Best microsd card for X compact? - Sony Xperia X Compact Accessories

Hey guyS
Ive been struggling lately to find a microsd card with good transfer rates to use on this phone it seems that the phone isnt able to get full speed
First I bought a sandisk extreme u3 64gb sdxc which after I tested with a1 sd bench I was only getting 30R - 30W
I thought maybe that was the card or something and went and got a Kodak micro Sdxc u3 64gb which is claiming to give you 95R and 90W but the intresting part is that after test with A1 sd bench this card is also giving me the same 30R and 30W
Any ideas?
Anyone tested any other microsd cards?
Maybe lexar will do a better job...

It's hard finding a decent card just by looking at boxes (and due to how marketing is... cringeworthy).
I was running a Sandisk Extreme Prov30 UHS-1 U3 card in my PC when it had Win10 (but Linux is installed and can't see the iSCSI controller so it's going to go into the Xperia for photos/music).
On the tablet I was getting 60/230MB/s (write/read).
Probably the cheapest fastest cards you can get for the price.
I recommend taking a look at this:
http://www.tweaktown.com/cat/storage/memory-cards/index.html
Here you will find tested cards. Cards that are UHS-1 U3 will work best. UHS-II cards don't necessarily translate to faster speeds just because they're UHS-II.

Also word of advice: Don't buy memory cards off eBay.

thanks for the info, yeah that's right but the problem is that I tried multiple u3 cards on this phone and when I test them with sdtool on android r/w speed wont go more than 30 each!
I know that the card isnt fake and all of them have an advetised speed of at least 50/50 r/w and up to 95/95 r/w

well, that's simply because the sd-card reader is only that fast. Have a look at review first maybe, e.g. the notebookcheck one.

Yeah I just bought a U3 microSD (Kingston SDCA3/32GB) which advertises 90 MB/s read, 45 MB/s write. My Androbench results were only 31 MB/s sequential read and 28.5 MB/s sequential write. In fact this measurement on the phone is slower than the U1 card I bought 2 years ago for my tablet, as measured on my tablet. I don't actually possess any USB 3.0 microSD readers so I don't have any proper way of benchmarking. But my results are consistent with the above experience - it doesn't test at any better than 30/30 on the X Compact. Can anyone provide a concrete example of a microSD doing better than 30/30 on the X Compact?

Yeah, I've been using a Sandisk 128 v30 card and it's good for the camera, but not so great for apps -- I'm noticing slowdown on boot (the app icons on home screen actually silhouette out for 5sec then load). Telegram likes to cache the most, and all the others run at boot or in the background -- thing is I don't even have a lot of apps on this device to begin with (all of 4). This card gets much greater speeds than advertised when it's thrown inside a Lenovo tablet (it's using PCIe on the connector).
This is definitely a device limitation and not an SD card issue.

Hmm well that's disappointing. So far I'm only using the card for Hearthstone and images.
I guess this might explain why adoptable storage isn't available stock on this device. Even if you have a fast enough card, the hardware throttles transfer rates.

Not sure how this would work, but is it a good idea to stress the SD card ?
Wow.. this increased my phone's speed..
Rafdroid Hd had a 128 value i had 1700 Quadrant score.. after tweaking with this app it jumped to 2000 Q. Score
So this tweak works well with the HD2
P.S: the Lockscreen problem persists.. even the wake up lag.
For me... it didn't work...
It doesn't work on my HD2 running CM7 GB. it made it lag and slower.
I've found wake up lag is related to the speed of the SD card itself. I went from a 32GB C4 to a 8GB C4, but with C10 speeds and that virtually eliminated any wakeup lag.

I'm using a 16GB Sandisk class2. You can't go much slower. I have no wake up lag whatsoever.
But I concur that the SD card could be the reason. You could buy two SD cards of the same type, same manufacturer and one of them would cause lags the other one would not.
For me it's working on class 10 16gb
sorry but this app can create a problem for a SD memory?

