root/install custom rom without PC/Odin.

For those who do not have access to a computer I achieved root on Kit Kat without a PC by following these steps :
All needed items will be linked below.
Root device using kingroot (will not trip Knox) if you are only wanting root for basic root apps (greenify etc.) then this is all you need to do. Have fun! (Just remember anything that changes the /system partition significantly such as xposed will trip Knox.)
To install superSU instead of kingroot/kinguser (will trip Knox)
Install flashify from the play store
Use flashify to install twrp (this step trips Knox)
Download SuperSU zip
Remove kingroot and the included kinguser app (follow instructions from kingroot thread)
Reboot into recovery and install SuperSU zip
OR :
After installing twrp just download a ROM (and if needed gapps) of your choice and flash.

You've just negated the whole point of using kingroot, not tripping Knox.
You could have simply rooted using twrp or cfauto root without kingroot at all. I know it saves connecting to a PC, but that is trivial.
Kinguser supersu app is fully English and has no problems as a supersu replacement. I used it for months.

Some people don't have a PC - this method would let them install custom roms or install xposed without needing a PC.

I agree but then you stated about flashing supersu and twrp which would trip Knox and sort of made the first part of your informative post pointless, that's all.
Also flashing roms will also trip Knox, so again negates the point of rooting with kingroot.

I see your point - will modify the op to reflect different goals of rooting - my use of kingroot was to obtain root knowing I was going to trip Knox to install a custom rom as I do not have a PC to run Odin.

Kingroot does not work on lollipop. Don't want to trip Knox. Is there any other way to root? Not flashing any rom BTW.

If you have a computer and can downgrade to 4.4 kingroot should work then

I had never heard of that tool. Did it work well on KK ? Looks like there are newer versions that could work with Lollipop. My only concern is that it is all in Chinese and I don't know how reliable it is

I saw in another thread that someone had success using KIng Root on the AT&T variant. I have tried several times and on several different days, but as of yet King Root will not work for me on the SM-T807V. This is the Verizon variant. Some folks have speculated that King Root might work on Lollipop if you have the Exynos chip and not the Snapdragon. Unfortunately, or fortunately, for me, I have the Verizon with the different chip. I believe I also read that Sprint variants also have Snapdragons.

Sprint does have snapdragon, but their bootloaders are unlocked in which they can flash anything they want. Sucks that kingroot doesn't work onm Verizon

I'm not sure whether the failure for it to work is the exploit itself or user error.
It has worked both on my exynos tab s t805 and my snapdragon m8.
Both running kitkat.
Earlier versions have worked on other devices I own.
I can't see what would be different exploit wise with the Verizon device.
It took me a few goes for the exploit to work and most importantly the device will reboot at least once and then continue the exploit, so must not be touched after the reboot.
My advice here is to set the screen timeout to at least 10 mins, so it can be monitored after it reboots.
Also it needs to be kingroot v4. Another point is that if the app root fails then it's worth trying the desktop version as, from past experience, this has worked when the app hasn't.

Yes but in my opinion the app is interesting because it makes it possible to keep the Knox counter at 0×0. Using the desktop version installs another recovery and triggers Knox. But it looks like the team is working hard to make it functional for devices on lollipop. I hope we will see progress for the tab s

The bootloader is irrelevant as the exploit doesn't involve the bootloader. Not only that it works on the bootloader locked att model.

Keep root after update ??
hello just wondering if after king root gains root would I be able to update from Samsung update in settings ? And if It does let us update from setting will it remove or patch over the root exploit..! Thanks...

As far as Knox is not tripped, I believe you should but you will lose root in the process.

Downgrade to kitkat, root with king root then flash lollipop stock official fw with flashfire, with injects supersu option

I have not read any posts from anyone that has been able to root a VERIZON (caps used for emphasis ) Tab S (SM-T807V) with King Root or Kingo.

Op updated with more info regarding different steps if you just want root or want to go further and install xposed or custom Roms.
Sorry for taking so long to update - real life got in the way.

Has anyone found a method to replace kingroot with supersu without tripping Knox? I have tried the same steps that worked on my s6 on here and that didn't work. Worked only right after completing the process but when I reboot I lost root.

Sorry this is absolutely the case, what firestorm942 didn't explicitly mention is that in order to be rooted at all on lollipop, you have to start from rooted KitKat. To see the full process see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63639949&postcount=2
Yes the process wipes your phone at one point and yes this the only way to be rooted on lollipop

The problem is kingroot copies all your personal data (including your IMEI) and sends it to a server in China. I recommend against it since I don't trust that for a second. Supersu is known to be safe, stable, and effective

You can accomplish it even if you've already updated to lollipop
Sometimes the correct way of doing things takes a little more effort than the easy way out, but why do something if you don't want to do it right?

Thank you bro i updated to Lollipop and Keep root but now i have another problem with the Mobile Data I can't create the APN to use mobile data when i don't have wifi i didn't got this problem when I on KitKat 4.4.2 but when i upgraded to 5.0.1 Lollipop it say ( ( Unable to view access point settings, Assess is restricted for the current user profile. )!?

If you're on KitKat, root with towelroot. If you're on lollipop use Odin to go back to KitKat then root with towel root, and then you can use the keep root method to update to rooted lollipop

Temporary root to debloat? possible to unroot

I want to be as close to stock as possible. Is it possible to flash (with ODIN) 100% stock rom then root with unikernel and remove all the t-mobile apps and knox etc..then go back to stock kernel and unroot? how would I unroot?

