It's probably possible, but it wouldn't work.

In my opinion everything is possible with the right "CODE" and that is attached to a human memory with very smart neurons!
From what I saw there I'm assuming that the memory hard drive or card GB is internal to the board ? I want to replace the 32GB with a 64 GB card or whatever these HP tablets have . I don't want to get into un-soldering and soldering though .... Thanks

Everything is integrated. If you want to expand storage you can use an OTG Micro USB HUB an attached a USB 64GB flash drive, it will be bulky but works!

That would work ? that would be great if it can . I would like to place movies onto the usb flash drive and play off it, So you saying it can work ? Thanks
Of course it works, you can play movies directly from the USB flash drive. You will need to supply power to the USB drive, connected by wire or using a Power Bank.

Is a Micro USB Port, is the same as your charger. The one that you connect to your Tablet. Search and do some reading on how it works, is very simple but you have to understand how all comes together, there is information on this site also.
Once you have Android install on your tablet, it works the same as others Android or Tablet Devices.
I finally got a OTG Micro USB straight cable, usb on one end and micro on the other, try it out and nothing happens, is there a setting with the tablet that needs to be turn on or off ? thanks

Its ......Kitkat .... Android 5.1.1 version and cm-11-20161219-NIGHTLY-MLQ-tenderloin .... This is very stable ... Thanks
The ROM that you are using is from the Developer Milaq.
I installed the latest Nightly dated December 26 of 2016, of the ROM you are using.
https://milaq.net/downloads/tenderloin/cm-11.0/
After a fresh installed I connected the OTG Micro USB HUB, then connected the HP Touchpad cord charger to the OTG and finally the USB flash drive ( SanDisk Cruzer Glide 16GB). You will noticed that the USB flash indication light starts flashing and a notification on the Left top side on Android tells you ( USB Storage in USE ). Then you go to the File Manager and you will see USB Storage, when you touch it you will see all the files on the USB flash drive and you can play your movies directly from there at the same speed as if were on the internal storage. When you are done, go to setting and storage and eject the USB Flash drive. Is very simple!

I don't see nothing since nothing happens once I connect it, though if I use the cable to connect to my computer I am able to see the tablet internal drive, but not to a flash drive from tablet to flash . This is why I was asking what's exact cable type for this tablet port . I'm thinking it isn't the correct one . There so many different sizes out there. Thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated
I sent you the link to Amazon of the OTG.

Yes, I did view it but the type that goes into the tablet isn't listed . I bought one already that I assume is the correct size but with these micro usb connectors there is many different types, do you understand what I'm trying to say . Pic below is what I'm using

And for the second time this is the OTG cable that I have, which I posted the link : https://www.amazon.com/Adaptor-Powered-Charging-Charger-Connector/dp/B00LTHBCNM/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1486568545&sr=8-31&keywords=micro+usb+otg If you look at the specification of how it works it tells you is a "Micro Usb HUB Adaptor with Power Powered"
The HP touchpad or old devices do not offer power to the micro usb port, you need a Y adapter one to supply power to the USB flash drive and the other one for data.
That is why I said, do some research to understand the connection, which it clearly shows on the Amazon product.
Oh ok now I got you it also needs power to make it work, the tablet alone isn't good enough . See, I was hoping just a simple connector going into the tablet Micro and have on the other end usb female connector were by I could plug in a flash stick without power needed . Thanks for all your help

That will work with devices that allow power out from the charging port. The work around for old devices is the Y connector, with the connector I posted you can use a USB Keyboard, a USB mouse and a USB flash drive all at once, turning a tablet into a regular desktop PC. Like I posted your ROM will work and you can play movies directly from the USB drive with no loss in performance, with only your basic ROM nothing else is need it.
You are very welcome and have fun!

Curious if there is a way to hook up either a flash drive or an external hard drive through the usb port on a rooted nook color?
Since the underlying OS is Linux I don't know why. Don't you just need to know what mount point to use?
Homer
I guess I am just curious about power, like if it will power a flash drive or an external hard drive with/without a power supply. The mount point would be great too

Internal power for an external drive might be a bit much to ask, considering that to charge the nook in the first place takes a special cord with extra power. Should be enough for say a standard USB flash drive with the right adapter though. No idea if that is the right one, but you get the idea.
Homer
I was thinking about this today. I was wondering if I could use a SD card with say pictures or video and one of those usb card readers like the one included with this SD card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...208516&cm_re=transcend-_-20-208-516-_-Product
Anyone out there have a powered USB hub, they used to be common as dirt. I suspect if you connected tablet to hub and drive to hub you could create a way to do this with some creative thinking. Assuming the ful usb driver stack is in android/book rom it should work with the right mount commands. It all depends on the drivers though, usually usb stacks use different drivers for being targets like the book is in usb mode, rather than for mounting other devices as targets.. it's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure there would be much of a benefit, it might prove to be slower than USB mode since the book CPU would be doing all the work.

You need a USB Host to go cable - they are pretty cheap off of ebay.
USB hard drives don't always work - at minimum you will need a powered hub.

i know wht USB on the means but how do i enable it. i have tried connecting with a pendrive with the help of the USb on the cable but it does not show .
Once you plug your on the cable in the phone will inform you that usb connecter s connected. Whatever you plug in at the other end of otg cable work run unless it is not supported.

