Hey folks,
I thought you guys would be interested in this blog I came across:
TINYURLDOTCOM /l6xafk4
I just tried the instructions (although had to tweak them slightly as I'm using TWRP) and I now have OK Google detection while not giving up the phone's understanding of my native tongue! (I found US english struggled with my pronunciation).
I figure this is pretty safe as it's easy to rollback, just delete the en-GB folder after and I assume everything is back to normal. For TWRP you don't need so many of the commands, you can mount within TWRP, and reboot within TWRP. Although I recommend an NANDROID backup first!

(Sorry, it won't let me link properly as I'm a new user - it's not spam though honest! If some nice person could make these proper links I'd much appreciate it)
Thanks,
Brett

Just tested this and it works a treat!

Is it just me or does OK GOOGLE not work at all on other launchers? I use Nova Prime and... nope. When I switch to default launcher, works fine.

The OK Google works fine on all launchers but on the homescreen it only works with the default Google GEL/Velvet launcher.
What does that mean... "works on all launchers" but on the homescreen etc...
contradictory?
Did it via Root Explorer, took about 10 seconds, and job done.

Your original post says "does OK GOOGLE not work at all on other launchers". The answer to that is yes it works on all launchers. I am using nova and if I open up the Google search app and say OK Google it activates voice search. However the feature where you can say OK Google on the homescreen because GEL is 'always listening' is not possible on other launchers.
Is that better?
Finally I can use "OK Google" and... it's totally unuseful! I have to be on homescreen to use it, at just 1 click on the mic icon. I thought I could use with display off, or at least at the lockscreen...
Brilliant! I now have English... err... English! Google Now is a revelation. It works! Thank you

Yeah it's not really useful at all, just a gimmick. Nice to have though, I guess.
I've also noticed this does more than just enable the hotword, I'm now getting updates for previous searches, which is a US only feature.
Wroks great with french from onmirom , Thank you
I've noticed that now I can't download offline language Spanish in Google Now options... can you?

I have a stock android 6.0 with google launcher instaled, and sudenly the weather card is not being showed anymore.
The settings are correct, with the option to show the weather conditions.
Already tried to clean the cache from the app but didnt changed anything.
Thanks for the help.
It happened to me either. I don't know why..
I sometimes get weather updates but most of the time I don't.
If you turn on location access you will get then. It appears to work only with that right now...

No. The problem is with brazilian servers due to layout change that is about to happen.
If you change the language to English, it works normally.
Wait that soon this will be solved.

Because i imagine google assistance is not only using unnecessary battery but seems to have a mind of her own and switches on without me saying jack. Thx in advance for help for this dummy.
Its ok ive found the settings..
plss share., how did u off it..
There's a toggle switch for Google Assistant in the Google Search app's settings.
You can also permanently remove Google Assistant by switching your Google app's language to anything other than English (US).
I was able to create a simple MIT App Inventor 2 app with the voice recognition. On Amazon Fire 7, it wasn't working in the beginning However, i installed the google app and the voice recognition is now working. What ever i say in Korean, it's able to recognize and display the language. However, if i disable the wifi, only voice recognition working is English. Kinda make sense. Is there a Korean voice pack i can download so that the app would work in Korean without the wifi?
TIA,
Thomas.

Adding additional languages for offline voice recognition is an option within the Google app. However, not all capabilities/settings may be present on the the limited implementation of Google Play Services/Framework that is used with unrooted FireOS. Check on Google app settings to see what's available.
The google app did have the offline voice recognition setting and korean is supported. I've tested out with the app inventor app and it's working great! Thank you!

Search language and region, just change it to the supported region
Thank you Jonyue, but I couldn't read the posts (although the phone is from China, I'm not
I tried the search language & region though and changed the country to a different choice from the list - Germany & Singapore (but left the language at English of course) but it didn't change the assistant
Unless there is somewhere within Celia to change this (I've just changed the main phone settings.
