I have now tried to copy my old ringtones to different folders but they do not show when I am trying to change my ringtone (notification tones works though)
In which folder do I need to copy these ringtones to?

Should be /system/media/audio/ringtones. Try restarting phone after adding files to that folder so it updates it.
Edit: Well, actually didn't got it to work at all, tried to change permissions and everything but wasn't able to copy anything to that folder
But somehow when I copied some ringtones on my phone (I guess any folder is ok, for me it was Downloads-folder), there appears to be "local ring tone" option in the settings (Sound & Vibration > Phone ringtone > Local ring tone)
I ended up copying to /system/media/audio/ringtones and that worked.. But I saw the local ringtone option but was not sure what that was used for. But I see that was the best solution...

Hi
How do I assign my own music to an sms text alert? on my TyTN 11
copy and paste the tones you would like to use into the My Documents folder or Windows folder on your phone.
you'll find all the notification tones in settings>sounds & notifications>notifications. Select from the drop down menu and change The tone.
WTF?! When syncing to laptop or desktop, choose storage card preferably and put anything you wish in the ''My Documents'' folder. You might have to create this new folder if it's not present. Try googling your question next time finished with "xda"
Thanks Teh Reaper but I have done as you said and in sounds and notifications it still only allows the sounds that came with the phone
forget the copy n paste method, you have to be very exact where you paste it to, just put your audio or even video files in the My Documents folder from your pc
I had this problem as well when I got my Kaiser. Put the files into the Windows folder. This did the trick for me.
MyDocuments does NOT work for SMS or other notifications. Only regular ringtones work there.
Most likely you have to convert your SMS tones to wma before you are able to use them. SMS sounds didn't work as mp3 for me. There are lots of converters available on the web. Simply choose one.
http://www.google.de/search?q=mp3+t...&rls=org.mozilla:de:official&client=firefox-a
No no no, you don't need any converters as long as they are mp3 or even m4 format, it'll read under settings from My Documents folder
For me, this doesn't work, as you described it. I tried this. My method works for me! It is just a suggestion.
My documents works for Every type of notification!!! Make sure its My documents from the storage card though
For some reason My documents from the device do not relate to sounds and notifications, again, try My Documents folder from storage card. I'm currently using a customized message for Every notification
Thank you
Thanks for your help in resolving issue.Works a treat.
1st time on thread for me,so thanks.
I'm running HTC Home on my tilt...Today I changed my default ringtone from a mp3 file to another mp3, but it didn't change.... I can play the files, so I know the files are good, but it will not change in HTC Home or under the system>sounds & notifications....
Anyone know what I need to do?
Firstly, make sure that your mp3 files are associated with wmplayer otherwise you cannot play mp3's as ringtones, secondly make sure that your mp3's for ringtones are placed in the device/rings folder. That should sort it out.
I moved the file to the rings folder, but it still changes back after I close the sounds window. The ringtone that it is currently using is a mp3 file in the My documents folder. How do I check to verify the program mp3s are associated with?

Can you go into the file explorer i nthe programs folder, then browse to the mp3 you want to use as a ring tone, hold the stylus down on the file and select "set as Ringtone" from the drop down list.
What does that do?

That's easy. What file explorer app do you use? If you use Total Commander (Freeware), then you can associate all mp3's with WMPlayer The WMPlayer icon should show on those files, then you know what app it's associated with. You go File>Properties, select the Associate tab and then select WMPlayer from the Device\Windows directory.
In Resco Explorer, you Tap and Hold file for a pop-up menu and then Open>Open with, and then select WMPLayer.
mskip... It's says "the file has been set as your current ring tone."... but it doesn't do it.
MACkjam.... I use just the file explorer from WM 6.1... the ringtone it's set on is a mp3 file so I would assume it has the proper assoc..
I deleted the mp3 file that was set as the ringtone... it moved down the list to the next mp3 file and now I can't change it......
I have tried changing the ringtone via:
1. File Explorer
2. HTC Home tab
3. System>sounds
In system>sounds, every time I try to change it, it looks like it's changed and then I can go back to see, it's just like before.
In HTC Home, it allows me to select another, but it never changes......
Is there a place in the registry I can make the change?

Does it allow you to set non mp3 RingTones? eg. the ones that came on the rom.
no, it is currently set as Ring-WindowsMobile.....I can't change it to anything else.... HTC Home still has the ringtone as mrbeannokia, but the system settings has the Ring-WindowsMobile....
It seems that I can change other sounds, like email and MMS sent...
Could this be a problem with HTC Home?

