Snapchat on Rooted OxygenOS 4.0.3 (Nougat) - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

So I got my 3T on Friday, and the first thing I did was to unlock bootloader, install TWRP, install latest official ROM (4.0.3) and root with SuperSU.
Everything works perfectly, except from Snapchat. I ran Snapchat on my previous rooted phone (Nexus 5) with no problems, but after finding no solution on the 3T, I googled it and it seems Snapchat doesn't like rooted devices.
What can be done in order to run it on the 3T? (Since it's on Nougat, there's no Xposed/Rootcloak)

I have the same config. Oxygen 4.0.3 rooted, but i have franco kernel. I use snapchat without problems, i dont think its because the kernel, it must be something else. You should backup and do a clean flash.

Its a clean flash. Never used the phone before upgrading to 4.0.3, factory reset done after installing 4.0.3, all programs installed and configured manually, no backup restores etc...

Unroot, login to snapchat, reroot.
If anytime you logout, you'd have to repeat these steps.

Thank you, this works.
It's ridiculous having to go through all this for the idiocy that snapchat is, but sadly, I have to use it for work

Do a backup with titanium backup. When you restore it will login automatically.

[Q] Apps crashing after update

I have a rooted Note.
And about 2 weeks ago I checked and found an update available to 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA4-CL886827 [email protected]#2 GINGERBREAD.XXLA4
I have seen a couple of interface changes, and overall it is nice...
Afterwards I did find that some of the apps stopped working:
gmail
Draw something.
I fixed it by updateing/ deleteing re-downloading them.. And it worked fine afterwards...
However my battery ran down and after I started up again the apps was once again broken
What I did notice is that some updates for apps I have already "applied" is once again available on the play store.
I am really looking forward to the ICS update and was planning to do a factory reset before that. However looking at the version I received (I really check regularly) this seems to be a "oldish" update Jan 2012. So I am not optimistic that even when it becomes available it will be available in South Africa.
What I want to know is if this a known issue? and is there a fix? Or would I just be advised to backup and bite the bullet and factory reset

If you upgraded your phone OTA, you lost your root, which explains the crashes!
I did do it OTA, however I still have root, Superuser still works and I installed Titanium backup and it also received su access.
I have check and found that applications installed after the upgrade seems to break after the reboot.
Should I will try to re-root the phone?

Just try if you could write on to /system folder. If you can't then re-root and check.
But if you have upgraded, the chances are that you may not be able to re-root with you current configuration, you will have to downgrade to a "rootable" ROM.
But never upgrade OTA when you are rooted, you will lose the root and will generally have issues.
But if you have root access, try wiping cache and see if that helps!
I cannot write to the /system folder, however I remember I had problems before the update already so not sure if it is a definitive proof. When using terminal emulator I can call "su" this is how it tested rooted previously.
I did try to re-root the phone with no success.
So how do I clear the cache???
Would it work if I reset to factory? What gets "cleared" when you do the reset?
All your apps and user data. Which include wifi settings, contacts, logs, etc
you cannot reroot with your configuration. you need to downgrade, root your phone and update via CWM, not OTA.
How Do I downgrade?? and what is CWM?

Here's a brief guide to downgrading and rooting I wrote a while ago:

CWM = ClockWorkMod Recovery --> do a forum search to find out what it is.

Google didn't not ask to restore phone on first use please help :(

Hello,
I did everything normal i booted the phone and filled in everything.
Logged in to google and it asked if i want to backup this account and i said yes. but it never asked to restore from a previous phone.
After this i updated the phone to the latest stock rom still nothing. i then did a factory reset and still did not ask me to restore
I also can't use titanium backup because my bootloader can't be unlocked for another 70 hours and therefore i can't flash twrp and magisk
I was thinking about kingoroot maybe but it's not systemless and might give me problems in the future :/
Does anyone have some advice?
Thanks
Well i just tried kingo root both the apk and then the pc version but neither worked...

