Should I install the recent OTA update? - T-Mobile LG G4

I'm still running stock 20q and just wondering if I should install the latest OTA update released about a couple weeks ago, as I would like to eventually root my phone and I don't know if it would make it harder to do so.

I have root, should I stay away? PS: my bootloader is unlocked
Have found some info that I should flash it with flashfire from chainfire, but info is outdated
besides I dont want to loose root
Another thing disabling OTA From the hidden menu does not work on Tmobile H811, I have to sleep with the wifi off so play services doesn't download the patch.

well update and rooted. only takes like 5 minutes or less.
you need lg drivers and minimal adb fastboot. if you already unlocked nootloader and rooted then.. just download KDZ 20r. flash it with LGUP. select refurbished after you select KDZ file close LGUP then open it and this time select refurbished .. start.
boot into fast boot .. send twrp .img install it from sd card permanently and you ar set.. then rooted .

[Q] USB Port broke...How to update...OTA won't work

I have a 6606 that I rooted and now the USB port is broke. The OTA update to 4.2.2 won't work (Due to root) and the usb port is broke so I can't load via flashtool ftf. I did remove SU, thinking the OTA would work and it did not.
1) What options do I have?
2) Is there a way to remove root completely so the OTA will load/install?
3) Would the device Factory Reset remove the root 100% so the OTA would install? (I was trying to avoid as I don't want to lose my son's minecraft game data)
Thank you kindly,
Randy

1) I am thinking..
2+3) maybe there are some unroot apps in playstore. I never tryed someone so I can not say if it works. With a factory reset I think you will less root. But wait with it and give me 20 mins. I do a backup in CWM and after that I will try it for you
You can try to convert(?) the ftf file in a flashable zip. But I don't know how to do that.. -.-
Edit: Ok, I tryed it(I have not choosed delete internal datas too) SuperSu was there also CWM..
Thank you for trying and if you come up with anything good, holla at me!

Factory Reset ? ODB over WiFi any use to you ? (Kernel dependent)
why get the ota update? install recovery if you havent already, and flash a stock deodexed rom based on tbe semi-latest firmware, or a custom rom of your choice. The tmobile os is crap anyway and full of thingz to kill your battery and performance. Also the latest update isnt 4.3 or 4.4 anyway as far as im aware, so you cant be losing much that xposed or custom roms cant give you.

what i mean it if otas causing you trouble just go with tbe custom rom. there are RomAur and deodexed stock that do everything the oem does and even look likr them. the latest tmobile update doesnt do **** for your phone except help tmobile. and i can say from experience that regardless. of the rom on your phone, the txg message about bills will still come though.

Constant system updates, but nothing changes?

I swear every time I turn on my WiFi I download a new system update but then after applying it nothing is changed?
Could this be because I'm rooted its not applying? I used Towelroot.

Yes, its because you're rooted.
You will need to flash the .kdz manually.

Will doing so unroot my phone? I heard they're harder to root after updates. Do I go straight to the latest .kdz and where do I get it?

Need Update Advice (KitKat to Lollipop)

I currently have an LG-D415 running KitKat 4.4.2 that's rooted. I've never had a need to upgrade to Lollipop 5.0 until now. I just bought a new truck that has Android Auto which requires 5.0. My phone has been giving me a message that there's a system update available for quite a while now but I have been reluctant to do it because my phone is rooted and I'm not sure what would happen. Should I just let it do the update or do I need to unroot the phone first. It's been so long I'm not even sure what method I used to root the phone.
If you have rooted phone i recomend you installing latest twrp recovery and flashing lollipop ROM for lg l90d415. the stock ROM van ne found on t
his site
OTA update will fail if device is rooted. If you want to keep root enabled, then follow lgl90 suggestion. If you remove root to update it may work but you will have to root again. A backup is always a good move.
I'm kind of a novice at this so I'm looking for the most painless method of getting Lollipop. I'm not sure I'm comfortable installing twrp and flashing the rom. Also, I've read the bootloader needs to be unlocked which it isn't. Can I use SuperSu to unroot, let the OTA update do its thing and then reroot?
the bootloader is unlocke by deafult on lg l90d415 all you habe to do is download flashify app from play store download the latest twrp for d415 and wipe system, dalvikcache and cache the flash te lollipop stock tom by going to install and chouse the rom file where you have downloaded it inernal or external sd card and the swipe to flash the firsr boot will take maximaly 5-10 minuts .. lollipop is waaay diferent than the kitkat thats why will take to boot longer
So I unrooted the phone downloaded the OTA update and tried installing it. It made it halfway through then the phone restarted without completing the update. The phone is still at 4.4.2 and I no longer get any message to update. When I check for updates it thinks its up to date. When I tried manually updating using the LG Mobile Support Tool it initially said an update was available then changed to the phone is up to date. Why does it think the phone is up to date when obviously it's not?

