Completely cleaning new OnePlus 3t A3010 device - some questions - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I purchased a Oneplus 3T device A3010, as far as i understood i am expected to receive hydrogen os with it, but i received oxygen os 3.5.3.
It seems to me like the seller might have changed the rom by himself and might have even put some spyware on my device or what not..
I want to completely clean my device, Im a tech savvy person, i dont have a problem reading and understanding what i read.. now i've been searching online and i am just a bit confused between everything, bootloader/root/twrp/ad sideload etc..
If i just download the stock rom from Oneplus and use adb sideload, will this make sure i do not have unwanted software on my device? or is there a possibility that something is stuck on the device, some piece of software i do not want.. or root permissions/boot loader is unlocked.. i dont know.. i am just a bit confused
are there specific steps you think i should take in order to make sure my phone is clean? also, what is the best software to date to check if my phone is rooted? i know there are some rooting methods that make sure it stays invisible and hard to detect..
like:
1. download X software - check if you are rooted
2. download Y software - lock bootloader
3. sideload the stock rom.. etc..

Download official OOS 4.1.0 then flash it, then perform a factory reset.
Any 3rd party app will completely erased

[Q] Questions about P7-L00 - Rooting, CWM and L10 build(s)/ROMS

Hello XDA,
Ive looked somewhat specifically for this and havent found any clean cut answers to my questions - so first and foremost, if its a RTFM jobby, please do tell me and I'll go back to the search page and carry on reading. With that said, I was hoping someone might be able to assist me with the following:
[Current Build/SW version = P7-L00V100r001C17B117SP01 - EUI2.3 - I kept this version as I read that it became harder to root after that or on the latest build so thought not to make my life harder with what is completely new to me.]
1) I have a P7 L00 model and plan on using this in the UK - Ive checked the will my phone work website and o2 and EE will both work (contrary to what Ive read on both the huawei site and another one (which I cant remember) stating that the only Baseband that will work with the L00 model is EE) so wanted to ask if anyone can confirm o2 usage?
2) Can I use an L10 stock Rom to get rid of all the chinese default apps on this? I did get to a Chinese website with lots of EMUI roms but wasnt sure what to go with.
3) Is there a vanilla 5.1 or CyanogenMod ROM available? I have indeed just read the post on ubergizmo about 5.1 coming to the P7 but there wasnt a set date for it, and I'd assume that L00 model might be a different date altogether.
4) When Rooting and unlocking the bootloader via a thread I found on here (made by SeverusSnape and a few others ), I get to the part where I can use ROM Manager, but when I go into it and get auto prompted for Recovery set, it asks me to setup a custom recovery, and neither of the options I select give me anything - I select ClockworkMod REcovery and my device isnt listed, I hit the Device not listed selection and it tells me that there isnt an officially supported CWMR yet, have you installed a CWM based recovery manually? Yes takes me to a selection of CWM 2.xx or 3.xx and no tells me Until CWMR us available, ROM manager will not work with p7-L00.
Im unsure what Im doing wrong or what Ive missed?
5) Lastly, what I think I do get is if I've rooted using RootGenius, pulled over the play store APK, installed what I need to/want to use, I can use this as if it wasn't the L00 model?
Are there any future consequences (banking apps I know probably wont work with a rooted device) that would stop me from using the phone as a UK phone, and not possibly routing me through some central Chinese DB? (I ask this as im using WiFi on it now, and its pulling the latest version for it from somewhere, so would like to know where)
Again, apologies if this is all somewhere, but I do find that reading one thread links you to another, and then to another and another. Rinse repeat and its just got me a bit confused - its like Youtube videos except with lots of reading...
Many thanks for your time.
(PS. Id post a hilarious cat GIF but I cant do links yet )
Even some help pointing me in the right direction would be great.
Questions
I have similar questions
I don't believe there is a 5.1 CM available.
Would be great if we could flash L10 rom, but not sure if this will lose bands / functionality
Hey, I could not help you at all questions.. But anyway..
2.) No you can't. They're not compatible, so you risk to hard brick your device.
3.) There is no vanilla/ aosp/ cm Rom available, and probaly won't be also in future unfortunately. But for your L00 there is a miui v6 Rom available (just look in xda or Chinese forums). These days the official lollipop beta test is running, at the end of this month we might expect the final rom for all P7 devices (if all works as it is supposed to do..).
4.) It may be the best to look for a custom recovery in the "Android development" section and flash it per adb. Take a look to the right emui version, otherwise the recovery system won't work.
5.) I'd recommend to root your device, to delete all stuff you do not need and to flash Google Apps through your custom recovery afterwards. If you only install the apps you need in classical way, I assume you do not get all services running.
I hope I could help you a bit, even if some other people could do way better. I would recommend to ask specific question in smaller local forums.. Often they could help you more.
Thank you l3Nni.
I'll have a look through that and get back to you.

