Camera Issue on Android 7.0 Nougat - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
As the title of this thread implies, I have been having problems with my camera on the latest Nougat firmware. One major problem I faced is the inability for the camera to focus (tap to focus). I've played with a lot of settings both on Superior Auto and Manual but the problem doesn't seem to go away. The photos I took are so bad and out of focus I feel like it's completely broken. I didn't notice it being this bad the first time I installed Nougat. Planning to do factory reset soon.
Does anyone face the same issue?

I have same problem.

Wait for it to be released.

I had the same problem on .372 firmware, but on .376 seems ok

Disable object tracking and you ll can tap to focus.

Can you say object tracking is good or bad? What doest it do? In my camera it is enabled, should I turn it off? I don't use touch to focus or touch to shoot. I use normal shoot button( I am a normal photo taker).

Does the lens in our camera capable of object tracking ? I thought only Z5 series and later support object tracking.

Yes, z3+ is capable of objekt tracking.

Can ajy of you shoot good macro shots?? My Z3+ just wont focus close up subjects no matter what I do,but if the subject is further away it does focus.Ive experimented with the settings but it is the same. And yes ive cleaned the lens and tried with the hardware button too.I also downgraded to 6.0.1 but the issue persists.Any fix?

when you use macro settings, and have blur picture of close objects , it's because of the focal length of the lens.

[Q] Camera Problem

Recently i purchased Galaxy Note & i really love it but i dont like its camera.
When i open my camera app picture look beautiful & very clear but when i shot the picture it becomes dull. I tried several other camera apps also same result.
I think its because of HD display picture looks beautiful before capturing it. After capture the picture it becomes dull. I am confused why so? its because of HD display or software problem or hardware problem??
Anyone facing this problem or am i alone??
Cam FW Version: OOEI08
Phone FW Version: OOEI08
Please reply me friends. if its hardware fault then i have to return it
i have problems in zooming...autofocus works very bad..
Without zooming i have good pics, expecially macro
Cam FW Version: OOEI08
I think in software problems, not hardware
Waiting for next Firm upgrade...and android 4...
You are not alone. I was about to post a thread with the exact same problem. I'm really disappointed at the moment as I'm uncovering more and more problems with the phone each day.
Software issue
I was having the same problem, go to settings, ISO, remove from auto to 800, the pics wouldn't become dull anymore... i hope...

All cameras with digital zoom will look very bad if zoomed in. It is because the image is enlarged using its pixels rather than the lens....so as you zoom in the pixels just get bigger. I t's just like when zooming in on a photo using pinch to zoom.. ..if you zoom right in you can see individual pixels and the image will look blurred.
This is not a fault, just one of the downsides of using digital zoom.

It's not digital zoom, it's definitely the auto focus.
I have a batch of good pics from when I first started using the Note, so makes me believe the latest firmware update messed things up, especially since macro pics look fantastic.

Forgot to mention, I am experiencing the same problem as the original post. The pictures look perfect in the frame a micro-second before capturing, then the actual image turns out a bit fuzzy.

I had the same problem, but I think I have solved the problem now. When I took picture, it turned out to be very dull. I was playing around with my case today and all of a sudden, I found a clear film attached to the lens. After removed, the new picture taken became well again. You may want to see if you also has the film on the lens not removed.
I wish it was that simple.
Something in the image processing is softening the image before it's saved to the phone. If anyone has any suggestions please reply (though I've pretty much used up all the combinations).
Note, (ha!) the front facing camera takes nice crisp images, what I would also expect from the main camera.
Yes im facing same problem! I see a nice preview and when i take a pic it looks really bad ! It is disappointing really...It was not like that on the Galaxy SII.
A few things to try.Enable the anti shake function and try to keep the phone still when taking pictures. No phones take good pictures in low light situations,so when abundant light is not available switch to night mode. This will brighten the picture considerably.
Also I find the auto ISO tends towards the low setting even when light is poor so adjust the ISO manually. This might explain why some people find pictures a bit dark.
The image for me after taking an image is very dull. Like the recorded colours are reduced from what you see on the screen before capture. This is also true for video recording. I have attached a photo compairing the images of captured vs shown on the screen before capture. Hopefully someone can fix this. It must be a software issue because the hardward already shows great images before capture.

Which firmware version are you running?
hi. actually i got this problem on first time. i got this problem fix after i reset camera setting. try it yourself
I suggest you turn off the auto brightness and set the display brightness to Max and turm auto adjust screen power then try again.
I think you think the pictures are dull after they were taken because of the screen auto brightness .
I figure the camera app will increase your screen brightness for whatever brightness setting you are on and the gallery app. Wouldn't.
So you will see a duller image in gallery preview versus the camera app viewfinder , hence lead you a misconception of the picture look dull compare to the camera viewfinder.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
It actually has nothing to do with the screen, rather it's how the image is captured. The software is softening the image, so even downloaded images appear dull.
And it's only the rear camera. My front camera images are crisp both on the Note's screen and when uploaded elsewhere.

Your right, brightness was set at 0% but camera app always goes to full.
Silly me!
However, the problem is still there but not so obvious as in the images I posted. The colour is undersaturated compaired to viewfinder and its also blurred/ not as sharp. That is also when taking a photo using a perfectly still stand.
I'm noticing the same thing. The pictures are dull and not as sharp as what I see on the screen. this is a huge disappointment that I hope Samsung will fix soon.
i would like to know some fix about this too... hopefully there is a nice reasoning to image becoming dull...
faced kinda a similar prob on my HTC desire hd wherein the pics became yellow however changing the AUTO WHITE balance helped me.... However on my note it doesnt.

Camera Focus Problem?

