camera API2 mod: is DNG working for you? - Xiaomi Mi MIX Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I've modded the camera by adding a setting to build.prop: 'persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1'
This unlocked nicely Camera 2 API, that was confirmed by Manual Camera Compatibility app (all green).
Now I can use for example Lightroom camera for manual settings, but when I choose DNG as the forat to save it crashes Lightroom app.
The FV-5 camera does not even allow me to choose DNG. So is this phone capable of using DNG?
I'm on MIUI Global 8.2 stable.

I have enabled Camera API2 on my phone but Lightroom can't import the DNG, even those capture by Lightroom.
I use Photo Mate R3. It work very well.

Use the Adobe DNG Converter

Just have enabled the Camera API2 on build.props and use any camera software that capture raw. I use ProShot to capture and Pro Mate R3 to edit.

Gotcha!
So this is what is going on: Indeed, any camera capable of API2 produce DNG files. Lightroom too. But, Lightroom camera crashes when saving DNG and cannot read them (even that it captured it itself). Pro Mate R3 can read it indeed. DNG files are invisible in Google Pictures, they are only visible in file explorer (or capable applications like Pro Mate R3).
Lightroom can capture and process DNGs using front camera. This is about Lightroom 2.3.2
Thanks for clarification!

Best camera app & settings?

I'm curious as to what your favorite app and settings you use for your 3T. I'm a OnePlus n00b and have been using the stock app along with Cameringo+ with good results but ideas are always welcomed. I'd do a poll but the options are endless.
Stock camera app and ProShot with noise reduction disabled. That's all you need.

Thanks but I don't see Pro Shot or Noise Reduction in the stock app. Where do I find those? I checked both Settings options.
Unless you mean Manual mode and leave everything else on Auto.
HDRa is Auto HDR, HQ is best for low light. In camera when you see video, camera etc click the cog and you can select RAW. You won't see these in your gallery but using lightroom or snapspeed (it's free) you can open a picture from gallery and it will pick up on the raw photo. These look awful to begin with as they are not processed at all and are 50mb+ but one you develop them yourself to your desired look you get some quality photos from them.

I thank you for your reply and I'm aware of the RAW format and Snapseed/Photoshop/etc. I'm more interested in the settings for most everyday use of the camera on the OnePlus 3T.
I've been having good results with CameraMX

I have been trying open camera from time to time. It allows you to enable the camera 2api and takes some great pictures. I find the flash on stock flawed at times as if the shutter speeds is off point to the flash and this overcomes that problem.
I'm not a big selfie fan or photo gay. But in my Samsung S6 I'm using stock camera application with few addons + Candy Selfie for taking selfies when I need.
Can anyone help me with the video settings.
In 1080p OIS does not seem to work at all
1080p / 60fps it does work
I cannot find any settings to alter this. Thanks.

[GUIDE] [ROOT] Enable RAW capture in the stock EMUI camera app

If this is common knowledge, I apologize for the redundancy of this post, however I doubt it, since I searched for a way to do this for quite a bit of time, until I finally found a way.
As you probably know, if you're into photography, the P9 Lite supports Camera 2 API which allows for the capture of RAW pictures in .dng format.
This is especially useful for editing, as RAW images contain lots more information, especially in the shadows and highlights.
While there are several 3rd party camera apps that allow RAW capture, having tried most of them, none even comes close to the stock camera app. They're either clunky to use, or they're ugly as sin (I'm looking at you Open Camera, which is both).
To enable this feature on the P9 Lite is actually very simple, but it DOES require ROOT.
This is how to do it:
1. Ensure your device is rooted
2. Use a root file explorer and navigate to /system/emui/lite/prop/local.prop and open the file as text.
3. Change the value of ro.build.hw_emui_lite.enable from true to false
4. Save the file
5. Reboot the device
6. Open the stock Camera app
7. Enable Pro Photo mode
8. Go to settings and enable RAW.
Happy shooting, happy editing.
Already had that line disabled for other reasons. Didn't know it also makes shooting in RAW possible. Thanks!
I had it disabled for the transparent notification panel, bit yeah...I needed this so much!
Thanks!

