Need help with flashing the G1 !!!!!

i rooted my G1 last night (i think i suceffuly rooted it)
and i was trying to flash the JACHEROSki-v2.1 ROM to my G1, i used the old method put the recovery.img and the JACHEROSki-v2.1 (changed to "update"),then turn off phone, turn it back on with home+power, alt+s flashing in progress, here are the messages i got when installing the rom:
Installing from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
installing update...
Deleting files...
Deleting files...
Formatting System:...
Copying files...
Then the progress bar stay still not moving forward....and after a while it goes...
E:Can't chown/mod /system/xbin
(No such file or directory)
E:failure at line 80:
set_perm_recursive 0 2000 0755 0 6755 SYSTEM:xbin
Intallation aborted.
Press Home+back ro reboot
then after i reboot, the G1 logo stays on forever, i tried to reboot, and tried to flash again (at least 4 times), but same results. how can i fix this ? did i delete my own rom while flashing the new rom ? thats why i have no roms in my phone, so it wont load up? what can i do now ? i mean, i cant do anything without turning on the phone
Hero roms require the DangerSPL noted in the first post of the rom you are trying to install. I don't recommend flashing a hero rom right after rooting your phone. Considering you still need to learn about apps2sd and most important swap partitions. Download cyan 4.0.4 and start with that before you try a hero rom.
Hold home+pwr to boot into recovery to flash roms.
Also you don't need to put the recovery.img on your sd anymore, once you have flashed recovery you dont need to do it again cuz it stays on your phones internal memory. When flashing any rom you just put the .zip on your sd and rename it to update, thats it.
so you mean cyan rom is best for me right ? and how am i gonna do that when i cant boot my phone ? i dont have a card reader here so a little frustrating tho
and can you give me a link for that rom ? too many roms out there dont know which one is best for my G1, i have a 1G memory card only btw
before we go any further. Did you install cyan's recovery 1.4?
also turn the phone off, hold the camera button and power button. Give us the info shown on the screen.
i dont have cyan revovery 1.4 i only have the recovery.img
and what does it say when you hold camera and power to turn the phone on?
my friend just brought me his card reader and i put the JFv1.51_CRB43-ADP update to the sd, and flash it, now my phone works, with 1.5 firmware....
a question...if i want to install the cyan rom, i just do the same with the updates right ? put it in sd, rename to update, turn off phone, home+power, then install right ?
Seems like you got this one fingerlickin. See we can be helpful.

Correct, but if you install the new recovery you can flash any .zip without renaming. Also if you get stuck in the future and don't access to a card reader you can mount your card in adb and do everything that way.
sorry fingerlickin had to jump in.
now im getting confused...what is adb ?
and after i get this update, my internal memory is 47mb....whats alot less than what i got before...is this normal ?

adb will get your ass out of trouble when your phone acts up.

There are some good guides to use adb in there. But I ain't tryna get you confused so early, maybe that should be one of the next things you should learn. I'll stop there so you don't get confused yet, just something to learn for the future.
And did you have your card partitioned before flashing the rom? I'm being lazy and not looking at your past posts right now.
i havent yet partitioned my sdcard...i came to this forum last night, spent hours to read and learn about rooting, updating, and maybe partition....
so you think my jf update can get the app install to sdcard ? or do i have to use other roms ?

If I were you I would honestly switch from jf to a different rom. JF is to boring and outdated, plus he ain't working on roms no more so you won't have any support. I would go to one of cyanogens roms. Just partition your sd card then flash a new rom. There are multiple ways to partition your card, I use ubuntu (tut in sig) but there are other ways to do it thru the phone.
ok....i will try to find a good rom for my phone...thanks for the help there...really appreciate it
NP supreme, I had to step away from my desk for a bit but I'm back now.
cyan's recovery 1.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3915123
cyan's stable ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537204
Do the recovery first. when you get this recovery installed you don't have to rename zip files to update.zip anymore. Then flash the ROM, you will not regret using cyan's ROMs.
After this is done and everything is running normal you can do some research on partitioning the sdcard. This isn't required so don't do this until everything else is normal.
which one is better ? staple rom or 1.4 ?

1.4 is the recovery
stable rom is the actuall rom
So do both. Just do recovery first. It's not necessary to do it first but ehh

new nexus1.

