What does this mean? "No wifi" really activated in Android? Does Android see an active wifi connection that there isn't?
Did you ever find a work around. Can’t get xposed on my phone with android 8....
more than 1 years after and no one figured out how to do that ?
Where is the Android community ?
Looks like Android is dead, and only app now are stupid useless one (like, doing tethering... seriously, all phones can do that since years...)
Too bad.
Use wifi direct. Start a group, then disconnect the group but leave the part running where your phone is broadcasting it's own WiFi network and connect your devices to that network. If they are part of the group that it creates when you first start it, then they will not be able to connect to it's wifi network.

Hi,
Is there any sulotions for ICS to support ad hoc? I have searched alot and I need to connect my Note to my PC's internet. The problem is that my pc is to old to support connectify etc...
Reverse tethering app uses my data plan in order to appear the connection as 3G. And it uses cable. Not good enough.
Ad hoc would be best option.
Thank you

If you ever heard of an application for Nokia called JOIKU HOTSPOT you will be interested on this topic. I use joiku hotspot on my nokia phone to enable to connect to multiple devices at home. I don't have wired internet. Since this is an ahhoc wifi hotspot I am not updating to ICS unless a hack is available to enable wpa supplicant to "see" the joiku adhoc signal. On gingerbread I had to download and install a modified wpa supplicant file to connect to joiku .

I have used joiku on my nokia
exactly i still dont understand wat exact you want.
You saying reverse tethering have some issue - Now reverse tether application using your wired Internet of your PC for your android device
While Joiku spot is for sharing your device network to PC
So question is you want to share net from your device to PC
OR
want to share PC internet to device?
Edit :wat i understand now is
You dont have wifi router, but just you have created wireless netwok (virtual) and you want to share your device net to PC wirelessly
if yes
try this, it have ad hoc support if i remember correctly, since long i have not used it.

I don't know. It is strange. If i have no credits in my sim card, and I connect to internet via the app, it goes fine. But I can't see connection as 3G and some apps don't work due to this.
Then when I put credits to my sim card, the connection appears as 3G. And the data plan button turns green whenb checking in setings. If i turn of I lose coonection as 3G. Some times it doesn't use data plan, but often it does.
BTW, I never use data plan for anything it is always disabled, but the reverse tether app turns on.
No idea what is wrong.

Is there any way to change settings in the phones system folder to take advantage of it's built in hotspot capabilities. Well without big red knowing about it.

Clarke33,
Do you want to use the Kindle Fire 2 as a WiFi Hot Spot or Access Point? When you say Tether, do you want
to connect your phone to your computer through USB, this is called Tethering. When you use the phone as
a WiFi connection, this is called a Hot Spot or Access Point. What type of phone would you like to use as a Hot
Spot? There is a solid app called WiFi HotSpot / WiFi Tether. The for USB Tethering, there is WiFi HotSpot &
USB Tether Lite. Respond with a little more details.

I have a grandfathered unlimited data package through Verizon and I want to be able to use my phone to supply the wifi if I am not close to a public wifi. I ran wifi analyzer and have a strong signal from my phone but it is an ad hoc signal which I understand the K f doesn't recognize.

Clarke33,
Now I understand! Yes, Ad Hoc is not supported by many devices. Change the settings from Ad Hoc
to Infrastructure in the WiFi Application. This will be in the Options or Settings of the WiFi Tethering
Application.
Ok, getting closer to something working. I downloaded Wifi Tether for Root and it has a bunch of device selections and different option but something is still not quite right. With generic ICS selected and startup method selected Netd (master) the KF recognizes the signal as infrastructure mode and will allow me to connect but when I try to access the web all I get is a white screen that never loads. Why?
I have answered my own question. I tried another app called Open Garden Wifi Tether and it works like a champ. I have it set on generic ICS and setup method as Netd (master). So far everything is working great. Before anyone thinks bad of tethering against the will of the big red V, I have a plan with 5 lines and 3 data packages (@$90/month) and I'll be danged if I am going to give them any more since I have unlimited data.

I have no problem with Tethering. I believe that we pay enough in Service Fees and as long as
you are not sharing the connection with 5 neighbors with the motivation to make money, there
is no problem with personal use. I am happy to hear that you were able to make it work. Good
job Clarke33!
No, the only thing I tether from my phone is my KF. I have actually been also playing with a hotspot toggle and using the phone's native hotspot. So far this has also worked and has not activated the screen from Verizon saying I need to pay an additional amount.

Hello guys
I'd like to ask if anyone of you came across this issue? Tethering doesn't seem to work. When I check WiFi AP mode it just stays at "Turning on WiFi" and doesn't change at all. I can see this network on my laptop, but when I connect to it DHCP doesn't seem to work, and even setting IP address manually + DNS names doesn't solve problem. There is no AP mode icon on the top bar on the phone. There are also issues with the USB Thetering, I have to turn on and of it multiple times before it works. Once turned on it says it's on on the phone, but computer doesn't recieve proper IP adress and DNS servers.
Anyone had similar problems?
Sorry to post in here, but as I'm less than 10 posts I can't post in the ROM's native post

Yes, I noticed that in other thread which didn't load for me last time as I was using USB tethering while traveling with train so I had some service issues. Sorry to spam the board.
On the other hand, are there any plans to make miniCM on a base of 10.2CM? There are some features introduced in 10.2 like custom icons that I am interested in..
10.2 is not stable for our device... And the development has been abandoned.... So it's highly unlikely it would happen. But the devs are working on 4.4 so we should have that working soon.

