Also take a look at Benchmark Optimizer Diamond, it does make a difference.

Not sure how this would work, but is it a good idea to stress the SD card ?
Wow.. this increased my phone's speed..
Rafdroid Hd had a 128 value i had 1700 Quadrant score.. after tweaking with this app it jumped to 2000 Q. Score
So this tweak works well with the HD2
P.S: the Lockscreen problem persists.. even the wake up lag.
For me... it didn't work...
It doesn't work on my HD2 running CM7 GB. it made it lag and slower.
I've found wake up lag is related to the speed of the SD card itself. I went from a 32GB C4 to a 8GB C4, but with C10 speeds and that virtually eliminated any wakeup lag.

I'm using a 16GB Sandisk class2. You can't go much slower. I have no wake up lag whatsoever.
But I concur that the SD card could be the reason. You could buy two SD cards of the same type, same manufacturer and one of them would cause lags the other one would not.
For me it's working on class 10 16gb
sorry but this app can create a problem for a SD memory?

You normally get higher scores on the 2nd & 3rd quadrant test, even without tweaks.
This is interesting - has anyone used this application to notably improve a class 10 card performance (he says sitting on an unopened Lexar 32GB class ten whilst waiting for a class 4 to arrive).
Havn't used this app yet but only wanted to comment on those who have lag when trying to unlock or wake up phone. This is due to SD card so try different SD cards. I know that the stock 16GB class 2 card works well with no lag but I also have an 8GB class 6 card and it lags, also have a A-DATA 16GB class 6 with no lag and I recently ordered another A-DATA 16GB class 10, but that one lags. So for some reason not all SD cards are all the same. Just FYI

I have a Class 2 right now. I know, "groan".
But i want to get a HIGHER class.
At what class number on the G1 will I hit the bottleneck of the hardware?
What I'm asking is, is 6 the highest I can go and if I go to 8 it still performs like a 6 due to the slow reader in the phone?
Or can I go up to 8 class, 10 class, etc.
Also, I need someone to confirm that a high-class SDHC (like 8 or 10) even works on this phone, 8 or 16gb kind of thing.
Thanks for your input.
I want to get some o' dem swapz in here.

I used to think grabbing a higher class card would be better too, i've actually bought a class 6 4gb and a class 4 8gb card, truth is it really don't matter what class you have..
Check this thread it made me see the truth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
I haven't really looked at class in detail
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
I'm filling in blanks here
it seems that a card will report it's class to the reader and it is then upto the application to decide if it meets it's requirements.
without pulling apart my G1 I have not been able to determine what the controller is to see find it's specs to see if there is a limit to what it can deal with in terms of through put.
I would like to think that the bottle neck is the card, and that a higher class card would be faster
a simple way of looking at it is that even if the G1 doesn't support 10MB/s
a card which does support 10MB/s is more likely to sustain 6MB/s better than a class 6
Sorry I can't provide a real answer here
I would look at the relative cost of class 6/10
if they are not disproportionate then I would go class 10
but if class 10 is 2 or 3 times the price, I would go class 6 (unless I had cash to throw away)
dmesg
Qualcomm MSM SDCC
Thanks for your input, both of you.
Is that script to increase performance that you linked to beneficial in-rom, or just in recovery?
Does that mean that upgrading the class 2 I already have is pointless??
could someone please run a test with the app called "SD Tools" in the market (someone with class 6)
tell me what rom and what speeds you get.
I get 4.3 mb/s write and 18.5 mb/s read. That's with a class 2 8gb on cos-ds WITHOUT SWAP running. <-- idk if that makes a difference.
I think I have a Kingston class 4 (possibly 6, i'm not sure) and my max was around 5.x mb write and 19.x mb read with SD Tools. That was with 2048kb sd cache.
that's not too much better than mine, the stat i posted above was 128, i got about the same as you with 2048.
It seems like you have to make the jump to class 10 in order to get decent speeds on an android phone.
if you take out the sd card and look at it, it will say the class inside a circle directly on the card.

