Screen Image Unstable, low refresh rate?

Does anybody elses screen image appear to be unstable, especially noticeable after hitting the tiangle soft key above the n hardkey when it kind of greys the screen? Its almost like the refresh rate isn't high enough, like the old style computer monitors. Also very noticeable on the blue jean wallpaper.
I have already taken back one NC due to a faulty bezel, this one was much better but now I am having screen issues.
Anybody else?

Yes, i bet they all have this issue.
The first Nook i had with the dead pixel and dust under the screen did it and my new one does it also on the darker grey screens.

ya, I noticed that as well, thought it was just my eyes being sensitive, only really notice it once in a while, when using apps it seems ok.

Well I didn't notice it at all on my first one, but now that Im looking for it, it is very annoying. Im even seeing it in some of the apps that have darker areas.
How many times can you return for a new one without them telling you to shove it?

After fooling around with it some more I have made this observation.
The flickering only occurs at 10-50% brightness. Anything below that or above that seems to be flicker free.

I don't know...Bought mine at Best Buy and they really didn't want to take the first one back...
I really wanted to buy from Walmart because the probably won't give you the third degree on returns, but I was afraid they would have older stock with the sound issue..
If you have a screen with no dead pixels, I would consider yourself lucky and stick with the one you have..
I would return mine again, but I am afraid of getting one thats worse.

Degree's of Separation

So I was reading about some of the problems with screen separation and had a question.
My device showed up and looked perfect except for a tiny(tiny!) part of screen raised about a hairs width on the left side. Had it about a week now with moderate-heavy usage, and haven't noted more separation, still less than a hairs width.
Now it may be splitting hairs (lol!) but I was wondering if I should attempt an RMA? Will it begin to separate more? Besides this everything is great, no dead pixels etc... and little screen thing doesn't bother me, but I don't want it to get worse and then be stuck with the device outside my window for RMA.

Oh, my, I wouldn't replace it for that. Now, I think you COULD, technically, because yes there's always the chance that it will get worse. But if it does, you can deal with it as a warranty issue then.
If my first unit had only had the small amount of screen separation and not a dead pixel RIGHT in the worse spot, I would have kept it in a heartbeat. The second replacement I received has more separation, and also a screen with a horrible color temp--whites are a dingy yellow, quite ugly. The worst thing is, Google is telling some folks (me included) that we MUST return the original unit rather than deciding to keep it and returning the replacement.
Hell, if they'd let me, I would have kept my original, dead pixel and all, rather than take a chance on getting a third one with other problems (including the yellow tint, which I simply hate on tablets). Instead, I had to process another replacement which will hopefully get here tomorrow and be in good shape. Fingers crossed.
So, in short: if all that's wrong with yours is a tiny amount of screen separation, then for your own sanity I strongly recommend that you keep it and not worry about it. Stick it in a case and you'll forget about it quickly enough.

My first one was not significant, but with use it became very pronounced. The first replacement arrived with a fairly pronounced 'hump' on the left side of the screen. I don't think anyone is 100% sure what the cause is, but there are likely two reasons: the screws and the adhesive.
If the separation gets worse with significant use (i.e. heat), then it's probably an adhesion problem. If there's separation, but it appears to not get worse, maybe that's purely due to the screws? I don't know, just guessing.
As yours hasn't become worse with a week's moderate to heavy use, it seems unlikely it might suddenly change. However, if you're like me, the anxiety of not knowing will drive you up the wall.
So far, Google seems contend to keep sending replacements until I'm happy - my third device (AKA second replacement) should arrive this week. However, I don't like asking for replacements, I find it to also induce anxiety, so I'm really hoping the new N7 is going to be perfect.

My 4th and 5th Nexus both have exactly the same separation you describe and I've just put them both in a tight case a bought from amazon and not looked back.

Mine came last Friday (7/27) and is exactly like what you describe. I’m not going to do anything about it unless it gets worse.

Beware though unless you bought through the play store you may need to deal with Asus for the warranty claim.

Mine had a very slight raise on the left, I still did the whole "washer" trick which initially improved it, but I'm not sure if it was even worth it.
The other thing to check for is "flicker" - on auto brightness (particularly in a low light situation), open up Maps, and see if you see any slight flickering. I have this issue, but turning off auto brightness and setting it to about 30% seems to alleviate the issue.
Otherwise, my device is working extremely well - I wouldn't want to RMA for these very slight issues because I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't get something worse.