Hydrogen OS 2.5.1 to Oxygen OS 3.5

Hi everyone,
I literally just got the Chinese version of the oneplus 3T (A3010) and I want to move from Hydrogen OS 2.5.1 to Oxygen OS 3.5 official with OTA. Does anyone have the file or instructions how to do this? I found instructions for the oneplus 3 but not sure with this model. I'm sure any help would help out a lot of people who are gonna ask this question.
Also will this unlock the bootloader? Just curious about it affecting android pay.
Thank you!

Wanna do me a favor and grab a nandroid backup of your rom before you kill it? I actually want h2os
Aside from that, you should theoretically be able to: ("Official" guide https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...oid-efs-backup-and-more.475142/#post-15431571)
Unlock the bootloader
Flash TWRP
Flash dm-verity
Flash OOS 3.5.3 from the ROM page, I have a mirror too (http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/zip-flashable-firmware-modem-t3509015) mirror on pg 2.
and you'll be set, you can flash the original recovery if it's available on the OnePlus page as well and relock to go back to full stock just English version
PS: Since there is no stock recovery image available yet, maybe will have to run TWRP temporarily, rip the recovery off and then proceed? I dunno
Thanks for your quick reply! I was hoping more along the lines of the adb Sideload method and keep the bootloader locked for now though. If I go the root method sure I can share the nandroid backup.
PS the rom looks really similar to the oxygen rom, so far it looks like only the launcher is different. I guess this is part of the plan to merge the two.
Well you can try flashing the image straight. It's a stock image anyways so it could work.

Basically what I meant was to do the opposite of what is suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-h2os-2-5-oneplus-3t-released-t3511443 but with the 3.5.3 ROM
Help needed with android pay and OOS clean install
I'm in a similar situation with a chinese bought OnePlus 3G from Lazada.sg that came with Hydrogen OS. I've managed to install TWRP but because I'm completely new, got stuck and instead managed to install OOS 3.5 (now 4.## from the official website) using adb sideload.
I do have 2 questions:
1) My internet connection drops occasionally even though my WiFi is still connected, is that an issue because I might not have installed it correctly? Would a clean flash solve it?
2) I understand android pay is disabled when you unlock bootloader but even after that, will it be possible to wipe the phone clean and do a fresh install of the lastest OOS and the phone will pretty much be like the international version, with android pay re-enabled?
I believe you can use Sultanxda's patch as another way around, but it sounds complicated as hell for a new person, so I'll continue digging around while waiting for a reply.
Thank you, and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Magisk and Bootloader

Hi,
I am very new to this android world so my queries might feel stupid. Actually i m here after 3 years and that is very long period in this world. I know about rooting(super Su), bootloader and recovery (stock,CM and TWRP) . Recently read about Magisk and got some queries. Hope you will help me out. These are not device specific but need to learn.
What i read/study i found these readings...
1. Magisk roots device systemlessly (does not touch system partition) so one can get OTA updates easily.
2.To install and run Magisk one needs to unlock the bootloader .
3.(Device Specific) My redmi MI Flash tool says,If you unlock the bootloader , you wont get OTA updates.
4.I have previously rooted my galaxy Y and uninstalled system apps. If i delete sys apps from magisk, still can we say that we are not touching system.
So all statements are true? or some? or none ?
Here my device is redmi 3s (6.0.1- MIUI 9.6.1.0 Global Stable). All these queries are just in relation to OTA system updates. Nothing related to warranty.
Thanking You
Yes.
Yes.
Don't know about Xiaomi, but I've never had issues with OTA on a device with an unlocked bootloader (I've mainly used different Google and Oneplus devices). Someone with a Xiaomi is gonna have to chime in on this one.
As long as you use Magisk's debloating feature of replacing files or directories with empty ones, you're good. The actual /system partition won't be touched. Use a module like the Debloater module by @veez21, or make a debloater module yourself.

