Low benchmark score in performance settings - Xiaomi Mi 5 Questions & Answers

I know I know benchmark is useless, it's not everything about a phone, but please benchmarking can at least assure me that everything is working according to settings and what deliver what the phone promised. I have a Mi 5 64gb and using AICP ROM. I've been benchmarking on Antutu and average around 125k but on Miui I got around 136k. I thought it must be the kernel settings so I switched governor to performance and they dropped even harder 110k in Xceed kernel, OC DragonXia i got 100k... Is this normal? I tested on Geekbench 4, but the same thing happened. What can I do about this?

I think it's the ROM. I'm using the AOSP CAF ROM with OC DragonXia kernel, and not only is performance buttery smooth but benchmarks are high. I've attached screenshots showing how the phone runs with all my apps and dual sim enabled. I have the 3GB 32GB model that has slower RAM too.
But ultimately benchmarks mean nothing. You just need to concern yourself whether you're happy with your phone's performance or not, and if not just change ROM/Kernel/Kernel settings.

It is, but I find most LOS based ROMs for the Mi5 have bad performance. OC works on DragonXia, my phone is up from 1.8 to 2.3GHz

I tried out your ROM yesterday but there were no phone or contact app, is it supposed to be that way?

Yes, you only install what you need. Besides, the phone and contact app is included in GAPPS, if you flashed it it should be there. Else you can just install it from the Play Store, it works just as well.

[Q] Best Galaxy Ace Overclock Frequancy... And something else thanks

Hey guys
I know their probably another thread out there with this in it but... Yeah. But go ahead troll me lol, im still a bit of a noob.:silly:
Anyways, i have a Galaxy Ace s5830. I have Beats with smooth sense ROM. I had it upto 883MHz Yesterday but after i turned it off then back on ROM Toolbox reverted it to 806MHZ. 883MHz seemed a lot faster even though some people get theirs close to 1GHZ
My phone afterwards rebooting had issues such as the phone becoming un-responsive when i was even doing nothing (maybe the overclock to 883MHz had some short term effect?) But the phone seemed fine after safely turning it off then back on several times. Still works perfectly i got scared when it started to become un-responsive. But it works well now i have also used pimp my ROM, and the scripts work like a charm. Especially the call quality one (it uses bravia engine or something?). But with pimp my ROM wi-fi and network tweaks it completely broke wi-fi saying wi-fi connecting... Then saying under the network name 'Error'. Dam it took so long to get the IP address then said error like i said lol
At the frequency 883MHZ the phone seemed stable and faster than ever before, i did change it in small increments
So just wondering, what is the safe and most reliable frequencies to set it at? I currently use 225Min and 806 Max. With the userspace governer.
I know the terms of ' Safe ' and overclock don't mix (sorta like water and my dads S2 :crying: ).
Im also considering buying a 2450MAH battery from ebay for about 5.99 AUD. Any suggestions on should it be okay and better? But i mainly would like to knwo about the overclcoking lol.
So yeah, basically what is a good frequency to set it at? Is 883MHZ okay? Am i going to fry it out or completely brick or damage the phone or cpu if i set it at 883MHZ? Would love to buy a new phone but i need to save im only 14
So yeah please help me and you could help others too. Please be welcomed to troll me
I plan on having this phone another 3-4 Months before i consider buying the S2 or Galaxy note when their cheap (like really cheap)...
Like i said please help, and feel welcomed to troll me when you do help :highfive:

That battery is a fake and has been confirmed as such. If you want a higher cap. battery get a 1500mAh or 1600mAh. I don't like messing with the clocking, good luck to you.
Thanks

Sorry for my 'Noobiness'.
What battery do you reccomend? or should i consider getting a AA battery to USB power charger?
i'm pretty comfortable with 825 or 844 mhz
It's pretty good with 614 MHz lol

Right now I am just using the stock one. I personally wouldn't change my battery to anything other than stock, but people have reported that 1500mAh or 1600mAh work well. I wouldn't use anything that has a higher capacity than that though. Also, if it's very inexpensive it's probably not real.
Clocking actually goes on the rom. I've seen people having OC over 1gHz & still stable with the mad kernel but I gave up clocking as I didn't see much of a difference & also underclocking started giving me FCs on some heavy apps while it was all fair in the unclocked state. And again, there's no such thing as a best frequency. You find your own values. What works well for him might mess up your phone rebooting all by itself. Stock batteries are always fine & they also keep you under warranty. Anyone ever wondered why the phone manufacturers didn't implement clocking as a part of it ? Stability is the word. I've seen here, I've seen there. East or west, stock is the best ! Try keeping as close to stock as possible, just to have that extra touch of safety & stability

