So I'm currently on T-Mobile, but their service at my work and home make my phone almost unusable (unless I use wifi). So my question is has anyone switch to fi and seen a lot better results?
Probably the best way to find out is if you know anyone using Sprint or US Cellular. Ask them to check their coverage in your trouble areas. If it's better than T-Mobile, then Fi would be a good option. I live in an area bordered by small hills so no carrier works great for me. Using Project Fi, I find that some days I get a better signal from Sprint, other days T-Mobile. Fi does work well on wi-fi when all signals suck. Also it's inexpensive and I love the simple billing. I just wish I could talk my wife out of her iphone so I could enroll her too!

Anyone using an N1 in Dayton Ohio?
May need to switch carriers.
How is your coverage north of Dayton, I70?
arent you from howardforums....
Hi osugsxr,
Long time no talk. Not on that forum much, very active on NexusOne Forum. How's it going?
I sold my BB's and have an N1 I rooted and starting to theme, love it. But, the areas I go to now with work, like Tipp and Troy are not covered well by CBW. I need to change carriers. I was in north Columbus Tuesday and NO SERVICE.
It is obviously a TMO version, won't work on Att. Too bad cause they have nicer clamshells for the wife and my one son gave the other is 3g iphone and got the 4g. I can jailbreak it and go TMO, know only 2g works that way. May not get him data anyway. So, in a fix. Don't want to sell N1 and get an Incredible on Att, like N1 and maybe will not like Att dropped calls and the junk, Media Center, they put on their phones.
Wondering if TMO has good 3g in those ares I mentioned with the N1. Or, any suggestions.
Ken
I use the N1 on TMO but can't speak of anything past Vandalia going north. I was just up there two weeks ago and had no problems in the Vandalia area.
Cincinnati Bell roams on T-mobile. If your phone says Cin Bell USA that means you are on T-mobile. I am not familiar with coverage in the Dayton area, I typically stay around Cincy or south in KY. Hope this at least helps a little.
Thanks everyone,
OutlawPro: By Vandalia I am on Edge no 3g
stickerbob: I have seen Cinbell on occasion, no 3g. But, most of the time Edge or no connection. Figured it would roam in Columbus, but couldn't even make a call from Polaris Mall. Just norht of Columbus off of 270.

Yes I have same problem within my house, upstairs ill get 3g coverage and go down one floor itll be switching back and forth. As for being in Columbus my cincy bell coverage dropped and had to switch to cinbell usa tmobile, and I had 3g coverage near polaris and basically it was pretty solid, but I had to manually make the switch over to cinbell usa.
If you arent getting the coverage I would consider switching to another carrier, for me cincybell is solid only $15 for unlimited text and data.....using it to tether and for the ipad wifi been averaging 5-6gb month. What makes it worse is most of that is from downloading roms and flashing them. Its fun to develop with this phone, but I may have to get rid of it stop playing with it. New hobby probably going to be a harley .....
osugsxr,
You don't pay the extra gb's do you. CBW is suppose to be true unlimited. I have seen CinBell USA, but when I try it, it won't register on network. Mayb not far enough outside CBW area. Did not try in Columbus. Could also try checking 2g when no 3g or CinBell available. I like CBW too. But need voice and gps where I go on calls.
BTW, appreciated all your help on Howards. Glad I got the N1 and rooted.
I should be able to tether on TMO also, don't do it very often. So, limits won't apply.