I want to unroot because the phone is for my gf who knows nothing about technology, I don't want her to accidentally do anything to the phone if it's rooted lol. Does CF auto root work 100% for th S6 now? I always used unified kernel.

my wife's phone is rooted and she wouldn't even know it if she seen it.
Women who don't know about root which is most in that casee could care less . As long as theyre facebook and cam works...lol .The only time they could do harm is Going to the extent of booting into twrp in which they would not even know the first thing about flashing a zip .
Root her phone debloat it and it's done.

5.0.2 was good for cf auto
Since 5.1.1 you cant downgrade and requires a rootable kernel and most people do it this way .
Just flash uni kernel v8 tar in Odin and reboot or flash twrp with Odin and then flash the unikenrel v8 zip before you reboot

Don't do it, she'll hate you because stuff isn't going to work for her.
Just disable apps she doesn't want and leave stock with everything working.

I'd be interested in this because I need to use an app for my work that checks for root and xposed framework. But I'd still like to use a ROM with enhancements like low battery camera etc and without all the useless apps.

There are root cloaking apps which are meant to hide that you have root access. I cannot speak as to their effectiveness but they are out there.
I told my employer that I wasn't unrooting my phone and that if somebody needed something so urgently as to pull me away from my personal time when I work 9-5:30 m-f that I didn't rhink it too much to ask that said individual(s) contact me personally. They actually came to agree with me.

These don't work for the app I'm using, I looked into it. I have no use for root other than debloating the phone, and the built in features of custom roms (which I believe don't require root access).

If you use systemless root, delete /su/xbin_bind and then follow this thread's instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/passing-safetynet-root-t3307659 nothing will be able to detect root without requesting it [which you can deny] and you're golden.

I have a samsung G900AUCU3BOC4 5.0, can it be rooted? And how?
Also, if it can't be rooted, is it possible to change my firmware to tmobile? I changed my carrier to tmobile a while back, but my firmware is at&t.

You've been going around the att forums saying it's possible to root starting from 5.0, it isn't, unless you have solid proof it is stop misleading people.

I'm not talking about the app. I was talking about the root binary. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/aquos-crystal/general/temp-root-306sh-t3129456. Just use the root file. You can also use King root because it uses the same exploit.

So that will work? Also, kingo root gives me an error saying root unsuccessful after it reboots my phone and vibrates 3 times.

That is still not going to work on "THIS" phone with "THIS" lollipop bootloader.
I think you are mixing what worked on other phones (maybe s5) with this particular s5. I'm pretty sure a dev has already thought of and tried that, and if it really worked, you would have been heard about it.

Correct I have the att variant of s5 with 5.1.1 and sadly no root on it as of yet, I can say that kingroot team is researching it as it is close to the top of list for people requesting research, hopefully they will figure it out soon if you happen to have the att variant of s5 and have not gone up to 5.0+ yet then i suggest that you do not do so otherwise your going to have no root and no way to get it yet.

My phone is -
SM-G900A AT&T
Lollipop 5.0 G900AUCU3BOC4
I just used KINGROOT king481.apk
It did take a while and at the ATT splash screen it stop for a few minutes.
Next it rebooted three times........ Root Checker now says it is Rooted.
I have rebooted and turned the phone off 5 times without issue.
Also Titanium Backup Pro installed detecting that the phone was now rooted.

Is rooting with Magisk possible?

Hey im new to Samsung phones and got an S10+ preordered. Will I be able to flash TWRP and Magisk the day I get it or will it take some time? Also is there anything special about rooting Samsung phones?

I would not expect for immediately. Devs need to reverse engineer/hack their way around the firmware locks to attain root and keep the device bootable. Once they do that, the devices are ours. though I cannot imagine it would be too different from the 9 series with flash counters and such not.

If it's the US snapdragon I highly doubt it but with exynos most likely and it will trip knox just like the Note 9.

You will loose Samsung Pay, secure folders and banking apps probably won't work. There is more but that's all that comes to mind right now. Uninstalling root and flashing everything to stock won't fix the lost apps either, it's permanent. I think it will reset your phone too.

Banking apps will work once able to flash Magisk, simply using a system-less root method will allow for work arounds such as Magisk hide etc. which will definitely allow for such apps to work. Exactly as has been seen for the past few generations of devices using Magisk! Anyway... on another note, yes bootloader will very likely be unlockable on Exynos variants allowing for TWRP and custom rom installation but highly unlikely on Snapdragon variants.

Yes because the past root methods trip knox and blow a efuse witch is not reversible. Unless a different root method is discovered this phone will be no different. As the post says above there are some workarounds but that is not a guarantee. Some apps can not be fooled.

i have read about some way to root without trip kNox but you have to dont use magisk or xposed just you got an access to system files.

Wish SuperUser root XDA god 'Chainfire' hadn't retired!

I'm waiting for anyone who has enough guts to try, all I really want is v4a.
This is the last galaxy I buy I think, prolly go one plus next time. But yea this is a waiting game. I'm waiting for someone to bribe the dev's to prenstall v4a for us in an ota update. Hey be a great April fools joke ....heh