I have had the similar problem...haven't found the solution to this day.....but there's a workaround delete or move the ringtone which you're using now(ring-windowsmobile - [if it's in rom then you might have a problem deleting it...in that case backup your files...hardreset your phone and check if you can change ringtone on clean rom]) and then you should be able to assign a new ringtone. I've notice that the problem doesn't occur on "clean" roms so most likely some application is screwing up your "Feng shui"
Thanks Arturo... The ringtone is on the ROM, so I can't delete it.....I was hoping I could avoid a hard reset.....

Well in that case you could try to search for a program which allows deleting or renaming files in rom.(I'm not sure if such a program exists at all but it's worth trying if you don't want to hardreset your phone)

Yes; here: HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0 - edit sound
ie:
Code:
*vibrate*
is equal to vibrate.
Code:
\My Documents\My Ringtones\*put song/ringtone file name here*
" is the default file location.
Thank you zeezee...but I had hard reset my phone before I read you message....
after the hard reset, I installed all the programs I had before and tried changing my ringtones after each...every thing worked fine, until...
This morning, I could change the ringtone, but it would change back after a phone call, so I looked at everything that could set my ringtone and decided that Phone Alarm was the problem... I removed it and now everything works correctly....
I appreciate all the help y'all gave me....
Andy

lol yeah that is a bugger
What Rom are you using? Is it a stock rom or a cooked one? If it really bothers you that much then it might be worth just flashing a new Rom rather than spending your time trying to figure it out.
go in the registry and change the HKEY_Current User> ControlPanel > Sounds and deleted the key of FileSizeLimit.

YOu can also use MP3. No problem. Put it in /Windows/Rings/ Folder and then you can select it.
Or in your \My Documents or \Storage Card\My Documents

just drop it in the /windows folder and it will work, I just figured how to do this yesterday, dont put it in a 'rings' folder

it has to be WAV and copy paste to windows folder on the phone not the card.
>and not in ringtones.
Ringtones can be mp3 on any location just tabhold and choose use as ringtone.<
Then go to settings<sounds and notification(or so)<tab notifications(bottom tab)<in dropdownmenu action choose messages new text message<then it should be in the dropdown menu.
Carefull WAV is big on Kb.
trim your wav files with audacity(free)

I had to refresh this info because it was very useful to me and this solution was simpliest I found.
No need to convert Mp3 to WMA and it works. I use storage card method.
i cannot find my window folder so where can i put...
All my ringtones are in "Application Data\Sounds" and it works flawlessly. I can assign any tone to any type of notification.

Wow, what is this? Windows Mobile 6.5? Weird that there would be a size limit on ringtones. I still remember installing a cab to lift the ringtone size limit on my old blackjack II .

Yea there is a limit. Let's say you go to your playlist and try to set a song to a ringtone it gives that annoying 300kb limit size if the file you are trying to assign is larger than that.
It's att's attempt to get you to buy ringtones.

I just tried the old work around and it works...
Create a new folder on your sd card that contains the following folders:
media/audio/notifications/ringtones/alarms
Copy the files you want to use into this alarms and restart the phone. The added files should show up in your ringtones.
KC
sweet thanks guys, i remember the old cab file to on my samsung jack lol i figured they would of gotten rid of this dumb crap by now.
I noticed this too. I used to make ringtones in the music player with the ringtone trimmer app, but you can't even do that now. Ringtone trimmer is in the system folder, but no dice. I just downloaded an app that would let me trim my own ringtones for now...
EDIT: Just noticed that if you go into phone ringtone in the sound settings and click "New Ringtone" you can set a whole song as a ringtone. You just can't do it from the music app....

on the internal or external sd card?
No Work around needed fellas, Go to the Personalize feature and then go to ringtone, when your on that that screen click new ringtone and find the one you want thats placed within the sd drive. Even within contacts when you select a ringtone for contact if you have Es file explore loaded and choose that to open the app you can select any song you want for each contact.
No work arounds, no cabs , just es file explorer and then selecting under personalize or People under apps.
Hi everybody!
I am trying to change my ringtone and notification. First of all I don't want google Play music to find music files when it is looking for files. Also, I was wondering if there was a specific directory to place files. Because I usually only use a file explorer to select it, but currently it is telling me its wrong file type and mp3. I wonder because by putting the files into the Ringtones folder, they seem to load by the standard selection method but all other notifications don't seem to work that way if they are in the notification folder.
* Someone please help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:
Hi! You must create 2 directories with the names Ringtones and Notifications in the main storage. Then you put your tones in the folder that belong.