Hello all.
I was reading this thread and became interested in overclocking. In my case my device is:
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830L (labeled as GT-S5830 by CyanogenMod)
CyanogenMod-7.2.0-cooper stable (Android version 2.3.7)
Kernel 2.6.35.7-perf-CL882825 ([email protected] #21)
I was checking in CM settings -> Performance -> CPU settings that I could adjust min and max clockspeed, but in max frequency the maximum one is the same processor's speed, 800 MHz. So my kernel doesn't support overclocking.
After a search in the forums I found there are plenty of custom kernels for this legacy device. But I'm relatively new to the kernel world, so I wanted to ask you for advise. What custom kernel could I try for my device for overclocking? Or King Android, what custom kernel are you using?
It'd the first time I do the overclocking stuff, I'd like to try it to see if some higher quality mp4 videos (which are run by MX Player only in software acceleration) can run better, as well as some games and emulators.
I'm also kind of a noob as you can see. If you want to troll/scold me...
Thank you all.

Hi you can try FireKernel or BlackHawk kernel. Use the search function to find them easily. Both supports Overclocking and are made for CM7. [MAKE SURE THEY SUPPORT YOUR S5830L]
At the moment I'm with Democracy ROM which is based on unofficial CM7 and I don't really feel the need of overclocking. It is all smooth with firekernel at
Min 245
Max 806
Governor smartassv2
Sent from my... oh wait, who cares?
I did my search.
Maybe I forgot to mention I haven't installed a custom kernel before... Does the kernel come as a file itself, or along a CM7 custom rom? And if it comes as a file itself, how can I install it? I already mentioned what CM7 I have installed. It's the "official" stable one.
Would OCing help to improve videos and games performance? i.e, faster, no lag...
You can set it to whatever your phone can handle. Mine can't go past 844Mhz otherwise apps start force closing and such. If your phone is completely stable at 883Mhz then you're good.
As for the battery, no. It's a fake. Buy a 1500mAh like I did. Works like a charm and it brought 3. Lasts a little longer and it's really amazing. Had it for a while now. Still have one in the pack, only been using 2 when I don't get to charge my phone. Really handy.

OCing helps the phone over all. But remember, without much free ram, OC won't really change much. You need a balance of ram and CPU. Like me, I use swap and OC to 844Mhz. Even if it's a low OC, it's still better than nothing.
1. @SuperAce609: I have 104 Mb free RAM out of 278 Mb total RAM. Mine is Galaxy Ace S5830L with CM 7.2. Would OC work for me? Up to what frequency?
And how can you have 600 Mb of RAM? Is your device really an Ace?
2. There's still a doubt I haven't been able to find out myself: does the kernel come as a file itself, or along a CM7 custom rom? And if it comes as a file itself, how can I install it? I was suggested FireKernel or BlackHawk ones...
Any help?

1.- Every Ace is diferent..some Ace's can go up to 960 Mhz while other just 844 Mhz, the thing is: try it yourself overclocking in small jumps. Swap is a small amount of memory of your SD card, that Android use it like if where RAM, but decreases SD card life...
2.- Some Kernel came Built in on Some particullary ROM's but generally cames on a CWM Flashable zip; FireKernel & BlackHawk are specially for CM7; In my opinion FireKernel is the best... And there are others like Battery Extender Kernel or NimsKernel but these Kernel are only for Stock ROM's...
I hope you find useful my info...
Thank you, Blake2893.
Then there's just 2 doubts left, if you don't mind.
There's a fair number of custom CM7.2 roms with FireKernel in the developer forum. Is there one you or someone else could say is the best in terms of stability and least number of bugs? Or is that something I should test myself in the S5830L?
The Ace S5830/S5830L has 278 Mb total RAM by default. If I understand well, you're implying I could modify SWAP partition in order to increase RAM and, probably if lucky, with this make OC work better. How can I do that? Do I also need a custom kernel/rom for that?
The best stable Roms so far are the stock GingerBread based ones... but if you aks me about CM7 there a few like Apocalypse rom(ICS styled ROM) with the FireKernel that suports swap I think...
and for Swap you only need a Kernel with Swap enabled and a SWAP Partition on your Sd card...
lets see im fine and stable with 979 mhz without reboot for 9 hours
overclock is depend on your hardware
best over clock freq.

Low 3D MARK scores post yours.