This whole "flicker in Maps" thing fascinates me, because I swear I've had it on every Tegra 3 tablet I've tried (Transformer Prime, Excite 10, Excite 7.7, Nexus 7). The absolute worse was the Transformer Prime, and it wasn't limited to lower brightness levels.
That really leads me to believe that it's something inherent in the Tegra 3.

I've heard this from several people now - although there are others reporting they don't have this issue at all with the N7, which is why plenty of people are sending theirs back for replacements. I would have to see a steady stream of "sent mine back, new one has no flicker issue at all" to consider doing an RMA for the problem. Because for me it just isn't that much of an issue, really.

I just returned a 16gb back to Staples and ordered one from Google Play. The screen was very dark and dingy. Whites were yellowish. The colors looked very washed out compared to my other Android tablets.
I didn't have any separation that I could find though. The silver ring was slightly raised all around the unit and my screen protector fit right inside there to make it flush. I just ordered a new one through Play store, so I'm hoping I don't go from bad to worse.

Navigation Bar Burn In. Anyone else?

Received my Note 8 11 days ago and I was now looking at a gray picture in my gallery when I noticed the navbar was already burnt into the screen (and the buttons, too). It's barely noticeable, but can definitely be seen if you know what you're looking for.
I've now checked my Nexus 6P which I've been using for a bit more than a year before the Note 8 arrived and it also has the navbar burn-in, but it's as barely noticeable as the Note's one, and that's scary. 1 year of usage and it has the same burn-in as an 11-day old Note 8.
Now, the question is: Am I alone?
P.S: Download a gray image (I've attached one for you) and view it fullscreen with max brightness to test it.

I was really hoping that screen burn in was a thing of the past. My Note 4 had major burnin with the status bar at the top of the screen within the first year of owning it. It's ridiculous and one of the main things that makes me want to avoid OLED screens. LCD screens may be inferior to OLED in most ways, but at least you don't get burn in Burn in within a few days of ownership would have to be a record.
My phone is supposed to finally arrive on Monday. If this is a thing, then I'll just send it back. A lot of money to spend on a device with that flaw.

I haven't experienced any burn-in effects since Note 2, but I used that one for navigation almost every day for years.

On my Note 4. It's only there if I go out of my way to look for it. I'm sure the Note 8 will be the same. If you snoop around for flaws, it's there on all phones.

Yea. My Note 4 is really bad, but it's also three years old.
But after only 11 days?

I have Note 3 since 2013 , used it for over 3 yrs as my daily driver and honestly I have no idea what do you people talk about, there is absolutely nothing resembling burn in on that screen, do I need to add there is no burn in on my new Note 8 either? Come to think of it over the years I also had Galaxy S3, S5, S8 and never seen burn in on those either. I've seen burn in on LCD screens, I couldn't believe it, I don't know how, but I've seen it, however after years of use.
Isn't navbar supposed to disappear after a while, until you bring it up again, or OP locked it in?

OLEDs will always be subject to burn in due to how they work. Since each subpixel is for a SINGLE color, they will age differently because they're not all going to be on at the same time (ex: a pure red will not have green or blue subpixels active, so red would age faster than the other two if left on for days). The larger ones, usually blue, will need more voltage to excite it than the smaller ones (almost always green, as we see more of the green spectrum than blue--look at a CIE colorspace chart and you'll see very little "blue" compared to green). More voltage = faster aging.
This will NEVER be eliminated, and will always happen using current OLED technology (read: need alternative to currently used organic materials not subject to electric decay/aging).
HOWEVER, don't worry about this. For a user to actually introduce image burn in you will need to have your screen BRIGHT (250+ nits at least) AND have a STATIC IMAGE being shown for DAYS.
I'm 99% positive that any image burn in reports, that have NOT done the above, is not image burn in but Image Retention (aka image persistence).
Image Retention is TEMPORARY, and is mostly from electrical build up in display components and will go away once the build up has discharged (pixel is off for a while). On LG OLED HDTVs there is an option to "clear panel noise" which is what this does; don't know if other manufactures have a similar option available.
Alternatively you can add build up to improve screen uniformity by looking at a pure white screen for a few minutes. (google "jscreenfix" to see what I mean by colored noise. There is an old jscreenfix.jar file that's no longer hosted on their site for offline and full screen use. I don't know if it would work on androids as it was made back in Windows XP days).
Again, I'd like to put emphasis on the difference between "image burn in" and "image retention". At a glance they will look identical.
How Samsung has their "always on display" may make finding which you may have difficult. It's possible that the screen is still getting power even with the phone OFF depending on how the circuits and internal components draw power from the internal battery (read: OFF may be an extreme form of SLEEP where the absolute minimum of power is flowing through components if they used some more exotic designs for the sake of reliability).

