Hi..
I just purchased a P9 and I am pretty certain something is wrong. The battery life has been really bad from day one. I have updated to android 7, without improvements. The phone even gets hot (around 39-40 degress celsius) from just browsing simple apps like facebook. The phone was at 100 procent 6,5 hours ago and now I am at 20%, and I haven't really been using it a lot.. I attached some pictures, they are in Danish, but I think you should be able to understand the point - otherwise let me know.
Thanks in advance

I know this would improve the battery life a bit, but I don't want to turn that stuff off, since I use it
You could also do a factory reset and in the worst case send it in. The high temperatures are normal (I think) and my phone the EVA-AL10 has also temperatures around 40°C
I guess I will have to try factory resetting. Could it be it came with faulty software from the factory, since it has been like this from day one?
Yes, could be or also a hardware error.
I had problems on my old device, a S 3 Neo running CM 12.1 and a custom kernel. For some time it didn't even charge and had a bad battery life so I needed to reflash the kernel.

Why would you keep on GPS, bluetooth and Wifi went you are not using it? it will just drain the battery
Mine has 20 hours and I just have wifi on while I listen to my music.
Return the phone immediately. It is not normal at all, it may pose safety risk due to the possibility of the battery leaks (imagine the short circuit in the battery makes the phone heating up).
The only thing I don't keep on is Bluetooth and NFC and I get pretty good battery life.

Jesus Christ, when I read such post I seriously think that some people here NEVER leave their rooms and have no idea how other people live...
Its the same reasoning like I would say that I dont use Facebook... so why others use it? its waste of time, turn it off!
Or why do you set high brightness of screen on your phone? Keep it low, and look for shadow if you want to check something on your phone!
Open your eyes and look at some aspect of your life in wider perspective. Some people actually buy phones that have GPS, NFC, Bluetooth and WiFi because they use it.
GPS? I use it lots of time in my car, and also I have enabled localization in it if I would lost it(or it would be stolen)
Lots of people use Bluetooth headsets and other devices, I for example use sport smartband.... that guess what? use bluetooth to connect witch my phone!
NFC? I, and probably mosts of people use NFC as a paying method, I have synced my card with it and I pay using my phone.
WiFi? Well isnt that obvious? we all use internet all the time, and some people, like me don like spending all mobile data limit so quick, so we use WiFi.
So now you should get it, that if someone use such features, it would be SUPER ANNOYING, and slow as hell to turn it on and off all the time just to use it everytime we need it.
I have all that enabled and... guess what? I still can get two days of normal usage on my P9.
If someone have problem with battery, turning off half of the phone features IS NOT A SOLUTION.
Looking at informations provide by OP, its more a software problem or even Hardware so first of all full factory reset is must have, then if it still occur, flash other version of OS, so make sure that current one is not bugged. Then if its not help, its obvious hardware issue, and should be dealt by Huawei support or any show that is licensed by them to fix their devices.

Because we bought a SMARTphone. My battery is bad too, after the update to EMUI 5. My usage is the same as with MM, and now is terrible. I did a factory reset, but it didn't change anything.

Thank you. I guess that sums up my own reasons why I have these things turned on.
I will factory reset later and see if the problem is solved
Thanks for alle the replies!
If you will make full factory reset, I would suggest instead flash new ROM if you know how and you have time for that.
Knowing life, and knowing how random those battery problems are, you can eliminate two probable causes of that: 1. bugged system configuration 2. bugged system version it self. You can choose the same OS version that you currently have, its a matter of "making sure" that its good.
I also noticed that your media server and mobile signal take a bit too much battery that it should. Media server is responsible for refreshing and accessing music/video/pictures by other apps, especially music players used in background can force it to work all the time. Just make sure that media apps dont work in the background when they dont need to.
In terms of Mobile signal, I suggest using 2G/3G mode without LTE, that is seriously crappy technology totally not optimized for mobile devices. Also as far as you dont stream/download fullHD videos, 3G mode is really sufficient for daily usage.
Also few tips about making sure that your apps dont use what they dont need to:
1. In settings go to battery option and then "close apps after screen is turned off". Turn off ALL apps, and leave only those that need to work in background, like WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.
2. Turn on Power Saving mode, I didnt notice any performance drops, so its should not make your life harder :]
3. Use Huawei app for optimization(eg, create that small widget for it). Its really handy and even if difference is small, it can make keep battery life longer + its delete trash files from phone. Its small and compared to other separate apps like that, its doing just one job and nothing more.
4. Check your apps permissions option in settings. turn off access to part your device that app dont really need.
5. Most important: Go to your app list, and turn off internet access in "data usage" section. Especially turn off background internet access for apps that dont need internet if they are not used. I personally turn off access for most off apps and games, because most of them use internet only to shw ads... so its really handy.
check the protected apps
im pretty sure they all are set to active even after screen off

