Can I change the battery myself - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my Nexus' battery has gotten deteriorated after so much usage. I used Accubattery to find out the rating and it showed 2500 mAh after a full charge, which I think is pretty bad. The problem is that there are is no Nexus market where I live. Even the local phone shops say they cant change it. So I was thinking about ordering the battery online and doing it myself. But sadly, the battery is internal and I have no experience whatsoever with electronics. Has anyone changed the battery themselves? What do you think I should do.

Pretty easy, if you buy a new one, don't buy a cheap replacement

Do you where i can find an original replacement online? Thanks (Dont know a lot about online ordering)

I guess eBay or Amazon, try to find a original one. May someone's here who already replaced one. I replaced it on my older phones, my nexus 6 battery is still good

I replaced mine a month ago. Not to difficult. The back cover is held on with double sided tape. Then 23 crazy small screws to remove. Thankfully they are all the same size. The 2 connectors to unclip from the main board and the mid frame hinges off from the top. The battery is glued onto the mid frame and the Qi charging coil is stuck on the battery. Carefully peel it off and put it on the new battery. Pay close attention to where you put it back as the connector end of the charging coil has to align with pads on the board. The replacement was bendable, and needed some tweaking to fit properly.
It took me about 45 minutes to complete.

Where did you purchase it from? I'm looking to replace mine too, but from the reviews I found many of them fail after a short period of time. Others lack reviews altogether. None of the Amazon listings look good to me and I don't know how legit the eBay ones are because it doesn't have reviews for specific products derived from specific sellers. The top two that seem the most legit to me are this eBay listing and Repairs Universe, from which I can't tell how legit it is.
Here's how mine held up today. I unplugged it at six this morning before I left for school and got home roughly an hour ago, so this is very close to not cutting it for me, especially on days where I'd have work in addition to school.

Got it on Amazon it was described as an OEM. Picked it out, screenshot to the GF, and it ended up under the Christmas tree.?

What battery did you end up getting? I see Repairs Universe... and Amazon as good places, but I don't want a bum battery.

I nearly stripped several screws using the larger Torx T4 driver recommended in this video instead of the T3 that fits these screws perfectly. I bought the replacement battery & T3 driver from eBay.

Spare Battery

I ordered a spare battery from Expansys, but when it was delivered it came without the silver 'holding clip' that pins it in place inside the unit. Expansys have since changed the description to warn people that the clip doesn't come with it, but no one (HTC included) can tell me what to do without it. I have rung HTC who have 'escalated' the issue a higher level, but still no response, other than not to take the clip off the original battery (which I can't see how to do without breaking it anyway). Does anyone here have any information?

I also ordered an extra battery. Can't remember where from and not at a place where I can check. My spare battery didn't come with the metal clip either. I've used it in my phone without issues. I guess after reading your post I'll need to contact the vendor and determine my options. It's apparent that the clip holds the battery secure within it's space. There are little holes on the board below the battery which the pin "latches" to.
Paul, As I see it there could be one of two issues here as the clip not only locs the battery in place but is a useful grip to get it out.
The first is that the battery compartment door may be a bit flimsy and pop-open if the battery 'shoogles' about causing loss of connection on the power contacts. On mine the battery compartment fits reasonably well and the battery seems quite tight in place so probably not the problem though a bit of insulating tape could solve that if it was. (though constant changing of batteries would probably gum up the outside with tape residue.)
Second more likely issue I think is that the battery has no physical means of ejection so you might find it difficult to get out without the metal clip.
An old trick I learnt here from a PDA that didn't have an eject mechanism for compact flashes is to take a piece of sticky tape pobably about 3cm long in this case. Fold over the last half centimetre. Stick the tapealong the battery with just the folded (and now non-sticky) bit hanging over the front edge that is exposed when the door is open. Now when you slide the battery in you have a little tab that will allow you to pull the battery back out.
Only downside is if the battery temp warms up enough to loosen the adhesive so use at your own risk!! ;o)
so at the mo there's no way in getting a spare and useful battery?
i need one!
very poor, htc! thx.

On that front, you can get one which has a capacity of 5400mAh:

But only 1700mah (main battery is 2200mah).
Spare battery with clip
In UK I bought a second 2200 battery with clip for £29 from Clove Technology (www.clove.co.uk). Expensive? Not really, it included a VGA desktop cradle which includes all the connectors that you get on the 4 in 1 cable plus a slot for charging a second battery.