run a few times and it will average out
on a few runs I get (approx)
write 6.5
read 18.5
this is a class 6
so
some class hedge bets and they are classX+
regardless of class read is the same
so for swap class matters, but you may get lucky
for apps2sd , it probably doesn't make much difference
BUT this is just one benchmark program, it could be flawed
maybe a simple script with time would be better, but then you have the memory caching etc to consider
still it is interesting so far, certainly the writes seem to fit(ish)

could be a hw limit
OR your card was just a re-badged china thing
try without swap running, and the app on internal
that could be getting in the way
the bm app writes to /mnt/sdcard/
Class 6 microSD 8gb, unknown producer (china )
Write speed = 6.5 MB/s
Read speed = 15.2 MB/s
I don't use no modified cache, no swap.
Using 2048kb cache:
Write speed = 6.3 MB/s
Read speed = 18.3 MB/s
Thanks for the cache trick

Hello All,
Which size of microsd you are using for optimus black ? i heard 32GB and 16GB will slow down the phone is it true ?
Currently I use 16GB micro SD Class4, no issue of slow down the phone
I'm currently using a 2gb microsd and it is enough for now so I think you probably should buy a 8gb sd class6.
Use 8GB class 10. I'm not a hardcore console/hh gamer and not using my phone as music player. Just 3 HD fps game and several casual game. Mostly theme and display personalisation stuff.

Yes, the LG website says "External Memory: Micro SD (up to 32GB)"
Thanks for the reply. Micro SD and SDHC makes no difference?
All SD's above 4GB are SDHC (High Capacity), so no, no diffrence.
Interesting. Thx for the reply.

Hi
I have a 8gb PNY micro Sdhc class10 and is enough for me and fast as well.
And only for 13.99euros.
Well it's personal preference..
I just bought an 8Gb Kingston Class 4
For me, 8Gb is sufficient enough, but to others, maybe no.
SanDisk 16GB micro SDHC class 6 works perfect...
32 GB SDHC Class4 from Transcend - no Problems.
It´s so nice to never have to worry about card space when recording video or audio.... i´d never go for a card with less capacity than maximum.
Class 6 Transcend Micro SD
I Think my Read and Write Values say all:

I prefer class 6 as minimal. Non re-encoded video files should have large bitrate so your card must able to handle high bandwidth.
Sorry OOT, Good encoded 720p HD video bitrate for P970 is around 1000-1200kbps and 128kbps audio is enough to play smoothly.
But i won't encode to 1280x720, it is useless because the screen only projecting 800x480. So with 800x480 i can encode with higher video bitrate = better quality.

Who can really answer this one? What is the maximum speed ACE can read data from an SD?
For example a reading speed for a class10 SD can reach 20MB/sec. So can ACE really cope with that?
I am asking this cause I also have a class4 with maximum read speed at 13MB/sec.
So, is there a limit at how fast ACE can read data from an SD? It hasn't got a very powerful processor so is there really a need for a class10?
Do not tell me about write speed, that I know!

don't worry. the bus speeds between the RAM module (most likely a LPDDR1 RAM) and the CPU is much much faster than that (at least 200MB/s). The bus connecting the SD card reader and the CPU also have a good bandwidth and therefore you can be sure that whatever Class rating of your SD card is, it won't go to waste.
As a side point, do take note that Class rating of different brands are not the same in real speeds. E.g. Sandisk Class 2 is faster than Kingston Class 2.

Now go to this link to test the read/write speeds of your card.H2test2 1.4.
Just take note that this app is written by a German and so take some time to slowly navigate it. Also how this thing works is that it auto generates a file and send it back and forth from your computer and the sd card. Which means that ideally you should clear your whole card so that the utility can work. However the utility can work with whatever free space your sd card has currently. Meaning only the read/write speeds of the "empty" space gets tested, not the entire card if you get what i mean.

In SM Megamall. That was on sale - I bought it @ 1,800.00 pesos (about $ 42)
i have this
but i think it is not real class 10 it working like class 8 or class 6
Very nice.
Btw, is this 32GB microsd card class 10 a fake one in your opinion?
It is written on it but since there's no brand nor package, we can't verify...
EDIT: Err, in fact there's a brand, my bad...
You should ask more photos from the vendor to verify...
Dont know if its fake or not. cost $45(php1900) but one thing is for sure, its stable, i no longer have gallery thumbnail problems and faster sd media scanning unlike my previous class4 one.