You normally get higher scores on the 2nd & 3rd quadrant test, even without tweaks.
This is interesting - has anyone used this application to notably improve a class 10 card performance (he says sitting on an unopened Lexar 32GB class ten whilst waiting for a class 4 to arrive).
Havn't used this app yet but only wanted to comment on those who have lag when trying to unlock or wake up phone. This is due to SD card so try different SD cards. I know that the stock 16GB class 2 card works well with no lag but I also have an 8GB class 6 card and it lags, also have a A-DATA 16GB class 6 with no lag and I recently ordered another A-DATA 16GB class 10, but that one lags. So for some reason not all SD cards are all the same. Just FYI

In SM Megamall. That was on sale - I bought it @ 1,800.00 pesos (about $ 42)
i have this
but i think it is not real class 10 it working like class 8 or class 6
Very nice.
Btw, is this 32GB microsd card class 10 a fake one in your opinion?
It is written on it but since there's no brand nor package, we can't verify...
EDIT: Err, in fact there's a brand, my bad...
You should ask more photos from the vendor to verify...
Dont know if its fake or not. cost $45(php1900) but one thing is for sure, its stable, i no longer have gallery thumbnail problems and faster sd media scanning unlike my previous class4 one.

I found a very cheap sd card on ebay.

Sizewise 16 gb is just fine for me. But depends pon torre media usage. I shot a lot of 720p videos , have few movies and audio albums. At any time at least 2 nandroid backups. IGo gps ( 400 mb maps).
And still have nearly 2 gb free.
Price difference nowadays is hardly worth considering. It is cheap
If i was buying now it would be the same do i want to spend 18-20 euro for 16 class 10, or 30-35 for 32.
why should I need 32 GB on my phone !!! I really don't get it I think 16 GB is even way more storage and I will never be able to run it out

Pankaja, you are correct. My 32GB Transcend SDCard is now dead. The files saved in the SDCard became permanent. I cannot save more files or delete files already saved. Tried formatting when phone is on or in CWM Recovery. Also tried formatting with card reader. Still no success.
I'm now back to my Sandisk 2GB provided when I bought my phone.
CAUTION! To all other users. I suggest do not buy or use Trancend SDCard for our phone. This is based on actual experience.
Well, i'm getting a 16 gb class 10 transcend card soon

What Micro SD Card To Use Xperia Z

hi guys

I know this have probably been asked before

does the class even matter ???
I did seem to have an issue playing films with my 32GB Class 4 but since I've bought the SanDisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 it's been just fine.

In exFat yes, but choose the SD you think you need
The SD Association defines standard speed classes indicating minimum performance to record video. Both read and write speeds must exceed the specified value. These are defined in terms of suitability for different applications:[40]
Class 2 for SD video recording
Class 4 and 6 for high-definition video (HD) to Full HD video recording,
Class 10 for Full HD video recording and consecutive recording of HD stills
UHS Speed Class 1 for real-time broadcasts and large HD video files
The specification defines these classes in terms of performance curves that translate into the following minimum read-write performance levels on an empty card:[41]
Speed Classes 2, 4, and 6 assert that the card supports the respective number of megabytes per second as a minimum sustained write speed for a card in a fragmented state. Class 10 asserts that the card supports 10 MByte/s as a minimum non-fragmented sequential write speed.[41] By comparison, the older "×" rating measured maximum speed under ideal conditions, and was vague as to whether this was read speed or write speed.
The host device can read a card's speed class, unlike the earlier "×" speed ratings. A device can warn the user if the card reports a speed class that falls below an application's minimum need.[41]
The speed class rating does not totally characterize card performance. Different cards of the same class may vary considerably while meeting class specifications. In addition, speed may vary markedly between writing a large amount of data to a single file (sequential access, as when a digital camera records large photographs or videos) and writing a large number of small files (a random-access use common in smartphones). One study found that, in this random-access use, some Class 2 cards achieved a write speed of 1.38Mbit/s, while all cards tested of Class 6 or greater (and some of lower Classes; lower Class does not necessarily mean better small-file performance), including those from major manufacturers, were over 100 times slower.[42]

it has shown between Samsung has an edge over Sandisk Micro SD card
I was using a Sandisk 32gb class 10 ultra. But it suddenly yesterday stopped working. Was working fine. Now can't even get the pc to read it, how can that happen.
So, I just got the Z through T-Mobile and am (casually) looking into getting an SD car for it. Should I hold out until the device is upgraded to 4.2 before getting a 64gig card? I'm assuming it wouldn't be compatible beforehand.
I suppose I could look into rooting the Z as well... (I'm kinda hesitant about that, though)

