Can you install this xap "Talking Santa" ? - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Link for Talking Santa: cdn.marketplacecontent.windowsphone.com/public/ca985855-b506-428a-bfd8-79d07ea6a8c3
I have the Nokia 630 and I get the error in Windows Phone Application Deployment (8.1):
"Error - The package does not contain the expected manifest file."
This game isn't in store anymore. I had it installed but did hard reset and lost it, before that I made a copy of the system folder:
D:\WPSystem\apps\WindowsApps\OutFit7Limited.TalkingSanta_2.4.0.0_arm__rmf98d2bjqpyp
Is there a way for me to just copy this copy and make the phone recognize the installation?
Please if you can install this in your Lumia, please tell me how. Maybe adjusting some file, maybe it's easy for anyone who knows. Thanks.

I renamed to appx but I still have the same error. Can you install this game without problems? If yes, please tell me what tools you are using. Thank you again.

to download file with name, add to link: ?downloadname=Talking Santa.appx
here is
http://cdn.marketplacecontent.windo...-79d07ea6a8c3?downloadname=Talking Santa.appx
and most important: did you developer unlock phone?
or put file on phone or SD card, open Store, tap three dots and select Install Local Apps

Thank you for your attention. My Nokia 630 is enable live interop / capability unlock and live full fs access, using vcREG v1.3, I can deploy xap, appx, etc, but in this specific case this appx talking Santa no deploy because occurs a error in Windows Phone Application Deployment 8.1 when I click to deploy: "Error - the package does not contain the expects manifest file" and if I copy the appx talking Santa to SD card and go to install local Apps, the "Talking Santa" don't disponible in store, it's appear in the list grayed impossible to select for install! I have tried in region United States, Spain, Brazil, etc...
My great question is, can you install this appx talking Santa in your mobile, this impossible for me. If you can install please confirm to me and how make the process of success installation. Thank you.

I not use 8.1 because use W10M. Install appx is much easier, just run on phone or deploy with browser or install with interop tools. Why not upgrade? I upgraded 920, 925, 530 to official W10M AU and all working great plus enabled largest paging file for virtual memory and phone "flying"

For me, cant install 'Talking Santa' in appx format purpose if i tranform it to appxbundle i can deploy it.

Good! But how can I transform appx to appxbundle? I just tried to rename but I still have the same error. Can you teach us how this method of transformation is or post the corrected appxbundle to download? Thank you in advance.

with increased virtual memory (paged file) in registry editor, works much better...
also W10M is much optimized with every update than before, some apps still works slow but system works fine.

Interesting. But now I have installed Windows Insider and enabled fast insider, but updates to w10m no more appears in my settings> update of Mobile. When I first made it, I enabled Windows insider after rebooting the phone already appeared the update to w10m, but now it does not work, just shows that the phone is up to date. By the way, you were able to install this appx in w10m? Thanks.

update is possible if you change registry to identify device as supported for W10M update, for example Lumia 535, 640, 730/735, 830... after that install Upgrade Advisor from store and check for update with this app
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SYSTEM - Platform - DeviceTargetingInfo
here few devices, select which most similar to your device, and id device DualSim, use DS device info...

Thank you very much for your explanations. Regarding the DualSim, the Nokia 630 is DualSim, I did not understand the part of the "DS device info". I will try later, although I am discouraged by the negative points I had while I tested earlier, the battery drains quickly and the system closes windows suddenly. Do you know what the user "titi66200" talked about transform appx into appxbundle? I wish I could install this game on my WP8.1, as I had it installed before hard reset. :crying:

in registry you change for DS lumia,
Lumia 640 Dual SIM
PhoneManufacturer = NOKIA
PhoneManufacturerModelName = RM-1077_1018
PhoneModelName = Lumia 640 DS
PhoneHardwareVariant. = RM-1077
few advice: insider not needed for upgrade, just use Upgrade Advisor app. after upgrade to 10586, upgrade again to 14393.953.
make hard reset when you done.
enable developer and portal device in phone settings - update and security
install Interop Tools ARM version https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71000190&postcount=607 and make interop Unlock (in case not work, first enable Restore NDTKSvc, wait 30 sec, restart phone and now must work)
for change virtual memory
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\
Value Name: PagingFiles
u:\pagefile.sys 256 256
change only 256 256 to value you want (first number is minimal, second is maximum virtual memory), for example:
u:\pagefile.sys 256 512
u:\pagefile.sys 512 512
u:\pagefile.sys 1024 1024
you can enter any value but watch how many memory phone have free. also dont change "u:\pagefile.sys" or add more than one row... restart phone when you done

