Hello,
i am a long time Android User and flashoholic with devices like Moto G, Moto G 2014, Nexus 5 and now the sad and crappy supported Honor 8.
I have to set up a phone for my beloved brother with root and AOSP-CAF! Great phone btw, the Moto G2.
However...
I am totally strugglin to install TWRP!
I unlocked the bootloader and was proceding to install TWRP to further install AOSP-CAF and root. The installation via fastboot went fine:
fastboot flash recovery *LATESTTWRPFORTITAN.img"
It went tottaly okay (as far as the terminal said "okay"). But i cannot reboot to TWRP recovery. Every time i try to boot to to recovery (from fastboot) IT DOESNT WORK.
I think i am doin SOMEthing wrong, but i can`t grasp what exactly,
any ideas?

After you unlock the bootloader you probably flashed the TWRP .img? At that point you should have made a backup of system, data, and boot. So know you have a backup of stock everything except for recovery. You could have performed a recovery dump via ADB/Fastboot before the TWRP flash.......BUT, under system/ is a file at the bottom called recovery-from-boot.bak. At any time you can remove the .bak and when you reboot to recovery, you should be in stock recovery. If you need TWRP again you have to fastboot flash it again. :good:
Alright, this is my first full day with my new contract-free Moto X on Sprint. It runs Android 4.4, and the system 143.44.8.ghost_sprint.Sprint.en.US. I already have the necessary drivers and adb installed on my Windows computer.
I am trying to root my phone. Having come from the original Epic 4G, I am used to doing my research quite thoroughly. From what I have seen, while Sprint CLAIMS that the bootloader is unlocked, you actually have to get the unlock code from Sprint. Fine, the phone has now been unlocked, but still not rooted. The two prevailing lines of research are to either run SlapMyMoto (this the phone is already on 4.4), but that only seems to serve Verizon and AT&T devices, and line 2 is to flash a recovery like TWRP (official, but I've never used) or CWM (unofficial, but used on Epic 4G). I've tried two different .img files for TWRP: twrp-2.6.3.1-ghost-4.4.img and openrecovery-TWRP-TEST#3-ghost.img, but attempting to enter Recovery from Fastboot simply displays a persistent black screen. Still no root.
What am I still missing in regards to installing a recovery software? I already have SuperSU v1.93 copied over to the phone, but I can't get anywhere without the recovery software to install it. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Why are you even bothering with SlapMyMoto when your bootloader is unlocked? I don't understand why people continually ask about how to root when they've already unlocked their bootloader...SlapMyMoto works for all Moto X variants, not sure where you got the impression that it only works for VZW and ATT.
Flash a recovery (CWMR or TWRP) using "mfastboot flash recovery recovery.img", use VOL- to scroll down to recovery then VOL+ to select. Once in recovery, "adb push su.zip /sdcard/" then flash it from within the recovery. From there, you can select reboot from within the recovery or type "adb reboot".
okay...so if i'm running the 4.4 update on my Sprint Moto X, and have unlocked the bootloader, I just need to flash a recovery image and flash the SU zip through the custom recovery, correct? No mucking around with downgrading to 4.2.2 post-cam update etc?

Correct
Sent from my Moto X using Tapatalk
Any luck on this? I have a Sprint one and have unlocked my bootloader as well. However, after pushing TWRP recovery and trying to boot into it, I'm unable to flash SU.zip. After a normal reboot, TWRP recovery no longer exists (seems like a persistency issue?).
Anyway, after unlocking my bootloader, what are the next steps?
Out of all the Android phones I've had, rooting this one has been the most difficult by far...call me a noob.

Ok. let me try.
After unlocked bootloader it will be display that unlocked boot logo for ever until you flash this on custom recovery:
LogoFixWarningv2.zip
But for that you need custon recovery.
you can use this:
twrp-2.8.6.0-titan.img
to flash custo recovery use this mfastboot
mfastboot-v2.zip
with this command with device on bootloader screen
mfastboot.exe flash recovery ''recovery name''
change the '' '' for the recovery name ex.
mfastboot.exe flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-titan.img
To do all that you need to re unlocked your bootloader if you re locked it...
so do the command
mfastboot.exe oem unlock UNIQUE_KEY
Where instead of 'UNIQUE_KEY' you type in your own 20-character key that Motorola sent you via email.
:good:
i managed to flash the recovery but how do i boot into it now?thanks also for the help but when i boot to recovery through bootloader it just shows a black screen :/

To boot to recovery you need to be in the bootloader screen.
press the down volume key to move the option to recovery and press the up volume key to enter recovery.
It will boot to recovery, is very fast to boot to recovery... But remember boot loader need to be ''device UNLOCKED Status code: 3''
That same recovery that i share is the recovery on my device so it work's. And is the last version available.
:good:
WOW finally!u are like a god to me right now i have been trying for days to reach the recovery menu!!!i just unlocked bootloader and installed the recovery but then it got replaced by the stock cause i booted into android and i couldnt get it to open then i just reflashed it and BOOM! AWESOMENESS!!!!!I AM SO HAPPY MAN!
nice :good: i'm glad that work... thanks.
So I've messed up recovery on my phone, I should add it works completely fine right now.
Previously I've rooted it and installed TeamWin onto it. One day last year, Android was bugging me to update. I clicked yes and didn't realise it won't update because I've rooted and installed TeamWinReceoveryProject (TWRP). So the update failed and I thought nothing of it.
So the other day I wanted to make a backup of my phone and tried to get into TWRP only I go into fastboot now and when I select recovery it just reboots. Anyway I can fix this so I have TWRP back?
Model: Moto G XT1072
Did you tried just flash recovery again?