Yes. But, having both Magisk and a custom recovery (an OTA won't install with a modified boot image and a custom recovery installed) I always find it easier to download the update and flash it manually. But, like I said, I have no idea if this is true for Xiaomi.
1. Ok. i also heared that when you update your device, you lose root...not true ? Or you need to root again ?
2.In normal stock device,we get update notification and we downlaod then restart (as per convenience)device to update.
If i remove some system apps from my rooted device and unroot the device, manage to get stock recovery back ,will the OTA update system treat my device as Stock-untouched? And install updates just as stock device will do ?
3. Is boot.img and bootloader are same things? Coz i read that for re locking boot loader you need to flash boot.img from stock software. (But Some procedures just use fastboot and relock oem command-they wont use boot.img, dont know why )
I read that unrooting, restoring stock recovery and locking bootloader again is more difficult/complicated than the rooting procedure
Some one should come up with solution just like Windows Restore .If you want to go back to everything STOCK,just use that feature same as done to Restore Windows in its previous state.
Any update that also updates the boot image (which means pretty much all) will remove root. But, that's just a simple case of reflashing Magisk right after applying the update.
If you've touched /system in any way, removing system apps or even just mounting the /system partition read-write, an OTA will fail. To be able update with an OTA your /system and /vendor partitions need to be untouched and you need to have the stock boot image and stock recovery installed. If your device doesn't conform to this the OTA will fail.
Boot image and bootloader are not the same thing. That you can read up on all over the internet, so I won't go into details. If you have done any kind of modifications on your device, I suggest you leave your bootloader unlocked. It's to easy to mess things up otherwise.
Going back to full stock is usually just a matter of flashing a full factory image/firmware package/stock ROM. Quite easy... Of course, some manufacturers make it harder than others.

Ok. As you say the two are different , but can you explain in simple words (terms) that how they both are related/linked/connected? Coz as i read some forums/posts i get to read
1. To relock/lock bootloader you need to flash boot.img which suggests these (terms) are linked/connected.
2. but same time some forums/post suggest no img file flashing but just a fastboot command(s) to relock bootloader. In this case it seems they are not linked/connected.
And if the above 2 statements are true and device specific then how the bootloader and boot image are linked and not linked in diff devices? what changes are made so that in some cases these are linked and in some not
Sorry for asking too much. But you were really very kind to help me out.Thank you once again
I'm not 100% accurate (and someone will hopefully come I'm and correct me if needed), but basically the bootloader checks that everything is alright and then starts up your device. After that the boot image (ramdisk and kernel) takes over. Ramdisk basically makes sure all the partitions are mounted, and the kernel is exactly what it sounds like. The core of the OS, making sure that everything is working as it should.
This is of course a huge over-simplification, so if you want more you'll have to search around (and there are tons of resources around the web).
The main reason I can think of right at the moment for wanting to flash a boot image before locking the bootloader is that it's generally a good idea to have your device fully stock and functional before doing so. After you've locked the bootloader there might not be any going back if things start acting up and you could end up with a nice paperweight.
Questions are good. That's how you learn. I do believe that you'd be much better of searching around the internet for your answers. They've been put out there many, many times.
Ok.Thank you very much.I will learn more ...