PS: In case of emergency, is there still the possibility to go back to wp8.1?

look, for appx, just download appx file from store, is easier and you have install file... you can search to download appx files here https://www.appx4fun.com/ or try download with this web page http://winphonehub-apps.appspot.com/
for XAP files is different because XAP files on store is encrypted, you must extract all files from Install folder on phone (\WP System\Apps\) and patch this file if you want install it...

Drive is zipped due to xap size attachement limits. Just unzip it, xap inside.
I can get Nokia drive to work but the others are labelled here as xap files on forum but are zips when downloaded?

Dear jpneves1978,
an xap file is an xap file before and after download. If you do not have any spec program assosiated to xap file type like "Tom XAP Installer" than Windows by default will recognise it as some kind of compressed file pack, what it realy is.
If you have winzip or some other zip program installed it might assosiate the program's icon and link it to every kind of compressed file pack.
My suggesstin for you to try download and install the programs directly onto your phone, if you are usiong a kind of ROM what has xap install feature in IE9.

i had the same problem even though i have xap installer on my PC etc...
When you download the above files they are saved as zip and not xap.
What i did is upload them onto an ftp server and from their changed the file extension from zip to xap then downloaded them onto my computer.
quite a pain but that worked for me.

it is very easy, just install xap attached to thread, restart and after, you see 'nokia collection' or 'Samsung Zone' etc.. in your Marketplace

Thanks A Lot Dude For Bringing All Together.
It really is scary when I read posts on topics as basic as file types and file type association and what to do with xap files or zipped files and messing around with tweaking phones.
If XAP's are not associated with an installer like Tom's XAP Installer then right click the xap file, select Open With..., go to Choose Default Program, select Tom's XAP installer or whichever installer you use, and confirm the Always Use box is checked...click OK.
Thanks for the XAP post magdan83!

Is there a way to use Nokia Navigation without internet connection?
SOLVED:
Looks like since the latest update to v2.0 you can use it fully offline.
That's correct Rosetti but you may need to go online to search a destination and can then navigate offline. Better than HTC Locations isn't it? And FREE!

install direct new version from Store (dont use old XAP files)... just change store to Nokia and install Nokia apps... if app close during start, change phone name from HTC to Nokia Lumia in registry. dont forget uninstall old version first from phone
- go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ Platform \ DeviceTargetingInfo
MODeviceName: HTC Surround change to Lumia 800
- OemName: HTC change to NOKIA
latest version:

unfortunately Creative Studio in Store now is only for WP8

VEVO xap for sideloading?

Does anyone have the vevo xap for sideloading? I don't want to lose the app when I change phones or do a factory reset :'(
sent from my denim licious orange nokia 930
Does it even still work? Sounded like they were dropping support for it, not merely de-listing the app.
Not that it would surprise me if it does; I never installed it in the first place so I can't check.
It still works
Everyone advises to just not uninstall it from your phone but what happens if I need to do a hard reset or when I buy my next device?Someone has to have an unsigned xap. I asked Rafael on twitter but because its such public forum he didn't respond but he sometimes drops xaps that are able to side load kong after they're gone
So does anyone have the vevo xap?
i have the xap
@GoodDayToDie if I email it to you can you crack it?
If it's pulled right off the phone, sure; that's a really simple change.
If it's pulled off the store (DRM encrypted) then no, that's an excruciatingly complex wall of nonsense.

