longest running g4 without a bootloop issue - Sprint LG G4

Just wondering guys.
Post up how old ure g4 is.
manif date
refurb or not
mine was made in 10/15 orig no refurb here.
wondering if my thermal paste mod has prolonged my g4
so mine a year and 4 months old
damn shes old

Mine ran for 18 months. I gave it to my daughter who leaves YouTube on 24 hours a day and it bootlooped in 1 month.

I will have to try the thermal paste, mine is a refurbished board LG put on but hopefully it was a good board, will not be upgrading anytime soon unless something does happen.

[Q] Random power off

Hey guys,
Firstly, I will admit from the start my phone has been dropped a couple of times but from around knee height at most...
I bought a contract, of which I am 2 months into, and in the last 2 weeks my phone keeps turning off randomly and wont turn on. Only sometimes when I remove the battery and sim card even, that it turns back on again. Its really frustrating, especially that I'm moving home in the next few weeks and agencies cant call me.
I am wondering if I can somehow go to the store of the company I bought it from and ask for a new one or a different phone?
I am happy to pay the difference for a galaxy note 2 dare I say which was my original choice but the LG was £10 less a month. Only thing is I purchased it online?
Many thanks to any help or advice on what might be causing this?!

A couple drops shouldn't cause this unless you're really unlucky, I dropped mine from the bench on the second day of owning it and freaked though luckily not a mark on it. I would say it's probably a fault so yeah try and return it, if it's bought online get in touch with the customer service team, most sites will have the phone number somewhere or it may be on your invoice. Check for damage or loose connections around the battery first though, good luck!

I was looking around the device but nothing is visible. I went to carphone warehouse store and they said they have to send it to LG. I will be able to tell if its a replacement or not as mine had a little dink taken out of the frame..ahh well, now two weeks of waiting to do.
They offered me a replacement phone as I went to leave like they forgot and I got a simple looking Samsung with chunky buttons! XD love retro style!
Thankyou for the advice,
Marc

You're welcome! When I was with carphone I brought in my HTC desire z (now drowned in the toilet one drunken night) Because it was not receiving messages, and I had updated it to 2.2.1 which made it impossible to root. When I came back to the store after my holiday I was thrilled to find a brand new phone (gave me the old backplate back though, cheapskates) with the original rootable 2.2! I proceeded to root and flash my first ever ROM, cm7, crapped myself cos I bricked it, then realized I had just forgot to wipe data! Booted into cm7 and never looked back, I can't stand unrooted devices! hopefully they send you a new one, that sort of fault usually does get a new one as its hard to detect the source of the issue, good luck!

HTC Battery Failure

While this is not an issue that's necessarily related directly to the HTC One (but HTC's in general) and since I am considering the purchase of an HTC One, it made sense to post it in here.
Does anyone know of the general failure rate of HTC Batteries? Since the HTC Battery is non-removable, I'm trying to gather some information on failure rates, in order to determine just how risky it could / would be to get a phone with such a drawback (it would be my first phone with a non-removable battery).
Of course this issue would compound itself in complexity if the battery dies after the warranty expires.
Reason I ask this is because my Sammy Note battery died 14 months after purchase and all it took was buying a new batter to get my device back up and running. There would be no such luck with the HTC one
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Batteries are subjective to a lot if things, such as usage, weather, charge cycles etc. Cell phone batteries that can not be replaced by the user can be replaced by the manufateuer, for a fee if course. Most people get 12 to 18 months before needing to replace their battery.

My S2 battery is still ok after 23 months. No need for a removable battery for me. 3 weeks until my One!

Regarding to HTC. . . My One X has lasted since the week of release and still going strong. . . Lasts all day (If im not playing games all the time) and has been charged EVERY night since owned. . . HTC's prior to this i had multiple batteries for... not that they lasted, but because i was such a heavy user, but they still lasted around 2 years each, May still last now but sold the handsets so couldnt tell you. . .

the battery can be replaced its just not easy. when i bought the phone i asked tmobile about the battery and what i could do if it started to lose its charge. they told me that if i noticed any loss of battery i could bring the phone back within 2 years and they would replace the phone for $20 with a new phone. not a refurb but a new one. besides most of the time with phones that have built in batteries they use higher quality ones that dont lose their charge as fast. plus with the battery being sealed the moisture in the air doesnt degrade the battery as fast so they would last longer than a battery that is open to the elements

People exchange their phones within 30 days, they don't exchange them 2 years later and T-Mobile gives them a new phone. Think about what your saying, it makes no sense.