A bit ott there. I was just suggesting it, I have seen maybe people who leave gps etc when they dont need it on.
When you in a building gps does not work that well, so for it drains the battery looking for a signal.
That is all I was pointing out.

I'm running EMUI 5.0 (B378) and my battery drains like crazy.
Even with no active usage of the phone, I hardly get 12h of battery life.
On EMUI 4.x (same apps installed!) I've gotten 24-48h even with several phone calls during the day, WhatsApp chatting, Bluetooth audio streaming and 1-2h WiFi tethering. Loved it!
Unfortunately I couldn't find the root cause for this yet, but with their Nougat update Huawei completely ruined the P9. I really hope, they'll release an optimized version soon!

I'm looking for a new phone, so if someone could answer these questions I would really appreciate it.
1. Is it possible to change the font size of the text on this phone for menus, sms, web browsing, apps etc.. everything in general?
2. Just something I heard not sure if it's true but, does the super AMOLED really use 2x the power for white color backgrounds than for ANY other color? That would be really bad for web browsing which I intend to use quite a lot.
3. How much does the battery last with only web browsing over wifi and music player in the background?
4. Any tips about Galaxy S or things you don't like about it? (whatever comes to your mind really)
thanks
Well , at least i got no problems with the baterry life at all , i can use it all day with music on and playibg games browsing etc... Also the super amoled is simply amazing. Overall i really like the phone at all points , the only disadvantages of it are the lag problem wich can easily be fixed and hopefully by samsung in the nearby future. Also its knowb that the gps is not working well but i didnt try this yet
be more specific.
the GPS works
the problem people are complaining about is that the GPS is not accurate enough for some people

Do you mean 'How long does it last with just some regular web browsing and music playing ?' or do you mean 'How long can I browse the net for before I kill the battery ?'
The first one: the battery will last you just fine to look up a few things here and there and generally be a daily driver.
The second one: A lot less than you think. You will get maybe 3ish hours with the screen lit between charges. The level of brightness and other things on the phone can change this, but seriously, don't be thinking about spending a great deal of time with the screen active unless you have some source of power.
Either way, this is not a problem with the SGS, ALL phones with big screens regardless of os or manufacturer have problems with battery life, at least in the sense that they never last as much as you'd want to.
As for any other tips and tricks:
Check your GPS when you get it out of the box, then apply one of the fixes if need-be. Some people find that out of the box, they either can't get a lock, or there is a lack of accuracy. I got the first problem, but the fix works fine and now I can satnav with the best of them. The accuracy isn't perfect, but good enough. Before I have been shown as driving 10 yards off the road in a field but it corrected within 30 seconds and its not like it became unusable. I have never had a problem with using the navigation. It has ALWAYS got me where I want to be.
Secondly, for gods sake use a lagfix, even if you don't get lag. As you put more apps on and fill the memory up more, you'll eventually get some slow down, so you may as well nip it in the bud.

Could someone answer the first question please?
Here I thought of another one... Does the alarm clock work with the phone closed?
Fonts can be changed depending if app supports it. I use lcd density changer. And of cause alarm works but do you mean when phone is totaly powered off? No idea

Not sure how to interpret "phone closed". Screen off, yes it works. Phone in a case, yes it works. Phone off, no it doesnt work. If I've missed what you've meant please clarify.