Let me start by saying I currently own a rooted evo and have flashed many roms, kernels, and such. My girlfriend just purchased a used nexus 1. The phone is/was rooted, but the previous owner kept the sd card. Can I just install a new sd card and maintain root? Do I need to reinstall a new recovery? Where should I start? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone may have to offer.
My mistake there is a sd card in it. Only a couple files on it labeled android and such. Cyanogen is currently running on it. When I boot into recovery there no install from zip option or anything like that. Rom manager is still on the phone. How can I reinstall clockwork mod recovery options?
Just tap the first box you see, 'install clockwork mod recovery'
Awesome thanks for your help. That's what I thought but wasn't sure if I had to install to the as card first. Thanks again!

Stupidly bootlooped - Way to install new rom to internal sd card?

Hi everyone,
I've stupidly managed to bootloop my phone and need a little help sorting it out if possible.
I have been following the guides to install the custom roms and have no idea where I messed up.
I have 2 roms on my internal sd card (OrDroid and Maximus7) I have tried manually flashing the boot.img for each individually before installing the rom through recovery, but both result in the phone getting stuck on the boot up screen.
Is there a way I can put another rom on the internal sd card to try and get that working? The phone doesn't show up on the PC.
Thanks for any help!!

Thanks for the reply jngtt
I managed to sideload a ROM and get the phone out of bootloop. I now have no signal though. (When there definitely is some as my wife is with the same carrier)
At least from here I can load a new ROM/Kernel to the phone.
Is there a Stock ROM for the M7 somewhere?
I saw this thread

but couldn't work out how to restore my phone back to a factory ROM?

[Q] Which SD card do they refer to?

My brother has a Galaxy Ace(As do I) and he was wanting to put a rom on it, so I showed him a few tutorials on xda and helped him through the process. I myself don't have a rom on my phone, but I spent a good half month trying to fix my phone after my friend convinced me to flash a rom designed for the S3...Yeah, bad mistake...
So in all the tutorials they say to just put it on your sd-card and then flash it from recovery and etc. So we tried that and it ended up not working(At least it seemed like it didn't, I know you are supposed to wait 10 or so minutes to see if it gets out of the boot loop, and we waited about 20 mins) so I just reflashed a stock rom using Odin and everything was fine.
But it got me thinking, is there a specific location you should be putting the file on when you flash it? Because it was just on the external SD-Card, not the internal SD-card, is that a problem?
Also, is CWM Recovery required, or is it just to prevent you from needing to reflash a stock rom after you screw up?
Still kind of a noob when it comes to this stuff, thanks in advance =)
Put the file on the root of your external micro SD card, not inside any folder, not in internal memory, just on sd card [ sd/*here* ]......
Some ROM can't be flashed via phones recovery, they do need CWM Recovery + CWM recovery (backing up the data) help you to save your phone's data if anything goes wrong
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if I helped

[Q] accessing external SD from recovery?

So I rooted my daughters samsung SGH-T599N, and installed philz touch and was planning on putting a custom rom on the phone. unfortunately out of habit, I put the rom file, and gapps file on the external SD, booted to recovery.. wiped cache, dalvik and factory reset to install a new rom. Unfortunately this device will not access the external SD card through the recovery, and now the phone just gets stuck with the samsung logo when turned on (so i cant turn debugging on again).... I can't get odin, or any other program to read and connect properly.... and now I'm stuck... I have been searching online for several days now trying to find a solution, but have come up empty. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.. I was even thinking to use adb to transfer files over but have been unsuccessful as of yet ...
sorry to burst your bubble but this exhibit 4g section is for T679 version.

do you have cwm installed? if so you could boot into that and in the advanced menu there's an option called mount usb storage. just make sure your phone is plugged into your computer boot into cwm and then advanced/mount usb storage, then open my computer and your external drive should so up also your internal I believe, so you could transfer your new rom and gapps to a new location of your choice.. though i'm not sure how you'd would do this on odin or other recovery software.
I actually had philz touch cwm installed, but I resolved the problem by flashing back to stock with odin in recovery mode... turns out this device just doesnt read external sd from recovery. adb push didnt work, sideload didnt work..lol . But good ole odin saved my butt again
