Wifi calling with Tmobile - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Anyone able to figure out a way to get wifi calling workimg, particularly on T-Mobile?

Nope, all research indicates it's not possible.

I think from a hardware standpoint, it should be possible. Seems the firmware from Xiaomi doesn't support that feature. Would be nice to have that included in the future upgrades.....along with Nougat. Wishful thinking.

I have found over the time I have used non T-Mobile branded phones that this feature often does not work or if it does its spotty at best. Lumia 1520, Honor 8, Huawei Gx8, Huawei Mate 9 and now Mi Mix. All more or less can't use the feature, which I have since the Lumia just about forgot about using anyways

I have the phone, not working completely with Verizon, Of Course! So thinking of switching to TMO but without WiFi Calling it won't work completely at work.

MI5 - Can I Bring It to VZW In The US?

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading the reviews and specs for the MI5 Pro and am considering purchasing one. GSM/CDMA support, 128Gb Storage, etc. sounds great to me.
My plan is to have something with an unlocked BL so I can root, TWRP, and AOSP it just the way I want it.
Before I do how much of a pain will it be to getting working on Verizon's 4G/LTE networks? If I understand what I am reading correctly it supports all the frequency bands on Big Red. Any thoughts? Comments and suggestions are requested on this.
Thanks in Advance
I should also add this is not for the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. I have a monthly plan and am up for a new device but don't want what they offer.
I highly doubt you'll be able to get it to work on Verizon. Even unlocking GSM bands is a pain.

VZW is CDMA. The specs say it supports all the needed bands I just don't know if they are "active" out of the box.

I don't specifically know about verizon, but our local CDMA carriers do work with the Mi5.
Cdma carriers the us only allows approved devices.
No hope.

You can be the guniea pig and try it out but your chances of getting it to work on Verizon are slim to none.

The more I research this the more dim the results look. It seems that the problem with bringing it to a CDMA network is lack of 4G functionality. Definitely a deal breaker for sure......
Verizon only allows approved devices on their network (read: their branded devices). So there's pretty much no chance of your Mi5 (an unapproved, semi-compatible, and untested device as far as they are concerned) getting on the network, as your MEID needs to be in their system for you to connect to their network.
Stick with an actual GSM carrier.

I knew that was how they were in the past but I thought maybe they loosened up on it. They now have a Bring Your Own Device program. Still doesn't get past getting 4G working flawlessly on CDMA.
I need to look deeper at GSM carriers in the US. Coverage in my area is important for work.
I just saw you message and it is a bit late, but I have the Mi5 and use it on Verizon. It is only 3G on that. I can also use both my Verizon Sim card and my AT&T sim at the same time and have two carriers with two different numbers on the same phone. I had to do nothing to get it to work on Verizon other than pop in the sim card. I hope this helps.
Thanks DFSPCC, I was wondering the same thing and having it listed to work with VZN in the US on willmyphonework.net up to 3G speeds, which is fine by me. Considering the low price at the moment for the Mi5, I think is a great option.
Never to late
I'm considering on getting this phone... 5.7 inch with OK specs to work with Verizon only thing is you said 3g but that's OK its just to play and test hopefully I can root it... Don't knkw if they have any Roms for it..... Ive been HTC for over 10 yrs and they have let me down been waiting for a 5.7 or bigger... The max was nice but bad specs realy slow so.... I was going to do the s8 plus but now I see the U12 coming soon. But i don't know if Verizon will carry it... They don't carry the U11 don't know why.... What do you think? And thanks again for your time and help god bless....

Using dual sim n9600 in USA

I am thinking of getting n9600 for use on t-mobile and at&t
Will losing B71 band mean too much of a hassle, or I won't even feel it?
Any ideas?
Anybody here using that. I am gravitating towards that due to dual sim

I'm using n9600 in bay area with simple mobile (tmobile network) and get calls, sms/mms and lte data out of the box.
I didn't have to but i flashed detonator anyway for the wifi calling, Volte and video calling. I don't ever use those but it's nice to know it's there.
Seeing as the N9600 is a Snapdragon device, you should be able to use it in the states without any issues.

The problem is
1. No CDMA
2. Some bands like B71 missing. Am wondering if it won't be too much of a hassle

Misleading and oversimplified statement...there's more to it than simply Snapdragon or Exynos.
I just got one (n9600) for Metro by TMobile. Would love video calling, volte, Samsung pay. Any ideas?

