I have an S4, the wife has an S6 Active. Both previously AT&T and now unlocked, working on T-Mobile. Aside from worrying about updates I wanted to flash a T-Mobile ROM to be able to use the WiFi Calling they offer. I'm downloading the ROM now for my S4, but it appears T-Mobile didn't sale the S6 Active, so I don't know which ROM to go for that wont brick the phone.
Does anyone have experience with flashing a stock T-Mobile S6 ROM to an S6 Active? I know the case and screen are different, but I don't know enough about the internals to know if this would work? Any other options, custom ROM's (last time I used a custom ROM I ended up with random connections from my "idle" phone to Russian IP's..). Any custom ROM's that would actually have the T-Mobile WiFi calling features?
I apologize if this has been answered, but searching only resulted in one other person asking the same question with no answer.

Currently I have the S4 Active I537 under AT&T. It's rooted but you can't do much with roms even with safestrap bc of the locked bootloader. I'm contemplating getting another device better yet a new service provier bc AT&T is cracking down on everything. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I keep AT&T and get a new device or just get a new device and service provider? Anyone know anything about Straight Talk? I want to be able to do more when it comes to customization, mods, etc.
My wife sat her old Galaxy phone down at a big event we went to... it's gone. So I was looking for a new phone and found an S4 Active from AT&T for really cheap. I talked to T-Mobile and they assured me we would be able to get everything working easily.
So I bought it. Got it unlocked through AT&T. Plugged in my wifes new sim and boom - we're up and running. I changed the APN stuff - the network is T-Mobile and all settings work. She gets talk, text, text pictures, etc. I can get on the internet etc. Problem is we're in a place that has weak LTE and very good Edge. My Note 3 from T-Mobile gets perfect 4G and switches between that and a couple bars of LTE from time to time.
This phone gets weak LTE but then switches to Edge to get a better connection.
Yes I've tried the guides to get the 4G radio working (galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-tutorials/how-to-enable-t-mobile-hspa-aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337 etc etc) and I even tried following a guide in here that has me flash the modem back to MF1 or whatever it is through ODEN - that just hung on "Setup Connection" and never did anything.
Look - I know the S4 Active is beginning to get a bit old but it's still a really nice phone and it works great. It's more than my wife needs but we need it to get 4G where we're located. Is there an updated way to get this done? Root and custom ROM? New way to fix the radio? Trust me I've searched all over and haven't found it so I thought I would ask. Maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing but I need help as to how to do this now - not from posts 2 years ago.
AT&T Galaxy S4 Active SGH-I537
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband Version I537UCUCNE3
Kernal Version 3.4.0-987011
Anything else you would need to know to help out? I'm at the point where my good deal just isn't a good deal anymore and I'm starting to look at T-Mobile phones instead of unlocked ones. Frustrated. =-(
As I further educate myself on device modding, some things that show that I am still somewhat of a noob are evident. So apologies for the possibly seemingly stupid question.
I have a Galaxy Tab S2 with Sprint and the service contract has ended. I have NO DESIRE to renew it and as of now there is no service to it. What can or can I not flash to this device if I do not care if the CDMA/LTE radio never works again, but I do not want to break wifi or brick the device obviously?
It is on the Lollipop stock and is currently driving me nuts with constant warnings about not being connected to data and that I need wifi (duh). Can someone recommend a good Rom that is wifi only that will not brick my device? Can I flash the stock touchwiz meant for the wifi only variant if I do not care about the LTE radio? Is there an AOSP or other TouchWiz rom (fine with either) that would work?
Thanks.
Can't you just put it in airplane mode and switch wifi on?
Well yes of course, but what I am wanting is something that properly runs without having to manually disable the LTE radio. Do you know if flashing the wifi only variant OEM software would brick it? I honestly don't care if it ruins the LTE radio as long as it otherwise works
Flashing the boot image for the T810 with twrp will disable the LTE.
Obviously make a full back up first including the boot partition BEFORE flashing anything.
Or just go buy a WiFi only device. ........
I have just bought a new house, but don't like the wallpaper. I was going to remove it, shall I just by another house instead?
Thank you.
Hey all! Forgive my ignorance, it's been a long time since I've done anything with firmware on Android phones (since I flashed a custom ROM to my Motorola Droid X about 10 years ago, lol). I've been poring over these forums for a few hours now and trying to piece some information together, but I could really use a hand from some more experienced folks.
Here's my situation: I'm in the U.S. I own an AT&T SM-N950U, and a Verizon SM-N950U. The Verizon phone is no longer being used (since April of 2018). I accidentally dropped the AT&T phone and heavily damaged the screen/digitizer and chassis, and would like to go back to using the Verizon phone, but on AT&T's network. I swapped the AT&T SIM to the VZW phone, and I was surprised to see that after a reboot, the AT&T splash screen came up, and after a factory reset, acted just like a new AT&T phone. It will send and receive data, SMS, and phone calls. However, the phone is still running Oreo, and when I tried to update it through OTA or through Samsung Smart Switch, it said that the phone was up to date. A little digging in the settings shows me that the phone is still considered a VZW-branded phone (ATT/ATT/VZW), and I believe this is the reason why I'm not able to receive the OTA updates. I also noticed that I no longer get 5G service, and I'm worried that there may be other functions missing too. I've seen BlueFox721's guide on carrier switching, and decided to do a bit more research before making an attempt, but I figured I would ask some questions.
First off, my main goal is to get this VZW Note 8 to work with all intended functionality of an up-to-date AT&T Note 8, including future OTA updates, bloatware, the whole deal. Is this actually possible?
If it is possible, can it be done without tripping Knox and hindering Samsung functionality?
I've read that root isn't possible with any bootloader past v3... I'm running v4 (N950USQU4CRF3). Is root necessary to switch carriers, or is it as simple as flashing an AT&T firmware with a newer bootloader version than what I currently use?
Again, I know a lot of this information is out there, but there's just so much to comb through I thought it might be better to just ask in regards to my particular situation, in case I'm not understanding something correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hello. I used to have a Note 9, but it died and Samsung refunded me because they couldn't repair it in warranty. I bought a new Note 9 on Swappa that was supposed to be unlocked, but it turned out to be the Sprint version when I look up IMIE and also that it is the SM-N960U instead of the expected SM-N960U1. I put in my Verizon SIM card and it simply switched to Verizon firmware. It has Verizon apps and Verizon splash screen, but otherwise is in great condition and works fine. I also noticed I can do wifi calling when I could not before and the visual voicemail works way better. I could demand a refund and return it, deal with the Verizon firmware, or potentially flash unlocked ROM?
If I use Odin with unlocked ROM on Sammobile, will I trip Knox? I want to use Samsung pay. Also, is it recommended to even do it? I would not have to deal with Verizon ROM and splash screen, but I would also lose Wifi calling and reliable visual voicemail. I don't know if I have gotten better signal. Would I lose anything else by flashing and would I gain anything else? Will I be able to still root the Verizon firmware and install custom ROM in the future if I decide I don't care about Samsung pay anymore? Thank you.
If your device is working fine as is I wouldn't bother installing the stock Samsung OS onto it. I have the LG U+ release of the N950N and I am perfectly fine with the LG U+ splash screen during boot up and all the Korean bloatware installed on it.
