I'm trying to sign up for t-mobile tuesdays.
I'm supposed to reply back with an sms short code (a 4 digit number).
It's failing with 'service access denied'.
I'm on the $30/month walmart plan if that makes any difference.
Anyone know what's up with that?
- Frank
Okay, the exact wording of the text message was:
Enter XXXX to start up T-Mobile Tuesdays and #GetThanked
Turns out I'm supposed to enter XXXX into the t-mobile app, not enter XXXX into the sms app as a reply.
So although I don't know what the 'service access denied' thing is all about, I think it's a non issue.

The above error drives me nuts!
I got that popup error everytime I send SMS.
If I click YES, the message will be sent anyway.
I tried all sort of combination of number in the Outlook Contact:
+31624000222
Or 624000222
Or 0624000222
+31 = the country code.
Anyone know why I got that error?
How to fix that?
Thanks
Anyone does not get this problem?
have you tried using 011 (011624000222) instead of the + ? i had to do that when i was living in germany and using t-mobile on my wizard that had wm6 on it.. just a thought ...though adding the 0 in front of the dialed number (0624000222) seemed to work too
Yes, I did that. And it did not work.
Anyway, I gave up and hard reset the device.
I installed everything again and now it is ok, no error popup like that anymore.

After few troubleshoots & hard resets, i finally got the solution:
go to messaging/menu/options/address tab
(in, contacts, get email addresses from) : choose [all e-mail fields].
it will solve ur problem.
i;m having the same prob. the phone can't recognize the country code or something ... when the country code is added to the number the local caller name is not displayed. and if the country code is removed from the number then in SMS the sender name is not displayed as most operators send the numbers with country code in the message headers ... damn !
checking the get address from all fields does work.
i forgot that I had unchecked that the other day..lol
Hi,
I tried doing whats described above but in my case, the phone already had the option "selected all fields" selected. I tried deselecting and selecting it again but in vain...
Any other suggestions??
tx
P.S: I have a samsung omnia
thanks - found this and it appears to work for me. Message was bugging me.
I've had an unlocked G1 for a while now and its been going great. Calls, wifi, tethering, mms, all of it works just fine.
The only issue I'm having is with my voicemail. When I call the AT&T voicemail number, it says it needs more information from me, it then gives me the option to enter the 10 digit number to leave a message, or press pound to access my voicemail. If I try entering my number to leave a message, it says it isn't set up and cannot leave a message. If I hit pound and try to access my voicemail, it says the mailbox number does not exist.
Anybody know how to fix this issue?

Use YouMail. It's really nice, has it's own app and you can personalize messages for everyone in your phonebook.

Thank you for the reply!
I actually had a friend who had an extra invite for Google Voice, so I got signed up for that and am using it for all of my voicemail needs.
Good to hear that your problem is solved.
Remember to edit the title of your new thread with FIXED or SOLVED so people like me don't stop by just to read that you fixed your own problem.

Error invalid number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code.
Anyone else getting this, and has anyone been able to fix it?
I found a site with people having the issue with the iPhone and ATT, among other carriers. I deleted the conversation thread, deleted the contact, rebooted the phone, re-added the contact with the area code, and it is still trying to send the message without the area code. On a new message I can just add the area code, but when the person answers I hve to delete the thread and start a new one in order to reply. Very annoying and only with one person...
No one is getting this? I know what is going on, the phone is removing the area code when said contact responds to my text messages....there has to be someone else getting this Ive tredeverytging

hey im having the same problem, any fix yet? s0o0o0o0o0 annoying.
I am also having this issue. I have tried deleting msgs, contact, rebooting phone, adding contact on the sim and on the phone. I can compose the msg and click the person and it will show 1(XXX)XXX-XXXX and then when i send and go back into the msg it removes the 1(XXX). And leaves the 7 digits. I have had them send me a msg and it will show the complete number but as soon as I go back into the msg it only shows the 7 Digits. I have read that a reset fixes this but surely there is another way. It only does it to one person also.
Seems to be a bug in a particular version of the messaging app, as I had the problem on stock JG6 (?) and not on JM2. I haven't noticed the problem on JM5 (though I haven't used it long) and perhaps it's fixed in JH2? We can only hope!