Where to buy OEM replacement battery for our Athenas?

my OEM battery is a goner, due natural aging.
got 2 after market ebay batteries, they sucks big time, they were fine for the first 2~3 weeks, but now one of them died already
the plastic casing they come in, are made of poor material, and broke down already after your regular swap in/out of a daily normal use.
i want to get some OEM battery for our device, but i can not find it anyways, even the ones sold on those "trusted" e-stores are the fake replicas from the same sources of ebay.
they do not have the latch for the red button, and the 3 teeth pin is made of plastic instead of metal.
i want to keep using my device, but it wont last much longer without a decent battery.

I see that you are in Canada....do you have a Batteries Plus store (or equivalent) near you? A while back, I was able to get one from them by using the part number from the battery that is now 2 1/2 years old and works perfectly!

Back cover replacing

About a month ago my N4 dropped down and broke the back cover glass, so I ordered this one on ebay from a german store (I live in Italy) for a total amount of €.53,90.
It is ready to be assembled onto the phone and includes NFC antenna and (I think) the Bluetooth one.
Today it is been delivered and I've just replaced.
This is a very easy operation, only require a n 4 torx screwdriver and a plastic pad (a guitar pad is optimal).
With only those tools and a little care everyone can replace it.
First unscrew the two screws on the bottom, then carefully insert the plastic pad between the top chrome frame and the plastic one starting from the bottom of the phone having care of the usb port frame, it is very thin and easy to be broken.
Once disassembled pull away the protective plastic protective stickers from the camera glass and the usb port frame and place on the new cover, having care to pair the two parts with your fingers, put back on the two screws, that's it, all done.
Oh, and I higly recommend to protect your N4 with a bumper case or something else.
That's a pretty expensive auction. I've seen full back covers with NFC go for almost half that price.

I've seen them on ebay and amazon for that price...ebay had international shipping, so its location doesn't play any part in price, imo. And afaik, amazon only ships within North America....so yeah, that one would make sense to have a lower price. But like I said, there are ebay sellers who ship internationally for half that price

Note 5 N920C battery replacement

Hey guys!
Two days ago I've bought myself a Note 5 N920C used. The phone looks good, and it works perfect, but the battery doesn't work as intended.. it drops from 40% to 6% in 2-3 minutes, while updating some Playstore apps.. with the screen turned off.
So.. my question is, where on Amazon (UK preferably), or what model should I order ? Are there genuine batteries, or all of them are fake ?
Thanks!
Anyone, anything ?
I should be able to help you, I once replied to this - but XDA forums is pretty broken for me with Chrome on Android. (~1 minute page load times)
I've had to replace my battery twice.
Have a look at this picture:
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1...xy_Note_5_Battery_Pic1_large.jpg?v=1466274913
Please make sure all of these things exist - to increase your chances of a genuine battery.
-Hopefully the listing stays 'genuine'. (say on ebay)
-Note the Samsung logo.
-Note the serial number & date up the top, fakes/replacements don't have this format or it doesn't exist.
-Ensure everything else looks sound.
-And check the MAH (capacity).
There are some things you really need to know before cracking it out. Mind if we voice call? I found out some things the hard way. Those disassembly videos tend to gloss over some things.
(Like just how much you really have to heat up the back, best technique to pull off without breaking, how damn sticky the battery glue is (may pierce battery), etc)

Hey dude, thanks for the reply!
Yes.. not having XDA forum on Tapatalk.. is really a hard thing to browse around!
I will take the phone to a GSM shop, so that they will mount the battery inside.. I am afraid to mess with it.. because I'm pretty sure I will crack the back glass, haha!
Thank you very much for all the details!
P.S. What model of Note 5 you have, and what model of battery you bought ?
How much is a shop going to change it for? I think you should do it yourself imo, $16 for battery, $4 for tools, $15 for heatgun - if you break the back, it's only $9. Imo, you should get the experience, as you may need to replace the screen next time.
I have a 920c, all of the Samsung variants have compatible batteries for this device.
As your old battery is no good. It should be quite easy to heat it up and get in with the tool kits which provide guitar picks.

Oh.. you have the 920C like I do! What battery code did you had inside your phone ?
Keeping in mind I don't live in the US, here the prices are a bit bigger for a heatgun, and for the tools..
A gsm shop that has a lot of good reviews, charges around 55$ for everything.
I surely hope that I will not need to replace the screen anytime soon.. haha! That is the most expensive part of this phone!