does snapchat work on magisk currently?

after using snapchat for a while on rooted devices this is the first time that ive run into this issue of not being able to login. i honestly thought it was a password issue at first, which sucks because now i cant load my titanium backup of snapchat. so i disabled root on slimbean (which comes pre rooted) and installed magisk, after which im still not able to login. so i just want to know if magisk can still work to login to snapchat at this point.

i just ended up installing carbon roms and logging in before i installed magisk and will just backup to titanium. that seems like the best method to make sure it continues to work
Log in snapchat before rooting your phone and everything will be working fine

Camera not working anymore, and it may have something to do with Magisk

I just realized my camera isn't functioning anymore.
Each timeI try to open the stock camera app, the app will now say "can't connect to camera" and then quits. Other apps that make use of the camera will also complain about a problem with it.
Coincidentally, I upgraded magisk (canary build) to version ce7cb1ee (20706) last night. And I was using my camera just yesterday with no problems at all.
So I strongly suspect it may have something to do with the latest magisk build. Anything I can do to revert it back to the previous version?
(also note to self: do a full TWRP backup, and backup my own data too using methods like tar, next time before flashing new magisk)

Try to flash magisk 20.3 via twrp and delete cache and dalvik
Maybe stupid question, but have you tried to reset your phone? Xd
Have you any camera mods in Magisk modules, like Camera 2 API enabler or sth?

Thanks for replying !
I am now all but certain the latest Magisk canary build (edit: version 20306) as a compatibility bug with MIUI 10.
Ended up flashing to MIUI 11, installed Magisk, no issues.
Just for the sake of testing, I used MiFlash to do a fresh install of MIUI10, then installed Magisk. Camera became useless. Flashed previous version of Magisk canary. Things went back to normal.
Because of this I spent hours upgrading to MIUI 11 (so it gave me extra motivation to finally made the move), figuring out what to debloat, and did a slow and arduous operation of moving data slowly back to the system (so I can have a clean fresh MIUI11 with empty data partition and empty storage to begin with). So all is still good i guess.

Boot image patched by unsupported programs when switching from SuperSU to Magisk

Hi!
I previously had rooted my S7 Edge with Super SU v2.79 years ago but now I want to switch to Magisk because I need to hide root from certain apps. Magisk fails to install saying:
! Boot image patched by unsupported programs
! Please restore to stock boot image.

From here I read I can try unSU. But in my case it did not work. How exactly can I fix this now? As I understand I need to reflash some stock images? But what exactly is the minimum requirement? Just boot.img? Or system? Also if I don't want to loose my apps, data, config, can I flash them without loosing them? Or if not is it possible to hide root while still using SuperSU since I really don't want to lose my data/apps/config.
You get the info to restore the stock boot image, which is just the kernel image. As you are rooted right now, use a backup tool like Swift Backup (full version is paid) or Neo backup (FOSS) to backup all app data and apps and personal data in case something goes wrong. Backup that stuff to your PC of course, saving all data that was created by the backup app and your other stuff. Then flash stock kernel, test if all is good and stick to Magisk stable plus needed modules.
Next time please provide all system data like used (custom?) ROM and Android version. If you use a custom ROM you need to revert to the unrooted custom ROM kernel of course.
Thank you for your response!
I am not rooted currently as I uninstalled Super SU but I think I can install it back if needed. Will flashing stock kernel always cause app data to be lost? Or is there chance that it does not get touched? As for ROM I use stock android 7 rom. I am not sure where and if can I still find it.
I don't really trust backup because because previous attempts have ended up with boot loops and broken apps. If there is chance that that app data stays intact without backup then I might try it but if the process factory resets everything and then relies on restoring backup as one part of the process then for now I would try to come up with some other solution.
Also will it cause all the stock bloatware to come back or is the kernel separate from apps?

to back up use smart switch in pc, to install magisk is recommended to flash stock firmware first and instal magisk to avoid issues like bootloops