So, i'm getting a really low 3D Mark score for a "gaming" device like this, i think that Nvidia do something wrong with the Tegra 3 GPU, i got it running at 650Mhz and i get like 3000 points... other devices on the same range get a lot better scores... what to do to get better 3D on our 4X?
Well this is my score...I'm not sure our much other devices get, but from the results our O4X is in the same range as the Note 2...so I guess that those results aren't that bad...
Btw I used the official CM10.1.0 rom with stock cm kernel...

Are you running anything else? I ran at stock speeds (no overclock anything) and got 4100-4200 on five straight runs. I have no idea what a normal score for the Tegra 3 is supposed to be.
I get same result. My kernel nothing touched from defaults.
I think it is ok all tegra 3 devices get similar scores one x+ gets about 3800.

for benchmarking, stock rom > aosp rom > cm based roms > other roms, from my experience. even when you bring custom kernels to the table, it's the same.
edit:
f.e., on quadrant, stock with custom kernels could go around 6100, aosp rom we have went to 5500, cm based went up to 4800, while others went up to 4500.

yeah, that might be the issue. unfortunately, tegra3 in our phone didn't quite live up to my expectations, which sux since even nexus7 has better performance than our phone. didn't try dead space either, so cant really tell. i did try vice city and nfs, they ran quite good on stock for me.

and i can post my image of benchmark with 3200 score, overclocked . since my score is as valid as yours, we might as well take the average that's on the website - and the average number says that nexus7 performs better than o4x.
on the other hand, i dont game much these days, and the games i do run, run well enough. so, it's just a benchmark, a number; however i have expected tegra3 in this phone to have higher number than tablet with practically identical chip in it

While it is indeed just a number, it does actually measure something. Unless my configuration is somehow exploiting it specifically to achieve those scores, you might wish to see why you underscore so much and fix it. The phones are identical after all, and no one is talking about fancy coolers or the like as exists in PCs.

I did some testing, and may have the answer for you. The vanilla iodak sets the CPU to 1.7GHz and the 3D and 2D GPU to 520MHz, all of which are maximum values, hence the very good 3DMark scores. If you use an app such as TegraOverclock and set those values you should get the same scores or at least very close to them. I did notice that any attempt to apply an overclock to the GPU was instantly rejected. If I tried to set it to 600MHz it was immediately set at... 300MHz, so as far as I can tell, 520 is the highest possible.

it puts to 300mhz because is the minimun, in 520mhz the minimun is 200...
Edit: flashed back V20C, getting 3570 stock, i will flash Iodak again.. and test... without donwloading tegra overclock...
Edit again, this is with iodak v6 stock settings it seems that thegra overclock app reduces the performance of our devices...
Stock kernel has its gpu running at 200mhz base, scaling up to 416. Custom kernels can increase that, which leads to higher scores. I got 4k by increasing gpu to 520mhz. I don't see how just having tegra oc installed could break anything

Better ROM or kernel configuration for games?

As long as the Kernel does not underclock your CPU/GPU for Battery Life, any Kernel/ROM should be fine.

That's what I would think. The hardware on this phone is killer. Only bettered by Snapdragon 835 phones (or the upcoming phones for this year).
I wonder if the top poster is having a specific issue with games? Or just looking to tweak/overclock, despite no real issues?

I'm guessing the latter. He's probably on Stock, and he just wants to know if there's any possibility on increasing Performance in Workloads/Games. Nothing much else.
If he does want some recommendations, Caesium Kernel or ElementalX paired with Stock or a highly AOSP based ROM like NOS should do well. Not that the other Kernels or ROMs will be much different, this is just my experience.

right now I am using the z-unleasht, it runs well the games but it was out of curiosity if there was some configuration of Kernel so that it does not drink so much battery and render better
You should try helix engine: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/themes/app-helix-engine-v1-0-beta-3-t3745746/
Then use "AKT balanced" (change in settings). You can choose for every App other profiles -> change it to performance for your games.
Then you have a fast smartphone with great battery life, and performance while gaming.
You need to be rooted

Some games can have a very significant frame increase. This does not happen with all games, not everyone gets such a high boost, but you can feel the touch a bit more responsive in most games and apps.
This game on the ultra before was not playable. See the frame rate before and after the driver:
I flashed it and i can confirm now my phone feels better specially on games

by the sounds of it, yes.
I flashed the driver a couple of hours ago, for now seems to be fine, not known obvious improvements maybe I have to look a little better, in any case it crashed once WhatsApp and while playing a game an hour ago the phone was frozen for a few seconds. ( Rom los 14.1 )

I think it will be more noticeable if you go back to the old driver, maybe you will notice more of lag input. About the freeze, I have not had it yet, I'll try to repeat the error. Are you using custom kernel, CPU voltage settings? which applications were you using?
What am I doing wrong? The performance is even slightly worse with this mod. Only on AnTuTu GPU is a little bit better...