My bad, I meant with phone OFF.
Well.. that's actually quite sad. Is it possible to make it work with an app or by rooting the phone?
The Nexus 4 is getting better with time. 4.3 went crazy on me so often I can't tell you, Google Keep, Calendar, Google Now! (now off) and other rogue apps causing wakelocks left and right... then KitKat came - with a rough start - and since on 4.4.2, I can't recall a single wakelock battery drainage. So much so that my utter disappointment of WLDetector unsupported then complicated on ART 4.4 quickly went away, and like task killers back in the day, wake fighting now seems like deeds of distant past...
So yeah, standby improved a great bit, just the other days I cracked the 100 hour barrier (not much stuff done, but with WiFi & hi accuracy on), so things are pretty nice. Now when traveling a lot, high accuracy taxes the battery plus ART runtime (the best thing in 2013) appears to be a bit heavier on resources. But oh the goodies of it! Spent like 2 hours last week playing around with the Z1, Z1 compact, Note 3, G2, couple of Lumias and HTCs, and all were noticeably laggier - no, they all had lags and stutters, this Nexus doesn't. Other than the choppy framerates of Real Racing 3 heh... We have an AndroiPhone on our hands, guys!
The 3rd thing I wanna say is how awesome and 'goodbye Nova' Action Launcher is, one home screen, swype right for app list, left for bookmarks/custom widgets, up for recents, down for notifications, tap on icons to launch app, swype over to pop-up folders or widgets - this thing is so simple and useful! Awesome to get the app & swype widget menu in any app too.

2014 on the Nexus 4 has been quite awesome so far for me! How about you?
Wakelock? What's that?
No seriously, after the 4.4.2 KK update, everything went from good to great! Battery life really improved! So it all boils down to which ROM and kernel you're going to use to drive your Nexus 4. Quite happy with what i have right now.
Without wakelocks your device wouldnt get up from deep sleep to get notifications, etc. For example WhatsApp has 250+ wake-locks. Hence wakelocks arent bad. Wakelocks turn into a bad thing when they are unnecessary i.e the device will wake up for no reason or wont go to deep sleep, hence lesser battery life.
A partial wakelock means the CPU is ON, but the screen is OFF.
A full wakelock means the CPU and Screen are ON. (we don't really need to worry about this)
So the whole concept of saying u haven't had wakelocks since 2013 is flawed.
Here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/kernel-wakelocks-t1462020
Well, I wish I could be as fortunate as you are. I have massive issues with msn_hsic_host kernel wakelock. Pretty much had it since I bought the phone a year ago. My feeling is that it got worse again with 4.4
On wifi everything is fine. On mobile data it can be ok or terrible. No way to tell why or when. A reboot solves it but I usually doesn't notice until the battery is already drained.
So my options seems to be to reboot the phone everytime I leave a wifi network or to use my Nexus as a dumphone. Right now I have background data restricted so it is pretty much a dumphone. Another option would be throw out this piece of **** and buy a good phone.

Thanks for sharing but I have already googled my *ss off about this, nothing seems to help (other than disabling mobile data). I found 2 threads in google products forum about this where google employees admit that they are aware of the issue and investigating. Only problem is that those responses are many months old and the threads are closed due to inactivity.
Haven't done a factory reset on 4.4.2 but I did a clean install when moving to 4.4 - really hope to avoid losing all my data again.
Maybe I need to try to move away from stock and try a different ROM/kernel but that was one of the main reasons I bought the nexus, to have the latest android without having to flash. To easy to get addicted :silly:

I'm completely stock 4.4.2. Google Now and location off. No "shadowy" apps, just mainstream popular apps on play store.
Still terrible wakelocks. With wifi or background data restricted it behaves "as it should".

Stock unrooted 4.4.2 on ART (no FR), no Now!, 2G network preference (I'm almost exclusively near WiFi), Action Launcher with 6-7 widgets updating, GPS high accuracy mode. Wifi always on, but auto-search for networks off, no location sharing etc.
However today I installed Google Now Launcher, which means Now is active, let's see how it treats standby, probably bad. Oh and BTW, I run Google Now Launcher run over Action Launcher so I still retain the nice side-swype function, so it's a good mix, although GNL is quite limited and I'd prefer having "OK Google" listening on AL.
In other news: I did 2 further things to simplify my life:
- remove the dust and fingerprint collecting screen protector, tapping feels much nicer, navigation is much easier screen is a lot cleaner and the gorilla glass doesn't collect finger oil as much. Seriously guys, don't ruin your experience with cases and protectors, you treat your phone right, and it will treat you back
- turn off lockscreen. Since I look after my phone, there's little chance of theft and there's still locking option from any computer, so why lockscreen then? Whatever that was on it is on my homescreen (DashClock widget with notifications, camera icon plus everything else), lockscreen is... redundancy
At a good place right now on 4.3. Have everything I need: touch control, pie, halo, lte. Less I look for wakelocks, the more I notice the phone does pretty decent on battery. One time I came home from work with 74% battery (min usage- about 2 hour talk time on bluetooth). I never turn of lte and wifi. :good:

