Sorry for the slightly offtopic post, but I guess it might be interesting for some of you here.
The new Gartner report came out and it's not looking too bright for Blackberry, so I thought, maybe we can convince them to build us a replacement for our aging Droid 4s (an Android side slider with unlocked bootloader).
I started a petition to them at change.org. If you want to see something like that built, please sign the petition!
Qwerty slider from BlackBerry, please!
Yes! This is what we need:

Droid 4 is the best phone I have ever had but we really need upgrade soon! Performance is not lasting forever (link). Too bad that we never had Droid 5. Here are pictures of the rumoured prototype:
2Gb ram and MSM8960DT would have been nice like on Droid Mini, Ultra and Maxx.
This isnt really off topic at all. Most of the people who visit here are wishing for a hardware keyboard in some form or the other. There's good news though.
Over on the MaemoTalk forums, there is a thread about making a hardware keyboard MotoMod for the Moto Z, y'all should check it out. (I'd post a link but I'm too new to post one)

Thank you for that information. Things are moving fast: Twitter
Here is some info (link)
The device will be produced in one of the Foxconn factories, I hope that can assure quality concerns.
This will be the keyboard layout to start with, not sure if the pic quality is clear enough, as the server compresses the image...
The left D-Pad has been ditched unfortunately, to favour general taste...
There is also some interesting add-on:
- Android home (circle) and task view (square) has been added to the keyboard and back (Triangle) will be merged with esc, basicly they do the same thing.
- Added different shortcuts above number row rather than Fn numbers. The F1/F2 on top right are open for user to map.
- There will be a dedicated camera button act as a shutter because to use camera the slide has to be open

This seems kind of useless, given that Blackberry would never release an android phone with an option to root it.
I took a look at most of the Blackberry Android phones, but had to rule out alle of them.
No root -> no Adaway -> Unusable phone
No root -> No Xposed -> No Xprivacy -> Privacy Nightmare
And as already mentioned: We need crtl and tab keys

I am using a PRIV, I have no problem with the lack of Adaway or Xposed. I think this initiative is great - a horizontal (landscape) slider would be awsome - much better than PRIV with its vertical (portrait) slider!

Take a look at this Video of th TOuch Dual expecially the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tupk8MYLhMk
I think this the best dialer there is, if you notice it is basically the prefect Microsoft dialer with video button on it...
I'm not so much interested in the dialler, but the text entry methods available on the Touch Duals are also excellent, I believe there is 20 key style on-screen keyboard and also a T9 style on-screen keyboard. If these could be put onto the Kaiser I would be a happy man! The dial too would be a nice addition.
as i read on smarmania(dot)cz, there will be these keyboards available for htc devices through htc eclub at the end of october...
Is it not all about intall a application on WM6?

Awesome...Awesome to the MAX!
If they make these keyboards available on ALL devices that would be frickin' amazing...
even they will make it available only for touch, someone will earlier or later extract it, or you can download through htc eclub...
Check out a util called Phone Pad, i think this is like a T9 dictionary pad like normal phones.
Check this out...
Reported my msmobiles:
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6772.html
Free until December 8th.
Has the dialer been released yet?
http://www.cootek.com/intro.html
These guys released a similar style on screen keyboard
It's free for a limited time (like December 31st 2007) or something
Download away
the Touch Dual is out, can anyone get the DIALER?

+1 for the dialer
Its way better than the one by default on most kaiser ROMs
(especially since it doesnt truncate names when SmartDialing)
Woow, looks nice; I am also really interested in this. The actual one is a little slow.
Is there any hope to get this amazing dialer??

no, and i am affraid if it ever will be released coz guys already extracted it from the roms and there is no need to do it by htc

as for dialer - just wait some time and guys will extract it from some rom
I don't understand how HTC can provide a phone like the Kaiser (supposed to be high-end right ?) with such poor dialer.
It would make more sense to give same nice-looking tools that the Touch family is getting.

Out of curiousity why is the Kiaser phone dialer poor? Im not very impressed, but whats it lacking in your opinion?
yep. correct. what is nice no need to be the best
Easy : it's lacking lisibility
Any Windows Mobile 6 Standard do a much better job when it comes to SmartDialing...
Having a larger top window would definitely help (like on the screenshot)
That is precisely the reaso I use the Microsoft smart dialer and do away with the video call... But this one seems that it combines the Micrsoft smartdialer with Video call... Or it is based on the Microsoft Dialer, it does not matter but it is better. I have seen the Video dialer in the Toshiba G900 which is a Video dialer based on the microsoft WM6 smartdialer and it works much better then the HTC solution
Guys!
What will be the successor to this bit of kit most of us have had knocking around for about a year or so now? I'm looking for something similar - ie 'proper' keyboard, good screen, 3g, satnav, cam, and whatever is new and sexy!
I am struggling to think that there i will be a better form factor - but ya never know!
i am a little outta touch with the tech - as i only follow the game when i am really n the market to buy...
so i welcome any good info!

One of two in my opinion:
HTC HD as mentioned above, or Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1. Both have hardware keyboards and WVGA screens. Samsung Omnia is pretty good bang for your buck too, pity it doesn't have a hw keyboard. Nokia's new N96 is interesting, but I would never move away from WinMob, besides, where would you find support like here at XDA?
you speak truth mackjam ;-)
I am in for winmob all the way - sighing and all!!!

Jitterbug?
my only real problems with my kaiser is viability in sunlight my boss laughs at me when he sees me running for shade so i can see whats on my screen, and the material the phone is made out of imo they should have made the entire phone out of the scratch resistant material the back is made out of.
If they were able to make a phone that fixes both of those problems I'd be happy to replace my kaiser with it.

