A few days ago I started getting this message on my diamond that says:
DataBase Update Check
It may cost you data connection fee to check if new database update for Connection Setup. Would you like to proceed?
How do I get rid of this message?
Updating?...
Not sure if this is the same thing but have you tried:
Start/settings/connections/connection setup/menu - then untick "Enable Auto Configuration"
Again, no idea but it was just a thought.

Yeah, forgot to mention.
It has 2 options; Yes and No.
I choose yes, and it comes back again in 3-4 minutes.

Just tried this to no avail
I have been getting the same thing for the last 3 days, since coming back from holiday abroad, and it's very annoying, I never got that before, I thought it had something to do with the fact that i'd been roaming, but i see that other people are starting to get it at about the same time, could it be a network thing?
I've got the same issue since a couple of days... it's really annoying!
Is there a solution yet?
Same Issue with automatic update
I also got this issue since a couple of days! I have already stated it here but also still no answer yet.

Any support is highly appreciated!
I had this like 12 times while driving for 2hrs and using tomtom, the message would pop up over tomtom and take several presses to get it to disappear then often dumping me back to the HTC start page forcing me to faff with menus while driving to get tomtom back up, by the end of the trip i was nearly ready to throw the phone under the next lorry that passed me on the motorway
Really pi**ed off with this one
Hi,
I have same problem and it started when I proceed connection setup application. Now when I update weather or make a phone call that same note apears database update check.....
I did try soft reset also no help.. Any solved this problem?
Same here, pops up over my TomTom while driving - really annoying!
It happens every time I make a call.
Isn't there any one who knows how to get rid off this message?
Seems like this message pops up each time you try to connect to EDGE. So anytime the weather updates this message pops up. Very annoying!
Same problem here for at least one month already...
I performed a hard reset of my phone, it seemed to be ok, but since i installed Windows Live application, and set Hotmail to check emails once an hour, it has reappeared. Really annoying thing. Looks like everyone has been affected by it and it has only been happening for a few weeks. Something must have happened to trigger it on everyone's phones. We need to get to the core of it. I have been through all my Connections Settings trying to find a way to turn it off, but couldn't find anything yet. It would be great to get rid of this annoyance.
What ROM do you have? I have DUttys 3.1....
i get this on dutty 3.3. think its only started popping up recently. im on o2 in uk
I'm on Dutty's 3.5 (I think). Will revert back to Swiftblade's during the weekend, I'll post my findings then.
and I am on duttys 3.3, could this be connected to duttys rom?
I've also got Dutty's 3.3 ROM but have had it working fine before this message started coming up. I'm on T-mobile UK.
Hi all
My head's getting a bit sore from banging it against a brick wall while trying to sort my phone out, and I was hoping someone might be able to help me.
I did a ROM flash to Dutty's latest about 1 month ago, and all worked fine. At some point afterwards, I did *something* (possibly running the Connection Setup Wizard - don't ask!), and I lost the ability to get internet transfers over Orange (UK) - mail would just tell me it can't retrieve the messages (check the settings blah blah), and Opera just gave me a Network Error page.
Now, I've chatted with Orange lots, deleted all connection settings and played around with various settings and I'm pretty confident I have that right. On demand (i.e. starting mail or Opera), I can see the session establishment (i.e. the arrows moving over the G or 3G or H marker on the title bar), and the Data Connection indication is set in Comms Manager, but I still can't get transfers.
Note that I have since reflashed the same ROM a couple of times, and both times I have successfully had the internet working for up to about 2 or 3 days, then it goes again. When it does go, I get the Database Update Check appearing almost every time a session is established. I originally put the patch in place to stop this happening, but was worried that might be causing the networking problems so didn't since reflashing the rom this latest time.
WiFi works OK - I'm using a static IP address but I don't think this is causing a problem with GPRS/3G comms.
So, I'm thinking there might be some setting on the phone that I keep changing somehow (not intentionally) which is breaking the routing between Orange and Windows.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm losing it a bit here, as it used to work fine all the time and now it seems to just stop!
Cheers for any help
Rich
Soft Reset
Does a soft reset fix your problem?
I get this from time to time, i soft reset and all is ok again.
I also get orange safeguard on some sites every now and then even though its switched off.
Nope, once it's gone it's gone. Very strange. Still trying to figure this out, as it's driving me nuts!
Still, it's a good excuse to try out some different ROMs!