As wrote in the title I am still on MArshmellow, so nothing apparently related to the Nougat things that are happening this days for the OP3T.
Coming from a Nexus 5, I started my OnePlus experience two days ago with the OnePlus 3T, I have performed a full clean install without restoring settings from my Google account, and I have started to soffer of an huge and significant "Google Play Service" battery drain.
I have tried:
- From the app menu, Goolge Play Services: "Memory - Manage space - Delete data"
- Disabling the automatic Google backups for account and apps settings
- Turn GPS and localization off
- Disable Google Now and all it's features
all this helped a bit but on the other hand searching here and on XDA I saw that many people, coming from differente devices, are suffering of this and until now, or maybe I have not found it yet, no one has found something that seems the real cause with a consequent real solution.
I have to admit that I have choosen to buy the OnePlus 3T for his battey life performances and that I am a little frustrated about this battery drain because it does not allow me to fully enjoy this wonderful device.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks a lot for your availability and for your time.
Update to OOS 4
Say hello to the Mobile Radio Active bug. I can see from your charts that you're suffering from it. It is a big in Android since Lollipop. It is still present in Nougat. The app reporting the usage is not actually the cause. (For me, my browser shows it.)
The bug displays itself as high amounts of Mobile Radio Active time when it should be turned off instead.
There is no real fix. The Mobile Radio Active fix available for xposed doesn't work fully.
My configuration still suffers from it BUT much less. As in, I get great battery life and only occasion does the mobile radio active level go above CPU time. Here's my config:
I'm using OxygenOs 3.5.4 right now (but I've ran this with Suntans ROM so it should be fine on other ROMs) with Frankly Kernel R5.
Then I install xposed, with DS battery saver and Airplane Mode Helper. I have the MRA fix module active just in case. I also install Amplify and Greenify. You'll want to manage the config of these but the defaults do help.
With this set up, I have my phone switch off its data when the screen is off. This is the important part of the config that helps fix the bug.
Note that the Smart Network module for xposed is supposed to switch the data off too, but I find if I use it instead of DS battery saver, the bug returns.
This specific combination of software and config has taken me months of research to get right. Hopefully these pointers will help you.
---------- Post added at 09:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:40 PM ----------
Also, don't go to 4.0. battery life with this config is better than using 4.0. (standby drain is much less)

With this set up, I have my phone switch off its data when the screen is off. This is the important part of the config that helps fix the bug.

So, let me try to get into it... Doing this I am going to lose every mobile signal data while my screen is off or maybe there is some "trigger" that "every x time" active the mobile radio" in order to make my phone able to receive notifications?
Greenify is something that I were already using on my Nexus, it's time to see if the configuration you suggested can at least improve my battery performances
Really thank you mate, I will try to look in it as soon as I can.
No problem. I've been meaning to document my configuration for a while! DS battery saver let's you set how often the phone is allowed to wake up and how long dor. It is fuzzy, as in, in practice the device wakes up for a few other things, but it does ensure you can still get timely updates.
I'll have a think what else I've done. Best thing for me is that I don't have to disable GPS or mess with Google play. Most people don't seem to realise they eare suffering the MRA bug and fail to understand that the app showing the issue isn't the actual app causing it. It is causing many people to uninstall things they don't need to.
I also have substratum installed and am using a dark theme applied only to apps, leaving core OS components unthemed (theming android system and the settings app would break the device so don't ha.) The dark theme also massively reduces drain from the OLED screen.