It's going to depend on where you are whether the missing bands are going to be a hassle or not. I live in an almost purely Band71 area so it would be almost useless to me at home, however I travel to areas where it's band 4 so it wouldn't be an issue there. So the question is, where do you plan to use it the most?

VOLTE in US

I was apprehensive to purchase the P30 Pro because I had some troubling experiance with the Mate 20 Pro in the US on T-Mobile with calls and texts. To my surpise I inserted my sim into the P30 Pro and service was great. Even more surprising when I make calls I still have LTE and it connects in 1-2 seconds after dialing. Now I know I dont have a toggle for VOLTE or WIFI calling but keeping data during a call and connecting very fast was never something that happened to me with the Mate 20 Pro. Is anyone else in the US having a similair experiance?

VOLTE is on based on service menu by default. I feel call quality is great with the P30 Pro... I even like the screen as the phone speaker as well. I had the Mate 20 Pro too... didn't have some of the issues you had since I got it later and probably they address most of everything by the time I got it. I do wish T-Mobile would allow WIFI Calling on it... overseas T-Mobile has it enabled... but unfortunately we do not and there's no setting to do so.
Stupid politics to protect Apple is the underlying cause of the whole "Huawei is spying on you for the Chinese Government Conspiracy" Yeah, someone will say there's proof, and I'm like... well, they make great phones and I'm sure no one in China give ZERO F's about my Facebooking, search history, etc. or whatever someone thinks they are spying on... All I know is I hate having to jump through hoops to buy the phones and wish I could just roll down to a best buy or legit on Amazon, buy one and have all the features supported. I mean google, microsoft, apple, etc. all "spy" on their customers... just because I sign an agreement I guess its ok. :silly:
Spying on and telling you in a tiny word 10 page document ok.. :good:
Spying on and not telling you, not ok.. I guess.
I saw some one said intall Tmobile digits in his mate pro 20, then get wifi calling works. However, I cannot got that works on my son's mate 20. I still not make decision to buy p30 pro. Tmobile's signal too weak in my home, I realy on wifi calling too much.

I got poor cell reception here as well so wifi calling helps when using T-Mobile. In Irvine the city does not let telecom providers install Cell Towers so that they force you to buy and pay $100 per moth via COX Cable of which they have a monopoly over. A pretty corrupt city in that sense. If everyone has good reception then people will not pay the extra $100 per month to get internet at their house. The only place you have good coverage is if you live nearby freeway as they are required by law to have cell towers alongside the freeway. Every where in the city you have 1 bar as require by law to make a call in the event of an emergency.

So I started another thread to find out some info from those people with the Canadian variant in the US if there's greater compatibility with TMobile & ATT. What I do know is that the Canadian version VOG-L04 comes in 3 colors: Black, Aurora & Breathing Crystal. You can only get 8GB RAM if you get 256GB storage option. This is also the Latin American Version as well but have not heard anyone getting from mexico or other South / Central American countries yet.
It has Band 66 compatibility making it better especially for ATT folks.
Also, reported but not confirmed with screen captures, etc. is that it is 100% wifi calling enabled. Once again, this is reported but not confirmed. Same would be true for VoLTE
As for the digits workaround, you need to actually use digits app to make calls meaning getting a separate digits number for your phone ($10 per month) and using it to call it through the app connected to wifi. Similar to google voice workaround.

Amazon.ca but haven't see the phone available yet... definitely not the L04... With the short cut and it enabled does wifi calling work actually? I don't believe that it provisions even if enabled. VoLTE maybe a different story although I still have to check to see if it isn't on with the network info app. I'm at work so until I'm done I don't have my phone to check anything but will try later..
what shortcut maker do you use?
Still hoping that someone with a L04 can confirm all these items as well!

IDK if it's actually working. I guess I could try to make a call in airplane mode. Quick shortcut. Any of them would probably work.
There is one option that requires elevation. I may try it on my old mate 9 since that is rootable.

I am very happy with coverage and quality on my P30 Pro with T-Mo, VOLTE does work as well on mine. I have the amazon.de version VOG-L29 Dual Sim, No issues with Dual sim either. Wifi Calling is something that was always hit or miss with me. I do see the slider die it using shortcut maker but as many overseas phone thats a T-Mo issue not on the phone. Now correct me if I am wrong but isnt the model being sold by B&H the same as the other unlocked versions? Or does software have more bands active?