i had this a wile back and all of a sudden it just started working again
SOLUTION
If anyone's interested, I found a solution to this and I thought I'd share it.
The problem is due to an issue with 2.03 ROM as far as I can tell (I had Dutty's v4 on the phone) and static ip address on WiFi.
IF you use static ip over WiFi, then when you enter the ip address etc for the WiFi network adapter, it appears to try and use these settings on the GPRS connection too. This is why, when I spoke to Orange, as far as they were concerned everything was working OK.
So, the session establishes to Orange, then I request a page and it try's to use my DNS (192.168.1.1) to resolve the address - all goes wrong at that point. No web, no mail, nothing.
To solve, simply remove the settings from the WiFi adapter.
There may be a better solution to this, but I'm just happy I can have my phone back working again!!!

I recently flashed my Tilt/Kaiser/TyTnII to the Hyperdragon 3.. Everything worked great, and life was good. Within the last two weeks something happened and I can no longer access any page in the IE browser. My email and google maps still work, but every page I go to says 403 forbidden, you are not authorized to view this page. I tried calling ATT, but they stepped me through a process and got stuck when they asked me to go to Programs>>Tools>> Proxy manager. The problem being the new rom doesnt have a tools menu under programs... Am I missing something? Also all the posts Ive read say to reset my proxy by following that same link...
PLEASE HELP THE ROOKIE! I need my Internet back!!!
Also, I have seen posts of people getting 2-3 days of charge out of there phones??? What am I doing wrong??? Even before the ROM flash I was lucky to get a day, usually only 1/2 to 3/4... I do receive at least 15 emails (usually closer to 40), send roughly 50 texts a day, and probably talk on it somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-5 hours... I use it ALOT for work... so is my battery life reasonable?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Well, as for the forbidden error, I'm as clueless as you. Did you try a hard reset? However, as for the battery question, I use my Tilt a ton to surf the MEdia Net, and I get about a day out of it. If you are using the device for that much stuff, I would think that your battery life is normal. And I hear if you have Push Email enabled, your battery life will be even worse. Hope that helps you.
Dave
I'm lucky if i get a day out of my tilt. I text heavily, recieve about the same amount of emails, talk about average but surf the web extensively! If you want to save battery life then i'd suggest limiting your push peak and off peak hours under the activesync settings and maybe start disabling 3g/hsdpa when not browsing the web.
as for your problem with PIE. Although other apps are accessing the net fine i'd suggest going to start-settings-connections tab on bottom, then connections icon. Once thats open select the advanced tab on the bottom then select networks. Whats selected in the first drop down box? My ISP or Media Net? Whichever it is (i'm using media net) go through the settings and make sure they're right.
another suggestion would be do get the removehiddenproxy.cab and restorehiddenproxy.cab Search for them on this forum. First try removing the hidden proxy, exit completely out of PIE (go to task manager in settings-systems tab on bottom then task manager to see if its still running in the background) and disconnect your data connection (tap on the E, H, or 3G icon on the top and click on disconnect in the bubble that appears). Then open up PIE and try to load a site.
BTW when the rep told you to go to Programs->tools->Proxy Manager, the proxy manager folder is supposed to have the restorehiddenproxy.cab and removehiddenproxy.cab that i've mentioned.
Hope this helps you and gets you closer to your solution.
update: Here are the links for the restore hidden proxy and remove hidden proxy
i have been having the same problem, usually it self resolves. I currently have two Tilts. on mine, when i encounter this error, i click on the large 3G icon in the upper toolbar and disconnect from the network. then i reconnect by navigating to the website i was trying to get to. this normally works on my device...however, on my wife's this procedure did not work. after 45 minutes with AT&T customer service, it was narrowed down to a bad SIM. I swapped SIMs and the problem occurred on my device with her SIM in place and her device worked fine with my SIM. AT&T suggested i get a new SIM.
Hope this helps