Thank you, now I got it! Tahnks for sharing your expierence and helping me understanding
Anyway, suffering this kind of bugs in 2017, when a lot of users have reported this and thanks to this Google could have sufficient information to analyse the issue, seems not acceptable... we are not talking about a little refresh bug or something like that but this could be the kind of bug that can make the user experience horrible for people.. just a little outburst.
Im facing this problem too after flashing oos 4.0.1, twrp 3.0.3-1, rooted.
I've tried to disable google app, permission to location is turn off for every app except maps, only using 1 google account. This is my cycle.

A lot of people after the Nougat update are facing battey drain issues like you.
If your drain, like most of them, is related to the Oxygen OS there are good news for you, because OnePlus on twitter was talking about a new release (4.0.2) to fix all this battery issues.
Did you experienced this drain also before updating to Oxygen 4.0.x?
In my case I think to not be as lucky because I am experiencing this also with Oxygen 3.5.3 that is based on Android Marshmellow.
Yesterday I got a conversation with the Google Italian support describing my problem and all the "Mobile radio active" bug information... they told me they started a further investigation on this matter in order to solve the issue. I really hope that this could be a good starting point in order to definely resolve this issue and give to the Mobile radio active bug the importance and the severity that it worth!
If your battery drain is caused by this mobile data bug, maybe you can take a look at this app "LeanDroid" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teqtic.leandata&hl=en
I have it on my S6 and my S7 because those 2 phones had terrible battery drain and this app seems to help out. You can limit certain services such as mobile data, bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi.
You still get background notifications and stuff, but it is in a "sleep mode" sort of state and helps preserve your battery.
When I get my OP3T I will write a tutorial about some great apps that can help preserve battery and even optimize the performance of your phone even more than it already is.
I hope this helps you out though. Good luck!
Leandroid looks like a replacement for DS battery saver. I'll give it a try and see which saves more. DS hasn't been updated for a while.
...Works with OOs 4.0.1. DS battery saver doesn't. Could be on to a winner here since that's the main reason I've not stuck with it.
That's awesome. Like I said, I haven't gotten my phone yet so haven't tested it on the OP3T, but if it works for you, I look forward to hearing your feedback about it.

I only used 3.5.4 for one day when i bought it. Then updated to 4.0.1, unlocking, root, and install all apps that i need.
Here is my cycle after i did :
1. Disable google app
2. Disable location permit for all apps except maps.
3. Using greenify to sleep background apps
Pretty impressive, but the google play service still draining more then android system.

I'm still investigating on my battery drain problem apparently related to Google Play services.
Summing, like stated some posts ago, all things for now are pointing to one, and not so positive, thing: Mobile radio active bug (here more details: https://code.google.com/p/android/is...tail?id=190396)
I've found that using the WiFi connection my drain problem is totally gone, more than this, I see that Google Play Services exchanged a lot of background data when I am using mobile data (2G/3G/4G) .
Due to this I tried, from the Google Play Services app settings, to active the "Limit app background data" option and with my pleasure I saw that this was fixing my drain problems also with mobile data!
"All fantastic!" I said.. not at all, doing this I saw that I lost push notifications while receiving messages on whatsapp, messenger, hangout and so on.. and unfortunately this is very inconvenient.

I will give it a try once I have rooted my OP3T.. It's very interesting the possibility to make exceptions based on the app and on its background services.

Very nice SOT time
Just a question.. what you mean at the point 1 with "Disable google app"?
Update, Leandroid is a great replacement for DS battery saver. I saw 8h SOT yesterday with it on MM. DS battery saver/leandroid are the key feature to working around the MRA bug. You do lose immediate notifications but you can specify how often to check, which is a nice enough workaround to make everything worth it.
No need to use Greenify on Nougat, in OOs 4, Greenify is part of the OS. But I still trust it more as it has proven itself over the years.
So yeah, leandroid plus Greenify plus Amplify plus FK kernel equals insane battery life.

Seems to be fixed with 4.02...