How to upgrade rooted SM-T719 from Android 6.0.1 to Android 7 or 8

Hi,
about 2 years ago I rooted my S2 Galaxy Tab (T719) and now I would like to upgrade from Android 6.0.1 to Android version to 7 or 8. I have googled for instructions on how to upgrade a rooted S2 Tab but did not find anything useful (most info is on OTA upgrades which no longer works on rooted devices). Could someone please post step-by-step instructions (please bear in mind that I only ever deal with this kind of thing once every 2-3 years so I do not have much experience). I have TWRP v 3.0.2 installed (do I need to update this as well?) and the tablet is not encrypted (so hopefully I won't have to wipe the system partition and re-install all the app?!?). Thanks.
I also noticed that there is now a huge variety of ROMs out there. How can one know which ones are trustworthy? The main reason I rooted the tablet was to be able to increase privacy (control app permissions with XPrivacy). So I do not want to install some custom ROM that maybe contains spyware or other compromising features. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Given my motivation (privacy) for rooting, would it maybe be better to go back to Stock ROMs (i.e. non rooted) and simply control web access via netguard (by preventing net access for some apps, they may still spy on my contacts, location, or email but cannot phone home to transmit the information)? At least I would still get OTA updates because being excluded from the OTA channel also poses a security risk in itself I suppose. Ok so any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
There is no official Android 8 for our device. If you want 8 or 9 you have to install a custom ROM like LuK1337's LineageOS port. It is as safe as LineageOS is by itself on any device. Only problem you might have then is that calling is not possible anymore for now, but LTE works. If you want to use LOS, you HAVE to format data because it's not compatible at all. If you wanna stay on official Android you might keep it. Installing is done by flashing the official firmware with the correct country code over Odin. This will remove TWRP at first so you have to reflash it by Odin afterwards. For firmware download I always use: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647 and Odin is found by google. If you wanna got the way to LOS you have to do all the steps I mentioned before too anyways to have a recent Modem firmware and bootloader. In that case you just have to flash LOS and OpenGAPPS by TWRP and delete /data aka Factory reset.
Regardless what you do, after ODIN is done, you HAVE TO boot into TWRP immediately to keep it from being removed by official firmware. While you are in there anyways you can install magisk to keep it from encrypting /data
Many thanks emuandco. So I guess I will stick with the Android 7 as I do not want to reformat the tablet and reinstall all the apps. I have started to download the Android 7 stock ROM, but it is taking quite long so in the meantime just to confirm, the steps to follow are:
1- use odin to flash the stock ROM (no steps required prior to this? I simply overwrite the existing ROM? I suppose that I will loose root then and need to re-root the device using the standard procedure as explained here: http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutoria...nougat-7-0-using-cf-auto-root-all-models.html ?)
2- use odin to flash TWRP (I will need the newest version I guess and cannot use the same as for Android 6?)
3- boot into recovery mode to ensure that TWRP does not get overwritten
4- done
Is this correct? Do I then need to reinstall Xposed, SuperSU and Xprivacy or will they be preserved?
Thanks again!
P.S.: BTW, I also found these instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/twrp-3-0-2-1-galaxy-tab-s22016-sm-t713-t3390627 which are slightly different from http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutoria...nougat-7-0-using-cf-auto-root-all-models.html and require a wipe of the data partition. Does this mean that for an update to Android 7 I definitely do need to wipe the data partition? If this is the case then this would be a major disadvantage of rooting in the first place and maybe I simply flash the stock ROM and do not root at all but go the "netguard" route as mentioned in my original message?
I never used the official Firmware that much. Fist thing I did was going on LuK1337's nerves to get a port of LOS for it up and running So no clue if Samsung manages to keep /data but I guess so. Yeah, looks fine what you list there. You COMPLETELY overwrite ANY modification in kernel or /system, so reflash your mods and root (Magisk). I always recommend to uase the MOST recent TWRP. (https://dl.twrp.me/gts28velte/ should be it in your case).
Ah and looking at your manuals... Check OEM unlock just to be rather safe than sorry if things go mad.