I've been using the same rom and the same custom kernel (Tuned kernel) for an entire month with intense undervolting, but I've never had any problems with these settings that I've been using for more or less a year. Only yesterday this happened to me, and this morning the playstore crashed. These crashes have been 3 for now, but I have never had them before, but they are not continuous crashes, only once and then everything goes perfectly. The game I was playing was this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.disney.wheresmywater2_goo

I still can not say exactly where it will increase or lose fps. I did some benchmarks and realized that in some cases there may be a decrease or increase in the frame rate. I am testing the driver for a few months and whenever I return to the previous drive I can see delay in the games, I will continue testing.

I think you're better now. A new version will be posted shortly.
New version:
Fixed low performance in some apps
Fixed the instability in roms LOS-14.1 (I hope).

Mokee 7.1 + Tuned Kernel

Leeco le 2 Benchmarks and performance

I know that our 2016 le 2 is not going to break any land speed records but I'm just curious about what figures it can post. I am a fan of benchmark scores and before you crucify me, yeah! I know benchmarks don't show real world performance. But would it hurt to run them? FOR SCIENCE??
Anyway, let's get away from the politics a bit and share the best benchmark scores we've managed on our lowly le 2. It doesn't matter if it is the famous Antutu, Geekbench, 3DMark, benchmark pi, a1 SD bench, or whatever you had a go at. Just share it here for the world to see.
Sharing Format
Please attach a screenshot of whichever benchmark you ran and the score you got. Also tell us which ROM you were using, if you had installed any custom kernel, overclocks, and any other tweaks that could have led you to that marvelous score.
Example:
I recently did a 3DMark test on my le 2 (find the screenshot(s)) attached. My phone is running SmallEUI version 3, illusion kernel v. 2.5, and I had all cores locked on performance. I also had a fan blowing at my phone for a cooling breeze.

Nice scores. My phone on PE 9 scored 67k on Antutu. Must have been a glitch. Were you running any mods?
Edit:Since you cannot post links yet I've taken your images and put them here to help anyone viewing this in one stop. Hope you don't mind.
Nop. Immediately after flashing rom ran the tests. Is your phone new? Which version, x526?

My phone is less than 2 months old. I must have done something wrong to get such a low score. Your 3D bench looks like mine when I was running smallEUI. I'm installing Arrow OS Pie today. Someone recommended it to me so I am going to try it today.
Edit: again reposted your photos from imgur.
Mine is week and half. I really want to flash bunch of roms, but this one just works too good so I can't justify it. Have fun and good luck. Btw I noticed in other threads other people having ~70k score, so it's not just you.

Yesterday I tried Arrow OS pie and Lineage 16. They had same problems as most other pie ROMS so I removed them both. My phone is a x526, the 3/64 GB version. On Arrow OS with overload kernel, I got 110k Antutu. Lineage got 105k with stock kernel. But performance is nothing without stability. Especially the camera because my phone is a daily driver. How's your camera working?

Damn, 110k. My brothers rn5 got 115k lol. Latest PE is great. It's stable, I don't notice any UI lag. Camera used to close before when trying to record or night mode, especially if I was in a dark room, but now never. I wiped cache before and after dirty flashing update.
Mine is 3/32gb version
Here's mine, I'm using Havoc OS 9 latest build with Overload Kernel

111k is quite impressive. I'm pretty sure we cannot do much better.

I'm pretty sure overclocking will work but that will ruin its stability. But for the sake of benchmark, I guess we can push higher scores

Yes, overclocking works but just a little bit. Stability goes out the window as soon as you start overclocking the SD652. Since it's a 28nm fab chip, it can't go much faster without catastrophic failure.
I read that according to Qualcomm it can do a maximum of 2.2 ghz at 16nm fab process. That's just 400 mhz faster than the current max speed.

How did you get such a high memory speed? Is the phone stable at that performance level?
After many and many test ... this is my result:
Havoc 2.8 (pie)+ some tweak to thermal engine = 119k-120k on antutu score
Havoc 2.8 (pie) + illuminate kernel + some tweak with smartpack kernel manager + some tweak to thermal engine = 120k-121k on antutu score
If u want more info: ask here and i share screenshot of antutu score and my configurartion and mod to obtain this score.
Peace!
From where I can download illuminate kernel.please provide the link .