The version 4.0.2 should fix this battery drain issue if they are related to the Android OS system from the Nougat update.
By the way in the update changelog I did not found nothing related to the "battery drain fix", on the other hand happy to hear that the new version fixed your issue!
Lookin forward for you confirm.
Hey guys. Google brought me here. Apparently there isn't much on the subject.
I ran OOS 3.5.3 a few days ago (haven't tried 3.5.4 since I heard it had battery issues). I was suffering from high drainage from Google Play Services, Android System and Android OS. With the help of Greenify, Amplify and Power Nap I could get at least 5h of screen time. I got sick of the drain so I tried OOS 4.0.2, hoping it would fix things. Android System and Android OS drains are indeed fixed, but the mobile radio active is still present. I'm barely getting 4h of SoT, with the lack of Amplify and Power Nap, so I'll probably revert back to 3.5.3 soon, even though it had issues. Also getting disappearing notifications on 4.0.2. Custom ROMs are a no since I need the camera to be at its best. Should I just keep flashing stock ROMs hoping I get lucky and it gets fixed?
The mobile radio active bug is unlikely to get fixed. Try leandroid with 4.0.2 but for me, 3.5.4 with FK kernel, Amplify and Greenify work better for battery.

My money's on apps.
You can hv good battery if you turn 5g off, always use 4g only

Yea that's not a lot to be honest, what about thermals?
Signal strength?
What SOT are you actually getting?
Also are you rooted? Is so then why are you using vanced micro G? There's no need for it.
I've never used re-vanced, just vanced.. never heard of it

Thermals - I live in a cool place, and my phone thermals are quite normal all the time.
Signal Strength - I mostly use WiFi 5Ghz. I am a bit far from the router so like it's somewhat poor strength.
SOT (right now) - I charged my phone to 91% yesterday and right now I am at 54% after 2 and a half hour of screen time (for the first time)
Root (micro g)- Revanced is the same thing as vanced but it's like continuing the legacy of it as it no longer is supported. Actually, I might attach the github for it, if you're interested I will also attach a youtube video for your to follow and get the app. Micro g is used to actually set up my google account and connect it with youtube revanced. Other than that, it's useless for me. But here you go with all the files for it.
Revanced -->https://github.com/revanced
How to install and set up the whole app -->
Hope this helps

Vanced still very much works mate. You should only be using micro G if you're not rooted.
As for your WiFi if your router has 5Ghz then it almost certainly has 2.4 so split the channels instead of having the one smart one, just add 'Long range ' to the SSID of the 2.4 to differentiate between the two, your phone will use more power to grab the 5Ghz connection, same as it will if your mobile signal is weak... The battery impact can be significant.
Are you using QHD or FHD? I'm using FHD because there's literally no difference, it's a 6"screen not a TV, go for FHD mate..
Thanks for re-vanced but I have vanced working just fine, I just don't have automatic updates turned on, pointless as I choose what i want when I need it.

Well... Where to begin....
1. Apps,
Swift back up, you can back up / restore apps in their absolute current state, eg: your stuck in a game, click back up, try - fail, restore app, to again from before you failed, also useful if you wipe your phone, this can be cloud survived synced.
AdAway - true system wide ad blocking.
Root access to your phones files and folders.
Wifi kill - kick people off your WiFi your connected to, apps like this require root access, obviously for educational purposes
There's too many to mention but the sky is the limit here.
2. Magisk modules, unlimited Google photos back up, block apps from seeing your rooted so you can still use them (banks etc)
3. Customisation / mods, I've got a thread for moving your clock to the center instead of over on the left, looks a lot better tbh, there are other mods out there plus theming like substratum (haven't tested this too much but I've seen themes on other people's devices)
4. Custom ROMs, GSI's, custom ROMs aren't yet available but GSI's are, you'll lose some things like fingerprint but you can have pixel experience running on your 10 pro which is nice, there's about 10 GSI's you can install.
5. Knowledge, having a tweak is a great way to learn more about Android, it never ends, there's always something more you can do and make better, for me this is what Android is all about, by not rooting you're essentially using a closed source device, may as well get an iPhone.
Lastly, it's a OnePlus device and they really don't care if you unlock the bootloader or not, I've returned 2 devices in the past with unlocked bootloader's and they just don't care, so it's risk free.
This is a brief rundown of why I would root, bare in mind that this may not be around forever so get in there while you can.
Least that's my thoughts on it.