The nav icons move although it's much more subtle than the AOD, just enough to prevent their burning in. It's a little image retention, rest easy tonight.

How to fix?
Mine there's a mark from waze report button so strong when the screen is white or more light.

No burn. Wife's S7 edge had Facebook burn terrible, and my S8+ had Google maps burn in a couple months. Screen burn occurs most quickly with screen at Max brightness.

How I remove Screen Burn on Statusbar ,Navigation bar and there is Google Widget too

So Friends I recently Bought Nexus 6 Refurbished from Ebay. I noticed some screen burning on Statusbar,Navigation bar and burning on Google widget too.
Any Solution to remove screen burning on Nexus 6 ?

Buy a new screen.
There are apps on the Play Store that claim to fix AMOLED screens, but if the burn-in is too bad they won't help. I believe your device is at that point, thus my recommendation above.

Like the poster above said, replace the screen. 3+ years and mine has noticable burn in even tho I frequently change the size and placement of anything static. If your not experienced in repair get one with the frame included as it will be much harder without a pre-assembled screen+frame. Also if the battery hasn't been replaced now would be a great time to do it, they are relatively cheap. I replaced mine Q1 2017, got lucky imo, having it last as long as it did with the way I use it lol. iFixit has excellently detailed step-by-step guides on how to replace screen/battery, I've had mine fully apart more times than I can remember, it's a durable phone with lots of metal, long as you take your time I don't think you can hurt it (baring static discharge of course) lol.
Or just live with it as the Nexus 6 is still, imo, an excellent phone with great potential after unlocking/rooting. You can also lower or use auto brightness as burn in would be less noticable the lower the brightness.

Should I Buy?

I've been considering getting a new phone for a while now as my S8's battery life has fallen off a cliff and the screen also has a minor crack.
My Xperia Z3 is probably my favourite phone I've ever had and I've always been tempted by going back to Sony. I've heard some brilliant things regarding the screen but wondered if anyone could tell me what the camera and battery life are like on this phone? The S8 has a very good camera and I would want something that is at least on a par with that.
I'm toying with the idea of getting this or waiting until April for the P20 Pro's successor. Would really appreciate any user opinions of the XZ3 to help inform my decision.*

I've used the phone for two days now (so not too much time) but battery seems to be great! Had 60% left after my day (with relatively light usage: messaging, an hour or two of youtube a few calls). The camera is not special though. With good lighting the shots are really good, but performance drops fast with lower light (even compared to my previous phone a Nexus 6P). I would check out some camera reviews as I haven't had that much time.
Oh and btw the thing I was most scared about, the fingerprint scanner placement, isn't really a problem now I have it. It's not as cramped as it looks to reach it.

Battery life is great, camera is mediocre. The screen is also great, and the fingerprint reader placement is surprisingly ergonomic. The phone is way too slippery though, and will slide & fall off any surface that isn't perfectly level. The curved screen edges are nice in that they give you a sense that there are no bezels, but in practice when faced head-on, there is a viewing angle effect where the edges are darker than the rest of the screen, which is pretty annoying. Android Pie is great and the skin is almost purely AOSP as we've gotten used to with Sony, although there are the usual suspects with a locked boot loader and no root where certain notifications can't be dismissed and other annoyances like apps that you can't uninstall but only "disable" (I call this "Microsoft syndrome").

The battery life is pretty much at par with the other flagships. Around 6-7 hrs SoT with medium to heavy usage. The camera is good, however there's a very annoying lens flare present. It was mentioned also in one of the reviews on YouTube. Lowlight photos IMO are great. Clean, and definitely does not have the "oil painting" effect.
Screen is super great. I upgraded from the XZP, so it's a huge difference from the IPS display on it.
The phone is indeed slippery, so you might want to throw a case on it.

Just an FYI... I just ordered mine from Clove, headed for me here in the states. The Clove price in USD is about $100 less than I can get here, AND it includes the Sony BT speaker.