So you just recently brought your s2 in to Tmobile and got a new one? Because the s2 is just about to turn a year and a half old. So you would have had to do it just recently. Sorry, I'm not buying it.
Now if you had said you called 611 within a year of owning the phone or had insurance on the phone then I'd believe you. You get a refurb sent to you and the cost is $5-$20. But walking in to a T-Mobile store a year and a half later and getting a new phone? Nah.

TMobile is effin USELESS when it comes to assisting customers who don't have insurance. My existing BB9900 through work has been dismal in functionality and they blame water damage to screw me out of a replacement on a device that's barely a few months old. I vented in this thread on the Crackberry forums.
Unless you have a family member working in that store who's gonna sneak you out a device from the backdoor, my personal experience with Tmobile makes me wish you good luck in thinking you're gonna get a replacement.

As have I, T-Mobile has been very good to me...I upgraded to the vibrant and then 7 months later they let me get the sensation for $179, after I had just upgraded. (With loyalty, not in store) They did that for me two other times in the 11 yrs I've been with them. Never an issue with them. But policy is policy and walking in to a store after a year and a half and getting a new phone for $20 wouldn't happen without insurance, and that's not even how insurance claims are processed. End of story for me.
How do you still owe money on a 1 1/2 yr old phone????? You know what, never mind....could care less.

Reboot and shutdown wont come back without removing battery

I have been rooted and using custom ROMs for over a year now on my note 4 but recently started having my TekXodus ROM crash occasionally. So I updated to the factory latest DOK2 using Kies and I have an issue where when I reboot or shutdown. When i do this I have to pull the battery out for a few minutes before it can boot again. I have tried factory restoring with Kies several times and still have the same problem. Root + custom ROMs also have the issue. Any ideas?
Similar problems in another thread. I'm still having issues although I've gone back to stock as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/help/note-4-major-slowdown-bugs-boot-loops-t3311297
People are starting to pop up everywhere with this issue, ROM's, stock, rooted, it doesn't seem to matter. It seems like it's either a software update they pushed to all carriers or maybe hardware failure of some kind. The batteries do seem to go bad fairly regularly around 9-12 months. That's fixable with that Anker 2x + wall charger kit, but if it's hardware failure for this it could get ugly.
Yeah mines getting worse. Gonna try to pick up a motherboard.

My phone died completely after a week of ongoing problems. Won't boot or anything any longer and I don't think its software related.. Let me know if you have any success picking up and installing a motherboard.
My Note 4 I bought a year ago was having this issue a couple months ago. Did the usual, factory reset, blah blah blah, was getting the mmc read fail error. Called tech support told them everything I did because I knew they would want me to do it so I headed them off at the pass. They said well it seems you did all the work for us and I had a replacement the next day for $5. Worked fine for 2 months and now it's doing it again so I'll be calling for another replacement tomorrow.
Strange thing is I wasn't getting the same mmc read fail error although I saw something similar only 1 time. This time though I did get a dm-verity verification (?) error. No idea what that even means.
What sucks is they really should offer me an upgrade at this rate but I have no interest in the Note 5 or the S6 without an sd slot or removable battery. Hoped to hold on to my N4 for at least another year.
where can we even buy motherboards for this note 4?
mine is dead as well! it's unfortunately out of warranty...obviously! i'm pretty sure it's a hardware failure!

Yep, my time w/ the note4 was good while it lasted. I purchased it for $350 back in october and was great. sold it "as is for parts" on ebay for $160 yesterday, and am done with samsung for a while. took that $160 and purchased a LG G2 that i'll have to use for another year or more. i was really getting used to the note's size and stylus features as well.

[Q] How bad is the boot loop issue?

So I am looking to purchase a refurb G4 (or Note 4) for T-Mobile as I'm moving away from Verizon and wondering just how bad and the likelyhood of the boot loop issue actually happening on the G4 at this point? Anything I should ask the seller that might indicate the refurb G4 will be less likely to have the boot loop issue occur?
Thanks for any info in advance. Much appreciated.
So i just gotbmy phone back from lg. It bootlooped. Bought on ebay so had no reciept. I filled out form on lg site and sent phone in. Got it back it about 10 days total. Phone i sent them had bootloader unlocked which it said on boot screen in top corner but it didnt seem to matter as they fixed it anyway. Only problem i heard is if it has physical damage like a cracked screen they will not repair phone. Mine was a version 1 built 06/2015 this seems to be the biggest g4 with bootloop issue
Thanks for the quick response. Just wondering does the G4 have the same overheat issue like the G3 has? Like does your G4 get warm around the back when doing a moderate amount of activity like say checking Facebook and using Bluetooth to listen to music?

yes it gets hot like in the top like behind camera.. and the most recent G4 i heard of bootloop was 604
this is the first 3 digits of serial number... 604 means .. 6 year 201(6) and 04 its month april... so 604 means april 2016...
try getting from 6XX the higher the better i think..it was supposed to be fixed since 510 but they still bootloop..
so as long as you have warranty and to be in the safe side a locked bootloader...
no using bluetooth doesnt get that hot only when doing facebook app. and other stuff.. recording seems to get hot...