I'm in bed at the moment as it's 03:40 but will point you in the right direction.
My guide does contain everything you need to do to gain root access...
But before then you'd need to unlock your bootloader, there's a plethora of guides on how to do this in numerous threads in the 10 pro forum, have a look and familiarize yourself with the terminology.
You'll need:
1. Your phone charged to 50 or above to be safe
2. Original cable.
3. Windows 10 or above 10 preferred.
4. ADB/fastboot files with the USB driver (found in my guide)
5. But of patience and a willingness to pick up new knowledge.
All the tweaks and changes you can make is superb but getting to it and back although not difficult dictates that you do know certain things or are willing to pick them up.
Start by having a read and backing up your data, then go from there.
Bare in mind that unlocking the bootloader will erase the devices content.

You can get less than that, 0-1% overnight on older devices.. I've managed 1% before. ATM I get around 3-4% loss i think..will have to check...I'm on A17 though (android 12)
for my phone, i only got -4% for 8hrs sleep time, 100% before sleep, 96% left when i get up in the morning
I bought a Samsung S23+ a week ago. I'm really like it. It's a significant improvement over my old S10.
However, sometimes when I open an app, it immediately closes. It just goes away. No error message, it just disappears. However, tapping on it again brings it up. It isn't consistent which app suddenly closes; it just does. And sometimes it's a major feature of Android, such as Messages. A few times I've tapped on Messages, it starts to come up, then closes immediately. But why does it do that? Is there anything I can do to stop it?

I'm sorry, I don't follow you. What do you mean by "clean load" and what's a "SmartSwitch"? What I have done is tried to open an app, like Messages, to have the app initially open, but the immediately close. Not always and not the same app.
And how do I clear the system cache?

I think by "clean load" he means booting up the phone and not restoring any previous backup from google or from the samsung account. Smartswitch is a samsung app that allows you to copy the data from one phone to another. It tends to cause some issues, or carry on issues from the previous smartphones.
I recently traded my N20U for a S23 and used smart switch for i didn't have all my stuff backed up. the phone was overheating and the battery was draining hella fast. I did a clean load and everything is fine; except for this problem of apps closing all of the sudden. Clean loading didn't fixed it for me.
To clear the system cache you have to enter the recovery mode by shutting down your phone and pressing power + volume up until it boots and goes into the recovery mode. From there you can delete the cache. I will try it later and report back.
Today i have received the prompt for the february update, but i am still on january patch.

Telegram, GBwhatsapp and twitter are very frequent. Once and a while a random app crashes, but happens twice a day at most. IK GB is a modded app but it and none of the other apps displayed this behaviour on my previous phones.

Ditch them; no social media or sales apps should ever be installed. Multi vector security risks and resource hogs. If you must use them login through a secure browser like Brave only. They simply aren't worth all the trouble they will cause.
Instead of Telegram try the Samsung messaging app. The Samsung app runs well for me, no issues. Not the solution you probably wanted but time to take out the trash... it's stinking up the place.

While i do understand and agree on the resource and security aspect, and shoulda' coulda' woulda' stopped using them, as i have done in the past and still do to this day with some of them, for a few reasons i need to be using some socials nowadays, and have done so for a few years without much hassle until this phone came in. If i could have ditched them, I wouldn't have come to a forum to figure out a way to fix the issue.
But I'll check how functional the web version of some of my socials work on mobile, for it's been a while i haven't used them and they used to lack functions.

They tend to be a mess. They probably aren't up to date with the latest Android version or Samsung has some glitches with their new firmware. One reason I don't upgrade firmware or update apps is because the phone is running well. In your case perhaps it's going the be a game of upgrade/update roulette.
Is power management active? Any disabled apps or services? Setting changes to system apps? Is a firewall installed? In Accessibility are there any services installed for those apps? For Android 11 and higher there maybe more settings... Samsung's notorious for burying them.

Gave a shot at updating the firmware; it boosted the performance a little bit, the battery is lasting way longer and the apps are closing less.
I ran a bugreport of a full day of use through battery historian and i found something strange, all app crashes are attributed to com.google.android.providers.media.module (which a quick google told me it's the MediaProvider Module from AOSP). Is there something i can do about it?
idk about power management but i have adaptive battery on, and i put discord to sleep; disabled google, meets and chrome; no settings changed; no firewall installed; all accessivility settings are off and no apps are using those permissions. I ****ed around a lil bit and toggled some of the samsung stuff off, but there might still be something buried, yes.