Definitely a TMobile US issue for wifi calling... they just basically need programming in place so when the sim is inserted, it allows provisioning to the Tmobile network. Now they might not be doing this because Huawei is giving them certain information but more likely has to do with Huawei not being sold in the US officially due to the supposed "spying" Applegate.... Not enough Huawei phones in the US otherwise to waste the time to have provisioning built in for the US.
More proof for the pudding... Apple who has been fighting with Qualcomm over whether or not they "stole" technology (doesn't that sound familiar?) agreed to a new contract because there was no other alternative for Apple to get 5G chips for their phones other than Huawei. Doing so would have meant opening Huawei back to the US and being major competition for Apple... so what does Apple do, throw some money around, make their Qualcomm problem go away overnight and still have their foothold on the necks of the US phone market... Trust me, if Xiaomi starts becoming more popular, they'll be the next one accused of spying... all to protect the almighty Apple...
So unless the general dissolution with Huawei stops... really, all smartphone companies and cell providers "spy" on their customers... wifi calling won't be viable... just have to workaround with digits or google voice

TMobile volte

Hello,
I happen to live in an area that only has lte coverage so this phone doesn't work for me as volte doesn't work. Which I don't understand why Asus would disable it. I hear this garbage how the carriers have to support it, but why did my previous phone Huawei p30 pro imported from Germany worked fine on TMobile with volte? I would think a phone that isn't even sold here wouldn't work but it does. So I ask why is Asus so stupid and can this be fixed if I root the phone?
Which firmware do you have? I've heard the CN firmware works with VoLTE. Eventually I'm hoping we can build a custom rom to fix all these issues. I guess if you really need to, you can use the T-mobile Digits app as a temporary workaround.

Volte on cn rom only in other countries. Forget about volte in us.
well I don't really use my phone all that much as a phone. And text works just fine so I guess that is going over LTE. I think At&T has 3g where I am. Do they have like a prepaid sim I can get that has like 1000 minutes so I can make outbound calls sometimes? I could then just put that in the second sim slot and go with that. I don't receive inbound calls so I don't care much for that they are all scams nowadays.

Does the Exynos Note 9 Work With Verizon now?

Please someone tell me if they've tested it yet. CDMA isn't a requirement anymore so should work?
It has to have band 12 for Verizon.
Sorry for the thread necromancy, but there are very few decent replies to this question, so I figured I'd answer it as thoroughly as possible from my own experience.
I imported an SM-N960F (Exynos) from the UK to use on Verizon, and I can tell you with certainty: on the stock rom, it's a plug-and-play experience. Just about everything works without hassle. You may have to look at the APN settings and manually select "VZWINTERNET," but mine auto-selected the right one out of the box. Phone calls work without issue using VoLTE. Same for data. I've noticed that it often tunes to different LTE bands than my old SM-N960U Snapdragon did, and it doesn't seem to do carrier aggregation as often, but the real-world speeds are just about the same between the two. If you live in an urban area with many different bands available, you might see slightly lower data speeds from the Exynos model, but I doubt it'll ultimately make much day-to-day difference.
All the other ancillary features work too, like Samsung Pay and the other Knox apps, as well as tethering and Google Pay, etc. The only thing that doesn't seem to work on Exynos that did work on Snapdragon is wifi calling; I see no option for it in the dialer app. I just use Google Voice in such situations, but if you rely on that feature...be warned, I guess.
Overall, though, I see no reason why anyone should buy a US-variant phone for use on Verizon any more. With the sunsetting of CDMA, it's pretty clear that international devices with unlocked bootloaders will work perfectly fine going forward. I plan to put custom roms on mine, and continue using my Note 9, with its headphone jack, iris scanner, and notch-less display, for as long as the community continues to support it.
As a final note: one thing I have noticed is that many roms for the Exynos Note 9 mention that VoLTE isn't supported, due to a proprietary Samsung implementation on these phones. This might present a problem to Verizon users, given that that's the only real way to make phone calls on these devices. Again, I tend to use Google Voice for almost all of my telephony needs...but if you're buying this phone for custom rom-ing purposes as I did, it's something to keep in mind.