Thanks so much for the tip on the serial number. I sent off an e-mail asking the company I might purchase the G4 from if they got any with the serial number starting with 6. From what was mentioned earlier in this thread and a few other mentions it seems like LG isn't being picky on the bootloader being locked/unlocked when it comes to fixing this let alone if the phone is in warranty.
Just trying to debate between getting a refurbished G4 or Note 4 so this might help me sway towards the G4.

Not sure how to check for model number, us that in the Fastboot?
Just chiming in to say my girlfriend's lasted maybe 3 months and died in the boot loop. No amount of factory resetting could get it to stop and had to send it back to LG. Just got her "new" one back a couple ago ago, so we'll see how this one fairs. Not particularly happy with the G4 so far compared to how good the G2 was.

I replaced my D851 with an H811 about 6 months ago (602 serial #). I use it outdoors with an air temperature of > 110°F. I set an alarm for 125°F and it was going off frequently. So far so good, no bootloop even with the high temps. My Samsung S4 shuts down under similar circumstances. My LG Marquee died a few years ago due to the heat. I can't deny others have had issues but my G4 rocks.

LS991ZVD Has upped the count

With this update no longer able to use the ZVBTOT as it is lower then the current version. LGUP gives the error message and phone reboots to system. Another door closed on the G4.
Not paying attention I thought I was only updating to ZVC. When I checked the screen to if any progress had occurred; I saw same message the update was downloaded etc.... In my haste I thought I had not started the ZVC update, so answered yes and slept in the recliner too tired to get to the bed.
Got a rude awakening today while trying to go back again to MellowMallow_LS991ZVB_v1.04. After attempt bombed out with error message, I checked to see what was happening - I have ZVD instead of ZVC which did work with the ZVBTOT.
ZVD closes another door. There may be another way around it, but I haven't found it.
A plus for the ZVD is my phone only used about 5% power during the time I was sleeping. usually I wake up to a phone with 30-45% left.
hope this helps someone avoid going down this path.

I was forced down this path by bootloop and LG repair practice of updating all repaired phones to latest firmware, posted about it yesterday.
I have noticed better battery performance too, that is the first thing I noticed. BUT I would sacrifice that for self-unlockability by global mellow-mallow rom.
A lot of people are anticipating the possibility of further news about a possible all-variant unlock/relock BL breakthrough, and if thats the case, hopefully there are enough devs left with G4 sprint interest.

As i am still on zv6. Dont know how this works on zvc or zvd.
But worth a shot
I think i tried that right after she upgraded it. Forgot to tell her not too when we got the replacement. First g4 bootlooped after 8 months.
I got the screen from amazon only screen with 12 positive reviews....teseko brand. Hope is good if its ok i might get one for my g3.
Running my g5 now, had it for about 5 month but only really used it as daily the past 2 month and my power button barely works. Went from acting up to almost not working in a few days. Getting fed up with lg.... The g3 was/is great....after about 2 almost 3 years my g3 just now has an issue where the screen doesnt respond that great...as in i try to scroll up but it clicks the page......
The g4 (my wife's) bootlooped after 8 months. My g5 has the power button issue after 2 months..... I wonder if i replace the screen on her g4 how long it will last till it bootloops..... Or if my g5 will too.
I think at some point i will have to switch over to galaxy or something else. As much as i like both g4 and g5 the quality is just way too too bad.
Anyways im venting......but....
Thank you for all the tips..... Hopefully a way is found eventually.[emoji4]

Since i am replacing her screen i am going to do that too (thermal paste)... Too bad i cant root it it for tether but oh well.
I think i will fix the g5 myself and use it or fix the g3 and keep the g5 as backup. Sprint did away with the bestbuy 2 year upgrade and their online 2 year is not the best of deals so.....who knows. Cant leave sprint though....service has always been great, my old truly unlimited plan is crazy compared to whatever they have now anywhere.. Just under 300$ for 6 lines unlimited data.....only got one warning letter when i forgot my home cell phone playing a romanian radio station on high bitrate for like the whole month.....used about 300gb and they sent a letter for that line....i checked and i was like what a moron i am...
