Hey guys.
I got a note 4 and was going to transfer all my files from my old phone to this using shareit app that basically creates a personal hotspot to transfer files.
Now the problem is I cannot transfer any files.Shareit can't turn on wifi hotspot. Also wifi hotspot can't be activated without having a sim card.
I use shareit alot and sometimes play games with my friends using Lan so I really want it to work.
And I'm on latest epk2 and rooted.

If you have xposed installed you can grab( x tether) module from xposed downloads and activate it then reboot.
This will unlock hotspot permanently like international model. By the way hotspot cannot be activated without SIM card otherwise it will greyed out.
Thanks i will try that
Edit : Thanks that worked.

Hello
I had PDANet+ on my phone but then I had to do a complete factory restore.
Any, PDANet+ does not work now.
What is another Tethering app.
My S4 is rooted.
Thanks.
I would also like to know what WiFi tethering apps are working because the app I used on my HTC isn't working and all others I try all day they started with errors and nobody can connect.

I just picked up another Z1 for myself after my wife took the other one ( . Like last one I updated to the latest FW.
I have strange wifi issues where my Z1 wont work on wifi - i mean it connects to the router but no interenet at all. Google Play store and spotify seems to connect to the internet but I can not browse any websites.
Also on a room with a wifi repeater even Google Play store doesnt work. I have tried restoring to factory settings and whatnot and still I am unable to browse on wifi using chrome. When I try to setup a hotspot using iPhone and then browse - everything seems to work then.
All other devices such as iPhone 5 and Z10 work just fine. Should I return the phone or is there a work around ?
Do you have any security software? I found kaspersky did this to me by changing the proxy on wifi

Hi,
I'm currently having difficulties with WiFi hotspot on my HTC One. I really like this phone, however I am THIS CLOSE to selling it. I've had HTCs in the past and the hotspot function was never an issue with these previous phones.
I am running MaximusHD 20.0.0
The WiFi hotspot OCCASIONALLY works with security disabled, however even then it is very tempermental
I usually appear to have connected (showing up as a connected device on the phone end) however it never seems to show full connection on the PC end (i.e. limited connection and no internet access or connecting times out altogether)
I have tried with multiple computers with no success
Any ideas? Appreciate the help in advance.
Cheers,
Dave
Does anyone have any ideas for trouble shooting? Is anyone else facing the same issue? Can anyone else report their WiFi hotspot working without any issues at all?
Works just fine for me, try it with another ROM (I'm ARHD), and try using the stock hotspot setting found in "more" category of your settings. Also, your carrier may be blocking it.

Is this an extra feature that you have from your carrier? Or do they not know you're tethering? Or you have the wifi hotspot as part of the regular usage for your plan?
Have you tried the google weireless tether apk instead of the stock wifi hotspot?
Is there a tethering guard.apk in your system apps?

Thanks for the replies people.
I was on ARHD and had issues there as well. Also I only ever use the stock WiFi hotspot, the HTC one.
I'm with BOOST Mobile, a MVNO on the Telstra Australia network. I have been informed on a local forum that tethering is not restricted with our plan/deal, so there should be NO issue from the network end. Mobile internet works without any problems.
I'll have to look at that, the Google Wireless Tether apk, hadn't thought of that, will report back.
What is that? I had a look through the ALL APPS section in settings and couldn't see anything like that, tethering guard apk...

EDIT: USB tethering is also not working. Is that significant?

Could it have anything to do with my firmware version NOT matching the ROM I am currently using?
As an update:
It appears that going S-Off and upgrading firmware to match my ROM (now on InsertCoin latest) has fixed the issue. Will report in detail once I can test properly.

I recently rooted my galaxy note 1 and installed a ram booster app which required root access. Now my note no longer auto connects to saved wifi network. It just notifies of available connections. And I have to manually select the network to connect each time. I disabled the ram booster and also uninstalled it. It doesn't work. I also pulled the battery, sim card for a good 3 mins, but still doesn't work. Someone please help?

I searched, but couldn't find tips for what needs to be removed from a CM11 build to make a phone WiFi-only.
I have an old HTC Vivid I want to use as a datalogging device in my race car. It doesn't have a SIM and will never be on a 3G/4G network again. I do, however, want to be able to turn-on the WiFi hotspot feature so that I can transfer files to/from the phone using my laptop without having to plug it in; or have a WiFi router present.
I tried JellyBelly's script, but I keep getting a phone.apk FC. If I turn on airplane mode, the FC's stop. So, then I turned on WiFi. But, with WiFi turned on in airplane mode, the hotspot feature is grayed out.
So, I'd like to make a custom CM11 build for WiFi only. Is it possible? Any pointers to a how-to thread?
I suspect that maybe the Hotspot feature only works with a cellular network connection. I hope not...

To make it WiFi only, go to Settings and turn off the data and turn on WiFi
To connect your phone and computer, the best way I have found is WiFi File Explorer Pro. It is not free, but the free version limits the transfers.
This will work on any smartphone.

That's actually what I'm using. But, that only works if there's an existing WiFi network to connect to. I also want the phone to host a WiFi hotspot/network.