Haha, to each his own.
Personally, I dislike the transparent notification panel. I would like to keep it solid black and still have RAW, but hey... I'll take what I can get, and RAW capture is more important.
Cool, https://www.xda-developers.com/guide-enables-raw-capture-in-the-stock-huawei-p9-lite-camera/
Nice, also seems to work for the (Huawei) Honor 6X. Thanks.
My joy at this discovery was short-lived, but then again, isn't that the very nature of joy?
Poetry aside, here's what's wrong.
Shooting RAW, the camera takes one compressed .jpeg and one RAW .dng. However, no matter the shooting conditions, the RAW .dng always comes out blurry and very soft.
I used a tripod, very very fast shutter speeds, in broad daylight and the .dngs ALWAYS come out unfocused.
Anyone able to chime in an maybe offer some insight?

It seems like the default gallery app doesn't render the RAW files properly. View them in another gallery app with RAW support or import them to your prefered photoeditor and they look fine

You're right.
Imported into Lightroom, the .dng is actually quite a bit sharper than the .jpeg.
Thanks muchly!
Thanks, im wating for this a long time

It can read them, but not properly. It shows them really blurry, like they're not focused.

I don't use any. I open the files in either Snapseed on my phone, or Lightroom on my PC and edit.

Just wanted to ask if it captures raw in all the modes like light painting and night and even in just normal photo mode. does it works only with pro mode ?
Please reply.
Thanks in advance.

No. Only in Pro Photo mode.
But you can do light painting in Pro Photo mode with longer exposures and get the best of both worlds. RAW and light painting.

P20 pro raw photos not working on third party apps

Dear all,
I noticed that I cannot use any third party app to capture RAW photos. I tried Footej Camera, Open Camera, Adobe Lightroom, VSCO, Lumio Cam and everything I could find. I cannot enable raw photos with any of them. Footej support contacted me and told me that they can try to find a workaround from the log file I generated, it seems that this phone does not support Android API. Do you guys have any knowledge about this?
The only app that seems to record some sort of RAW file is Bacon Cam, but this does not have support for the telephoto lens, and all the raw photos with zoom, are actually cropped from the 40 mpx sensor.
Freedcam can do raw: https://t.me/joinchat/BdeA6xCXJ-DvG0wT_kjW-A
Even the stock camera app will not give you a raw file from the telephoto lens. You can't use zoom when you enable RAW in Pro mode.
Thank you, I tried Freed am and unfortunately it does not let me use raw mode, only jpeg.

RAW DNG Support

Just thought I'd share, although it might be common knowledge, that I didn't realise the X720's camera supports RAW output.
I'm using 'HD Camera Pro' which is currently free on the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andromedia.manual.camera.dslr
This app outputs to DNG and CaptureOne reads these files just like any other DNG (although MacOS Finder struggles). If you wish to process DNG files on the phone you'll need Snapseed.
Images are aways 31.08MB which suggests that they are a true capture of the camera sensor's RAW data.
Images are definitely sharper and contain more detail but saturation needs boosting (buts that's fairly normal for RAW images).

Nope, well at least not using the Magisk module or adding the enabling line manually.

Any way to take 48 mp RAW?

Since there's is no RAW option in the stock camera app, i tried third party app Open Camera, but was fairly disappointed to see the RAW is just 12 mp while Jpeg saved is 48 mp. Is there any way to shoot [email protected]?
I would suggest you find Gcam port for K20 pro. there are many working examples. there you can easily save in RAW

Possible with the Footej camera app
Guys i found a gcam which can click at 48MP 8000x6000px pictures at jpeg but only limited to potrait mode.
The camera function doesn't work in this gcam if hdr enhanced is enabled so raw doesn't work but potrait works well.

Please do test and tell me if it is working for you as well.
For me it is working..
My device : k20 pro
Try ultra cam with the magisk module
You can use ANX camera