HI i told you what is the best solution to update your phone.. you could successfuly hard brick your phone(why did it not update well you didnt had enough of battery life) do what i told you so the best solution is to download the official lollipop rom for lg l90 d415 its same stock rom from lg but it comes pre rooted and all of that good stuff

zagreb - as I stated I'm a novice so I chose the path that I thought would be the easiest. My phone was fully charged so I do not believe that was the reason for the update not completing. Is there a thread or link you know of that provides a step by step (from beginning to end) tutorial of what you're proposing. Thanks for your help.

Is it safe to do a system update

I have a Droid Turbo that is currently on version 5.1 (23.21.44) and I just recently unfroze the system update notifications for my phone because of the news of MM. I am currently rooted and have an unlocked bootloader but I don't have TWRP installed and would rather not install it for now if I don't have to.
The system update that it is trying to push to my phone isn't MM, instead it is version 23.21.49.en.US. Is it safe to just take this update while being rooted and with an unlocked bootloader? I'm also not sure how many updates I'll have to make my way through before reaching the MM update, but if there are other updates, should it also be safe to go ahead with those as well? I know I could install TWRP and flash the MM ROM that way but I would prefer to do the updates officially if it is not risking a bricked phone.
Thanks for any advice.
EDIT: I forgot to finish the title of the thread...

It's safe, but it will be unsuccessful until you unroot your phone and undo any other system modifications that you've done (xposed, for example). There's a huge part of the update script that checks every single file in your system partition to make sure nothing has been modified.
Ok great, thanks.
The only other modification I can think that I've made is enabling mobile Hotspot through editing a setting somewhere. Do you know if that would be affected or would need changed back?

You did that by modifying /system/build.prop. That change might be okay, but I would change it back if I were you just to be safe. The change is going to be overwritten anyway once the OTA is done.

It's possible it may miss overlooking that. The worst that could happen was the update just doesn't take. It fails and nothing is changed. There is a pure MM official version that you can Flash in TWRP. It will update everything, radios and all, but will not relock the bootloader. I recommend you download Titanium Backup and backup all of your apps and their data to be restored after the update. A factory reset is recommended after the update. Also, don't forget to back up all of your photos, documents, music, etc. 24.81.5 is MM. Your update was a prep for MM.
Thanks for the advice guys.
I didn't realize it but I had TWRP installed so I decided to flash a stock ROM and proceed with the OTA updates from there. The problem currently is that I'm being locked out of my phone because of the Google "verify your account" page. I reset my account password on that page and now I'm not able to log in.

question about maintaining root

So far I've been running my OP3T with stock rom with TWRP recovery and SuperSU to have root. This was mostly because I wanted the Adaway and titanium backup to work. I undid everything so I could update to the latest OxygenOS version, and now I'm on the stock recovery too, but with bootloader still unlocked I believe. I no longer have root after doing the upgrade as far as I can tell, still a bit new to all this flashing, haha. The last time I did this was when the nexus 4 came out
What is the best option for maintaining root while still being able to upgrade smoothly? I'm not against using one of the custom ROMs if that will help, but I do kinda like the stock rom so far!
thanks!

Thank you, I have seen that post. I'm guessing any route I go I'll have to flash updates then? I was hoping to find a way to be able to use OTA updates.
I've also never been able to get rid of the dm-verity error, even after going back to stock and locking the bootloader. Is there anything I need to worry about with that or is it just an annoyance?

Dm-verity u can bypass but bootloader one, you can not. Look at the apps, mods section.

You shouldn't try to flash the partial OTAs while you are rooted and have a custom recovery installed. The partial zip will try to make specific changes in the restricted partitions (/system, /boot, /recovery, etc.) related to the update and prior modifications to these files may cause the update to fail and the phone to brick. You can still use the "Update" tab in the Settings menu to download the update though as OOS will detect root and download the full zip of the update for you. Simply flash the full zip in TWRP, wipe cache/dalvik, then flash SuperSU and you're good to go the next time an update rolls out. Updating by this method (rooting immedately after flashing update) will also prevent OOS from replacing TWRP with the stock recovery again. When you download the update, you'll know if it's the full zip if the file is >1 GB (they're usually ~1.4 GB,, whereas the partial zips are a few hundred MB).
Unlocked bootloader warning screen is cannot be removed without relocked and fully resetting (wiping) the phone. DM-verity warning screen can be removed by following this guide. Make sure that you are flashing the correct firmware for you current version of OOS though, flashing the wrong version can brick you phone.