Adaptive battery is global power management. To verify it's on: Developer options>standby apps, the app bucket states will be varied if it on ie active, frequently, rarely etc.
When off they will always show as active and you can not change the bucket state (it seems to take but after a refresh it hasn't).
This lame feature never worked and uses much more battery than if the the device is hand optimized. It can cause erratic behaviors.
If you deal with the power hog correctly the results are apparent within hours not days or weeks. Lol, Gookill tends to get more stupid over time, not smarter That said hand optimizing takes time but the results are much better and yield a substantial increase in SOT, standby time as well as a snappier, cooler running device.
Optimizing is somewhat trial and error at first and a bit tricky. It eventually becomes almost second nature. This N10+ was a stuttering hot running power hog before it was optimized, now it runs like a bat out of hell. Try temporarily disabling Google play Services and see what that does. Gmail, Playstore and Google backup Transport are dependencies, simply turn on if needed. Kill the notifications for too so it doesn't nag you constantly. See if that helps your issues.
Use Device Care>memory>optimize. Install SD Maid Pro to do more clean up, it's a very useful app. A logging firewall can be very useful for tracking down issues, lets you see what's being busy in the background using data and resources.
com.google.android.providers.media.module, interesting. Apparently it's caused trouble going back to 2011 from time to time. It's a needed service. Go through all the Google account settings. It's good to explore all setting options anyway. Maybe try clearing the Media Storage app cache and check the settings.
I'm more clueless than you why this happening.
Maybe someone here knows why it's puking on you. Otherwise play with it, eventually you'll track the cause down but it may take a while.
If you're in the US you could go to a Samsung Experience center at best buy; they allegedly can run advanced diagnostic tests on it.

All my apps are active and i cannot flick the switch so i guess it's off. i turned adaptive battery off on battery and device care > battery > more battery settings.

While i'm aware of some optimization techniques, it's been so long since I actually felt the need to tweak something it's actually surreal. My two previous phones were a Mi A2 and a N20U (for almost three years), and I didn't mess around for basically nothing. they ran absolutely fine, I thought my XDA days were gone
But anyways, I did the following: After updating the firmware, I disabled and cleaned the media provider app cache and cleaned the system cache. The phone got immediately snappier, but some of the crashes were still happening. I ruled the Whatsapp crashes to a faulty backup, since I noticed it happened when I open certain chats. idk how to fix this so I just deleted the chat; the com.google.android.providers.media.module crash count went down from 10 to 4 on my two last battery cycles. Something is still crashing, but possibly in the background. I'll keep monitoring it.
Is there any other thread that shows the ropes of optimizing samsung devices aside from this one?

WhatsApp... ditch the trashware. An unstable OS can end up turning into a boot loop very quickly.
Any app that's misbehaving and can't be sorted out gets uninstalled or package disabled.
Find and correct the root cause(s).
All I ever played with are Samsung's and all needed to be optimized. There are numerous posts I've made of it but you see my post count; even I be hard pressed to ferret them all out.
I've thought about starting a thread but I run 9 and 10, plus I have mine configured to my device and needs. So what works well for me may be useless to others. It's a steep learning curve that works best if you learn the what's and why's rather than blindly implementing someone else's list. Eventually you get a feel for it by playing with it. That comes in handy when
Other than Package Disabler I deal with everything through the UI settings, and with 3rd party add ons; no adb edits. The result is a very stable stock Samsung that runs well and a very long lived load. I block upgrades and updates; these can and do break Samsung's so I have learned and waste my time trying to fix the mess they make.

Jesus, do you have any apps on your phone? Shouldn't you just get a nokia 3310 at this point?
You bash every feature of a smartphone that makes it smart.
No apps, no software update, no features, no fun. Try living in the woods completely off the grid. Seems more up your alley.

If you pay more attention, this statement will read as follows:
"You bash every 'feature' of a smartphone that makes it a better spyware."
@Rod F
OneUI has a bug. I used to see app crashing pop-ups quite frequently during the initial period on my S22U. The same build and version of apps ran absolutely fine on my other devices, which too were running on the same Android version as my S22U.
Over time, due to optimisations and updates from Samsung, the number of such pop-ups have reduced to almost none now.

GDPR happened because someone raised the issue and created awareness. Although it is only a first step, but that too wouldn't have happened if he had just decided to get the Nokia 3310.
