EFIDroid is a easy to use, powerful 2ndstage-bootloader based on EDKII(UEFI).
It can be installed one-click with the EFIDroidManager app. You can add/remove/edit multiboot ROM's.
There's no special support needed by ROM's or RecoveryTools(no kexec etc).

Note: Tested on SM-G900V/kltevzw other variant are untested, but should work.

FAQ
this is a UEFI port, can we port Windows?
no, trust me.
Can I still use fastboot after installing this?
If you flash to the boot/recovery partitions, UEFI will be overwritten.(dd in android/recovery instead). all other partitions work as usual.
I FOUND A BUG
Report it on Github. If there already is an issue for your bug and you don't have anything useful to add, just hit the thumbs-up button. This way I know how many people are affected and can adjust my priority list. I will not keep track of all bugs reported in posts of this thread. If you want a bug to get fixed, report it on github
Installation
Just download the attached EFIDroidManager App, the EFIDroid Manager app from the Play Store won't work.
Open the menu (at the top left), and click "Install/Update".
Click the big orange Install button.
Multibooting
You can use EFIDroid as a multiboot manager. To add a multiboot ROM, do the following:
Open the EFIDroid Manager app. Press the plus button at the bottom right side of the screen to start adding a multiboot slot.
Under "Location", there should be a couple paths. Select the one containing "/data/media/0".
You can give the slot a name/description by using the appropriate fields.
Press the checkmark at the top right side of the screen to create the multiboot slot.
Reboot. When EFIDroid comes up, select TWRP, then select the newly created slot.
Go to the "Wipe > Advanced Wipe" menu. Select "System", then swipe to wipe.
Install all the zips you want on that slot.
NOTE: To prevent accidentall data loss when booting in recovery the real /sdcard gets mocked so you are not going to find your .zips as usual under TWRP's /sdcard. To acces the "real" /sdcard go to /multiboot/data/media/0
Reboot, and when EFIDroid comes up, your new slot should automatically be selected. Press the power button to boot, and enjoy!
IMPORTANT:your main ROM should boot without changing any configuration on EFIDroid but secondary ROM's are used to fail because of selinux denials. I strongly reccomend you to enable Force SELinux to permissive under EFIDroid options (the Gear icon in the main screen placed at the top right) - Once you kwon your secondary ROM is working you can try to boot without this option disabled - If you end up in a bootloop logcat and dmesg are welcome.

Does this use the Qualcomm S5 bootloader vulnerability that is going to be fixed with the Samsung March Security Patch? If so, people may need to revert/prevent updating to avoid problems.

This is cm13 build.prop, I meant the stock one, any way if cm13 for klte work for you, EFIDroid works.
Wow this is some cool stuff. So....Any ROM is compatible? Stock? Aosp? Custom stock based?
---------- Post added at 02:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:04 PM ----------
This is a cool thing to have because it doesn't forbid you from using several ROMs like multi ROM did.

From the app, press on the slot rom you created for a while then delete it.
Multiboot currently not working on kltevze, dont know about other variants!
Any way I was working on multiboot recovery and got it to work on s5, I will release new build soon.

Thank you bro. Sure I'm going to test your new build :highfive::highfive:
Well... I'm in a sh*ithole at the moment. I updated my ROM (CosmicOS) or maybe was it because of updating Magisk?)) & now I can't anymore boot to it nor can I go to recovery... When I try to boot the ROM (says Android 7.1.1 (internal)) then it's on the "Booting Android 7.1.1..." phase & then?
Error
can't find tagloader for type 'RAW'(-1)
Is there a way to bring back my ROM to life? Only the fastboot & Download mode work...
EDIT: I managed to get TWRP to work, which is a little success... But it now redirects me to it when I try to boot the ROM
EDIT 2: Well, unfortunately, I had to wipe the OS & install it again but this time it booted normally, which makes me happy & doesn't at the same time... If the dev could answer me on all of that, would be gr8
Related
I won't write long and fancy descriptions... I am planning to keep both kernel and the OP as clean as possible.
This kernel is for Xperia-T only and supports only Sony ICS ROMs for now.
FEATURES:
Autoroot
Some optimizations by cherrypicking from others & upstream
Some change-this-and-that kind of optimizations on governors
Some additional I/O Schedulers (sio, v/r)
Undervolting support
Overclocking support (192-1890MHz) with some modifications on thermal throttling to prevent overclocked values to be used during boot.
Custom CWM-based recovery with touch gestures (thanks to sk8erwitskil for the gesture support)
STweaks support (included in the kernel or from Google Play). it is an opensource app which generates dynamic UIs based on /res/uci.sh script interface and lets your set some kernel parameters easily. It will be auto-installed.
Fast-dormancy is disabled as default. You can enable it using STweaks.
KNOWN ISSUES:
Some STweaks settings are not effective
kernel needs some time to apply settings and you may feel some lag for the first 2-3 minutes. this will be fixed soon.
TODO:
cm10 support
Xperia TX support
dual-boot
more features...