I haven't tried the bluetooth feature yet. I use the USB tether because of the internet share feature when using USB and the PDAnet software on my laptop. I still need WiFi for other devices such as my TV and Rand McNally Truck GPS. PDAnet was a big save for me when I could not root.
Do you have any connection drops using bluetooth? I lose bluetooth connection to my speaker system about once a day.

Yes.. I have notice connection drop using Bluetooth. Not sure why? If I need phone charge I use USB tether. Your right WiFi has other benefits like for multi devices. I'm a big fan of WiFi but Bluetooth or USB tether will do for now.
I rarely use WiFi on Rand McNally Truck GPS. I use my phone app to stay up to date with the weather.

Did you know that if you use USB Tether on PDAnet that you can use the WiFi Share (beta) on the PDAnet software on your computer. It seems to work very well. Only problem I have had is it shows up for bluetooth as an option also, but I can't seem to get it to work with bluetooth. I get an error 19.
edit: I just got WiFi sharing to work with BT. Had to reboot the computer.
Awesome!! I just tried it and it work. I connected my Rand McNally truck GPS thru WiFi Share (beta) using USB tether than I tried BT and WiFi Share on my laptop worked as well. Now we have USB Bluetooth and WIFI using only PDAnet.

I took the update and PDAnet still works. PDAnet does nothing with the APNs. Instead you have to install PDAnet on both the phone and PC. The wifi hotspot is on the PC side using PDAnet software to do the share.

Yes. Usb tether works this way. And to tether through a pc and use the pc to create wifi. However, pdanet will also activate the native wifi hotspot capabilities of the phone itself. When I open pdanet+foxfi and hit "Activate wifi hotspot" it turns on the wifi hotspot of my phone. No pc involved.

You are correct the FoxFi part of PDAnet does have WiFi but it only works for us if we are paying for the hotspot and it then uses our allocated hotspot data. ie. I pay for 6gb a month and it will use that up. With that being the case I might as well just use it directly from the phone and not use FoxFi. If you are not paying for hotspot I do not believe it will work. If I'm wrong I'd like to know though.

I tried to activate Wifi hotspot PDAnet on the phone but it gave me "Hotspot Error" You are not subscribed to the Hotspot Service. Fail to activate Hotspot. Me paying an extra monthly fee for Wifi is not going to happend. This is why we need root among other things. If your Hotspot Wifi is activated on your phone then there is no need for PDAnet
It seems to have the same problem regular hotspot does for me after update. Keeps asking me to purchase plan. Have to reboot and quickly turn on. Glad that works our I'd be sol. Anyone else have a reliable method? My APN settings are locked out also now.

Even if paying for Wifi, PDAnet does still help (not with wifi but with USB or BT tether) by not using up are allotted data. I go through my allotted data rather quickly. I'm an over the road driver and use internet for many things to include weather on my truck gps, normal things such as email and system updates, and for entertainment (Games and movies).

I'm OTR myself and I know what you mean. I use my laptop for everything its my entertainment system. TV, movies, software, games I rely heavily on tethering my laptop with my phone. I even D/L movies and save them for later where there is no Internet like the Rockies. Thumbs up for PDAnet 2 thumbs up when root is here.
I'm thoroughly aggravated. I have Boost mobile plan with a hotspot. As I live on a houseboat, it's very important to me and 8gb isn't enough. A Boost rep gave me foxfi info. But I get error that my provider won't allow hotspot so I must tether or bt. Now I downloaded foxfi on ex who has Boost but not a hotspot. He can use the option of Foxfi hotspot, tether, or bt. I'm thinking of buying separate phone just for this.
Please verify with me is foxfi working with sprint gs7? I am thinking of upgrading and need to know what phone to get. please advise, anyone?

I am the same. Not so much movies, but all sorts of software. If I had to rely on my laptop for visual entertainment as well, I don't think it or me could handle it. I already fill up 5 virtual desktops, switch between windows and Linux and would punch my own mother in face for, like, 500% more screen space, or even just the ability to lower the dpi or increase the resolution past 1366x768... But currently, even with an alfa 36N and 9dBi antenna, the WiFi here is just plain ****. The burger King WiFi accross the street is better, but I can't can never get the login page to come up. so my phone is my sole Internet source.
I will say one thing, I really regret going with the nougat beta. I've been meaning to revert back so I can reroot because the Hotspot was unlimited and much more stable. That and the beta is super sluggish, at least for me. Some of the newer features were cool, but not nearly worth giving up root. But I let it get to the point where backing up and making the switch back will be an a 6 hour engagement, and I keep putting it off.
Amazing thanks
Alright I have a rooted nexus 6 and am able to use the hotspot feature. Basically what I want to do is use the Chromecast without a WiFi connection and instead use the hotspot. However, I can't get this to work since I obviously can't connect my phone to its own hotspot. Any ideas?
Edit: I have no problem with rooting the Chromecast but I don't know how to do it so I will need a tutorial for that.

if you have another device that has wifi capabilities available temporarily, you can do this very easily. Turn on your hotspot on your phone, then run the chromecast app on the other device (another phone, tablet, or laptop using google chrome browser with the chromecast extension). Then just follow the instructions from the chromecast app as you normally would.