What do you think about it? Is this is a really revolution?
I think this phone looks very nice with a stunning UI. The technical specs are nothing special, but this could be quite a hit i think.
thats a savage ass phone, you kno what would be sick tho if you could change the color of all the LED's on it two from blue to like purple or something. It's linux it should be fully customizable like that
I love the look of this phone. Very appealing. I will be interested in seeing more about it.
This would be the perfect MP3 Player. But for a smartphone, I do not know if it will offer the extreme flexibility of any of the four TRUE smart phones: Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, Android.
Does this phone have a file system, etc? Also, does Palm Pre and Palm Pixi have a file system and file manager too?
But I've seen this phone before, and I was excited, and still am.
I just don't expect it to be smart-centric. I expect it to be more like a Zune HD experience with some "quasi-smart" features like on the iPhone.
Original Poster, I think you should compile links on the first post and make this the official ELSE anticipation and discussion thread.
More Links http://else.bz/

But there are a few things I would like to know more about this phone.
*Judging by the Flash Videos, the keyboard on the phone sucks (but there are some pretty cool features). But the reason why it sucks is mainly due to the layout and size of the keys both in portrait and qwerty.
*I haven't seen any file manager. Will it be on this phone, and how complex is it?
*Speaker quality?

He was talking about the buttons being on the right side of the phone. Easier for us left-handers to use. I don't think you can change hardware location in settings
Use it upside down maybe!! too bad for you!! Does look interesting, but not entirely better than tab bars and such.. it does have that added sliding left feature and I guess it being capacative would not require much tension from the thumb. I am always up for new technology to push the limits.

Wow, maybe the device will not only have rotate orientation buy also flip orientation. That would be awesome!
It's all going to come down to how they market this phone. It looks great and definitely has appeal to those of us with a technical background and who love customization. But what carrier will they market it to? Can it be customized to settings that people find interesting such as led colors, programs, etc? and the biggest one: WHO will they allow to carry the operating system. Getting google to back this would be great, getting Nokia to make a phone able to support this would be great, but which one will have the advertising budget to challenge Apple and the like to the duel that will occur when this and the next generation of iphones is released? A small company like Access is going to have a really hard time trying to compete with Motorola, Nokia, Google, Samsung and Apple especially.
I'm sorry for reviving a dead thread, but does anybody know the name of this phone and the maker? I think the phone failed to launch and the maker went out of business and that's making it hard for me to find any information on this. A name should help, thanks.
The Linux based smartphone have actually been out for awhile. I think (Don't hold me to word on this) there is one called tuxphone. But I'm not sure if that's Linux based when I think back on it...

The most thing about Android that is Linux based is it's kernel but a lot of it is actually Java, especially the apps.

I agree that it looks very cool, but they want to use a MediaTek processor.
MTEK are very unfriendly to modders and the open source community and rarely release any source code. Yet the Gemini guys wrote that they'll support Linux dualboot.
Looks a bit weird to me. I'd like to get that but only if Lineage will run on it.
I wonder if you can actually use it as a phone. like put it to your ear and talk...
That thing looks way interesting. The only thing that I am worried about is how to make a phone call with this.

Yes but, I think that to make a call you have to open it up to dial, and use the stereo speakers to listen, there is no ear only speaker.
The Gemini PDA will have a microphone and speaker for phone use whilst closed. Calls can be made in this mode via the voice activation button or wired or wireless headset. Programmable LEDs will enable caller ID for known callers.

You can* there are mics and speakers on both sides so it doesn't matter which way you use it, but forget about using the touchscreen in case you need to. (you'll have to open the clamshell to do so.)
I have one but haven't tested the phone yet (or really plan to) . As mine is an early release model (early backer) it shipped without the e-sim functionality enabled yet (testing still needed), and I really don't want to get a sim card if I don't have to. (Regular Sim cards do/should work)

Do I get one custom xda device profile badge, because of it being an official xda sponsored device? LoL! Joking of course!
This thing does remind me of the Unihertz Titan OG, and how quirky that clunky Passport Personification, or the HTC Touch Pro2 when it got to being flashworthy with all diverted kinds of Rom's and OS'es.
I got it specifically for flashing, but it's so beta-type is funny and admirable in a kinda lovely halfhearted sense of how crazy it acts.
Fortunately, I didn't spend full price on it, lucked out and got one off eBay for $400.
Much more worth this price, cause of the following laughable quirks;
1. If you're powered off and plug in a charger, it powers right up.
2. Touchscreen is sensitive and seems to have ghost touches, not cause of a broken screen but like trying to long press to get the context menu to popup in the browser and so on etc.
3. Fingerprint scanner in the completely wrong place, can't tell you how many times Iberia accidentally hit and not meant to.
4. The same could go for camera shutter button.
5. Tremendously slow speeds for 4g/LTE.
So far, this is all I've noticed on the first half a day's use.
Attempting to transition from Unihertz Titan Pocket and UTP is holding on to my heart still. But again, f(X)Tec Pro1-x IMO and usage is a modding flasher phone.
So what all flavors do we have and is it in these forums or f(x)tec's, I'm curious about SailfishOS and a few others.

I've really been considering SailfishOS, again as I mentioned, I mainly got this for flashing, hopefully Linux Mobile too, so it's really just an early adaptation device, which is why I compared it to the days of Windows Mobile and Android just getting really popular on WinMo devices such as the LG Fathom, HTC Touch Pro2, HTC HD2 and MAGLDR / Android2SD. Especially compared to the first two for PKB devices with the versatility to flash multiple OS'es to it.
One other thing, I wouldn't really call it a bug, but this dang pesky sim tray.
7. That darn notch in the dim tray is a real PAIN! LMAO