I will test this on my rom and link it to the all in one thread.
Works fine ROM-Assaye
Touch recovery is excellent!
No vibration on prompt to recovery, but has purple LED, I would appreciate the vibraion back please.
Will test other feature in time.
EDIT:
Unexpected error in STweaks
i've just installed this kernel.....works great!! smoother and faster.... now trying !!! thanks!!!

I have not tested it on TX and that is why I wrote "Xperia-T only" to the first post.

I haven't tested it on cm10 although I put some init files to the ramfs.
it will probably not boot on CM10 or anything based on that.
it is still on my todo, but will send you a message when I need it to be tested on an additional device.

no worries.
i know the cm10/paranoid kernels have no boot animations, which was offputting for the first few boots.
as greg asked before, can we keep the vibration for cm prompt if possible?
oops.. tested STweaks now and it doesn't work. seems like I will upload 0.2 in 20 mins
and I will put the vibration before cwm amber light toggle.
damn.. I think I will never be able to have a first release fully working

Another problem..sorry. its not really a bug, just something that could be made better
The backup option does not have a confirm option, which i found painful on non touch versions becuase i sometimes hit the power button instead of volume up or down and start a backup by mistake.
I have just done the same again because as son as it finished a backup I went to pick the phone up and touched the screen on the enter butoon and another backup started....could you implement an "are you sure" option like on other screens where you have to scroll up and down through a load of no options before you hit yes...
I have uploaded v0.2
-added vibration during boot, just before cwm prompt
-fixed stweaks xml file (the problem was related with a last minute addition of sched_mc parameter)
Hi gok, if you want it moving over to Original Development let me know as your work generally couldn't get much more original
I won't be round till later but will move it then if none of the other mods see it first.

thank you for your kind comment but for now the kernel is not so original.
it has some cherrypicks and influences from some other repos although some parts are carefully corrected.
I want to make an example of "it is not who you are which makes your posts to be placed in original development but it is what you do"... and kernels can be unoriginal work as well.
I will ask for your evaluation once I feel like the work is more original
thank you again.

no problem. It failed on both the backups i made with this recovery and now just failed on a known good .tar backup i made with a previous recovery.
It fails at different times, once on restoring system once on a md5 ismatch (On the new backups) and on the known good backup it failed on restoting data
"Error while restoring /sdcard/ .android /.androi_secure!"
But its a good looking recovery, I will be using it when these wrinkles are ironed out.
Again, many thanks, and if the confirm option for the backup is implemented as well, I would be over the moon.

Nothing works quite as well as stock in my opinion. So here is a stripped down version of the BOJ1 Nook Rom. It should work on any 710/810. So may I present to you for your flashing pleasure....

Choose to your liking
810 version of Nook
Almost all Samsung apps removed
Bloat removed

Removed almost all downloadable apps from /system - give the Tab some wiggle room.
Permissive kernel
init.d support in kernel
init.d scripts
Permission fix for writing to Ext SD
build prop tweaks
zipalign /data apps on reboot
busybox
Probably other stuff I can't remember
Install: This must be a clean install to work as I made it. No restoring either from Tb or TWRP or...
In TWRP, wipe /system, /cache, /data, /dalvic
Flash ROM
Profit!!
Notes:
On first boot you can sign in to Samsung if you want. It'll give you an option to restore.
SU will need to be updated. Just do it through the Playstore.
******
Not in PB1 version If you DO NOT want the BNN interface/apps, you'll need to use a rooted explorer and delete /system/app/NookAMV. Then got to App Manager and uninstall Nook.app.
*******
Xposed versions can take up to 5min on first boot. Just be aware
******
Possible bugs
None that I know of.
I can't help you if its not a clean install
xposed- just not a fan. It affects performance
Restores from anything - not a fan of Tb either. It creates issues also.

1st one is if you remove the BNN apps this is what you're left with

Flashed ROM with permissive kernel. It boots up but the touchscreen is messed up so can't get through first page of set up
Hey everyone ! This is an unofficial version of Carbon ROM LP-5.1.1 for Asus Zenfone 5.
I've designed it using some fragile source codes. This includes the source codes from quanganh2627 & tank0412.
Before you begin:
Code:
You know the story:
I'm not responsible if you device is wrecked....
....
....
Your warranty will be void(duh)!
....
....
And so on...
And the ROM has most common problems as expected from an AOSP/CM based ROM :silly:
Bug list:
1. Vibration doesn't work
2. Initial boot time is late
3. Battery backup is kinda low on extreme usage only
4. SystemUI crashes randomly
5. Setting would crash if you open info about Carbon ROM from Carbon Fibre option in settings
6. Occasional lags here and there
7. FM radio is not tested yet
8. Any other device apart from a500cg is also not tested. If interested you may.
9. GPS is not yet tested due to lack of time
10. Crashes of AOSP keyboard after theme change (occurs only at first)
11. HW key customization.
What is working: : :fingers-crossed:
1. Dual Sim
2. Brightness
3. Sounds
4. Customization
5. Multi-user mode
6. Memory card support
7. Pretty much everything else works quite fine.
Download:
System.img
Boot.img
Gapps
How to flash it:
( Actually the installation guide is provided with the .rar file downloaded. )
1. Download the system, boot & gapps from the links above.
2. Please make sure you have ADB & Fastboot available. If not please Google it or it's available in many thread too.
3. Now extract the "CarbonROM IMG Compressed.rar" to the ADB/Fastboot directory.
4. Copy the "boot.img" & "open_gapps-x86-5.1-pico-20160410.zip" to the same directory.
5. Reboot to recovery and clear user data.
6. Now from the recovery reboot to bootloader.
7. In the bootloader/droidboot/fastboot mode tpe in the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash update open_gapps-x86-5.1-pico-20160410.zip
8. And you're done.
9. Please note that the first boot might take some time.
Thanks for giving it a shot...