Is your phone still rooted? If so just download "rashr-flash tool" by Aschot Mkrtchyan from the play store and use this app to flash the TWRP img file.
Hey everyone I just recently got a Moto X Pure with TWRP recovery already installed and the bootloader unlocked, unrooted. The phone was stuck on Marshmallow so I went to update and it would take me to TWRP recovery every time and when I reboot back into the system, I'm still stuck on Marshmallow. So I downloaded an app that would make me download OTA updates while still having TWRP recovery but it needed root access, which I didn't have. I tried all of the one-click root apps but non worked then I stumbled across an easy root method: ( oops it said I can't post links, but basically I downloaded a supersu zip and flashed it) which I followed very precisely and I'm pretty sure I did nothing wrong. But when I flashed the ZIP using TWRP and booted back into system it was stuck on the Motorola logo which I'm assuming is bootloop. I was going to download a stock recovery using fastboot but I discovered that it would relock the bootloader, which would render the device useless to me so I can't. I also tried wiping the Dalvrik Cache but it always failed. I'm new to all of this so please guys I'm desperate for help. Thanks in advance
Hello guys!
Yesterday I tried to flash the newest Lineage-built to my new G7+ (XT1965-3, bought in Germany via Amazon), but something went wrong and now I'm afraid, I bricked my phone.
It's not my first flash of Lineage, as I did this in the past already on some older Phones (SII, SIII, S5), but it's the first time, that I have a major issue.
So I followed all the steps on the Lineage-Wiki (on Win10).
After flashing the recovery (the lineage-recovery, not TWRP) I wasn't able to enter the recovery-mode, so the phone booted to StockRom. And probably this was the problem: As it didn't react to VolumeDown+Power, I reflashed the recovery a second time. After that the touch-screen is not working any more.
I am able to enter the recovery-mode and I can boot to Stock-Rom, but in both modes the phone does not react to touch, so I can only use the Volume- and Power-Buttons.
Probably I made more mistakes after that: I thought, that a factory-reset would help, but It didn't. I also relocked the bootloader, but as I saw, that it also did not bring any solution, I unlocked it a second time.
Conclusion: I have a brand new phone, with lineage-recovery, an unlocked bootloader but without touch working.
I also tried to flash Lineage, but the sideload got stuck at 47%. So Lineage is not installed and it boots into Stock, where I can not get any further without touch.
Has anyone any idea, what could be the issue and how I can fix it? I would like to start from scratch, but I don't know, what is the exact problem and if i can for example return to stock recovery.
Thank you!
---- EDIT ----
If it helps: I am able to boot TWRP via "fastboot boot twrp-xxx.img". And in TWRP the touch works!
I could flash lineage directly via TWRP from external sd-card, but i am afraid that after that I won't be able to return if something goes wron.
probably your best bet is to go right back to stock using the LMSA tool and starting fresh. I've seen others encounter similar issues on different devices and always the cleaneast solution was just to role back everything and start over.
Thank you so much. With LMSA I managed to restore everything to stock and touch is working!
So I'm going to start from scratch and finally install Lineage.
Is is indicated to use the Lineage-Recovery, as the Lineage-Wiki says, or would it better to use TWRP?
TWRP gives me the option to flash from sd-card, which seems to me better than via sideload.

Glad your back up and running. Take a look in the lineage thread, but it does appear most people lean towards using twrp, shouldnt have an issue with either however.

I'm having a similar problem. At first touch was fubar but I was able to return to stock using LMSA and now touch works. I can load TWRP with fastboot and even install a custom ROM and TWRP, but installing any custom ROM results in a boot loop during the finding and installing updates part of the phone setup during first boot. I'm tried Evolution X which I was running previously(for about a month, and then a boot loop started yesterday), PixelOS 10, and AncientOS, but all result in the boot loop on first boot after connecting to wifi.
Fixed
I fixed this somehow by manually flashing the latest stock firmware to slot a, and then extracting the evolution x Rom and manually extracting the IMG files inside and manually fastboot flashing those to slot b. I then set b as the active slot and booted up, patched the boot image with magisk, flashed that, and everything works. Not sure why twrp wouldn't do the trick.
Finally had the time to install Lineage. Now everything works.
I followed the instructions someone posted in the [ROM][OFFICIAL] LineageOS 17.1 [nightlies]-thread and the instructions of the lineage-wiki:
1. fastboot boot TWRP
2. sideload the copy-partitions.zip from lineage-wiki
3. factory reset via TWRP (wipe cache, dalvik and data)
4. sideload lineage
5. reboot bootloader
6. fastboot boot TWRP
7. sideload magisk
8. reboot system
Had a little bootloop the first time rebooting the system, but that was because I forgot to wipe data-partition in step 3. Wiping data and rebooting did it for me.
So I have a working Lineage17.1 with root via Magisk.
Thank you for the help!
I had exactly the same problem like you had. Bought a brand new moto g7 plus and after recovery flash, Touchscreen was not working anymore. I could manage to go back to the bootloader, sideloaded TWRP, but side loading lineage worked for me then. It seemed to be stuck on 47 percent, but this seems to be a normal issue, the file was there and after installing, touchscreen worked normally.