I think you'll be quite surprised at the prices, you're in Europe. I'm in New Zealand for one. There is often free shipping for such items.
Here is what SCAM/FAKE batteries can look like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-G...606736?hash=item3aed41aa10:g:kgMAAOSwqXZZwSZI
https://www.amazon.com/Quality-3000...89&sr=1-8&keywords=note+5+replacement+battery
Here is what seems to be a legitimate: (Note Samsung logo, position of QR code, black seal edging, 'CELL MADE IN KOREA, ASSEMBLED IN CHINA')
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-EB...443227?hash=item4d63a81b5b:g:upkAAOSwufpZwIPS
Here's why I don't trust a shop:
-They may put in a fake battery.
-They may leave the seal damaged, and you won't know.
-They may damage the backplate rather than replace, and still charge you the same.
-They may put the back on and leave dust in the camera.
Here's why it's good to know:
-You have the tools for good.
-You can replace parts in the future, you may need to replace the battery or display or camera or usb port.
-Could work out cheaper - despite buying tools.
As someone who's replaced the screen twice and battery twice. (Samsung support sucks when you're on holiday) I can honestly say Samsung has cheap build quality. The battery is much easier than say - a screen replacement. All you can break is the back and the old battery.

Thanks for the link. Repairing this phone is really not difficult. Using the right amount of heat the back comes off without breaking in about 7 minutes and removing the battery requires some more heat and a little bit more prying. Replacing the digitizer requires heat and some patience.
I know this is an old thread, but has anyone bought one of these batteries recently? I want to replace the battery on my N920P, but have no idea which battery is good to buy. I don't want to spend the time and money only to waste my time. I looked for the craftman batteries above, but don't seem to see them online either.

Hi - did you have to replace the adhesive during battery replacement process?
Or re-use the existing one?
I am expecting mine battery to arrive in couple of days just wanna be sure I have everything before I start the procedure.
Thank you
So I took the plunge and bought a battery someone else suggested from Fry's electronics. It was only 15 bucks and I picked it up in person. It was EXTREMELY hard to remove the back cover, even after heating it a lot. I ended up basically destroying the back cover to get into the phone. So far the battery seems to be running OK, but I'll be able to report back on its performance in a few days.
In case anyone is still monitoring this thread. I went ahead and found a battery at Fry's electronics for 15 bucks and went through with the replacement. I completely shattered the back glass in the process so I had to get a replacement. So far it's been very good. I went from 3 hours screen on time to about 4.5 hours. Basically, I'm getting 50% more battery life overall and don't have to charge the battery in the middle of the day any more. Accubattery showed that I had 1800mAh of life left in the previous one and this one shows about 2700-2850 depending on the reading.
Here's the battery I got. It was only 15 bucks and I picked it up in store too.

I had to replace the back glass, but I can tell you that the glue should still be plenty strong to hold the glass on if you don't break the glass in the process. I put the broken one in its place for a week while the replacement came. Although it was in a case, It was still held on firm by the glue that's there, and that's with me having peeled off most of the glue since I had screwed it up so badly anyway.

Quick charging works perfectly fine. I don't really use NFC so I can't test that out, but as far as I know the NFC capability is not built into our batteries in the Note 5. If you have an easy way of me testing it out then I can try it out for you.
I believe you are correct about how the NFC is not built into the battery itself. I will go ahead and order this battery and give it a try.

I believe you are correct about how the NFC is not built into the battery itself. I will go ahead and order this battery and give it a try.
Thanks again!

How is that battery working out? I want to replace mine as well and am looking for a reliable aftermarket one that won't last only 2 months or blow up my phone.

Is it possible to use a hair dryer to separate the screen from the body?

Hi, my Nokia 8 battery is coming this week and I don't have a heat gun.. can I use a hair dryer to remove the screen from the body? I might be crazy but I think it will work because the adhesive is not too strong.. please correct me if I am wrong.. Thank you.
Yea is possible. Few months back I removed the screen using hairdryer, plastic guitar pick, and a suction cup. The adhesive is not really strong on the long side of the screen so you may start from there.
But regretted that... bought 2 new replacement battery but all of them are having fake capacity (1500MaH). Seems like there's no original battery available outside.
Yes i bought few fake batteries with another connector little long than original Max capacity 1500mah. I want test wonkegonke soon. This have great ratings.
yes, it is possible but buying battery from ebay or aly if more like a win a lottery
I will test battery from aliexpress. I'm waiting for a delivery. Battery looks like the original with manufacture date 20.10.2017.