Hi there,
I'm using my own 6.5 (custom) Rom (Build 23004). I use an hosted exchange
server for Direct Push. Syncing is working well without any errors. But sometimes
it just looses the connection and Active Sync tells me: "Last synchronized: ...".
Then i hit Synchronize and it stays connected for some time again.
This happens to me since a long time, I can't remember if this happened to me
using 6.1 Builds. But as far as I know I didn't get this issue using the stock Rom.
This issue is really annoying as WiMo doesn't even notify me about loosing the
connection, and then even "check email every X minutes works better.
Does anyone know a solution? I don't like to get back the "ugly" stock Rom.
P.S: I read some guys using a Tilt had this issue as well, if not using the AT&T
stock Rom, but the HTC one.
Edit: In the Attachment is the Active Sync log. Disconnect was at 10:35. Don't know if this helps.

For some time now I use 6.5 ROMs together with hosted Exchange and the problem you discribe hasn't occured to me once (been using 6.5 builds for about 3 months now).
Have you contacted your hosting provider? Maybe it's a setting in Exchange that causes the disconnect.
Not yet, I didn't think it was related to them. I'll write them a mail tomorrow, too late right now. A good input.
At least I know right now the problem isn't related to wm6.5 custom Roms.
Thanks for your answer.
Alright, I'm getting closer now.
Just taping "Synchronize" doesn't reestablish the connection. The last time the
error was probably related to bad signal (more later).
Yesterday evening the connection was lost again. It happened at 20:40. I
noticed it at about eleven o'clock and see there was no data connection. I
told active sync to synchronize, but it took twice until it finally established a
data connection. Syncing didn't work either. So I tried to access the web using
Opera, but no page was loaded, it just showed me the white screen, no error
message.
So, I turned the Phone on and off in Comm Manger, then it was working again.
I checked the log and it gave this line:
#2009-07-18 21:02:26.0000 AutdPing Ping received. HR = 85020003
At 21:02, there was the first sync attemp after the sync at 20:40.
The error code 85020003 tells me there is something wrong with the data
connection (conn mgr).
In Active Sync I get the error code 0x80072efd which is also related to
network problems.
So the problem is more complex I originally thought.
I'm really confused right now. Please, somebody got an advice?
Googled a bit trying to figure out what the error code means, some state you need to uncheck the proxyserver checkbox in your advanced connection settings. Others say uncheck the use SSL connection in your activesync settings. But none seem to be a conclusive solutions for everyone, so you can a least try.
Will try to find more....

Thanks for your commitment Lokatho.
I've been searching a lot, but didn't find anything that seems to be related to my problem.
I think this behaviour isn't related to Active Sync actually. It rather seems to be a
problem with the connection. All articles I found only describe errors coming from Active
Sync itself.
The weired thing is that toggling the Data Connection on/off doesn't help. My device
won't connect to the Internet any more (using 3G/GPRS). Only disabling and reenabling
the phone makes it work again. The error only appears after hours of usage up to a day
or more.
Seems like I need to return to stock rom for further investigation soon.
PS: Didn't contact my hosting provider as I'm moving to a better (cheaper, more storage, exchange 2007 instead of 2003) one right now, let's see.
Alright, I think I found the solution. I disabled HSDPA/HSUPA as my phone
only wanted to connect to my carrier data connection if this option was unused.
Now I turned it on again, my data connection was still working, and the issue
seems to be gone! Now I have to wait further (working for 2 days now). I'm
really happy now it's gone. Remember this if your running into strange
problems with your data connection
I have my P10 now since Christmas and I am very happy with it, but there is one pet peeve with it:
Whenever I wake up in the morning the wifi isn't working anymore. It shows as active and I got a couple of notifications and messages, but apps like Whatsapp having the "Waiting for WiFi Connection for BackUp" message.
I already checked the App Manager if it stops Whatsapp in standby, but it doesnt stop any apps.
Is there anything else that could block wifi when the device isnt used in a longer period?
P10 wifi for Me works as expected, a lot better that S6. Try to flash latest FW, factory reset device, if problem still exists after that take it to service center.