Bad SD card?
I bought a generic 64gb class 10 microSD card from ebay, great seller, great reviews. but it seems that my Xperia corrupts it once in a while and wants to format it. I started it with exfat, but then learned that FAT32 is better, so did that.. but the same result, after a week , the SD card just crashed and corrupted and wanted a format, as the phone stopped reading it.
Is there anything that i'm missing, or shall i just chalk it up to bad sd card and get a sandisk or transend branded card?
It's not your card, it's a fault with the Xperia z, my class 10 SanDisk 32GB got corrupted two days ago as well, lots of folk reporting the same, seems class 4 is ok, any one confirm that?

It really depends on what model you buy for your needs all manufacturers make slow and fast ones. I agree that Sandisk is overpriced on their MSRP but if you shop around, look for deals & price match you will get high quality for a fair price.
I just picked up a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Plus yesterday price matched down to $66.99 CAD, it has up to 80MB/s read and 50MB/s write capabilities and on my Note 4 and it did this:

What cards are supported?
I assume all?
microSD
microSDHC
microSDXC
And what about speed classes? Both: Class 10 and UHS-1?
The question is: will all of them work and if yes then what max read write speed can Note 4 utilize?
Samsung 32gb evo and all is well.

All of them will work.
Maximum speed is utterly dependant on the card. I'm not sure what the theoretical maximum speed the phone could handle, but I'm sure that the card itself will be the limiting factor, not the phone.

Do you record your 4K videos to SD card?
Could you run any SD benchmark with your EVO?
I read some reviews on the net and seems that EVO should be more than enough for normal Note 4 operation (recording videos, watching huge fullhd movies from mkv files).

Would anybody mind to test 32 or 64GB EVO card?
1) Perform a 4K video recording to your SD card.
2) Perform a speed test with any of the test app inside your phone.
Thanks!!
I really have some doubts because this site http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-microsd-card/ says that for 4K recording something faster is needed than EVO.
But on the other hand: 4K recording requires only 6MB/s of sequential writing and EVO can handle up to 19MB/s (at lease every review claims that).
Thanks!!!

Moto G 2nd Gen supports SDHC cards up to 32GB. When inserting an SDHC card, and if the card is good and formatted, the device will display “preparing SD card” and the SD card available storage will be viewable in storage settings. Moto G 2nd Gen natively supports SDHC (FAT32) formatted SD cards. Larger cards will need to be reformatted.

32GB samsung and sandisk class 10 micro sd´s working on KitKat, also a 64 gb sandisk by a friend of mine has been detected.
I have a class 10 32Gb sd-card. Works fine. Only downside in my humble opinion is the way KitKat behaves with an sd-card. You can't just copy files on it and move them where erver you like. Every app gets it's own space apparantly. Never had this issue before, because on my previous device I used a 'patched' version of Cyanogenmod 11.
Now I don't even have root anymore.... But I'll get used to it!
64Gb, class 10 card is working fine with my moto
@sipek please, which brand? picture/something!
As far as I know, even 128gb cards are supported, as long as you format them as FAT32 instead of exFAT.
I haven't tested this though.

I am using a sandisk 32 gig card right now with no issues. I have it partitioned with 6 gigs as ext3 and the rest for storage (for link2sd)
I had a 64 gig card that was running fine on my xt1063, but was having other issues with it...sadly, I took it out and had it in the cupholder in my car and the guys at the car wash vacuumed it up when I took my car in to have it washed.
...64 gig works fine, just leave it in the phone.
You can use a 128GB micro SD even if motorolla tells you it oficially supports up to 32.
It supports up to 32 because micro SD cards of 32 and lower size, are formated in exFat, bigger micro SD cards come formatted in Fat32.
Downloading software on windows to format the SD to exFat will make it work in your device. If you are on Mac you can use Disk Tool and it will work well.

I have sandisk sdhc 16gb card class10 will it support moto g because on internet its showing that its not compatible
128GB
I don't know what the biggest size possible is but I can confirm that I have been using an 128GB micro SD card for the past few months without any issues. 128GB is probably the highest you can get away with at the moment without impacting the performance of the phone or spending prohibitively.