Just plug it in and look in My files. It will show as usbstorage.
I have an official samsung OTG cable, it works fine on the SGS2, but doesn't appear on the Galaxy Note under usbstorage.
Anyone else out there having similar problems?
i had grab some ebay OtG but after unmount and remove the OTG it causes wakelock which drain alot of juice.
I am also facing problems with OTG . when i plug in the cable thr is not msg nor anything happens in phone. please could any one tell me how to enable it may be with kernel or custom rom or may be anything else.
I also want to know this as well,I have spent considerable time yesterday trying to make this work but no luck at all,I would appreciate if someone could help,as I have seen a video in this forum where the guy was able to.connect a mouse to it stating that it is supported out of the box.
I was able to get it to work with a pendrive and a mouse with no problems, but I couldn't get a keyboard or my 2.5" external drive to mount.
Details:
My OTG cable was from DealExtreme for $2.30 or something.
My pendrive was FAT32 formatted.
My mouse was a basic $10 optical one.
My 2.5" external was NTFS, which probably goes some way to explaining why it didn't work even when I gave it some extra power from my desktop PC too.
My keyboard was a standard USB. I also tried a Logitech keyboard with a wireless USB dongle but that didn't work either.
I watched a whole film off my pendrive with no issues. I messed around with the mouse a bit, but the cursor moved too slowly for my taste and the scroll wheel didn't scroll webpages, which is half the reason I'd plug a mouse in anyway.

If you get no message when the cable is plugged in on it's own, chances are it is a problem with the cable. I bought a cable of Ebay which didn't work, so I bought a different one and that did.

Am I supposed to do something else? Or does the USB-stick have to be in some special format?

It could be the USB-sticks are trying to draw too much power. The Nook host port will only supply low power USB devices (<100mA) and it is also best to have a fairly well charged battery. Some sticks work and others don't.
If you have a powered USB hub then this supplies the power so there is no problem. So try with a powered hub to at least see if that is the issue.

You need an external hub ( powered or non-powered ) to work with the sandisk cruzer.

I think that is only an adaptor, so you should patch kernel to enable host mode; but afaik that patched-kernel works only on froyo rom..
That cable works BUT, you need a power source to actually have the OTG working. Look for some Y cable. The Y cable should look like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-MALE-TO...ultDomain_0&hash=item337569b063#ht_500wt_1413
Except instead of mini usb end, you need female usb end.
you plug one end of the usb to phone and the other one to any usb power source.
You need the Y cable since Incredible S doesn't provide any power out from its microusb port, unlike the sgs2.
Of course you need to have a ROM that have the OTG capable kernel, I think those ICS should work, since OTG should be enabled on all ICS kernels.

Well, most people doesn't use flash drives these days, you can always use some online storage like dropbox etc, or email it to you.
The limitation of the system is the fat32, fat32 will not allow any file to be bigger than 4gb in 1 chunk, so you can't copy a whole hd movie out of someone's flash drive. And most flash drive now is 16gb+ and formatted in NTFS out of the box. All 3.5 external hdd is self powered, which makes it possible for you to read it from your device, but the chances of that drive is formatted in fat32 is really slim.
So yea, its a good thing to have but I think think its that usable though.

hi everyone,
i'd like to use the iodiak v10 kernel because it has the usb to go feature.
I need this feature to build a module for the pcan-usb-adapter. i need it for my bachelor's degree.
i updated my stock p-880 to cm 10.1.3 stable cause the stock system lagged horribly.
it worked without any problems. but after that i tried to install the iodiakx3_v10_cm kernel and it stuck on the lg logo so i switched back to cm kernel.
i alwas wiped all the caches.
since i cant write in the suitable developer thread, i hope i get here some help.
thanks in advance
ray
If it was for my degree, I'd get a real OTG-supporting device. What we have here is a hack and it's not stable enough IMO.

well it's worth a try ... if it's working i'd be happy because i can save money and i dont have to wait until the company provides me with one (this takes time and i have only 1/2 semester to finish it ).
the problem is, there are no reports on the original kernel thread that v10 has installing issues so i assume only i do something wrong.
initially i wanted to use EternityProject Kernel 3.4.37 but sadly its dead.

its kind of confusing
1) echo 1 > /sys/kernel/otg_mode/otg_enable
2) connect phone to power (charger or USB)
3) unplug charger, connect OTG cable and then connect device to it (like USB mouse)
4) plug OTG male cable to power (USB or charger)
after device (mouse) is working you can disconect OTG male from power it will still work

Yes, you need a USB Y-cable with external power support. After it you can disable external power, but it is needed in the first place.

i've used otg with y usb host cable and it worked.
this is short summary:
1. have your phone with you but not connected to charger
2. change the line from 0 to 1
3. plug in charger, and unplug it
4. plug in your otg y cable, and then plug in your mouse/usb stick*
5. plug in the y cable into computer/charger
6. unplug it after you confirm the mouse/stick working
*
in case of using usb stick, you gotta mount the storage after you plug it in. there are several apps that should be able to do this on the market, so check them out (i used stickmount)

thanks both of u.
today i learned USB Y-Cable != Powered USB Hub.
i tought the outcome of both solutions would be the same but i was wrong (a work mate explaind it in short to me).
i guess i cant hide myself of reading the otg specifications.
i made a usb y-cable myself and tried the steps with it but it also didn't want to function.
i wanted to provide pictures of my selfmade cable but it seems the pictures are corrupt (cant transfer them from handy to comp, i try it later again).
just to make shure i did it the right way.
here in short what i did:
- opend carefully a usb extension without damaging the small wires in it.
- soldered a male usb plug to : shield, red, black ( didnt do anything to white & green).
- no wire or shield of the extension were cut trough, only carefully opend.
i tested it so far only with a mouse & keyboard, but the usb stick will soon follow.
maybe there are issues with the cm-nightly ? -just a guess-
but i will later try Flying_Bear's steps to make shure i didnt miss smthing.