Nope dont pay the extra gb's, although I did read in the contract where cbw will think you are tethering if you go over 5gbs, but nothing has been mentioned to me about my usage, so Im when that time comes we will see but I doubt it ever will. Cinbell USA you do have to be out of range, when my 3g coverage drops I will change settings to cinbell usa, it wont allow me to register onto network. Once I flip back over to cinbell I usually regain my 3g service most of the time.
Yes rooting is addicting, very fun and being able to change up your phone is nice. I did sell my original n1, and was about to make the switch to an iphone but was talked out of it, took the money and purchased another n1, basically brand, with all the original equipment which I didnt have.
Thanks for the info.
My company is currently with Verizon and I like their coverage but hate everything else about them. I'm wondering how T-Mobile's coverage is and if anyone has any feedback about them.
Thanks.
If you're in a decent market you shouldn't have any issues, and the resection on the S6 is fantastic (for me at least). The only thing I miss is when I go on road trips, the 4G coverage gets spotty, but I know they are upgrading constantly. I also find that I have way better download speeds than I did when I was on Verizon. I understand your hesitation in switching, I was with Verizon since before it was even called Verizon.
I'm planning on buying an Xperia z3 Compact. I currently have verizon so I know I'll have to switch to either att or T-Mobile. I've read that some people were having issues with getting lte service with att where they were not getting calls or texts with the lte on but haven't heard much good or bad about T-Mobile. The threads about lte issues were from last year so I don't know if anything has changed since then. Some people said registering their sim with an iPhone imei either but others said it made no difference. I do know someone who I could get an iPhone imei from but don't want to waste my time if it doesn't actually fix anything.
I'm open to trying either carrier since they're both contract free but would rather avoid the hassle of switching carriers 3 times. Att does seem to have a better reputation in my area (Long Island, NY) as far as coverage goes.
You'll always get better coverage with at&t but you'll also pay more and they do not have unlimited data. The phone works flawlessly on t-mobile but this phone does not support WiFi calling on any network if you care about that.
Sent from my Xperia Z3 Compact
I've never used wifi calling so I don't mind that it isn't an option. I also don't mind paying more for a service that works better. Verizon is priced right around what att is and doesn't offer unlimited data either so I'd pretty much be in the same boat as I am now.
What carrier do you have? Do you live in this area too?
I have t-mobile but live in the Midwest. Works fine in metropolitan areas, falls flat in rural areas.

You can try a prepaid plan for a month each on both carriers to see who works better for you. I did that when I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile.
I come from Verizon(Glad to be off due to price of service). Over all how do you guys feel about the Network in comparison to big red? I paid more due to the fact that where I lived that's the only provider that had service. Now in Phoenix its not such a big deal but I go all over the state.... How do you all feel about Project Fi?
I have been on Project Fi since early December and so far like it. The pricing is great and very straightforward, $20.00 for unlimited talk and text plus $10 per gig of data. Simple as that. You are only charged a portion of the $10/data. For example, I initially started with a $40.00 plan ($20.00 + $20.00/2 GB data). My first bill was about $33.00 because I only used about 1.3 GB of data. You also get mobile hotspot with no issues with Project Fi.
When I drove to Chicago from Florida during Christmas I always had a signal and data speeds were great. Now, where I work my data speeds are poor but I can still make and receive calls with no issue. Otherwise, it’s not too bad where I live and I just rely on my WiFi at home. It uses Sprint and T-Mobile towers along with WiFi.
I am still on Verizon and use my LG G2 for that service. Mainly because Verizon gives me great coverage for data at work and I have an unlimited data plan. However, I’m thinking of ditching my unlimited if I start using Project Fi more and more.
Give it a try, it’s easy to setup and you can easily cancel if it doesn’t work out.
I'm already on it and I enjoy it so far. Just looking into others opinions of Project Fi on the Nexus 6.
I've been on it for a little less than a month so don't have much experience, but I havent had any signal issues data speeds are steady but Iive near a metro city so Sprint and TMO are both pretty good as far as coverage goes. Ive pretty got Wi-Fi wherever I go so data is not really an issue. Overall I'm really enjoying it and the added features with Hangouts is pretty cool.
a few threads on this about this forum. are you a member of the google plus forum for google fi op?
ive been on it since the first invites. i have a launch day nexus6 and two ipads, so 3 devices in total all under the fi program.
i have coverage everywhere i have gone. prior to fi, i had sprint since 1998 and fi has saved me tons of dough.
i have lte inside the workspace ( i work in a film /television studio), despite all the tungsten lamps, led lamps, miles and miles of wires, shielding, etc.
Got a the new P5 and figured I would try out Google Fi for the first time. I know I have good Sprint coverage in most of my area and really good T-Mobile coverage in limited areas. At my home, I get no T-Mobile, but there is good Sprint coverage. The phone refuses to switch to Sprint, even when using the dial codes that is supposed to force it to Sprint (I get an error) I have been working with Google Fi support on this issue since 10/29 and they are now going to file "a ticket with our carrier partner to know the root cause of the services issue". I connected my Pixel 4xl to Fi and it worked as advertised, good LTE coverage at my house on using the Sprint network. Anyone else having that issue?
After two weeks of going back and forth with Google Fi support, the truth comes out. This it the quote from the email that they sent to me.
"I checked with our resources and I am afraid that Pixel 5 does not support Sprint network for talk and texts as of now however, the engineering team is working to fix it.
We do not have any ETA about when this will get fixed but you will be informed when Pixel 5 will support Sprint network. We understand that this is not the resolution you were hoping for, and while we strive to provide an exceptional support experience for all of our customers. You may consider dropping feedback from the Fi app. To do so, follow these steps:"