@ceesheim @GoodDayToDie @thals1992
ok I have the app on 2 of my phones an HTC 8X and a nokia 930, I read a tutorial to patch an xap but you need a phone with an sd card, is that the way to get the app off my phone, but neither have sd card slots, with that being said is there still a way to patch the app that's on these phones? I am also uploading an old wp7 version of the vevo app that I downloaded off of winphonhub, its patched and works fairly well with occasional error message, can this patched xap help you patch a more current one?
also id like to add I have 2 windows phones 635 and 830 with sd card slots, this may sound like a silly question, can I put the current marketplace xap onto the sd card and patch it from within the phone? or does it need to be installed on the phone too as well? (which unfortunately they are not installed on my sd card slot phones)

it MUST be installed on a phone with an sd card so that you can move the app to the sd card, then you can get the app of the phone and patch it.
if it isn't installed on your 830 then the xap only will not help you because the market place checks if the app is there , if it isn't then it will not let you install the the app
there are some hardcore ways to get the app of your x8 but that is only for real advanced users like @compu829 , because you need to actually brick your phone to enable mass storage mode . there are some threads about that.
@noelito if you upgrade your L930 to Windows Phone 10, there is a simple way for you to get the xap off of the device for backup!
i can definitely upgrade the L930 to w10 tp
@compu829 ok how to back up the xap? where is the tutorial? I am looking for the way to upgrade non supported devcies to windows 10 phones, I should be good to go because I have noupgrade the windows insider app
is this the link? and when do i do the back up / extract?
ok I found this thread @compu829
http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-10/general/howto-install-windows-10-phones-t3030105
do I follow the instructions on this thread to install windows 10 on my 930?
however at what point am I able to extract the vevo app and patch, when do I do that?
I was thinking about having you update your phone and then using the following trick to access c:\ on the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/win...ranted-c-access-windows-10-technical-t3032766 I know that your model is supported in the next version of the preview when it is released.
@compu829 yes I read the Lumia icon will be supported for windows 10 tp but they didn't mention 930 could have been inadvertently left out, I think I have done this before, if you are able to give step by step instructions im even open to doing a remote access to my PC if you wanted to do it for me or guide me as I go a long doing it

[WP10] Possibility of installing .xap files / unsupported apps on Huawei W1 [solved]

So i upgraded my Huawei W1 to WP10 TP. Unfortunately I'm facing several problems:
1) I can't deploy .xap files anymore (I guess the backward compatibility ended with WP10)
2) The store won't let me download Here Drive (the device doesn't meet the requirements)
3) Being a smart cookie I tried downloading Here Drive from the store manually but I only get an .xap file which due to 1) I can't deploy to my device
So my questions are:
1) Is there a way how I still can deploy a .xap file to a WP10 phone?
2) Does the store use the registry to determine if a phone is capable of running an app? If so: If I edit the registry to fake a capable device, will I be able to install from store and run the app?
3) Can I force the store to provide the app in .appx rather than .xap file format? General procedure for manual downloading mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/apps-games/apps-marketplace-t3171675
1) Have you tried openning developer mode?
2) Yes
3) What will it do if the app is an appx rather than xap?
@tolipwen
3) No appx is appx and xap is xap

3) What will it do if the app is an appx rather than xap?

My phone is in developer mode and I'm using (well trying to) WinAppDeployCmd. Unfortunately this will only accept .appx or .appxbundle. So the tool will just refuse sending an .xap to my phone running WP10.
On WP8.1 I used WPV XAP Deployer 2.0 for deploying my apps but it won't recognize my wp10 phone anymore. Is there an alternative that I'm missing?

Yes those are two different definitions. What puzzled me was that the store only offered me xap files for download and I tried like 50 apps. I thought most of them would be in the current .appx format.
EDIT: Solved. For some reason my phone gets recognized by the XAP deployer 2.0 now.

You're not supposed to factory reset your phone. In the post I quoted is a step-by-step guide in english. The russian videos are just to clear things up. Please reply in the quoted thread and state at which point you run into troubles.

General procedure for manual downloading mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/apps-games/apps-marketplace-t3171675

you can easy upgrade lumia 720 to WM10
first stop build from Windows Insider Programm
some, registry changes are needed , if you install CustomPFD...then change this registry and restart your phone and check for update
Then deploy customPFD and move it to HKLM–>SYTEM–>Platform–>DeviceTargetingInfo then change
a) PhoneManufacturer “=NOKIA
*b)change” PhoneManufacturerModelName “=RM-1089_1087"
*C) change "Phone Operator name = 000-DE
* d) chane "Phone model Name =Lumia 735
Now open insider app hit insider fast ring and then reboot.