I found a very cheap sd card on ebay.
$19.00 for a 32GB.

Sizewise 16 gb is just fine for me. But depends pon torre media usage. I shot a lot of 720p videos , have few movies and audio albums. At any time at least 2 nandroid backups. IGo gps ( 400 mb maps).
And still have nearly 2 gb free.
Price difference nowadays is hardly worth considering. It is cheap
If i was buying now it would be the same do i want to spend 18-20 euro for 16 class 10, or 30-35 for 32.
why should I need 32 GB on my phone !!! I really don't get it I think 16 GB is even way more storage and I will never be able to run it out

Pankaja, you are correct. My 32GB Transcend SDCard is now dead. The files saved in the SDCard became permanent. I cannot save more files or delete files already saved. Tried formatting when phone is on or in CWM Recovery. Also tried formatting with card reader. Still no success.
I'm now back to my Sandisk 2GB provided when I bought my phone.
CAUTION! To all other users. I suggest do not buy or use Trancend SDCard for our phone. This is based on actual experience.

Hey guyS
Ive been struggling lately to find a microsd card with good transfer rates to use on this phone it seems that the phone isnt able to get full speed
First I bought a sandisk extreme u3 64gb sdxc which after I tested with a1 sd bench I was only getting 30R - 30W
I thought maybe that was the card or something and went and got a Kodak micro Sdxc u3 64gb which is claiming to give you 95R and 90W but the intresting part is that after test with A1 sd bench this card is also giving me the same 30R and 30W
Any ideas?
Anyone tested any other microsd cards?
Maybe lexar will do a better job...
It's hard finding a decent card just by looking at boxes (and due to how marketing is... cringeworthy).
I was running a Sandisk Extreme Prov30 UHS-1 U3 card in my PC when it had Win10 (but Linux is installed and can't see the iSCSI controller so it's going to go into the Xperia for photos/music).
On the tablet I was getting 60/230MB/s (write/read).
Probably the cheapest fastest cards you can get for the price.
I recommend taking a look at this:
http://www.tweaktown.com/cat/storage/memory-cards/index.html
Here you will find tested cards. Cards that are UHS-1 U3 will work best. UHS-II cards don't necessarily translate to faster speeds just because they're UHS-II.

Also word of advice: Don't buy memory cards off eBay.

thanks for the info, yeah that's right but the problem is that I tried multiple u3 cards on this phone and when I test them with sdtool on android r/w speed wont go more than 30 each!
I know that the card isnt fake and all of them have an advetised speed of at least 50/50 r/w and up to 95/95 r/w
well, that's simply because the sd-card reader is only that fast. Have a look at review first maybe, e.g. the notebookcheck one.
Yeah I just bought a U3 microSD (Kingston SDCA3/32GB) which advertises 90 MB/s read, 45 MB/s write. My Androbench results were only 31 MB/s sequential read and 28.5 MB/s sequential write. In fact this measurement on the phone is slower than the U1 card I bought 2 years ago for my tablet, as measured on my tablet. I don't actually possess any USB 3.0 microSD readers so I don't have any proper way of benchmarking. But my results are consistent with the above experience - it doesn't test at any better than 30/30 on the X Compact. Can anyone provide a concrete example of a microSD doing better than 30/30 on the X Compact?
Yeah, I've been using a Sandisk 128 v30 card and it's good for the camera, but not so great for apps -- I'm noticing slowdown on boot (the app icons on home screen actually silhouette out for 5sec then load). Telegram likes to cache the most, and all the others run at boot or in the background -- thing is I don't even have a lot of apps on this device to begin with (all of 4). This card gets much greater speeds than advertised when it's thrown inside a Lenovo tablet (it's using PCIe on the connector).
This is definitely a device limitation and not an SD card issue.
Hmm well that's disappointing. So far I'm only using the card for Hearthstone and images.
I guess this might explain why adoptable storage isn't available stock on this device. Even if you have a fast enough card, the hardware throttles transfer rates.