none of my contacts have a 1 in front.
try that.
To test this from another phone I created a test contact with my own number in it. Saved it to my sim and left the 1 at front of the number. Sent that contact a text message and it came through correctly. Probably doesn't have an issue with the "1" and more likely another problem with the messaging app.
The only time I've ever received that message is when I've accidentally sent a text message to a contacts land-line instead of their cell.
Have you tried adding a + in front of the 1? So your number would be +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx.
Yep tried it

Yes I actually did try adding the + sign and then 1 and the area code and number and I am still receiving the error message.
I've been asking around and nobody seems to know how to dial a number such as 332211. Using a Captivate. When I use the straight dial number it always puts a "-" in the middle 332-211 so the call won't go through. That number is what they call a short code. It's for text messages. I noticed even tv stations have them so you can get text messages about incidents etc.
Thanks

Did you try creating a new contact? Did you try putting *#*# before the number and #*#* after the number?
Thank you for the reply so fast gtg465x. I have tryed the contact create, didn't work. I tryed your *# but when I get to the last #* the phone goes blank. If I hit send the phone goes to the contact list.
like you said its a text message code... like 466453 for texting google...
You need to use your messaging app. not your dialer.
Phone numbers in the US are 7 digits (+area code) not 6.
Use the dialer to make phone calls and the Messaging app for sms texts.
There are also short codes for accessing various settings in the phone that you can enter into the dialer, but those are almost always surrounded by *# like *#06# which will display your IMEI
Hi pietro_spina - Ok that makes sense. However, I don't have a texting service on my phone. I'm trying to use GoogleVoice for texting. After a short search it appears Google isn't set up to let us use 6 digit codes. I tryed it and it doesn't go through. I will keep searching.
Thanks for the answer

If you use the google voice widget (select the text icon... It looks like paper) I have sucess using googles own six digit code. It cant be an empty message though.
The voice widget is part of the google voice app in the market.
P
When you go to google voice then submenu top left is a peice of paper with a pencil on it. Below it says "compose". Is that the one you are talking about? If so I've tryed it and it doesn't work. I did see in one of the reads something about the phone needs to be sms enabled. I wonder if the Captivate can't do it?
It works for me. I dont know what else to say.
I only know one short code. Google search... 466453 put that in the "to" field and as your message type "help" and google will text back some instructions.
Maybe post the short code you are trying to use? Is it some sort of pay code? Google voice might block that sort of thing.
Good Morning pietro_spina - I tryed your 466453 and it worked. It did list as 466-453 in the return message. The one I've been trying is BestBuy 332211 with text of GAMER and it won't go through. Google says error in sent message.
Sorry dude. I guess if they don't have any info about that sort of thing in the google help pages, then you are out of luck I guess.
Why till now HTC still have this issue that contact won't recognise if you just dial the number instead of the full format you save on your contacts. On Samsung and iPhone don't have this issue. Can HTC solve this?
Please refer to the attached picture for more details.

OK.. Example, i saved a contact under phone TEST - +601234567890 , So when i went into phone dialing, i enter 1234567890 the number without country code, it won't recognize or display contact TEST, unless i have to enter +601234567890 full format as what i have saved then it will show.

it works for me eg my contact is saved a +312012345678 and when I dial 02012345 it will show my contact, as far as I know this has worked since my desire days. HTC dialer has always been the best for me, being able to search by first, last name and by number in short and long format (iirc the sgs2 couldn't search by last name)...
(edit, I don't know where you are from but is 12345678 a valid number to dial from a mobile phone, we always have to dial an area code first)

Another number format are friends from Brunei, number format +673 8888888 as +673 country code. Also not showing if i key 8888888, unless 6738888888.