For vibrator is better to use this patch because quanganh's patch disables Low-Priority vibration.
Also, @PaletroxZ try this
- For late initial boot time
Code:
WITH_DEXPREOPT := true
Also I agree with tank, better use ZIP or 7-Zip to compress.
Hope it helps, great work!

For vibrator is better to use this patch because quanganh's patch disables Low-Priority vibration.
Also, @PaletroxZ try this
- For late initial boot time
Code:
WITH_DEXPREOPT := true
Also I agree with tank, better use ZIP or 7-Zip to compress.
Hope it helps, great work!

Best part of this ROM
@PaletroxZ........bro.....the best part of this ROM is.......touch screen gets disabled when im in a call. I found other roms keep it enabled and caused me to turn on loud speaker/dialer/call hold/airplane mode etc. keep up your good work. :good: so far only 1 prob i have. like other custom roms, im facing the same camera black out issue.

My primary/back camera is always blank/dark/black when ever i open any camera app. It captures photos only when the flash is ON. Otherwise it takes black images. First, I thought it was related to hardware but i gave a try with stock(locked bootloader and only UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-2.21.40.30-user.zip, other zips couldn't fix it) and it worked fine. So the issue lies with unlocked bootloader/camera driver i guess, not with hardware. Moreover, when i turn on my front camera, it says "Camera failed to launch. Please reboot your device." pls check the attached log.

Hmm... Looks quite complicated. By the way did you check with other Camera Apps or try re-locking the bootloader? And I never got such issue. So which model are you precisely using, like a500cg or a502cg etc, which one??

BTW Goyawifi Testers are still needed for confirming CM requirements for T113
Tested on T113, Tab E lite. Booted with no issue. Wi-Fi would not connect but I was able to share an internet connection via Bluetooth with my Nexus 6. Was able to log into my Google account.
1 random reboot.
FC on the play store and Gmail app after logging in..
Advanced power menu didn't reboot to recovery, only shut the tablet off.
Didn't really to much extended testing, just maybe 30 minutes or so
Need a tester, let me know.

Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
DOWNLOAD: Fixed....
Things that are different from official build:
fixed wrong theme color in screenshots on OP6.
Add support for QCOM haptics vibrator. (fixed vibration)
BUGS:
mtp (causes kernel panics) (can add a test build if needed)
flashing aroma packages

I'm working with your 3.2.1 version since the beginning and except aroma absolut everything is working. Never had any issue with MTP. Always worked stable so far. I did countless restores and all worked flawless even with swipe code in place.
So thanks very much to provide us with the very first working TWRP for the OP6.
Regarding aroma support, would you agree to my feeling that this is not an issue to be solved in the twrp framework but probably being a bootloader or firmware issue?
Simple temporary fix to avoid kernel panic on mtp:
Do not connect usb cable
Toogle unmount mtp, wait few second and enable mtp again in mount menu in recovery. Connect usb.

seems like its a dead issue at the moment on twrp. aroma hasnt been updated in a while. I am in contact with a dev who may know how to fix it. Stay tuned

Seems to be a general problem. I've the same, but not only with this version of TWRP, also with the original version.
It starts by me sometimes flashing 3.2.1.0 if i remember right and I never found a solution to get the screen brightness full back again ?

Could this have anything to do with why aroma isn't working?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445/page5
From the magisk 16.6 change log.
Note to ROM Developers
If you are embedding Magisk Zip into your ROM, and your ROM uses Aroma Installer, please be aware that on some devices (most likely Samsung devices), it is possible that the installation process of Magisk could break Aroma. Please test flashing your ROM zip before releasing to your users. If you found out you are the few unfortunate devices, unzip the Magisk zip, and do the following changes and re-zip the installer:
Code:
# Remove or comment out these 2 lines in META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script eval $BOOTSIGNER -verify < $BOOTIMAGE && BOOTSIGNED=true $BOOTSIGNED && ui_print "- Boot image is signed with AVB 1.0"
The reason why Aroma Installer breaks is unknown. Maybe consider letting the project that's abandoned for nearly 5 years go?
