 similiar to this that?
I guess I will leave it alone for a bit and see how it does. I read on the T Mobile forum at Tmobile website and it says N9208 does not have "LTE" and that wi fi calling isn't available? Is this true though?
Thanks
I just received my Note 5 N9208, and there isn't simplified chinese. Do I go to google play to download it? Also, the weather, how do I add multiple cities' weather? I am not liking the Samsung keyboard already. Can someone help? thanks

I just mean that when you first use the device the default keyboard and handwriting are set to both traditional Chinese and English. Yes you can deselect Traditional and change it to English. On the Note5 you just click on the globe key and it will change the language. It does support LTE. I posted a picture in a post somewhere, you can look at my history to find it. It does not have wifi calling from what I can tell.
Sent from my SM-N9208 using Tapatalk
I read elsewhere in the forum that the N9200 (China Note 5) does not come with the google play store and that rooting is often required to get it. I don't want to root. Does the N9208 come with the google play store? I assume yes since it's the Taiwan version, but would love to get some confirmation. Thanks! My plan is to use the phone on AT&T in the US states, and on China Mobile in China (N9208 should be fine for use in China as long as not using China Telecom, from what I've seen on frequencycheck).

hi,
i sure it will depend what you looking for.?
Branded or unbranded stock Rom ? (local or international)
example.. I have a Note5 920 C device stock, not rooted and branded Vodacom software on device. ( basically same as Vodafone branded, same company. )
It has no WhatsApp installed.
So yes, you will find some stock Roms without WhatsApp.
Good luck

I prefer unbranded roms but couldn't find any, or even branded network unlocked. I can go with branded but without network lock.
What is the CSC for your device? Is it network locked or not? I may use it even it is branded.
Thanks

hi,
firstly,
no, its not network lock. My CSC is
N920COJV2AOJ3
However, point i was making, was to point you in the direction of maybe checking Vodafone Uk software (should be same, no WhatsApp.. not sure)
Yes, my software is branded software,
Only irritation, is the branded splashscreen. The extra pre installed apps, can be mostly be deleted or disabled.
Regarding the unbranded software.. .. the few i flashed with my old Note 4, mostly all had WhatsApp.. I think BTU, did not... not sure..?
Point is, there is Note5 Roms, without the WhatsApp pre installed.
Good luck

So do you have a link for your firmware as I don't know which one is it on sammobile firmwares? Which country?

hi ,
here is the link re Samsmobile..(South Africa )
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/58392/N920CXXU2AOJ5_N920COJV2AOJ3_XFV/
se screenshot below .( You will see its listed also as a Vodafone software )
Just do your "homework" that you are satisfied all is in order.
(Device model no, or don't flash older software than your current Rom, re bootloader... etc etc .)
Bottom line is,
if you have any issues, flash your device latest, correct updated Rom.
Just to note ...,
with my old Note 2..,. Note 3 and Note 4.
i had branded Vodacom/Vodafone firmware and was able to flash all other unbranded ROMS ..eg ..Germany ,BTU ,Nordic countries ( NEE ) ,Netherlands etc etc .
good luck

Hi ,
Strange,
as i got no Whatsapp, on my stock ,non rooted Note 5, installed etc .
Never ever had and i have phone since Oct 2015.( but then my software on device was pre installed )
Anycase ,i feel like you ...i also don' t fancy it .??
I don't need it and if i am on my laptop /phone /internet it's amazing all the" spam / tricks /cons " that pop up .??
...eg ..Your Whatsapp version is outdated ,plse update to new version...click here..!!!!!!
( ...then like i stated i never ever had this " app" installed ..!!)
Why don't you disable it in Application Manager or if rooted uninstall it with root app Titanium Backup ?
Good luck in your quest.
Sorry for a super noob question, but is there a way to change the region setting on the mi 11 ultra?
I'm stuck on "united states" and I live in the UK.
I've noticed certain apps don't function correctly because they think I am based in the USA.
E.g. Ubereats and little things like google maps, has an American accent during navigation etc.
Any help would be great.
I am currently on official China from: Miui stable 12.5.4

I had a suspicion that might have been the case but wanted to double check on here.
We'll I'm planning to flash the. Eu Rom in 2 days when the bootlocker has been unlocked.
Wish me luck!!!
you can edit it with morelocale.
MoreLocale 2 – Apps bei Google Play
Dies ist nur MoreLocale2
play.google.com
If you have downloaded the app from the Play Store and are connecting the device for the first time via USB, the message "Allow USB debugging" will appear. Accept this and check the box “Always allow from this computer”.
Connect your device to the PC and start the "02_grant_permission.bat".
Follow the instructions and then Morelocale 2 should have the required rights.
Now open Morelocale 2 and choose your preferred language.
All apps that you now download from the Play Store will run in the language of your choice.
Hi people, I am not advanced as many of you here, need advice how to activate Beta from non supported countries like mine, Serbia.
I tried vpn to Germany, UK, USA, after removing SIM and deleting data from galaxy apps, google store and reinstalling samsung members, but to no avail, everything works except the Beta part, since it actually requires SIM card from supported region.
My next step is to put in German prepaid sim and try steps again to see if registration is possible, do u guys have any better advice? Cheers

I have an s20 ultra here, i already changed my CSC before from EGY to DBT, do you think adding an e-sim could work for the upcoming A12 beta or does it have to be a physical SIM?
How easy is it to get an e-sim when you are in a completely different country?
You dont need a german SIM...
Use international sim card instead and change the country in your sim settings...
Thats my old guide from back in the days of android 9 and still works fine for everyone
My international sim is from lycamobile and was free so for anyone that wants to try it please feel free to do so☺

Just install the firmware with adb. You won't get updates and will have to install updates via adb every time, but it's better than giving yourself a headache trying to figure out how to gain access to the beta. You might also be kicked out even if you figure it out if your vpn is turned off.

It is EXTREMELY easy bud. If you do it right, you literally just have to copy a file to a folder, then open an app, type or copy a command, select an option on your phone and select another command. 5 steps. Follow a YouTube guide.
You gotta start somewhere, right