Question Chinese apps after converting from COS to OOS

Hi comm.
I've ordered my Extreme Edition in Panda White, which hopefully should arrive till end of the week, so I'm reading all the posts and threads about converting and so on.. Because there are a lot of users which unluckily have bricked their phones, before I start with main topic from the title, just to confirm some things before I start my own conversion:
What's needed:
- Unlocked Bootloader
- Fastboot Enhance Tool
- Desired ROM, EU/IN
Special to care about:
- Be sure all COW partitions are deleted before flashing / otherwise brick
- Be sure no unknown partitions are detected before flashing / otherwise brick
All good so far?
There are different models:
- NE2115, I suppose US market?
- NE2213, I suppose Global market, EU & IN?
What for models are out there? Can anyone list them all with an short description?
I think it will also help any other user too out there, just to be clear and prevent any missmatch during downloading and staging the ROMs.
So, and now to the main topic, I've read somewhere in one of the threads here and it was also confirmed by other users, after converting from COS to OOS and performing an Factory- Reset, that the Chinese apps are back again. They can be deleted/deinstalled directly over the settings/apps menu on the phone, but they are still there..
Did anyone here, an more experienced user or maybe an dev. have figured out from where they are comming and is there an way to get rid of them permanently?
Many thanks and best
Adnan

Hi Adnan
I started a thread on the locked apps a month or so back but basically got told I shouldn't buy Chinese phones and it was just to bad. I would also like to resolve the issue I thought of maybe flashing a euro fast boot recovery onto the phone because noticed even on euro rom the fast boot recovery text was still Chinese when I reset the phone. I did not attempt for risk of brick. I have have been waiting for someone with some knowledge to post a thread on this so I can fix so I will be watching this very closely. good luck

I suppose, that all the partitions, recovery, boot, system and so on, should be reflashed / overwritten when you flash with the Fastboot Enhance Tool and the Payload.bin file.
My device will arrive today, so I'll give a try..

I'm done with my conversion, so far, all good.. Chinese apps are there, after every factory reset, but they are all deinstallable.. Didn't find from where they are comming, but I suppose there are two variants:
- An hidden partition with Chinese apps
- An app which is provisoning the apps during the first setup wizzard
I think an DEV or so should take a look at it.
What I didn't try is, there is an offical rollback package on OnePlus comm. because of Android Dev. Preview, maybe flashing this one would remove the Chinese apps? Will try it out, otherwise everything was good, no problems at all.
I installed android 13 dev last night and used rollback, no Chinese apps yet will do a factory restore later I will post my results.

I also had the idea, but I can't install it, everytime I choose local update, it kicks me back to the about the device screen.. or do I need the APK for NA? But, I'm allready on the EU ROM, so it shouldn't be necessary?

Just done factory reset and no Chinese bloat hooray!! I used the OPLocalUpdate_For_Android13.apk on oxygen updater app to install android 13/T Dev Preview after changing update method in settings the app. Then the rollback package with the OPLocal_For_Android12.apk to roll back. And which version of dev. preview did you use? EU or NA?
EU
I'm going to re-type
For this operation I used Oxygen Updater by adhira S. Chauhan from play store, and followed the instructions https://oxygenupdater.com/article/319/ to download and rollback the EU android 13/T Dev Preview
So finally I was able to get rid of all chinese apps, but an install of Dev. Preview wasn't necessary. I've downloaded the rollback package of A12 from OnePlus, then I rebooted the phone to fastbootd, and entered the recovery on the phone.
Then I flashed the Payload.bin file, and all was good. Since then, I did two factory resets, and both time, the phone was up without any Chinese stuff.

So it occurred to me that 9008 is EDL mode. A mode in which the phone can accept msm firehose restorations. I just want to know if modem firmware changes from the Chinese version to whichever variant (EU/global) you flash to

A bit to high for me right now, 9008 seams to be for an EDL mode, but as much as I know, for EDL mode we need MSM tool, which is still not out yet.. Also, have no idea what 9008 is, EDL mode OK, but EU, IN, NA? Version and so on.. The risk to flash something wrong and to end with an brick, where we currently don't have an option to unbick is just to high..

There isn't an OOS MSM anywhere for the 10 Pro that I have seen, only COS, and the COS MSM requires tech support to actually log in to be of any use.