My phone is focusing but shows green even when it doesn't reach real focus, i don't know if it's my phone fault or for all, but my Galaxy SIII when i don't reach focus it shows a RED sight with 3 bips, and when right focus it shows Green sight with 2 fast bips.

Its auto focussing . When you move your camera around and then hold it still , it again auto focuses on its own.

Yes but even using other cameras like Camera360 ultimate, when i touch to focus and the camera doesn't reached focus, on Moto X it shows green and on Galaxy SIII red(Because when out of focus it shows to user like a DSLR or other cameras). It's only mine? Or Moto X don't have this focus detection built'in? I used all cameras available on market, galaxy SIII detects when not in focus and Moto X not, shows always green after focus or not focus, to have a good focus i need to see if it is or not in real focus.

Yes, i agreed to you in your context, but i'm trying to say that i want to know if my camera has a problem or not, because it's new, all camera phones are supposed to have a focus system, if not work, it's a factory problem.

As far as I know, The STOCK CAM APK OF ANOTHER HIGH QUALITY CAMERA DEVICES MAY improve the quality but it never change the megapixel (hardware tweaks) but it gives a best outcome of your device's camera (8mb or 13mb) whatever it is!
Ex: 13mb cam apk ported to 8mb caMera device gives best resolution of pic with high definition Ultra ZOOM compared with stock camera app

Google Camera v8.3b Mod with HDR+ (recommended settings)[Exynos]

I found the settings of google camera that give the best HDR+, portraits on Nougat/Oreo Exynos devices. Compared to stock camera, GCam gives better saturation levels and detailed images. HDR+ parameters don’t hugely matter what you choose, and is all personal preference. A higher amount (very high in my case) will take a longer time to process.
New settings attached below. Clean Install is always recommended.
Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exynos.apk
3.2.9 Features
-Fixed black level back camera for Samsung Galaxy A8/A8+
-Attempt to fix OIS
3.2.7 Features
- Fixed black level front
- Enabled OIS by default
- Added saturation options in Advanced HDR+ settings
3.2 Features
- Dark Theme for settings.
- Now you can select the path where to save the photos (doesn't work on sd card but probably can work with some xposed mod).
- Removed all the snapdragon toggles. The app will know when apply that settings.
- Removed custom denoise param and other settings
- Now the app will restart every time you go back from settings to the viewfinder. This means that you don't need anymore to restart the app to apply settings
- Now there are three gestures in the viewfinder:
1. double tap on the black area it will pop the exposure menu directly
2. long-press on gallery and it will open samsung gallery instead of google photos
3. long press on the switch camera and after the restart the viewfinder brightness will be set to maximum
- some minor changes
Gcam Tool v2..32
-Prevent flipping of front camera photos
-Choose which photos you want to move
-Select custom source and destination folders
-Batch move multiple files
-Option to delete the sub folder created by Google Camera
Download

Nice.. I couldn't get that movement correctly to slide it to get lens blur
But it seems to be a old version without the original portrait-mode. They are working on it and posted versions that are working for snapdragon but not for the exynos right now.

Not at all, Live Focus is infinitely better than lens blur. Lens Blur can't detect edges for ****. The problem with Live Focus is it requires adequate lighting for good processing. Lower light tends to do about as well as lens blur, for me at least.
Also Live Focus is fantastic as generating a gradual bokeh across the ground or a wall, it's way more natural. Lens Blur can't do anything like that.

I agree that but lens blur and live focus are totally different in work. Lens blur is a good replacement for devices like S8, S7 etc.
There's a new version that supports Portrait mode, and is working on Snapdragon variants... I've tried, but can't find any setting to work.

For me, the Google app is more natural than Samsung. The Samsung looks more artificial. Check by yourself. I installed the app as in OP. No problems at all.

Camera: How to focus?

A common method of manually changing the point of focus is to tap the screen in the area in which focus is desired. How can I somebody a focus point in the default camera app?
I cannot find an option to enable this function, and by default, tapping the screen takes a picture. As one cannot be expected to use manual mode to focus every picture, there must be a setting or ability I am overlooking.
Thanks for any help provided!

Have you tried the press and hold the screen? I think it locks the auto focus on the feature in the scene.
Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
Hmm, that does lock the focus on an area, but my issue is that the image--or the desired portion of an iimage-- does not properly come into focus to begin with. On previous phones, I've been able to tap an area of the screen in order to make the phone focus on that particular area.
The issue with images not coming into focus correctly especially effects the zoom camera. When using manual focus, I have no problem focusing images properly. It is quite frustrating to have to manually focus every photo I take with that lens.
Any other ideas? Have you experienced the focus issue I'm describing?
Edit: I've noticed that tap-to-focus does work as expected in video mode, but in photo mode, of course, it activates the shutter. Hopefully a future update will add a setting to disable this functionality. Until then, I may just have to rely on the--somewhat cumbersome--manual focus.
Actually, scratch that. I think the focus lock actually accomplishes what I'm looking for! I've noticed that in a addition to locking the focus on an area, if the area isn't currently focused, it will actually bring it into focus as well.
Thank you very much for the help!

No prob glad you figured it out.

Front camera, group photo, out of focus issue.

Hey everyone!
So for the longest of time, I already have this problem when I am using the front camera to take a group photo, and the camera always focus on the person closest (holding) the camera. Even with the face detection option ON, it won't capture the rest of my friends. Even if I manually tap on the center of the screen (to focus behind).
Do you guys face this issue too?
Any solutions?
I tried Open Camera app but it doesn't have the wide angle feature (like the default S10 camera) have for front camera. (Unless I am not seeing the option).
Thanks!
Bump Hoping for reply still.
